Hi, I’ve got a preorder for a GM screen hanging out in my sidecart, but I already bought one at GenCon, so if you could cancel it that would be great.

Also, I’ve got enough subscriptions to qualify for free society PDFs, and I’ve got it set to PFS in my subscriptions, but for some reason I never got them this month, the only PFS2 stuff in my account are the two mods I ran at GenCon. Does something need to be nudged to get those, or am I just missing something?

Why is it so weirdly hard to figure out what a character's spell roll mod, and save DC are, and perhaps most importantly why is it impossible to figure out what you actually roll for ranged or melee touch attack spells.

Every spellcasting class tells you what attribute you should use for Spell Rolls and Spell DCs, but then refers you to page 291 for how to calculate them, a page that has zero to do with calculating them. That page doesn't mention spells at all. It does have some general stuff on calculating target DCs though, so maybe that's what is intended? Anyway, it's super cryptic.

Finally, after a super long time searching I checked the glossary in the back where it revealed to me that Spell DC is 10 + your spell roll modifier, and your spell roll modifier is your prof modifier in that type of spell plus the associated attribute modifier. It's weird that this isn't just mentioned either on page 291 or more usefully just in the spellcasting section of each class that gives you spells (seriously, what is up with the overuse of cross referencing in this book, I shouldn't have to flip to an entirely different section every 2 minutes).

Now that we've figured that out let's try to use it. I want to cast a Ray of Frost at that there goblin. What modifier do I use? My Spell Roll modifier? I would think so, but none of the pregen characters did that, they use a trained DEX prof modifier. But then the Spell Attack section on page 197 says I'm supposed to use the prof modifier from my spell attack stat. Is that supposed to be with the spell attribute mod or the DEX mod? It's totally unclear.

Does anything actually use a Spell Roll at all? At first glance I couldn't find anything while paging through the book. Everything is either using the Save DC or a Ranged or Touch Attack.

This shouldn't be anywhere near this hard to figure this stuff out.

Just a few things I've noticed that seem weird.

The Bastard Sword is listed as doing Piercing damage. That seems wrong, it should be Slashing right?

The Telekinetic Projectile cantrip uses d10s for its damage on every level other than 3rd, where it does 1d8+casting mod. Should it be 1d10+casting mod?

This is the recruitment thread for my session of the Pathfinder Playtest scenario Rose Street Revenge.

Fair warning, while we can kick things off during part one of PBP Gameday VII, I will be on an extended vacation from August 16th to September 1st, so the majority of the game will be running from September 2nd onward. We can start discussing character creation once the pdfs drop on August 2nd.

I expect that the game will be pretty low key from August 13th through September 1st, but after that I expect people to post at least once a day, ideally more often if we're in the middle of a combat encounter or something like that. I'd also like everyone to leave at least basic instructions for how to bot their characters in case they are unexpectedly unable to post for longer than a day.

I'll accept 6 players chosen at my whim from whoever expresses interest. No previous experience in PBP games is required, but if this is your first game please let me know.

Can an Operative use something like Jump Jets (which can be activated as part of a move action) as part of a Trick Attack? I suspect not, since Trick Attack is worded as "move up to your speed", not "take a move action", which makes my Android Operative sad, but I figured I'd double check.

This is part of Play by Post Gameday IV.

The Starfinder Society needs a team to investigate a distress beacon. Explore the future of science fantasy with five quests featuring urban brawls, frontier gunfights, starship combat, and more!

Long Description:
A series of six Starfinder Quests designed for 1st-level characters. When a mysterious visitor comes to Absalom Station selling items belonging to a lost Starfinder, the Starfinder Society takes note. The PCs are dispatched to discover out how the recent arrival found these items, leading them on a series of quests beyond the Pact Worlds and into the stars. “Into the Unknown” includes five, 1-hour adventures that take the PCs from exploring Absalom Station, to partaking in starship combat, to exploring an alien world. The fifth adventure in the series provides a stunning conclusion that takes the PC’s previous accomplishments into account for a climactic final showdown against an enemy starship.

Some technical notes: You need to play a 1st level SFS character, or use one of the 1st level pregens. I'll expect people to post at least once a day (hopefully more if something exciting is going on), and if you're not going to be available you're expected to allow me to bot your character. The game can accept up to 6 players. I'd personally prefer 4, since I've never GMed a PBP before, but if there are more than 4 interested we'll see what we can do. The game will start on October 6th.

I just noticed that Incident at Absalom Station doesn't show up in the event reporting page on paizo.com. All the SFS adventures and quests are there, but there's no Starfinder Adventure Path that I can find, even though it's supposed to be legal and there are equivalent entries there for the PFS legal Pathfinder Adventure Paths.

Am I missing something? Are plays of the adventure path just not supposed to be reported, or is it just an oversight and it'll show up eventually?

So what sort of armor upgrades are the cool kids installing in their Android upgrade slot? It looks like at character creation the best option available is a Quick-Release Sheath. Is that worth the credits, or should I save my money for some Jump Jets in a couple of levels?

Hi, I just received order 4354873 and everything looks good except that you sent me a copy of the Cavernous Lair Flip Mat instead of the River Crossing Flip Mat that I ordered.

So, say my Operative is making a trick attack. Do I have to come up with some in-universe way to justify my use of whatever skill I'm using for the check?

There's nothing in the base definition of the ability that says so, it just says to "attempt a Bluff, Intimidate, or Stealth check (or a check associated with your specialization; see page 94) with a DC equal to 20 + your target’s CR". If I'm using Stealth, do I have to justify that by explaining what I'm hiding behind, or can I just hand wave it? Do Bluff or Intimidate require me to be able to communicate with my enemy?

One other relevant piece of data is the Hacker specialization, which specifically says in regard to using the Computers skill to create a distraction that "you can’t use this option if stripped of all computerized gear in an area with no computers".

For anyone who hasn't seen them yet, there are a couple of full page spreads (one of the Shirren, the other from the beginning of the Mystic) over at Enworld that are worth looking at.

Has anyone tried one of the Kindle Fire HD 8s with Paizo PDFs? Older threads say the Fire HDX 8.9 is big enough to handle a full page while still being readable, but it's got something like twice the resolution of the Fire HD 8, not to mention the slightly larger screen. Just curious if someone has given it a shot before I pick one up.
