Liberty's Edge

I'm proud of you, Paizo.

Liberty's Edge

Wake me when there's a Warforged Druid who turns into a raptor and saves the ancestors of humanity :P

Liberty's Edge

Cheliax has always seemed a bit Nazi-ish for me, mainly because their symbol is similar to a swastika or a sun circle, and both of those are Nazi symbols. Andoran is Revolutionary War-era America, Taldor is medieval Britain, and Irrisen is Russia.

Personally, martials should be like super heros. Let the muggles be mundane, fighters should be treated like Captain America. Sure, Scarlet Witch can modify reality (God-Wizard Wish!), but, come on. Cap's kicking ass in all the most badass ways. You seriously tellin' me Cap's mundane?

I agree with you. The fighter archetype isn't inspired by "regular" warriors, but on par with mythical heroes. Sure, those guys were usually backed by gods, but Ajax, Odysseus, Jason and Sigurd weren't. Even though I think "cutting a mountain in half" is a bit over-the-top, I think martials should be able to fight through spells and generally kick the asses of supernatural beings the same way mythological heroes did. This is coming from a guy who plans on playing an alchemist, but I friggin' love martial classes waaaay more than casters. Then again, the alchemist isn't considered a caster by Paizo, so I guess it technically counts as a "martial" class.

Liberty's Edge

I also have a soft spot for "stupid" monsters like flumphs, disenchanters, and, of course, the always-loveable thought eater (The 1E version that is) :D

Before I started playing, I saw a guy stat up one for a homebrew game. Kinda makes me want to pick up the ARG and see how many RPs it'd take up.

Liberty's Edge

I'm expecting/hoping something like Bestiary 5. That said, I want to see Unchained :D

Simply put, WotC decided they wanted illithids to be all theirs, probably because aboleths are nowhere near as popular to use.

True, but it's also kinda weird that we still have driders when D&D came up with driders, and they're linked to the drow, who are ridiculously popular (drow are derived from mythology, but driders aren't). It's kinda weird, but hey. It's WotC's decision.

Liberty's Edge

I miss the Tome of Battle and some of the monsters/races. I don't really get why aboleths are OGL while illithids aren't. Plus, I really like Golaths as a player race. I'm hoping Paizo makes a "pseudo-giant" medium-sized race sometime, so we could get a different twist on the same concept.

Actually no, it's ** spoiler omitted **

Heh, thanks :) I haven't even heard of the

until you mentioned them. I looked them up on PathfinderWiki, and they seem pretty cool.
Liberty's Edge

If magic was more common, it'd be used in place of technology, kind of like Eberron. Personally, I don't want PF to become Eberron - Eberron's my favorite D&D setting, and I wouldn't want PF to step on its toes.

The Shackles, probably.

Pff, I completely forgot about the Shackles! I love that place, mainly because I love pirates. Heck, my Fighter's backstory is that he's the son of a pirate.

Liberty's Edge

Aboleths are my favorite classic monster, but out of the other PF monsters, I'm fond of obscure mythological creatures like the nuckelavee or the wendigo; cryptids like the mothman or chupacabra; oni, because I love yokai and they remind me of Aku and his GRRRREAT FLAAAAAAAMING EYYYYEBROWS; and, of course, goblins. Everyone loves those little weirdos.

Liberty's Edge

I'm not really fond of casters, so that kind of rules out wizards, clerics and such. I do like half-casters, though, since they hit a good balance between martials (my preferred classes) and casters. I'm really excited about brawlers. It's about time we got a GOOD unarmed class!

Also, bards. I never liked bards. I don't know why, I just don't.

10th quote of this or so...

I have no strong feelings one way or the other. (There, NOW I said a different quote :P)

Back on topic, I think a true neutral paladin could exist - someone completely devoted to maintaining the balance between good and evil, and lawful and chaos.

Not in PFS, they don't.

No, what I was saying is that I was surprised that Nikolaus had to ask. I've never heard of or encountered anyone who uses age penalties, even in home games.

Still, how would that make a difference to either of us?

If some guy wants to make a conga-line of alts and run through a chain of 20 confirmations in the next four weeks to get a pile of Aasi and Tief banked up I can't see how it matters to anyone else how he spends his time.

If he falls behind then that has no bearing on you or I, nor anyone else, I would argue that the guy is possibly missing other experiences, or that it's a headache, but hey if he can find a likeminded GM and a minimum table of likeminded players then they can go their hardest IMO. Wont make a jot of difference to myself or anyone not part of their day to day group as far as I can see.

I'm not keen on running a conga line, but I can see that others would - this is a hobby/recreational activity, and like any other hobby there are always going to be a few who want to do something funky - but hey it's their leisure time, can't see why they'd get hated at for doing it (or even told it was in bad taste).

