If Malarra uses the weapon, she rolls the Aid Another; if Milady uses the weapon, she rolls the Aid Another.

It's your choice which of the two ways you go.

The Google Slides now shows your XP as: "32/160". What that means is.

I'm gonna pool together all XP rather than counting separately. I don't see value in people leveling at different times from each other. So if one person needs 2000XP to level, then eight people need to amass a total of 16000XP. I don't see any value in constantly writing way too many 00s, so I'm dividing the numbers by 100 to arrive at 160XP that you as a group need to gather in order to level. For the Tatterman scene, each PC received 4XP (officially 400, but divided by 100), and multiplied by all eight, that's 32XP. So that's how you have 32XP out of 160XP needed to level.

I'm not a stickler about keeping the statline hyper-updated every combat round. I expect the statline to be updated more along the lines of after every combat, so there should be plenty of time to update it during the downtime.

I've settled on a format for the under-name tagline. If you would format yours as follows, please:

Race (Subrace) Class (Archetype) from Region | HP x/x | AC x | Perception +x | Campaign Trait

I don't need gender, level, touch or flatfooted ACs or saves.

I want to express my deepest appreciations to everyone for talking about things. It is absolutely not my intent for this to be a "hot lesbians" campaign of any kind, so if the campaign errs in that direction at any point, I will be very grateful if someone speaks up to put things on the right track.

I am not great at picking up trigger cues and can from time to time be oblivious to something being offensive, but I want to assure everyone that if you bring it up, I will do my best to treat your concerns with the utmost respect.

I do enjoy the building of relationships, both PC-PC and PC-NPC, so I do want to promote that kind of RP in my campaigns, but I do want to avoid it happening in an uncomfortable manner to anyone.

As always, I think communication is key. I want to give big thanks to Erisa, Danoir and Milady for speaking up and explaining the issue, and it is my intent that the campaign take their worries into consideration. I want to thank Vixen for agreeing to course correct. Now I suggest we play forward a little and see if the issue is fixed so that everyone is comfortable.

I want to second Malarra's words:

Malarra wrote:
if something I say or do proverbially rubs one of you the wrong way though, please feel free to call me out on it (in discussion or in PM, whichever way you feel more comfortable).

That applies to me as well. This discussion thread and my PM box will always be open to raising any concerns about your comfort with the campaign. I would very much like this to be a safe space for everyone to express their worries without belittling of any kind.

Okay, I've selected my top six. And what I'm going to do is, those six are going to get to vote whether we should take in a seventh (because every character addition reduces the spotlight for existing players). Assuming they vote in a seventh, those seven are going to get to vote whether we should take in an eighth. And so on, until the group decides no more. So if you're not in the first six, there's still a chance you might get in. For now, though, the first six are:

Milady by Lobster
Vixen by Sidekick
Matsu by Helikon
Saiya by EverAnon
Danior by rutaskadis
Erisa by Tiessa

Those selected, please report to the discussion thread.

Getting really close to deciding the group now. There's no way I can take just four, there's so many great characters I'm gonna have to take more than four...trust me when I say, it's wracking my heart making these calls. I'm gonna go create campaign threads now and stew over my probable selections for a little bit more...but I think I'm starting to settle on many of my choices. Won't take long now. Hang in there.

Click on my name, go to my profile, read my house rules. Short version:

* no male characters
* no core races (except human)
* hit dice according to D&D 3e
* ability scores 63 total points 1:1 cost

Here's a few more that aren't in there.

* In addition to normal Golarion deities, you may also worship deities from the Forgotten Realms setting. Somehow, I've never really connected with the Golarion deities, so I'm expanding the pool you can draw from. Of course, the Golarion deities are normally available. FR deities' domain lists are as in their 3e writeups, but said domains function as their PF versions. 3e domains that do not have a Pathfinder version may be negotiable, ask if interested.

* Unchained Background Skills system is in use, minus Artistry and Lore.

* Three traits. One campaign trait and one any other trait is as normal. Then you have a free regional trait as well. The regional trait must specify a proper name region, not "any city" or something like that. This is to encourage and inspire geographic and cultural thinking of your character's background.

* Evil characters *are* allowed, but I am *extremely* draconian about any sort of PvP. Do not steal from your party, do not backstab your party, do not betray your party, do not do any behind-the-scenes shenanigans that will get other party members in hot water. If you can't play an Evil team player, then don't play Evil at all. If you start causing trouble for the party, I will take over control of the character. First and only warning.

* No 3rd party material. However, WotC 3.x material is worth asking about. (No Book of Nine Swords though, sorry.)

* I reserve the right to add more if I forgot something.

