I think I've seen something for Pathfinder, and I know a lot carried over from it into Starfinder, but I don't think it's the best practice to just assume everything not explicitly called out is the same. I recently had someone mention that Shaken is a Fear Effect and I can't find anything in the CRB to fully support that. I say fully because I did find Dispiriting Taunt which specifies for itself that it is an emotion and fear effect, but it feels weird for that kind of clarification to be squirreled away in a class's ability rather than in the Conditions section.

Effectively, my question is: Are the Intimidate check to Demoralize and the Shaken condition a Mind-Affecting and/or Fear effect in Starfinder?

The line in question is

COM p.68 wrote:
Otherwise, this ability functions as the mystic’s spells class feature, including the ability to decipher magical inscriptions.

This implies to me that I'm a spellcaster for the purposes of using Spell Gems. Am I understanding Magical Expertise correctly? What also catches me is that it doesn't explicitly say that we treat the Mystic's spell list as our own. I assume we do given the nature of the class feature, but I'm curious if I'm interpreting it in a weird way.

By extension, would the class feature also meet the prerequisite for the Mystic Strike feat and the Esotericist archetype? I assume yes for the former, but based on Esotericst's wording I could see an argument for no on it.

There's a part that's confusing me with the Biohacks.
In the second to last paragraph it states:

COM p.42 wrote:

The materials you use to create biohacks are inert until you activate them. Once activated, they can be used to create any biohacks you know. Each day after you have rested for 8 hours, you can spend 10 minutes to activate the ingredients to create a number of biohacks equal to 1 + your key ability score modifier.

...
Activated biohack materials that aren't used that day become inert, even if they're still in your possession. You can readily replenish these inert reagents on a regular basis at no cost, unless the GM states otherwise. Whenever you take a 10-minute rest to recover Stamina Points, you can also prepare additional activated biohack ingredients to replace those you have used, up to your maximum.

The first part implies to me that I prepare my biohacks on a given day akin to how a caster in Pathfinder prepared their spells for the day and that's all I get for the day. The second part tells me that whenever I take a 10-minute rest for SP, I can just refill my biohacks, provided I have the materials. Which reading is correct? If both, what's the point in being able to refresh at the beginning of the day and any other point of the day? Seems a bit redundant.

BigNorseWolf directed me to a post that says you can use a race boon when rebuilding, but the post is about Pathfinder Society. I know a lot of stuff carried over from Pathfinder and a lot of logical stuff simply carried over, but a lot of it seems to be just be understood but not stated in text.

Most race boons state: "this Chronicle sheet must be the first Chronicle sheet for the given character". Can that line be overridden when rebuilding?

Is the post correct for Starfinder, as well? I don't doubt that it does, but it would give me peace of mind.

I'm sure this has been answered in regards to Pathfinder, and maybe even Starfinder, but I haven't been able to find a thread that gives a straight answer. How does Darkvision interact with dim light?

Say you have Darkvision, 60 feet. In areas of dim light, do you see normally, simply without color, or not at all? And is the range still 60 feet (I assume so)?

How does "out of subtier" work? It seems pretty straight forward: if your character falls outside of the available subtiers for a scenario, you gain the "out of subtier" reward. Though a line from page 11 of the Roleplaying Guild Guide confuses me:

p.11 Roleplaying Guild Guide wrote:
If a PC’s level does not fall within the tier, that character cannot legally play in that scenario.

If you're not within the subtier and therefore cannot play in that scenario, how would you even receive the "out of subtier" reward? I'm likely just misinterpreting the guide, so could someone clarify for me?

My main concern is, I'll be level 5 on the character I'd like to use when I get to Scenario #1-07 which is a Tier 1-4 scenario; this is assuming I play the scenarios in order. Does this mean I just straight up can't use my character to play the scenario? Which leads me into my next question:

If I play a pregen for a scenario, can I apply the chronicle sheet to a character higher than the scenario's tier? I assume no because of this line from page 7 of the Guide:

p.7 Roleplaying Guild Guide wrote:
If you apply credit for multiple adventures at once, your Roleplaying Guild character might advance multiple levels. You can apply credit to a character only if the tier range of the Chronicle sheet includes the character’s level at the time you apply that credit.

Am I just SOL and will have to use a different character altogether to play scenarios I'm not in the subtier for?

Going by the Guild Guide, I understand how Adventure Path sessions are reported if everyone plays and wants credit on legal SFS characters.
But, is it SFS legal to play campaign mode with a mix of SFS players and non-SFS players? Effectively, could I receive credit (a chronicle sheet) while the others play the Adventure Path like normal (non-SFS)?
And how would the same situation apply if I wanted to GM instead? Could I be the only one to get credit if none of my players play SFS? And then could any number of my players also get credit?

Could someone explain how to fill out the Credits Spent box on the chronicle sheet?

After completing Into the Unknown, I sold two of my items for a total of 18 credits, following selling for 10% value, and then bought two items with my total remaining credits. The Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide specifies on Step 8 of "Filling Out a Chronicle Sheet" on page 15 to:

SFSRPGG wrote:

Have the player record credits spent or gained from buying and selling items, including spellcasting services, in the Credits Spent section (R).

...
Any equipment purchased or sold with a price of more than 50 credits should be tracked on the character’s Chronicle sheet (or suitable Inventory Tracking Sheet, if any), denoting the Character Chronicle # (A) next to the item purchased, sold, or expended during the course of the scenario or after its conclusion.

I don't see a sufficient spot to record the items that I bought and sold. There's an empty spot next to the subtier items that has enough space, but I don't think that's the intended spot for it on account of the Incident at Absalom Station chronicle sheet's "All subtiers" item list takes up the entirety of that section of the chronicle sheet.

And while I'm asking questions about the Chronicle Sheets, can someone explain the entirety of step 8? It says to note ongoing conditions and to list any boons or services a character gains by spending Fame. Much like with the bought and sold items, I don't see a spot to do so, unless the intent is for the player to fill in the info in the empty borders.

In case it isn't obvious, I have never done Pathfinder Society play, so I have no reference point.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If I grab the professional's tools, do they provide a bonus to my Profession skill check during Downtime after adventures? Or are they counted as a temporary bonus and as such don't provide a bonus?

I noticed something interesting about the wording for the reward for the Season of the Shackles.

Season of the Shackles wrote:

Each player chooses 1 of his Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild characters.

That character may treat the loot Councilor’s Ring as if it is in his Class Deck box.

It's rather exploitative, but I didn't notice anything saying something to the contrary. What if I complete the Season of the Shackles with a character and put the Councilor's Ring into my Class Deck box (Cleric, for example) per Reward Instructions. Could I not just use a different character who is also a Cleric and put it in his deck and just not use the character who earned the reward?

My reasoning is that I earned the reward with, let's say, Tarlin and now the card is in his Cleric Class Deck box. Could I not just make another Tarlin or some other Cleric from the same Class Deck box and use the Councilor's Ring with them? Unless all registered ACG characters are considered as having separate Class Deck boxes.

(Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place.)

I work at a comic store in the Bay Area where I run a Tabletop Game Night on Sunday evenings. I have everything required to run the Season of Shackles Adventures and Scenarios and plan on running them with friends.

I was curious if there were others on the forum who are in the area who would be interested in joining in if we made it a regular thing. Most likely I would run OP scenarios on the second Sunday of every month. Officially the time slot I run Tabletop Game Night (and by extension, if it were to be a regular thing, ACG Night) is from 4PM-7PM, but we can go longer if need be.

Feel free to ask questions.
