Opening up recruitment for the first book of Hell's Vengeance: The Hellfire Compact, with the option to go further in the AP if the group wants to and the DM isn't too exhausted. I want to make it clear going in that I may be in only for the first book.
I also have several house rules:
* Gender: Female characters only. (Male-to-female trans is okay.)
* Race: No core races except human. No dwarves, elves, et cetera. Of non-core races, the following are okay: aasimar, android, caligni, catfolk, changeling, ganzi, ifrit, kitsune, lashunta, oread, samsaran, shabti, suli, sylph, tiefling, undine. Others may be asked about.
* Hit dice: According to 3.5. Wizards and sorcerers, for example, have d4 hit points per level. New PF classes get extrapolated to fit. For example, witch is wizard-like and has d4. Oracle is cleric-like and has d8. If in doubt, ask.
* Traits: Two traits plus free Campaign trait. No drawbacks.
* Ability scores: You get one 18 *or* two 14s. For the remaining 4-5 ability scores, you may roll 3d6 or take all 10s, one or the other, no mix and match.
* Ability score increases: Much more prevalent than in core rules. Instead of one point per four levels, you get two points each level.
* Fair warning: DM may have unannounced absences of up to 7 days at worst. For the most part, however, I will be online every 1-2 days.
* Emphases: Low emphasis on system mechanics. High emphasis on NPC interactions and roleplay. Downtime activities as per Ultimate Campaign are available but not mandatory. Relationships with NPCs will have a similar scale as Ultimate Campaign but a faster moving system.
Recruitment will be by RP rather than by sheets. I really don't care about the stats of your character. I want people who produce interesting posts and have RP chemistry. You can make up your character as much as you need to, in order to be able to get into the mindset, but for me, it's enough that you post race, class, archetype and a major class choice if applicable, such as sorcerer bloodline or oracle mystery. I don't need any more crunch than that at this point.
What I want is for you to start RPing amongst yourselves. You're in a tavern in Cheliax, and you've just heard that an Iomedaean crusade called the Glorious Reclamation has invaded Cheliax and intends to destroy the ruling house of Thrune. How do your characters react and interact. That's what I want to see.
You don't need to make an alias until accepted. And if accepted to the game, you may still make any changes to your character, including race and class. I'm choosing players, not characters. This also means that the selected players can work together to synergize their party build.
Anyone interested?
RP away. Put your race, class et al somewhere in your first post, and remember, you're not locked in to them.

I'm Interested
Rosa, A cleric from the hells would very much like to play
GM Q: What starting level, as this may be a one off could I ask that we be a little higher than 1st, say 3ed. It would make for PCs that have a little more at hand than a few things they can do. I find it makes for more fun game wise
1d100 ⇒ 33 You gain DR 2/silver.
1d100 ⇒ 35 You possess long limbs and a powerful grip, features that grant you a +2 racial bonus on all Climb checks.
1d100 ⇒ 73 You can use minor image three times per day as a spell-like ability.
Got to be the DR 2/silver
My PC and a sample of RP.
Descriptions
Sex - Female
Race - Tiefling Devil-Spawn [outsider (native)]
Classes - Cleric (Diabolism) [L1]
Sample of roll play
Rosa, sat alone at her table, the Burning Heretic was a tavern she liked and the food was not so bad. In Cheliax that was not so bad. A slave came over and placed her meal on the table. The young lad looked at her, more in curiosity than fear. Clerics of the Hell's where something you did not get to see that often up-close. She turned her silver orb eyes to him and smiled. Sharp pointed teeth showed.
"Best run along boy before I eat you as well"
She said. The lad ran off as fast as his legs could take him.
She smiled and looked down at the meat on her plate.
Behind her a small time bard was telling the resent news come gossip.
She stopped as the bard said something that did catch her ear.
"Word has it that the Iomedaean crusade called the Glorious Reclamation has invaded Cheliax and intends to destroy the ruling house of Thrune."
Interesting, very Interesting
She knew of house Thrune, the had held power for a while now. This could be a good opportunity, Humm. She fished out a Silver and slung it at the Bard, standing on the small stage.
"Say that last one again, about the so called Iomedaean crusade, everything you know"
She leaned back on her large seat and bit into a chunk of meat. Lets see what was what.

