Next Friday I will be starting Jade Regent for my RL group. Having read many threads here, I'm inclined to dump the caravan and relationship rules and just run those two aspects with just flavor, no crunch.

But there are a few additions I'm planning on that I would solicit opinions on.

* I want to include Amaya in the caravan in addition to Ameiko. Having the party travel all the way to Westcrown to go get her seems like a clumsy detour. On the other hand, just having her happen to be in Sandpoint seems awfully convenient. I'm thinking that after the group brings the letter to Ameiko from Brinestump, she then contacts Amaya and invites her over to discuss things. But I'm open to hearing better ideas for how to bring in Amaya.

* Ameiko and Sandru's personal tragedy with the cannibals was at the southern Fogscar mountains, and coincidentally, the caravan route goes *right* past that location, so it seems totally out of character to pass that region unnoted. What will I do with it? I guess the simplest is cannibals are still there, group goes wipe them out, catharsis and closure. But I'd like some additional depth to that. I was thinking maybe they find some old item of Alder's and bring it to Ameiko, and it starts haunting her, as the spirits think that Ameiko fled and left the rest of the group to die. To exorcise the haunting, Ameiko would need to perform x acts of bravery which would lay the spirits to rest. Con: this will push Ameiko to participate in combat encounters? That's an unwanted outcome for me. Ideas to solve?

The group consists of
sylph bard
ganzi gunslinger
gnome sorcerer
tiefling mesmerist
hobgoblin slayer
half-elf witch

All six are new to the system and thus characters are very unoptimized, so I will not be modifying encounters (at least upwards in difficulty) and may use the fast XP track.

Hi, my question is about the witch hex prehensile hair. I searched a bunch of threads, but all of them were arguing about what kind of action activation is -- IMO, that's clear, activation is a standard action. However what I'm unclear on is whether the attack is included in the activation. That is to say, can you attack with the hair in the same round as you do the standard action of activation, or do you have to do standard action (activate) on round 1 and standard action (attack) on round 2, thus having a dead round for the activation.

The relevant passages are:

Quote:
Unless otherwise noted, using a hex is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity.
Quote:
The witch can instantly cause her hair (or even her eyebrows) to grow up to 10 feet long or to shrink to its normal length, and can manipulate her hair as if it were a limb with a Strength score equal to her Intelligence score. (...) The witch can manipulate her hair a number of minutes each day equal to her level; these minutes do not need to be consecutive, but must be spent in 1-minute increments.

The way I read it, it is a standard action to use the hex, and using the hex means 'instantly causing hair to grow *AND* manipulating the hair as if it were a limb'. It does not state that the manipulation has to occur on a subsequent round.

Using the hair as if it were a limb includes the possibility of attacking with it, so the standard action includes 1) causing the hair to grow *AND* 2) using it to attack as a limb, both in one standard action.

Why is this ruling wrong, if it is?

Click on my name, go to my profile, read my house rules. Short version:

* no male characters
* no core races (except human)
* hit dice according to D&D 3e
* ability scores 63 total points 1:1 cost

Here's a few more that aren't in there.

* In addition to normal Golarion deities, you may also worship deities from the Forgotten Realms setting. Somehow, I've never really connected with the Golarion deities, so I'm expanding the pool you can draw from. Of course, the Golarion deities are normally available. FR deities' domain lists are as in their 3e writeups, but said domains function as their PF versions. 3e domains that do not have a Pathfinder version may be negotiable, ask if interested.

* Unchained Background Skills system is in use, minus Artistry and Lore.

* Three traits. One campaign trait and one any other trait is as normal. Then you have a free regional trait as well. The regional trait must specify a proper name region, not "any city" or something like that. This is to encourage and inspire geographic and cultural thinking of your character's background.

* Evil characters *are* allowed, but I am *extremely* draconian about any sort of PvP. Do not steal from your party, do not backstab your party, do not betray your party, do not do any behind-the-scenes shenanigans that will get other party members in hot water. If you can't play an Evil team player, then don't play Evil at all. If you start causing trouble for the party, I will take over control of the character. First and only warning.

* No 3rd party material. However, WotC 3.x material is worth asking about. (No Book of Nine Swords though, sorry.)

* I reserve the right to add more if I forgot something.

