I wasn't the one who altered the conversation. I just wanted to know about the math. You imply that I have LOTS of houserules that alter things. Most GM's do, in fact. Mine are almost entirely irrelevant, with only a few exceptions, to the thread. If you have a problem with this, I suggest you examine your motivations for posting the above note. When I post anything online, I try to divest myself of assumptions about other people's motivations for wording things. Since I don't have access to vocal tones, facial expressions, body language, I can't put any context to a given statement. To be frank, it would be FANTASTIC if the rest of humanity had that level of awareness, it would save a lot of drama and bad feelings.

Really, I don't care. Clerics do more than simply heal. Lesser restoration, various buff spells, hurting or controlling undead, etc. And I don't think of it as a flaw. Just like it's not a flaw that we need a warrior, an arcane caster of some sort, a skill monkey etc. I consider it a bonus, since this means the PC's work together by design. No one class is perfect, they all need each other. That results in longer running campaigns btw, since when someone is absent, you're hurting. That means closer friendships.

I don't count mindless automatons as evil or their creation as evil. If you don't have an Int score, you can't be evil since there is no mind to dream up sadism. If a being is nothing more than a robot, then I don't count it as evil. Creation of them might be unlawful, depending on where you live. The dead don't need their former bodies, and there's no soul involved. Diego, I am the GM. What I say goes in my campaigns.

I disagree. That's not likely to be something that spellpouches would contain. You are making assumptions that aren't in evidence. Do you actually believe some devil somewhere is sitting still for casters to milk them dry of its blood?
I think the problem is that their idiotic system is trying to take multiple doses of money out of my checking account, and not either revising the amount or just adding on the extra book I slipped in. So far they have taken 162 out of my account, and the extra book is a pittance compared to it. I just wanted to save on shipping.

This is a home game, not PFS. Unfortunately, the party Cleric wants to be a necromancer, and control a small gang of undead as cannon fodder. To that end, he has negative energy channeling. When we hit 3rd level, maybe I can sweet talk the player into taking Versatile Channeling, but that feat deducts 2 levels from his channeling of positive energy. Thus, the need for a really good source of noncombat healing.
Java Man wrote: The amped stick gets cheaper than the standard after you have made 30. The infernal will always lose to the standard by these numbers, and has other possible issues. You are saying that after the PC's buy CLW wands at CL3, and have spent the one time reusable 5000gp diamond that ups the CL to 5, it is therefore more efficient after THIRTY WHOLE WANDS? That doesn't make sense. You are saying that the Wand of Infernal Healing is inefficient compared to a standard CLW wand? What about versus the improved CLW wand with the reusable diamond?
Okay, a normal wand of CLW does 1d8+1 of cure per charge, at 750 a pop. If you up the caster level to 3rd, you do 1d8+3hp of cure per charge, but it costs more. The 5000gp diamond that you can reuse ups the caster level by 2 for conjuration healing spells, I got it out of an old 3.5 book Magic of Faerun. Get it?

Nope. You forget that you have to use either a drop of infernal blood, or unholy water. Since that demonic/devlish blood is gonna be REALLY hard to come by, the unholy water costs 25gp a pop. That means the wand costs 750+1250gp, aka 2000gp for 50 copies in a fully charged wand. Oh, and I am using exact average hp restoration rolls to estimate value.
I am trying to figure out if a given option is efficient or not. A happy stick costs 750gp, and restores 5.5hp per charge. An amped up happy stick costs 6125 for the first one, and then 1125 for each one thereafter since we can reuse a 5000gp diamond to up the caster level by 2, resulting in 1d8+5hp restored (9.5hp per charge). If neither version of a wand of CLW works, we could try a wand of Infernal Healing, but that costs 2000gp each, for 10hp and 40gp a charge (50 charges). Which option is more efficient?