Any chance you'd allow the Nightblade class? I've been looking for a good place to play it and amidst some other evil ladies seems perfect.

I absolutely understand your concern about lack of fun options at low level, but honestly, the adventure is balanced for level 1, and level 3 would just steamroll the encounters, and I don't want to do extra work to toughen every encounter.
Having said that, I am considering using fast instead of medium XP track which would put you at level 2 pretty quickly.

Hello Samy! I would totally be interested. I like your GMing style. So much role play. Not sure what I would want to play. Either a fighter going into either Dualist or Stalwart Defender is it goes long enough. I would love to try Anti-Paladin. I never but really isn't anything to get rid of the plague bringer and the mechanics of that class do not lend itself very well to working with a group closely.
Would a summoner be an option? I would love to try one of those. No live games and most PbPs seem to have a dramatic hate for that class but with the emphases on RP I think that could be a crazy fun class. I would make friends with my summons. I would develop friendships with my summons. I would name them and they would be my buddies. I would have them over for tea!
Probably a Kitsune, changling, or one of the elementals. Not sure. Depends on if I get to try for a summoner.

Rosa_Luminass |

Understood GM, not a problem, 1st it is then.
Stat rolls.
Edit
Wis/Dex 14
Str 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) = 15
Dex take 14
Con 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4) = 12
Int3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6) = 11
Wis take 14
Cha 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1) = 4 wow, than that will be fun to play, she has a Cha of 2
She ends up with,
Strength 15
Dexterity 14
Constitution 14
Intelligence 11
Wisdom 16
Charisma 2
That is not so bad, but 2 Cha is going to be fun to play. As she rolled DR2/silver and has hard skin, thinking of player her like a Hells made statue, completely uncaring and lacking empathy of any kind. She is like a living automaton. Silver skinned, Silver orb metallic eyes, even her blood is colored silver. Just Alien and odd, a thing from the pits.

Eric Swanson |

Hey Samy! I would also like to get in on this game. I was thinking of a sorcerer for this game named Aevelyn Blackhair. I will get up an RP post from her later this evening.
If she is accepted, I will rework her as a full human with an Evil alignment :)
3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5) = 14
3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3) = 8
3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4) = 8
.
3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) = 5
OK with these rolls, she will take the two '14's, and drop the '5' so the abilities are '14', '14', '11', '14', '8', and '8'.

Burnscar |
Eh, might model a character after my namesake. That could be a good time.
I wonder if she'd be a kineticist or a sorcerer. Might even be a psychic.
Or hey, Mad Scientist!
Yeah, I'll make an alchemist. 18 int.
3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16
3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3) = 6
3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6) = 13
"6"
I think I spy a wisdom score there.

Deaths Adorable Apprentice |

*fails Will save and makes a tentative dot*
Summoners can be lots of fun if you don't just slather the field in bodies or steal the melee people's fun with a pouncing death-kitty (which Unchained has fixed somewhat)! Besides, in my experience it's fun to RP the eidolon :)
I have no intention of trying to break combat. Nor do I want to steal any fun. Just ful roleplay. I have no familiarity with the class so I will do a little reading while I am at work then join in the friendly chatting.
3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) = 6
3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) = 7
then I will totally take the 18 so that I am pretty :D
Holy hell! Wow that is way worse then what happened to my Oracle in the mummies mask. Well 6 is my lowest the highest i rolled was the 10. I am defiantly not going into melee with the eidolon like I was considering. I will never get to try that tag team build. Oh well. I have some reading to get to.