I will probably run the recruitment quickly. I will close as soon as I find enough characters that I connect with, so you don't want to leave anything to the last minute. Max 5 days; if I haven't found enough by then I will not run the game.

I particularly enjoy non-European flavored characters -- Qadiran, Vudrani, Tien, Erutaki, Osirian, Garundi et al. -- so those will have an edge in getting in, but not so much that I will take a mediocre Vudrani over a great Andoren. If I have to pick between a great Taldan and an equally great Tien, the latter would probably get the nod.

What I want in your submissions:

* Not much crunch. Name of course. Race plus ethnicity/subrace if applicable. Class and archetype. Ability score distribution. Traits and feats. Alignment is important. You do not need to distribute skill points, buy equipment, select spells or build your animal companion unless accepted.

* An image link would be nice to get a feel for the character.

* Not much fluff. You're amnesiac. Half the point of Strange Aeons is that I end up telling you what your background is, so don't write a year-by-year history of where you lived your whole life. If you retained a maximum of five memories of your whole life, what would they be? None of them can be from the past five years. What fluff you write, focus on your personality, not your history. What kind of person are you, how would you react to different situations. Alignment is a great place to start thinking about examples. But again, not much here. Max two paragraphs.

* Mostly OOC player meta information. You can check the Interest Check thread in this forum for the kind of things I asked about. What I want to know about you as a player. PbP history, commitment level, why should I believe that you will not disappear, and so on. People who already did that in the previous thread do not need to repeat themselves here. Also, if there's important no-nos and hard limits that you don't want to see in-game, this is the place to mention them. Do bear in mind that a horror AP will kind of require some level of gore, so I hope there won't be a lot of requests for no-gore.

I guess there's a bunch here. I'll add as I think of more, and as always, ask away.

Oh, posting frequency. I'm *hoping* to drive the story fairly quickly, and will not wait around a lot. So it would be great if you could check in 2-3 times a day at your best, and at least every other day at your worst (barring pre-arranged vacation times). These are flexible and I'm not draconian about them, but they should give you a little idea of what sort of pace I'm hoping for.

Oh and READ THE PLAYER'S GUIDE OF COURSE!!!

The lack of official character sheets for several characters is a big part in why I have no interest in putting any more money into PACG. Within the space of a single year, I'm getting a few too many experiences of "we're moving forward and not supporting you anymore" with products named Pathfinder. RPG is ceasing to support 1e, ACG is jumping past many characters in supplying sheets. Makes me feel unvalued and not wanting to associate anymore.

With a heavy heart, I must now acknowledge that it is time for me and Paizo to part ways. I am unable to embark on 2e for various reasons, one of them being that starting from scratch with a completely new system requires too much time, money and energy.

Please end my Adventure Path subscription after the final Tyrant's Grasp issue.

It has been an absolute delight being the customer of a company that is so sensitive and progressive with minority issues. I am proud of my 1e collection and suspect that it will remain my system of choice for the rest of my life. It will no doubt take me decades to fully explore all the Adventure Paths I have obtained over the years, and I am looking forward to spending that time sort-of-with-you-even-if-you-have-moved-on.

All my best wishes.

Back on topic, I wish there had been a way to build a sor/wiz familiar so that it made RP sense, if you always intend to pick up Improved Familiar and an elemental familiar as soon as you hit level 4, then something to build up to it during levels 1-3.

It sucks that you have to run 3 levels carrying a weasel, knowing all the while that you're going to ditch it for an elemental at level 4. It makes no RP sense.

I always wanted a tiny elemental option so you could do an elemental familiar from the beginning.

Mostly, the eurocentrism. Sure, there's Serpent's Skull and half of Jade Regent and Mummy's Mask, and those are some of my favorite APs, but by and large APs have been very safe in eurocentric areas. I can't believe we've never gotten a Vudra AP. Arcadia has to settle for table scraps. Tian Xia has basically been forgotten since Ruby Phoenix and Jade Regent. Instead, we're doing Giantslayer, and Ironfang Invasion, and Hell's X, and Strange Aeons, and Runelords once again, and Tyrant's Grasp visiting all the safe and boring and so very eurocentric regions over and over again.

Sure, maybe that's all that the market supports, but this thread did not ask me what the market supports, the thread asked what I dislike, and this is what I dislike.

An Arcadian AP, with an intended focus on native Arcadian PCs (but prepared to accommodate Inner Sea ones as well).

Book 1 -- Iroquois type setting
Book 2 -- Inuit type setting
Book 3 -- Apache type setting
Book 4 -- Aztec type setting
Book 5 -- Arawak type setting
Book 6 -- Inca type setting

Could maybe jiggle the exact settings a little from that, but the basic idea would be like that -- explore a different cultural region with each book in a "world traveling" type AP that requires you to travel the length of Arcadia.