I will probably run the recruitment quickly. I will close as soon as I find enough characters that I connect with, so you don't want to leave anything to the last minute. Max 5 days; if I haven't found enough by then I will not run the game.

I particularly enjoy non-European flavored characters -- Qadiran, Vudrani, Tien, Erutaki, Osirian, Garundi et al. -- so those will have an edge in getting in, but not so much that I will take a mediocre Vudrani over a great Andoren. If I have to pick between a great Taldan and an equally great Tien, the latter would probably get the nod.

What I want in your submissions:

* Not much crunch. Name of course. Race plus ethnicity/subrace if applicable. Class and archetype. Ability score distribution. Traits and feats. Alignment is important. You do not need to distribute skill points, buy equipment, select spells or build your animal companion unless accepted.

* An image link would be nice to get a feel for the character.

* Not much fluff. You're amnesiac. Half the point of Strange Aeons is that I end up telling you what your background is, so don't write a year-by-year history of where you lived your whole life. If you retained a maximum of five memories of your whole life, what would they be? None of them can be from the past five years. What fluff you write, focus on your personality, not your history. What kind of person are you, how would you react to different situations. Alignment is a great place to start thinking about examples. But again, not much here. Max two paragraphs.

* Mostly OOC player meta information. You can check the Interest Check thread in this forum for the kind of things I asked about. What I want to know about you as a player. PbP history, commitment level, why should I believe that you will not disappear, and so on. People who already did that in the previous thread do not need to repeat themselves here. Also, if there's important no-nos and hard limits that you don't want to see in-game, this is the place to mention them. Do bear in mind that a horror AP will kind of require some level of gore, so I hope there won't be a lot of requests for no-gore.

I guess there's a bunch here. I'll add as I think of more, and as always, ask away.

Oh, posting frequency. I'm *hoping* to drive the story fairly quickly, and will not wait around a lot. So it would be great if you could check in 2-3 times a day at your best, and at least every other day at your worst (barring pre-arranged vacation times). These are flexible and I'm not draconian about them, but they should give you a little idea of what sort of pace I'm hoping for.

Oh and READ THE PLAYER'S GUIDE OF COURSE!!!

I've had a crazy year in my life, but things are starting to settle down a little. I'm toying with the idea of getting back into PbP and I thought I'd offer to run at least a little bit of an AP to stretch my DMing brainwaves. I'm not offering a six-book commitment right out the gate, but if there's chemistry, I'm not opposed to continuing for a full AP either. Right now though, if you're interested, you should orient yourself that this exercise might only be one book, or even half a book, just to stretch out and get to know people and see if anybody drops out.

You should absolutely click on my name and read my house rules in my profile. There's some pretty hardcore stuff in there, like no male characters, no core races (except human), hit dice according to D&D and fairly unconventional ability score development. If you read that stuff and are still willing to buy in, then we can talk about which AP to take for a spin.

Here's a list of the APs that I would be willing to run.

Kingmaker
Serpent's Skull
Carrion Crown
Jade Regent
Skull & Shackles
Reign of Winter
Mummy's Mask
Iron Gods
Hell's Vengeance
Strange Aeons
Ruins of Azlant
War for the Crown

What I want you to do:

I don't want any character concepts yet. Take five of the above APs and rank them. The one you want to play the most at top, and the one you want to play the least at the bottom.

Next:

If you have PbP posting history on this site, feel free to link it. I want to see who is not going to flake out and disappear. If I can see that you've been part of some PbP for a long time, and if your posts there look nice, then I will put you in the "interesting player" mental bin. Good solid posting history in PbPs will certainly be a big plus, but it is not absolutely required.

If you have friends you'd like to apply with, mention that too. In my experience, playing with friends makes disappearing into nowhere less likely.

Describe your hours. If there's a bunch of players who are all available Wed evenings, for example, I might run chatroom sessions then to make things move a little faster. Make sure to mention your timezone. Oh, and if you're adamantly opposed to running chatroom sessions and want to keep it strictly here on the forums, do mention that, too.

Anything else you might want to tell me about yourself as a player, especially anything that might reassure me that you won't disappear, will also be welcome.

Now I know this sounds a little wishy-washy and I'm not committing to a lot, but that's why this is just an interest check and not a full blown recruitment post yet. I want to see if there's any interest in general first and we can take it from there once I see who shows up if anybody.