Tavitha |

Ok, I definitely want to take part in this. And I can't pass up the chance to actually play a caligni! I see others going Cleric, Summoner, and Alchemist... I think I'll go for a Bloodrager, for a little melee oomph. I'll figure out a name, her personality, and try to post something RP related this evening.
Now let's hope for some decent rolls...
3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6) = 15
3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1) = 7
3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4) = 15
3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2) = 11
Plus the 18.

Rosa_Luminass |

GM I know you have said no Drawbacks, But I would like to take one, not for an added trait but I think it would explain her Cha of 2.
Infamous
You were publicly linked, truthfully or not, to a crime of significant infamy. You draw attention wherever you go and risk imprisonment or worse in the jurisdiction where the crime was committed.
Effect(s): You and your apparent allies take a –4 penalty on Diplomacy checks to interact with law-abiding citizens (except enemies of the authority that accused you).
She is know for slaughtering the followers of Iomedaean, in that way she can have a Cha of 2 with out being an ugly bag of demonic puss. But a very well known evil Cleric of hell. The one the bards sing about in not a good way.

![]() |

I'll be honest with you, I'm not crazy about skinwalkers. You can make such a character, but if you end up running very close with another applicant, if they have a race I like better, the race could be the tiebreaker. So you can make a skinwalker if you want to, but it might slightly disadvantage you in the selection process.

Rosa_Luminass |

Rosa dose not hide who and what she is. She is not in any way a Tiefling who lives in Shame. Her blood is that of Noble Devils of Hell and she has pride in that fact. Rosa seems cold, hard, unfeeling, she dos not seek to be cruel, but she often is. She takes no joy from what she dos as a hound of hell, It's simply her job. Being friendly is hard for her, in fact being anything like human is, she has no senses of Humor but is wise, she knows what empathy is, even if she dos not have it. Her mind is sharp her wits fast her will like steel. Rosa can be terrifying when she wants, but she has no temper she just acts and that is all.
As a LE Cleric of Diabolism Rose is bound by law and acts as Hells tool and bound forever to its will. This is how she became Infamous, she was order to remove 'Completely' an illegally set up church of Iomedaean, that was somewhere in a small woodland town. It was late summer and the land was dry. Rosa doing her job to the letter, waited for the hottest day, and going around that night spiking all the towns doors, then set fire to the woods it was in. They say she walked around in the flames, killing anyone who looked to be getting out. By the time she was done, there was no town any more. She reported back the 'Complete' removal of the illegally set up church of Iomedaean and was never sent on a mission again. Songs are sung about the white Devil of 'Medwood' licking the flames as children burned.
Rosa is striking in looks, You can't miss Rosa, standing some 7.8 feet tall and willow like. Her skin is cold hard and metallic white, with fine white metallic sliver hair. her eyes are cold hard metallic silver orbs that look on Unfeeling and uncaring. Her face is fixed and show no expressions at all. Her voice is flat and emotionless. This can be very disconcerting. Age wise she looks around 30, a odd statuette Tiefling with horns but no tail. Rosa will never pass of anything other than what is is, Horrid Hell Spawn. When she moves the odd thing is she dos with grace and pride. Her armor well made in Black and red, with silver adornments. She seems to carry at all times a large Black Cold iron Greatsword with evil looking runes on it.

Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |

Breeze is my Catfolk unchained rogue submission. I'll need to add one trait. How much money is provided at 1st level? I took half as listed.
RP Stuff:
When the bartender mentioned this revolt, Breeze almost hissed in response. "I hope they have the damned sense to wait a few weeks before bringing more of that crazy talk here. I've got plans, big plans. And if they step on my tail, their revolt might be put down quickly!". As she got excited, close viewers could see her sharp claws extending from their pads, almost with a mind of their own.
She slides a gold to the bartender. "You keep me up on any gossip about this. I'll make it worth your while." Assuming our heist goes off without a hitch, she thought, as she finished her drink and exited the establishment.