The support articles would of course be focused on providing the necessary information to play Arcadian natives, like detailing ethnicities, gods et al.

I just want to explicitly note that my disinterest in this book does NOT reflect a general disinterest in "Blood of" books. In fact more "Blood of" books is my single most wanted PF supplement, and I want nothing, literally nothing more than more options for my favorite races: android, lashunta, shabti, ganzi, caligni, sylph (Blood/Elements barely gave them anything!) and the aforementioned samsaran. I will buy the heck out of any book where you give subraces and alternate racial traits for any of those races. I would literally pay double the normal price for the same page count, if you give me material on those guys. Especially lashunta. I'm crazy about lashunta. Gimme more on them before you close PF1e.

Subraces (for customizing ability modifiers) and alternate racial traits (for swapping out racial traits that you won't use) are the #1 most important thing to provide for races. Spells, eh, there's thousands of spells. Traits, same thing. Magic items, ditto. We don't need race-specific spells/traits/items, we can just use the ones available to every race. But we *cannot* use the subraces/alternate racial traits available to every race. They *need* to be race-specific, there are no generic ones available to every race. So we badly need for those to be provided. I guess favored class bonuses theoretically fall in that same bracket since (other than the base hp/sp option) there are no favored class bonuses available to all races, so they also need race-specific options provided. But I'm not so desperate about that because the base hp/sp option is pretty good and I'm happy to go with it.

Please?

(Also, it would be a really kind thing if you could slip in somewhere a couple of different ways for dhampirs to combat their negative energy affinity. It's a bit of a pain to deal with.)

Well, after the initial shock, I realized that I really do have enough 1e material to last me a lifetime, so I can happily keep playing it forever if need be. So once I got secure in that idea, it's easier to take tentative nibbles that maybe I could make use of *some* parts of 2e (like the APs).

Have you considered the possibility of making 1e PDF versions of 2e APs? After selling 10k 2e copies, maybe you could make available a PDF that just swapped out 2e statblocks to 1e statblocks, to fish out 3k more sales with minimal effort? (I'm not even suggesting 1e print versions, because of printing economies of scale...)

I do understand the logic that that could entice people to stay with 1e and thus cut into your 2e profit margins, so if not that's fine. Just throwing out ideas.

Honestly, the main barrier to doing that, and the reason it's harder than vice versa, is simply PF1 itself. By which I mean, If you have an appropriate PF1 monster or NPC handy already (like if you're fighting a troll and you have the B1 troll handy from PF1), it shouldn't be too hard, with the main task being treasure adjustment. If not, then just the fact that making a monster/NPC is always inherently complicated in PF1 is going to slow you down in that direction.

That sounds pretty promising, thanks Mark. It would be a lovely olive branch if the first 2e AP focused on creatures (not exclusively, but largely) that are also found in 1e, to make that sort of swapping easy, and thus allow 1e players to sample the first 2e AP.

Mark, I'm talking about the other direction. (Running 2e adventures in 1e system.) We already saw you run Everflame on the video on the fly, so we know that's doable -- it's the other direction that some people are still wondering (and hoping) about.

I don't intend to jump into 2e until there's much more races and classes, so it would be really cool if we could still continue to buy the AP line and use them in 1e while waiting for 2e to fill out with the options we require.

I still don't understand what they are trying to fix with a second edition.

I absolutely understand.

1) They feel that the CRB is very badly organized and doesn't read well to people new to the game. Witness Strategy Guide as their stopgap measure to try to address that.

2) They feel that there are a lot of mechanics that have been introduced after the CRB that really *should* be in the CRB, like swift/immediate actions, traits, archetypes. They want to rewrite the CRB so that these very basic components of gameplay are introduced in the most core book. (Or made obsolete, as in action economy.)

3) They feel that they have accumulated a ton of FAQs on post-it notes over the years that aren't available in print anywhere, and re-doing the CRB gives the opportunity to incorporate all these FAQs and clarifications.

I think these three goals are very, very understandable, and I would absolutely support a Pathfinder 1.5e that basically did stuff on this level.

Having said that, since they decided to do *those*, there's also the "while we're opening up the patient, let's do a hundred other things too", and that's where things start getting iffy to me. Depending on what those things are, how many of them there are, and how drastic they are, they could have a seriously detrimental effect on compatibility between editions. *This* is where I start getting jittery and very cautious.

I would totally not object to a re-done CRB, but bigger changes to the system...that's treading on dangerous ground for me.