With a heavy heart, I must now acknowledge that it is time for me and Paizo to part ways. I am unable to embark on 2e for various reasons, one of them being that starting from scratch with a completely new system requires too much time, money and energy.

Please end my Adventure Path subscription after the final Tyrant's Grasp issue.

It has been an absolute delight being the customer of a company that is so sensitive and progressive with minority issues. I am proud of my 1e collection and suspect that it will remain my system of choice for the rest of my life. It will no doubt take me decades to fully explore all the Adventure Paths I have obtained over the years, and I am looking forward to spending that time sort-of-with-you-even-if-you-have-moved-on.

All my best wishes.

Is there any way to get BAB 1 and occultist implements on the same character?

Liberty's Edge

Hi, I'm looking to run an adventure for a group that is very enthusiastic about animals and would love to help animals in some way. So I'm looking for the most thematic Paizo adventure that is a "champions of nature" sort of thing, helping nature, helping animals, all that sort of tree-hugging stuff. (Or animal-hugging, even better.) A lot of Paizo adventures are about humans or other sentient creatures being in trouble, are there any that would be more about nature, plants and animals being in trouble. The sort of adventure that would be right up a druid's alley for example. What is the Paizo adventure that you would most recommend for these themes? Scenarios, modules and APs are all okay. However, it should preferably be starting at level 1 if at all possible (though I'll take other suggestions).

Hi, my group finished book 3 last time, and we were planning to start book 4 next time (which is in about 11 hours). Turns out though that 2 of 5 players will not be able to make it. I don't want to cancel the entire game, but the Sandpoint siege might be rough with just 3 people, and I also wouldn't want the missing players to miss that action sequence.

So I'm thinking is there any quick readymade adventure that I could snag and adapt with minimal work? Could occur during the trip back to Sandpoint, or once they get back to Sandpoint. I guess PFS scenarios might be about ideal length, but I don't have a lot of them (only seasons 5-6), but I do have most AP issues, so if I could salvage something out of an installment of Crimson Throne or whatnot, that could be really helpful.

Any ideas?

Hi, I would appreciate ideas for a monster that would need to fit very specific requirements. Basically, the opposite of a glass cannon. A glass cannon hits hard but dies fast. I would like a monster that hits weakly but takes a lot of damage to die. Essentially:

* Attack bonus as low as possible
* Damage as low as possible
* Armor Class as low as possible, to be easily hit
* Hit points as high as possible, to take a lot of damage and require a lot of hits to kill
* CR as low as possible

Bonus points if the monster is something mundanes would recognize.

Bonus points if the monster is D&D 3.5.

Layering templates or conditions on the monster is acceptable, if not optimal. :)

I would appreciate any ideas that would spring to your mind. Thanks for your time in advance.

Hi, I would like to ask about three things:

1) I would like to cancel my Starfinder Adventure Path subscription. It has turned out that I haven't even had the time to read the Starfinder CRB yet after more than a year, so the chances of my getting to play the APs in the future is looking slim.

2) Is it possible to cancel the Campaign Setting subscription after Sandpoint but before Construct Handbook? I really want the former but have no interest in the latter.

3) Can you check that the address that is set for future subscriptions is correct? I recently moved, and future shipments should go to the address with a street name starting with S. The address with a street name starting with K is an old one and should no longer receive any shipments.

Hi, soliciting for players, but the parameters might be pretty rough, I dunno.

I will be running Book 1 of a Paizo Adventure Path, with absolutely no commitment to Books 2-6. The AP will be chosen by player poll after I have selected players from this thread. If you do not like the AP chosen, then you may of course step out and vacate your spot for someone else. Not every AP will be on offer, but off-hand I think at least Kingmaker, Jade Regent, Crimson Throne, Skull & Shackles and maybe Serpent's Skull will be options. Maybe others too.

The adventure will be run on FACEBOOK, not the forums, not on Roll20.

I also have some pretty harsh house rules, click on my profile and read the long version of them. Short version: start with really low ability scores, hit dice according to D&D, only female characters (but players may be of any gender), no core races except humans.

If there's any interest after all of this, make a post and tell me something about yourself. Feel free to also discuss which APs you'd enjoy playing and what type of characters you'd enjoy playing (within the limits set in the house rules).