Aevelyn BlackHair |

Aevelyn strode into the establishment with a light step in her body and a smile on her face yet her heart was filled with confusion. The rumors coming from her fellow ladies had put a dampener on her social gathering so she had ended the soiree early and decided to investigate further. While her travails were frowned upon by her acquaintenances, she decided she needed to determine whether there was anything to his so-called 'rebellion'.
The Glorious Reclamation? Invading MY homeland? I must know more of this...and how deep this rebellion runs in the commoners blood...
As the others trickle into the tavern, she eyes then closely yet saying nothing, noting every detail.
The cleric Devil-spawn...a Catfolk...how interesting...I wonder who else will join the festivities...
OK I think her profile is all set to go here! Needless to say she is no combatant so I hope we get a few martial types to show up here, he he.

![]() |

You know what, I like the idea of more skill points, but I think the separation into adventuring and background skills is artificial, arbitrary and stupid. So tell you what, every class gets an extra 2 skill points flat out. I hope that you put some of them into more flavorful "background" skills, but I won't mandate two different stupid categories. ;) I'm gonna leave it to self-policing, common sense and good faith.

![]() |

I probably should have put this in the first post, but since I forgot, I'll take this moment to also remind and emphasize that this is an Evil adventure path, and ideally, the applicants I will be selecting will be able to deal with things that are...more uncomfortable than most adventure paths. There may be cruelty to animals, cruelty to children, executing innocent people and so on. I was just reading this one point in a later book that goes into detail about what benefits you can get out of skinning one of the good guys and putting her skin on the wall as a trophy. Everyone needs to know what they may be getting themselves into. This is not an AP for the faint hearted. While a certain degree can always be "faded to black" and done off-screen -- I won't be hitting you in the face with children burning to death unless I'm sure you're okay with it -- at the end of the day there will still be evil stuff happening. And you need to think about where your limits are and what your trigger things are, so we can have a frank discussion as to where to set the limits once the players are selected.

Lucy Arroway |

This is FedoraFerret's submission. Garuda-blooded Aasimar Warpriest of Dahak, taking two 14s.
Ability Score: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) = 9
Ability Score: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) = 8
Ability Score: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4) = 11
Ability Score: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) = 11
Soralia enters the tavern, fist against her hip and sharp teeth clearly visible in the toothy grin she flashes as her eyes sweep the room. "When I heard it was ladies' night, I was expecting something a little more... lively. Well, I guess I'll have to make do." Taking a seat near the bard, who appears to be doing stand up comedy that's both in very poor taste and will likely have Hellknights marching him off any minute, she leans back and takes in the eclectic assortment of patrons.

![]() |

So far we have (ping me if I'm missing someone)
Rosa Luminass, tiefling cleric (Johnny_Panic)
Tavitha, caligni bloodrager (Zaboom!)
Breezelee Krolmnite, catfolk rogue (Gerald)
Aevelyn BlackHair, human sorcerer (Eric Swanson)
Soralia Sinclaire, aasimar warpriest (FedoraFerret)
Jezalane Ki Nightfalcon, human or drow bard (Jedoric)
Nysene Ratarion, oread cavalier (Lady Ladile)
Keep in mind that everything can be altered about the characters if chosen for the campaign, race, class, everything, so that you can build a party that works well together. So don't get too stuck on the crunch at this point. Right now, I just want to see how you people RP together.

Jezalane Ki Nightfalcon |

When I first saw this listing I had a character concept but was unsure what classes would work best to get where I wanted to go. Then I went for a walk and the character concept changed but I like this one better.
I know that you said no elves but would you consider a drow bard? My concept is a drow who after a power struggle in which her family lost and fled the underdark to the surface. Her goal current goal is to become the Prima Donna of the Chilaxian Royal Opera.

![]() |

Drow are considered a separate race in PF mechanically and are a non-core race so they don't suffer from my blanket condemnation of core races, so it's okay to ask. :)
Drow as a race is okay by me, although they might get some racial intolerance. I'm not sure if drow are as hated on Golarion as they are on Faerun, I'll have to check on that. Either way though you'd have an easier time being accepted as an opera singer as a human though.

