Dang software! The discussion tab never showed any traffic! I missed the whole thing and feel bad for not saying anything. Maybe I rolled a few consecutive 1's for perception? :( Wow, that really is sad! He was not my first PbP GM, but one of the first. And yes, he was definitely my favorite. He was so tolerant of our quirks/absences. And he was very patient as I slowly learned the mechanics of a magus. He planned to take a single group of characters through all of season 4. Even though it was just PbP, this thread gave me a sense of home and family, like a regular face-to-face gaming group. I'm going to miss him. Thanks for finishing the game and generating chronicles. Sorry I was so slow to respond. #53482-4

"Lookout!" never even made it to Mel's lips before the giant brought that horrible hammer down on Heccan's head. Amazed that the sorcerer is still alive, Mel knows he cannot do anything about that giant. He is more worried about the girl. She is probably more dangerous. But while the thoughts of casting vanish and rushing up behind the female caster are still forming in his mind, the sudden crowd of figures surrounding the newcomers changes his mind for him. They've got you covered, Hec!. Turning his head, the magus smiles to see Valik dancing alone with three giants. Now that's worth bragging about! he thinks. "Hang in there, Valik!" Drawing the next arrow to his cheek, he can almost feel its eagerness to taste giant blood. botting: Ideally, Mel will just sit back and fire arrows, wishing Halkale was here. If a giant closes in on him, he'll vanish and move away. If the opportunity presents itself, he might use bladed dash to pounce on the sorceress and wack her with the rapier. Mirror image after that.

GM Harker, I switched out shatter for blur. But then I started reading about how blur and mirror image interact. There does not seem to be a consensus. I'm happy with whichever ruling you go with. OR, if you would prefer to avoid the issue, I can just cast Blur on someone else (other than Heccan who always goes invis :) ) Different question. For the part about magus's using arcane charges to enhance their weapons, one of the things I can do now is add other effects. The one I want to understand is Also, because a bow requires two hands, I cannot instead do spell combat, to use the wand of true strike. (ie only one arrow per round but with a +20 to hit) Right? But can I do it for my very first attack? e.g Use the wand, drop it, fire one arrow. I'm guessing that is not legal either but figured I'd ask :) Also, should I update my buffed stats now, or wait to see if healing the dude changes anything? STATUS: HitPoints: 54/54

It all sounds good to me. Mel overhears Heccan and Vanzetti talking about the Heal scroll and interjects conspiratorially, "Have we told her about the scroll yet? Maybe we could leave that out until later." He also offers up his CLW wand to heal the agent as well. "Think about it this way. We can take care of his immediate needs and get him stable with regular healing. If we use the Heal scroll on him, we may all die and then he would be stuck up here, perfectly healthy, as harpy food." He adds later, "If we don't need the scroll, we cast it on him. If we need it to survive, then I'll pay for a Heal to be cast on him when we get home.... passing on the generosity that was bestowed on me when I was in need."

I was going to suggest that the parrot could send 'happy-sad-happy' if they were coming from the top of the stairs, 'happy-angry-happy' if they were coming from the bottom of the stairs, and 'happy-scared-happy' if something slipped past and is about to jump us. But then I realized that Mel is not a programmer. So I guess just letting us know that something is happening so we can jump up and buff is good. :) Do we want to be waiting out in the open, at the top of the stairs? Or should we be hiding in one of the rooms and just come out to the stairs when we get the signal? We should also get any dead giant and harpy bodies out of sight. Mel looks at the giants.... and then starts dragging a harpy body away. :)

Oh yeah, wouldn't my parrot familiar be a good lookout? It has Empathic Link and Speak with Master. So I can clearly explain what it has to look out for and which emotions to send me when he sees them coming. Combine that with a 1 mile range and I think we have a good scout/lookout.... as long as she does not get eaten by a bigger bird. Spoiler:
Empathic Link (Su): The master has an empathic link with his familiar to a 1 mile distance. The master can communicate empathically with the familiar, but cannot see through its eyes. Because of the link’s limited nature, only general emotions can be shared. The master has the same connection to an item or place that his familiar does. Speak with Master (Ex): If the master is 5th level or higher, a familiar and the master can communicate verbally as if they were using a common language. Other creatures do not understand the communication without magical help.
@GM Harker, will it work that way? Can we use Lady Beltona as a lookout? She could sit atop one of those giant statues and let us know when something is coming. At least for Mel's portion of the watch.

"Vailis, that sounds good to me, but do we know they will be arriving from the bottom of the stairs vs the top? Maybe we should search for secret passages that they might be using. I wonder if it is harder to hide a giant-sized door than a human-sized one." "We definitely want lookouts, preferably hidden, so we can be ready to ambush them. I can take the first watch." If this goes until tomorrow, Mel might want to change spells a bit. "If the giants are paranoid, they may send harpy scouts ahead, so we want to make sure our guards cannot be spotted from above, too." "Do we want to just battle on the stairs or try to draw them into a narrow passage?" After that, the excitable youngster stops talking and waits for his mentors to speak wisdom.

If there is a chance to buf before the fight, then Mel will cast Mirror Image, hit himself with his wand of shield, drink a potion of remove fear, and read a scroll of Cat's Grace and See Invisible. If no one else does it, he will also read the scrolls of mass bear's endurance and enlarge person on the party. Once all the casting is done, he'll stuff his ears with wax! I was tempted to have him levitate to a high ledge to shoot from, but then I'd be out of range of any healing and probably get eaten by harpies Mel's plan is clearly to stay in the back and fire those bane arrows for as long as he can. But he is open to suggestions. He'd also like to give the unseen servant shtick another try. Give it a cloak and dagger and order it to stay within 10 feet of me, between me and the closest enemy. Here is the part of the spellcraft post that the browser on my phone ate. Yes, I select-all + copy before hitting SubmitPost every time.... except that time :( After everyone else has had a go at the magical items, Mel takes a crack at the arrows with blue feathers which seem to have evaded the efforts of his more talented peers. Despite his best efforts, he cannot pierce the veil of mystery which surrounds them. Frustrated, he summons his porter and retrieves a scroll from the many he carries. As he reads it, his hair stands on end and you'd swear his eyes had taken on a faint blue glow. Aided by the magics on the scroll, the magus once again tries to fathom the mysteries of the blue-fletched arrows. After studying them for a while, he suddenly curses, throws them to the ground and spits on them. "Arrrrrgggg, Elf bane! Why did I waste magic on....those?!" He spits on them again. When talking to the giant's x-meal in an attempt to aid the intimidation, stands over him and complains. "I shatter the cook pot and save this man's life and now he refuses to talk? Some people might suggest that I shatter every bone in his body, one by one, bend and twist his limbs into odd shapes and then let them heal like that."