I feel like I want to take an AP and have considerable time (as in, years) pass between installments, so that the entire AP would take 20, 30, even 40 years. Some APs are going to be a worse fit for this sort of thing than others. For example, Jade Regent comes to mind -- a caravan traveling for 20 years might be tough to swallow as believable.

Which APs do you think would be best for this?

Mummy rot makes spell healing (such as Cure Light Wounds) difficult:

Quote:
Anyone casting a conjuration (healing) spell on the afflicted creature must succeed on a DC 20 caster level check, or the spell is wasted and the healing has no effect.

However, does this apply to other forms of healing, such as channel energy or lay on hands?

Hello,

now that I have received my shipping notice for the last part of Ruins of Azlant, I would like to cancel my Pathfinder AP subscription. No change is needed for my Starfinder AP subscription.

As way of feedback, I have no interest in the nations of Taldor and Varisia, as they are too European-flavored areas for my tastes. I am more interested in exploration of new regions. An AP set in Arcadia, Garund, Tian Xia, Sarusan, Vudra, Kelesh or the like would get me back as a subscriber.

Summary:
Cancel Pathfinder Adventure Path after Ruins of Azlant

So, the text for a paladin's divine bond (mount) reads:

Quote:
The second type of bond allows a paladin to gain the service of an unusually intelligent, strong, and loyal steed to serve her in her crusade against evil. This mount is usually a heavy horse (for a Medium paladin) or a pony (for a Small paladin), although more exotic mounts, such as a boar, camel, or dog are also suitable. This mount functions as a druid's animal companion, using the paladin's level as her effective druid level. Bonded mounts have an Intelligence of at least 6.

There doesn't appear to actually be a clause that states that a paladin's mount *must* be one size larger. The closest language is that a medium paladin *usually* has a heavy horse, but usually does not preclude other options. Could a medium paladin have a medium "mount" that they never actually mount, but use as an animal companion like a druid? RAW it looks like that is maybe viable?

So with strict RAW, I could have my human paladin adventuring with a dog animal companion that would technically be a divine bond mount, but would never actually be mounted.

Is there any relevant text forbidding this that I have missed?

A lot of PDFs for old TSR-era material seem to my eye like they're scans from printed product. At what point in TSR/WotC history does the printing process become sufficiently digital that there would exist digital files that could be used to recreate products with lossless fidelity?

Take for example boxed set maps, like the ones in FRCS 1e, Maztica, Kara-Tur et al. Does there exist, somewhere (even if not publicly available) a huge JPG/PNG/RAW image file that contains the entire maps without the physical creases that a scanned image would have?

I'm not asking, necessarily, if that material is available to us consumers, but even is anyone archiving that material behind the scenes at WotC? Or is the possibility to reprint material from that era at 100% fidelity irrevocably lost?

Hi,

I had a Starfinder CRB replacement shipped to me, and it is defective in the same manner as the first copy was. If it's possible to get a second replacement, I would really prefer it to be from a second printing. What's the best way to go about doing that? Should I wait until there's news of a second printing arriving and only raise the replacement issue with customer service then? Or can I raise the issue now but have my request somehow flagged to only be fulfilled with the second printing when it comes in? What would be the most convenient way for customer service to work with this?

I just bought my first ACG, Mummy's Mask Base Set. Some questions I had.

The character cards have leveling checkboxes. Am I supposed to write on the cards and erase if I start a new game?

Most of the card slots in the base set box are too big. For example there's about an inch of Henchmen cards, but the slot is like four inches big. Is this because you're supposed to mix in new cards from when you buy the adventure packs? If so, why is there a separate slot for the adventure packs? Are you supposed to store the adventure packs in the upper left corner big slot or are you supposed to mix them in with the base set cards in the bottom slots?

If I mix in the adventure packs with the base set cards in the bottom slots, does that mean I can encounter monsters and items earlier than I should? Like can I run into Pack 6 monsters and items when going through pack B?

Are non-iconic characters like Simoun and Channa Ti from some source or made whole cloth for the ACG?