Tavitha |

In battle she revels in violence, holds nothing back, and gives no remorse. In a social setting she becomes rude and crass, bordering on manic.

FedoraFerret |

For context, drow on Golarion aren't hated, but mostly because most people have never heard of a drow. There's an entire order of elves that spent the better part of several thousands of years making sure that was the case, and up until Second Darkness they succeeded. NowdDrow are known to exist, but not many people know what to make of them.

Nysene Ratarion |
Nysene stepped into the tavern, a frown etched on her normally placid features. The whispers she'd heard on her patrol were troubling - a crusade bent on unseating House Thrune itself?
That can't be right. Probably more nonsense rumors being spread by troublemakers.
Still, it was her job and her duty to keep herself up to date on the current scuttlebutt, in both the city and the country itself. And everyone knew that taverns were one of the best places to do just that.
As she glances around the room several unusual patrons stand out among the crowd, many of them women like herself. She supposed that wasn't too surprising; gossip had a way of drawing out all sorts into the light of day. Conscious of plenty of eyes on her own person - the badge always drew the eye, as it should - she calmly heads over to the bar and has a seat.
"Barkeep! A Rusty Cutlass," she says in a rather low, gravelly voice. As the man obligingly prepares her drink, she glances around the common room and then back. "Looks like you're doing good business today. What's the occasion?"
Nysene is an Oread Cavalier (Constable; trades away all the mount stuff for other goodies) with aspirations of one day becoming a Hellknight.

![]() |

Everyone may also feel free to take any liberties and introduce any developments in the RP at will -- the default assumption is that the recruitment scene won't be canon/in continuity for the game. So feel free to pose in NPCs, control the weather, whatever makes things interesting.

Rosa_Luminass |

I probably should have put this in the first post, but... Evil adventure... cruelty to animals, children, innocent people, skinning alive..
You had Rosa at Evil, she has a reputation to maintain.
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 1) = 9 x10
The last part of RP, was fine, but I have made it that she has had no expressions on her face, or body language. Her voice seems inhuman coming from inside her, as it a talking from some other place. She is not that scary, She just has no Q's to read as to her feeling. Its why she has a Cha of 2, She is not a dead soulless construct, its just she comes over as a dispassionate sociopath. Think metallic Doll that acts alive with an uncaring manner. She seems to understands others feelings, but dos not seem to have them herself, witch can be very off putting.
Rosa got up and walked to the bar, there was a few mutters, but nothing more. Rosa was known here, some of the faces of the lady's coming in she knew, they knew her and she knew them. None give her any trouble and she did not give them any. She was tall, standing some 7 feet +, yet her frame was to thin, willow like. As she got to the bar she held out her class for more red wine. The Bar man knowing her now for some time, refilled her glass and marked her tab. Rosa placed it to her un-moving mouth and the wine seems to seep in. She placed the glass down and then turned her expressionless face to look at the catfolk girl and
Nysene, How she know and was always good to know. Rosa cold inhuman voice came as always from static lips.
"Nysene, you hear words talking of the Iomedaean?"
Silver orb eyes that never blink look out of her cold forever fixed face.
I get the feeling Nysene would know just about every one. So went with rosa knowing her.

Tavitha |

Tavitha entered the tavern with muddy boots and blood-flecked armor that looked more stained than fresh. To most she looked like an unusually homely half-elf with blackened eyes and a skin condition, and she wasn't in the habit of correcting them, or even caring what most anyone thought of her. Except for potential employers, of course.
She leaned on the bar and put down a dented silver piece, pointing at a cheap bottle of hard spirits from the lower shelves. Tavitha took a long draw from the bottle and wiped her mouth with her sleeve.
The first word she picked out of the crowd was Iomedaean, and honed in on that conversation. It was exactly why she was here -- rebels and revolution meant money was being spent to quell the rabble. Though truth be told, the news of late sounded like more than mere peasants and pissed-off religious types.
Tavitha frowned at the mention. "Glorious Reclamation, indeed," she muttered, punctuated with an indignant snort.
