"Let us dispatch these persons of poor judgment with hast." Lightfoot declares as he draws his blade and corners the sole enemy combatant he can see.

Realizing that the kasatha he and his allies have been sent to escort will soon be arriving, Lightfoot heads to the gate.

Two port employees stand at the desk in front of a large holographic screen that displays the gate’s schedule.

A passenger is attempting to get assistance from the human male gate attendant. The other gate attendant is scribbling notes next to a dossier of flight information in a non-Common language.

Having glanced at the notes scribbled by the gate attendant, he that the notes are benign specs about shifts and crew on flights, along with her own snide commentary about the annoying parts of her job, which reveals that she is not a mercenary.

Sense Motive w/expertise: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 5 + (4) = 28

He is alarmed, however, when he spies he human woman, engaging in deception and concealing a firearm at the back of her waist. He moves to intercept her. As he does, he mentions into his comm unit, "The human woman, by the gate, is almost certainly one of the prospective assailants. She has a weapon at the ready near the back of her waist and should be disarmed if there is time. Regardless, I am moving to intercept her."

"Anybody good at spinning tales? Maybe you could bluff him into leaving while we escort our person out of here?"

"My devotion is Sarenrae, whose light illuminates the darkness. I am a bearer of light, not deceit." Lightfoot replies into the comm, attempting to not sound too displeased by the suggestion. "Perhaps, if we shed light on his situation, let him know his attempt at misdeeds has been discovered and that he and any companions have no hope of success, then he may well repent and see, by such illumination, the error of his ways?"

Lightfoot is willing to try Diplomacy, even Intimidation if he must, but not Bluff.

"If, he is communication with others, they are most likely nearby." reflects Lightfoot, as he considers the man in the mask.

The ysoki attempts to approach the masked man quietly.

He then tries to disable the mask.

In an effort to uncover information, Lightfoot heads to the information kiosk. There he keeps his ears open.

"There does not appear to be anything out of the ordinary here." he reports over the comm unit.

Lightfoot drops the spent weapon, then charges ahead drawing his pistol.
He continues to fire on his earlier target.

Lightfoot again moves and lines up a shot against one of the robots.

"Feel free to take these shields out into the field with you if you'd like - the weapons, too!"

Lightfoot sighs once again, checks the harness on the shield and then picks back up the sniper rifle."It is our duty, I suppose, to honor the request of our host."

Taking a deep breath, the ysoki re-activates the shield and then heads out into the test area.

When the shooting starts, Lightfoot moves to an area with a clear line of fire (I understand that none of the craters provide cover?) and that he lines up a shot against one of the robots.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kaylee's player and family.

The ysoki rubs his eyes for several seconds. "I trust you obtained the data that you need from the testing?" he says with a hopeful squeak.

Lightfoot examines this new technology.

Engineering: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

"Apologies again, Master Geshki, but I spotted another matter that I thing should be considered before these devices are used in field testing" Lightfoot says. "If I am not mistaken, there is a strong probability that this personal protective device will emit a blinding energetic burst likely to have an adverse impact on the visual acuity of its wearer."

He attempts to appeal to the half-orc, but sighs and agrees to wear the device for indoor testing if Geshki insists. Should any of his allies express an interest in wearing the device, Lightfoot will convey what he has learned about the design of the force field equipment.

Lightfoot sighs and then picks back up the sniper rifle."No sacrifice is too small for the preservation of duty and honor," he assures himself.

He points the rifle down range and fires.

The ysoki then takes aim for his final two shots.

Examining the spread, the ysoki notes, "May I humbly suggest that the R&D team consider a few more changes beyond the battery issue that I previously mentioned?"

"If I may humbly, have a moment of your time, Master Geshki," Lightfoot expresses as he places the weapon back down on the table. "However, it would appear that there is a small matter that may have been overlooked in design. For it appears to me, based upon my own experience and training, that the mechanism within the weapon would seem to have a tendency--albeit a somewhat slight one--to eject the weapon's battery following its expenditure and, perhaps of more concern, cause that battery to instantaneously explode"

"I am certain Master Geshki, that such was not the intent of your employers and that, as the manufacture of weapons and munitions is a complicated art, one might expect small errors to be occasionally be made or for flaws to appear within a weapon's construction" continues the ysoki, trying to be assertive yet polite. "Yet, as the potential for harm from such an ejection--no matter how rare it may be--is more than minimal and, as I am certain, the longevity and well-being of your patrons is among the foremost of the concerns of your company, I thought it important to bring this matter to your attention quickly and, as best as I can manage, discreetly."

Lightfoot politely gestures to his fellow Starfinders to allow them to have first choice of any weapon on the table. "Please, after you," he offers.

Once his allies have each chosen a fire arm, he picks up one of the remaining ones.
Presumably, the Swarm Zapper, as no one else has yet picked one up.

"Now, what have we hear?" he says aloud as he inspects the weapon.

"Admittedly, we, ysoki, do not harbor much fondness for cats--regardless of their origin or subjection to control." Lightfoot concedes, wishing to be both polite and honest. "It is certainly an unusual pastime that you have settled upon to fill your moments of time. However, I do think it wonderful that such activities evoke such clear and obvious enthusiasm within you."

Diplomacy w/expertise: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (16) + 6 + (1) = 23

Flenn sends a direct message to the team over comms, "WE WERE TOLD THE DATA WOULD BE WITH THE OCCUPANT. LET'S LISTEN TO HIS TALK, AND SOMEONE MAKE EXCUSE TO GO TO THE JOHN AND SNOOP AROUND."

He walks into the recreation room, holding the door open for the others.

"Snoop??" questions Lightfoot, a touch of indignation evident in his squeaky, high-pitched voice. "Among the tenants of the Dawnflower is honesty and for good reason. If you plan to engage in some base subterfuge or vile deception, then I want no part of it. We have been invited into this being's sanctuary out of his goodwill and I will not see it violated."