What is the benefit to a player playing multiple characters? It seems like due to the blessings deck timer advancing every time the character changes, there isn't a similar action economy benefit as in the RPG. You get to take the same amount of actions, whether you play 1 character (getting to take 30 turns with the one character) or 3 characters (getting to take 10 each, still 30 turns). If I play solo, what are the pros and cons of playing more than one character and is there a general consensus in favor of playing multiple characters? Should I play as many as I can? If I solo play, should I get the add-on deck and play six characters?

When there are doubles of a character, like Alahazra is in Mummy's Mask Base Set and in Oracle Class Deck, why are they different? Is one of them considered canon? Can I use either Alahazra if playing Mummy's Mask, and only the Class Deck Alahazra if playing another adventure path?

What's a "summon"? I ran into a Geniekin card and it said to summon something but I don't know what that means. Is there an index of game terms somewhere, where I could easily look up terms when they show up?

What do you need to buy a Class Deck for, when the character sheets for the characters are freely available as downloads? Are the cards included in the Class Deck "So Much Better" than normal cards? If they're not, why not just use the free character sheet and pick your fifteen card deck from the many Basic item cards that you already have?

Can I bring in new characters between scenarios even if they haven't played up to that point? The rulebook said something about soloplaying a new character to "catch them up" to the group but can't they just join the group without having to go through the motions of having to do the past adventures?

Can a character go over their hand size temporarily and only have to discard down to their hand size when they're resetting their deck? Like if I give another character a card on my turn, and they go over their hand size, will they have to drop another card right then, or at the end of their turn?

Hi,

what are the current options for a class to gain a full level animal companion? (As in, not druid level -3).

I understand that you can't go Nature Soul - Animal Ally - Boon Companion because the last one requires an animal companion as a class ability rather than provided by feats?

Are there any archetypes or other options that allow for non-Druid/Hunter classes to gain a full druid level animal companion?

Any chance we could get the Downloads page streamlined a bit?

At the top, we could have a few buttons.

* Collapse all categories (they are currently all expanded by default which takes a lot of scrolling to get to where you want)

* Hide "one file per chapter" versions
* Hide "lite" versions

The RPG category in particular is getting really unwieldy because of all the "lite" "one file per chapter" options. Let us hide them, please.

Hello,

I believe it's time for me to step out of the Adventure Path subscription for the time being. I have so many unplayed APs built up that I really don't need Ironfang Invasion at this time.

As way of feedback I want to assure that the decision has nothing to do with the development lead -- in fact I dearly hope that I will get the opportunity for other Crystal Frasier APs in the future, as I've enjoyed her work in the past very much. But the premises and setting is just too uninteresting, generic and old hat. Nirmathas and Molthune feel too standard Western European fantasy fare for my tastes and there doesn't appear to be any interesting systemic twist, like Evil AP for Hell's Vengeance or Technology AP for Iron Gods.

In order to get me back as a subscriber, you would need to come up with interesting systemic twists (Dead Suns, being a Starfinder AP, looks promising and I may subscribe for that if there will be a subscription) or explore less Western European areas (I greatly enjoyed Jade Regent and Mummy's Mask and would subscribe in a heartbeat for a Qadira or Distant Shores AP).

I do wish to emphasize that while Pathfinder used to have a record of exploring non-European cultures and regions (Legacy of Fire, Serpent's Skull, Jade Regent, Mummy's Mask) every 2-3 APs, it has now been 7 APs in a row in European type regions and I hate it.

I hope this data will be helpful to you and I hope to be a subscriber again another time.

TL;DR -- please cancel my AP subscription.

This story begins "in medias res" -- in the middle of a situation.

Most of you have recently come to the small town of Longacre. Your reasons are your own, but for whatever reason, you have been looking for some kind of opportunity to make money, power, prestige, contacts or some kind of advantage. Individually, you have been approached by a local young woman, about 20 years or age, named Cimri Staelish, and she has recruited you to help with a nighttime raid of a local tannery.

What you get out of this deal can be hashed out in the discussion thread. If money buys your sword arm for a couple of hours, then that's what you have been promised. If money wouldn't be enough, then other motivations can be explored.

Cimri Staelish: Bust image and full body image.

The Local Tough campaign trait character is highly familiar with Cimri, but to the rest of you, she is an unknown quantity who represents an interesting opportunity. You have just assembled as a group for the first time, and unless your backstories say otherwise, you are meeting each other for the first time.