I don't hate them for doing that - it's their decision. It's just that it's a bit of a headache for themselves, the GMs and other players. If the GM allows it, then fine, but it just seems ridiculous and inconvenient - that's why Compton doesn't like the idea of it.

Mine is Andoran. It's not just because I'm American, it's just cool that a fantasy setting has a region based on Revolutionary War-era America. You really don't see that in... Well, pretty much any other RPG. Plus, I can see a lot of players making an Andoren shield champion Brawler, and I'll be one of them :P

Liberty's Edge

Pathfinder Society rules are not subject to democratic votes. As a living campaign, the decision to change the rules lies solely with the campaign coordinators. As part of a social community they listen to player feedback, but are under no compulsion to comply with it. This may cause a loss of customers, but they have taken that into consideration before announcing this change.

Bingo. You can be upset with Paizo over their choices, but it's still their rules. If you don't like the rules, try finding a non-PFS game - if you're lucky, your FLGS might have a "free-play" day when you're allowed to play anything.

Liberty's Edge

Since I'm more about the roleplaying than the battling (And I'm not gonna be a DM anytime soon), I think it's cool if the GM lets other players say funny stuff as long as it's in-character, it doesn't disrupt the game (like intentionally doing something stupid just to get the party into trouble) and/or offends the other players. I enjoy the game a lot more when players are having fun more than being with "serious" role-players :P

I was gonna write a big post on why you and Compton are right, but I'm just going to say that "banking" A/Ts is inefficient and makes playing harder for GMs and players. So, yeah, Compton's right, and I'm trying to explain WHY he (and you) are right.

Baxcel wrote:
You skipped the main part of my question... Who makes the rules in society of its not piazo?

Because you effectively have different GMs for each.

Jason and Stephen and the other developers make the rules for Pathfinder. They set the rules for the whole game.

John and Mike and other campaign staff make the adjustments for the organized campaign. That involves banning certain options, adding houserules to ensure a similar feel from game to game, and making sure PCs come from a similar starting point.

Why would you say your home GM running his campaign is different from Paizo and that Mike and John running the organized campaign is not? Simply because they are employed to oversee the campaign?

No my point is if piazo is not the ones making the rules for its society gameplay why should I have to follow this new rule? If the company that owns it all dosnt make the decision then the rules are not true to the game...

That's because Paizo IS making the rules. You don't have to agree with their choices (I don't), but it's still up to Paizo.

There are plenty of good races out there. Each one can be maximized in their own way with all the racial options, feats, etc... out there. Hey, at least we're not stuck with only the core races!

That would be great for me, except I'm not interested in the new PFS-legal races, and the only "big seven" races I like are humans, dwarves, elves and half-orcs.

Liberty's Edge

I'm not too fond of any of the new races, to be honest. I'm not big on nahaji, wayangs, or kitsune and I'm fond of Planetouched races. Fortunately, I'm bringing an aasimar character to PFS tomorrow, so she'll probably be grandfathered in. I've been wanting to play a kind of "eccentric" character for a while, someone who doesn't quite get normal culture. Think of Starfire from the cartoon version of Teen Titans, for example :P

In the meantime, I'm still waiting for catfolk to be legal, 'cuz I have a great idea for a catfolk rogue :P

Liberty's Edge

I can't think of anything to say besides "these are awesome". Seriously, there's just nothing else I could think of :)

Liberty's Edge

Dragon78 wrote:
Are Catfolk legal in PFS?

I think they are, considering they're a "featured race" in Advanced Races, just like Tiefs, Aasimars and Drow are.

EDIT: Apparently there's a single boon that cost 300 bucks, and only one player won it. Dangit.

Liberty's Edge

One of my favorite things about PF is how we have regions based on Medieaval Arabic (Qadira), Conan-esque barbarian wastelands WITH ROBOTS (Numeria), gothic horror (Ustalav), Russian folk tales (Irrisen), a "nation" of pirates (The Shackles), and my personal favorite, Colonial America, (Andoran). Taldor is the only stereotypical medieval setting, as far as I know (still new to this setting)

Liberty's Edge

In no real order, my four favorite races are humans, aasimar, dwarves and catfolk. Elves and Tieflings are a bit overrated (:P), half-orcs, halflings and gnomes don't really do anything for me, and I prefer drow to be evil, fleshwarping psychopaths :P

I also like androids, but they're not legal in PFS :(

So it'd be the "Herly Cherchee eef der Sveedirsh Cherfee?"

Liberty's Edge

I like Casters and Martials, but I'm a fair bit more fond of Martials. Like Lemmy said, Paizo seems to be a bit more fond of Casters than they are Martials. It's kind of like Casters are the Wesley Crushers of Pathfinder, and this is coming from a guy who's just started to play an Aasimar Cleric.

If you're talking about powergamers/"munchkins", I totally agree with you. Those guys ruin the whole game when they play a caster, take all the stuff needed to make it OP, and then pretty much make all the other players useless :/