Yeah, Lightfoot is not only poor at deception, but he wants no part of it. I am happy to have him (unwittingly?) distract our "host" while those better skilled take to stealing the data.

"My name is Rozzicheep Bernnshaw, although my friends call me 'Lightfoot' and I pray that I may soon include you among them,"says the ysoki with a polite bow. "If I may be of some small aid to your endeavors then I shall do my best to render such. Just as the sunlight of the fair goddess, Sarenrae, shines brightly and staves back the darkness, I, too, try to live a life of authenticity and genuineness allowing the light to reveal my true being and intention. I try to live in such a way that I have no need for secrets and have no qualms to submitting to the scan that you have proposed."

Lightfoot submits to the scan and then waits patiently for entry through to be granted before he heads further into the complex as requested.

"A 'roll in the meteor dust'?!" Lightfoot repeats, his pious indignation evident. "How dare you, Friend, besmirch the good name of my colleague and ally? Were we not ourselves, friends and allies, I may well take it upon myself to more forcefully ensure that your tongue were held further!"

The ysoki bows apologetically to Kaylee, "Please accept my regret that I have not better counseled our colleague or served as a suitable model of behavior as to see that proper dignity and respect be given to another sentient being. And may the goddess, herself, remind me that her grace comes in such abundance that I should endeavor to share but a small portion of it when addressing the errors and small-minded manners of those that I have chosen--and do continue to choose--to call 'friend'."

Lightfoot listens to the android download information, but just shrugs.

Seeing the fiend inflicted, Lightfoot decides a double dose may be better.

Following the cues of his allies, Lightfoot fires where directed.

Lightfoot instinctively goes for his dueling blade, and then relents."A demon is not worthy of the honor of being dealt with by righteous blade." Lightfoot declares as he draws his sonic pistol, then moves out into the open area, offering himself as a target and trying to draw any impending ambush away from his colleagues.

With Flenn suggesting certain smells to be on the lookout for, Lightfoot keeps his nose out for trouble as he ventures with the others through the tunnel.

"Certainly, a unique flavor. " comments the ysoki, trying not cause offense with his distaste for the substance.
"The culinary arts, however, like other forms of art remain quite subjective. Please, do not be offended if your works are not to everyone's liking."

" That energy damage which you have described in analytic detail, Hunter Killer 42S, almost certainly the result of
magic, rather than some technological weapon or device " noted Lightfoot over the comm.

Then, when the anacite offers a morsel, Lightfoot politely accepts, "You have my gratitude for your generosity and kindness" says the ysoki. He quietly says a prayer to his goddess, then takes a bite.

"A plan that appears to be most sound Hunterkiller 42-5" Lightfoot declares. I offer my skills both as diplomat and connoisseur. Shall I look up reviews before speaking with this most unusual food peddler."

" 'Classified'" Lightfoot repeats solemnly in reply to the corporate woman. We are requested to secure a threat that has already proven itself deadly, seemingly on multiple occasions and risk our own souls. Yet, you withhold the very information likely necessary to prevent further harm to ourselves as well as to others. Such behavior is unbecoming and must be condemned."

The ysoki pauses to allow for the weight of his words to sink in.

"Nevertheless, as there are souls in peril, I will venture forth to find, to confront, and, to the extent possible under the circumstances, to put an end to this threat. I do so, not out of any approval of the actions giving rise to the need of such sacrifice, but out of my devotion to my goddess and her care for my fellow sentient beings. May Sarenrae bless our endeavor and see to its success fruition." Lightfoot declares.

"This, 'rift', as you call it. Do you, per chance, have any idea as to just what plane happened to lie on the other side of it?" Lightfoot inquires.

"Well done, my noble compatriots! It seems as though we have all been as tested as the ship that we were charged in evaluating. You have so passed with honor!" declares Lightfoot as he flies the ship close to the neutralized drone for inspection.

"I must concede that I am finding the responsiveness of the controls a bit slow and the navigational displays are not intuitive." reports Lightfoot as he attempts to stay out ahead of the drone. "Nonetheless, I believe that I am getting the hang of it."

He then attempts to position the ship, to bring the rear guns to bear.

I have put on the map a yellow, dotted flightpath if the Starfinders go first.

"Hang on, my intrepid allies!" suggests Lightfoot as he attempts to get the jump on the drone starship and bring the ship around evasively.

"Lightfoot" straps himself into the piloting chair at the helm and surveys the console and flight controls to check their responsiveness.

"Ready to depart, brave Starfinders!" he declares.

Lightfoot an handle most rolls modestly, except for Science Officer.

"I pledge to uphold the honor and integrity of the Society and see our endeavor completed to satisfaction.." replies a white-furred ysoki rising to his feet in response. He is adorned in a newly-fitted suit of ash dendron armor, which despite its organic, tree-like composition, has been decorated with a sun-themed motif. At his side is slung a rune-etched dueling blade that gives off a slight hum.

Addressing his fellow agents assembled before him, he announces,
"My name is Rozzicheep Bernnshaw, servant of Sarenrae and devotee of the Dawnflower. And though I have had opportunity to work alongside the one self-designated as HunterKiller 42-5, I do not believe that I have had the pleasure of doing so among the rest of you."

"My charge, which is to bring the goddess' radiance to the ends of the galaxy, has prompted my friends to refer to me as 'Lightfoot' and I pray that, soon, I will be able to count each of you among them."

"May I?" Lightfoot asks as he reaches for the strange orb. Noting the grime, he opens his medkit and removes a disinfectant wipe and attempts to remove the grime covering the object before in order to better determine its nature and purpose.

"There." he says. "It just required a little extra attention."