The Hellfire Compact p. 6 wrote:

The town of Longacre sits just outside the fringes of the Whisperwood. A few lights shine in the streets and windows, and the occasional snippet of conversation or laughter issues from open doors, but here on the outskirts of town, the night is quiet and dark. Sparse clouds scud across the sky, momentarily obscuring the dim light from the moon overhead. Across a scrubby field, barely distinguishable under the starry sky, a darkened, fortlike compound hunches in the distance.

Cimri points toward the dim structure. “That’s it -- Louslik Tannery. Here’s the job: We break in, sack Ol’ Louslik’s office, take whatever’s shiny, and get out before the sheriff shows up. If we get separated, meet back at the Ash House by dawn.”

Dull moonlight glints across her dagger as she flicks it in emphasis. “If you get pinched, remember: you’re mute. Keep your mouth shut, and I’ll handle things. I got assurances that we won’t take any blame if things go south. But get chatty and I’ll let you rot.” A beat passes and her usual crooked smirk appears. “If you don’t screw things up, we’ll all be drinking on Razelago’s coin come dawn. Let’s do this.”

Presumably, after such an out-of-the-blue introduction, you should have some questions, and now is the time to present them. Any questions that your character would want the answers to at this point: fire away. Similarly, some of you might have objections that you might wish to raise at this point.

Any events, information or roleplay that took place in the recruitment thread are null and void.

Opening up recruitment for the first book of Hell's Vengeance: The Hellfire Compact, with the option to go further in the AP if the group wants to and the DM isn't too exhausted. I want to make it clear going in that I may be in only for the first book.

I also have several house rules:

* Gender: Female characters only. (Male-to-female trans is okay.)

* Race: No core races except human. No dwarves, elves, et cetera. Of non-core races, the following are okay: aasimar, android, caligni, catfolk, changeling, ganzi, ifrit, kitsune, lashunta, oread, samsaran, shabti, suli, sylph, tiefling, undine. Others may be asked about.

* Hit dice: According to 3.5. Wizards and sorcerers, for example, have d4 hit points per level. New PF classes get extrapolated to fit. For example, witch is wizard-like and has d4. Oracle is cleric-like and has d8. If in doubt, ask.

* Traits: Two traits plus free Campaign trait. No drawbacks.

* Ability scores: You get one 18 *or* two 14s. For the remaining 4-5 ability scores, you may roll 3d6 or take all 10s, one or the other, no mix and match.

* Ability score increases: Much more prevalent than in core rules. Instead of one point per four levels, you get two points each level.

* Fair warning: DM may have unannounced absences of up to 7 days at worst. For the most part, however, I will be online every 1-2 days.

* Emphases: Low emphasis on system mechanics. High emphasis on NPC interactions and roleplay. Downtime activities as per Ultimate Campaign are available but not mandatory. Relationships with NPCs will have a similar scale as Ultimate Campaign but a faster moving system.

Recruitment will be by RP rather than by sheets. I really don't care about the stats of your character. I want people who produce interesting posts and have RP chemistry. You can make up your character as much as you need to, in order to be able to get into the mindset, but for me, it's enough that you post race, class, archetype and a major class choice if applicable, such as sorcerer bloodline or oracle mystery. I don't need any more crunch than that at this point.

What I want is for you to start RPing amongst yourselves. You're in a tavern in Cheliax, and you've just heard that an Iomedaean crusade called the Glorious Reclamation has invaded Cheliax and intends to destroy the ruling house of Thrune. How do your characters react and interact. That's what I want to see.

You don't need to make an alias until accepted. And if accepted to the game, you may still make any changes to your character, including race and class. I'm choosing players, not characters. This also means that the selected players can work together to synergize their party build.

Anyone interested?

RP away. Put your race, class et al somewhere in your first post, and remember, you're not locked in to them.

Does there exist anywhere a list of Bestiary monsters that would list the source material for each?

Like, it would list that Manitou is from Native American mythology, Mi-Go is from Lovecraftian mythology, and so on?

Just curious because it would give some additional cool context to show where some of these out-there ideas come from.

The sun is setting, the daylight is drawing to a close and twilight is starting to set. It's drizzling, like it often does in these parts. The sea coast is right next to you, you can hear the churn of the surf a little ways distant. You are sitting in a chariot traveling a coastal dirt road southward. In addition to the churn of the surf, you can hear the clacking of the horses' hooves and the squeaking of the chariot's structure. Inside, you're safe and dry from the drizzle. The quarters are cramped, and you are forced fairly close together. The chariot should hopefully be approaching its destination soon -- you had originally been told that you should arrive before sunset, but there had been some delays on the way, and that is why it's getting dark before your journey ends.

This thread for out-of-character discussion.

The first thing we need for you guys are characters. Three of the most important things we start with are:

* Ability scores. Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma. These range from 3 to 18, and higher is better. 10-11 is human average level. In Pathfinder, there are two main ways of generating ability scores, they can either be rolled with dice, or you get a certain amount of points that you can distribute. For the sake of exercise, I am going to let you try both, and pick whichever you like best.

* Races. As I mentioned before, I recommend human because it has the least amount of special ability mechanics to learn Check the Races section of the core rules on the PRD or in the Core Rulebook PDF if you have managed to download it. You may pick other than human if you want to.

* Classes. This is in many ways the most important choice that determines the majority of your special abilities. In the core rules there are 11 classes. For a beginner, I would recommend (but not as strongly as I recommend the human race) picking a class without spellcasting at level 1, because getting to grip with the dozens of spells available requires a lot of reading. These simpler classes would be barbarian, fighter, monk, paladin, ranger and rogue. If you think you would enjoy reading through a bunch of spells and their descriptions, the classes that cast spells from the beginning of their career are bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer and wizard, but these do require more study.

So, to start, I want from each of you ability scores, race and class. For the first, we get to try out the dice rolling system on Paizo forums. Put in your post the following, except change round brackets to square brackets:

(dice)4d6(/dice)
(dice)4d6(/dice)
(dice)4d6(/dice)
(dice)4d6(/dice)
(dice)4d6(/dice)
(dice)4d6(/dice)

From each roll, take the three highest and total them for your final score (or deduct the lowest). This gives you six numbers between 3 and 18. You may assign them to the six ability scores as you will.

Then you may also do a point buy version of the character. You get 20 "points" -- these do not directly map to ability score points, but rather each ability starts from 10, and the cost gets bigger the higher you go, as per Table: Ability Score Costs.

Different ability scores are more useful to different classes, for example a paladin can use a high Charisma, rogues often use Dexterity, Wizards love Intelligence and so on.

So in order to decide which numbers go in which ability, you'll also need to think about which class you want to be. Okay, this is a lot of reading for now, let's get you guys started on doing some. Roll ability scores, and think about your classes. I will give more advice as we go. Ask questions!

I'm offering to run a short play-by-post adventure to new members of the community who want to give playing Pathfinder a try.

You need no experience with Pathfinder rules or play-by-post gaming, I will help out with everything, from character generation to combat procedures to everything else. All you need is interest in the game and time to post on the forums.

I will not expect everyday posting, but in order to keep the adventure moving, it would be good to be able to post 3-4 times a week, roughly every other day.

Expect a "short" adventure to last months rather than days or weeks. Ability to commit for that length of time would be good.

In order to keep things streamlined, only material from the Core Rulebook will be used for character generation.

I will be taking 4-6 players.

If interested, please post a freeform introduction of yourself. I'm mostly interested in hearing about your experience with RPGs, D&D, Pathfinder and/or forum play-by-post gaming, as that knowledge will help me tailor and adapt my approach to your needs.

You do not need a character concept at this point. I will pick players first, and we will only create characters after that.

Takers?

Hello, I'm having trouble with my posts getting eaten.

In this thread, I made two posts under an alias, and neither are showing up. Is there anything that can be done so I can post in that thread again?

Hi, I'm looking for a list of lesbian euphemisms. I'm not talking about vulgar/explicit slurs or insults, but the sort of thing that you would slip into casual language that is 'code' that makes sense for those who know what it means.

Examples:

She wears sensible shoes.
She's a friend of Dorothy.

There's probably a list on the Internet somewhere, but I couldn't quite find one with my googling. Either a link or just posting here on the thread with stuff would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Hi,

considering making my first Pathfinder cleric, but lots of the domains seem to be bogged down with x/day bookkeeping pain abilities. Can anyone recommend good domains that don't have that problem? Passive abilities, or at-will abilities or whatever.