Well, the ideal armor material would be either noqual (mithral with a resistance bonus to saves vs magic) or glassteel (mithral with adamantine), but the latter isn't exactly PFS. I would suggest at the very least a mithral breastplate since it reduces your armor check to -1, allows your Dexterity to go up to 20 as you need all the AC you can get your grubby mitts on as a Barb, you can sleep in it, the weight is halved, and you get all of your increased combat speed as a Barb. Try Boots of Striding and Springing out of the core rulebook. That ought to help a lot (bonus to your speed, bonus to climbing and acrobatics/jumping). Amulet of Natural Armor since your AC blows (Barbs are down 5 points of AC on average compared to a Fighter or Paladin, as you get no Heavy Armor Prof for full plate and lose 2 points when raging, and even worse you aren't using a shield). And no adventurer should be without a Handy Haversack! Being able to get what you want in the middle of a round is VERY useful, and it's cheap. A Scabbard of Keen Edges is really nice. Maybe a Ring of Protection to up your AC still further, since you went two handed with your weapon. You might want to consider a Impact enchantment (+2), Holy enchantment +2 since most monsters are evil aligned, Impervious (3000gp), Guardian +1. If you decide to go the Intimidation route, Cruel +1, Ominous +1 are great for your weapon. You can grab Dazzling Display and Intimidating Prowess feats to up your scare factor. I personally prefer a greataxe to a greatsword, as it's far more dramatic when it critical hits. Don't bother with the headband of wisdom. Iron Will feat, Indomitable Faith trait, and being in a rage should help, since you've got a high Con to keep you in rage rounds. Me personally I allow Ioun stones to stack with other attribute boosting items in my game, but others don't. Check out the Raging Vitality feat, and combine that with Regenerative Stance rage power.
The problem I am having is that they never ever get to me. It's been quite a while now, and I need to know how much the total bill will be so I can pay other bills. I would rather they shipped everything at once with as little shipping charges as possible, but I have no idea if this is going to happen.

Sigh. My order explicitly states no 2e items are desired. Second, you guys have been avoiding filling my order for 3 weeks now. Third, I wanted to include the 4 items that are currently in my cart to ship along with the items I currently have in my order.
Barbarians don't come with Diplomacy or Bluff. On top of that, Charisma is not a priority for the class, indeed, it's usually a dump stat. The idea that an aasimar way back when bred with an elf is injecting MORE special races into the mix, did you notice? It would therefore make more sense just to blow a feat or two on mimicking a partially angelic being. This might surprise you, but when sneaking about in the dark, it's pretty easy to be spotted when you are holding a torch, a cantrip, or any source of light. Ever spotted a cigarette from miles away in the dark? Too late. You already have lots of exotic races in your campaign. That's funny, it's not how the bestiary description works out for zombies. Or just make a skeleton. They don't do much when not directly being controlled. They just follow their previous orders. The default setting doesn't make sense, and you know it. Again I reiterate, you need some sort of intelligence or intent to be evil. I do have a degree in psychology, and most of humanity is basically neutral in that department.
Barbarian as a party face?! Oh hell no. Get serious. As for half elves being an idea for a descendant of aasimar, heck no. You can sort of mimic the idea of a descendant using a standard human and then try ancestry feats to reflect the idea. As for the necromancer, the bonus feat just isn't a good enough compensation for all the problems standard humans present. Lots of times for example, the vision lack really screws you over. Also, not having bonuses to both Charisma and Intelligence hurts when mucking about with undead control. Also, with a human you most likely will have a crappy Dexterity (always a great thing to have a high dex when playing a wizard). Rooting about in graves kinda necessitates good night vision. Really, I don't find the extra human feat all that great in the long run. In the short run it's wonderful, but you give up too much. The only thing I would love a human for is getting LOTS of skill points (+2 Int and the human bonus skill point per level). As for the other races I suggested, Sylphs etc can easily fit in for looking human, particularly if they bother with Disguise. Personally, I have been watching my players try to take out traps and things, and have noticed something. They don't always recall to say "I check for traps" and so get nailed. This is why I keep recommending the rogue talent Trap Spotter. That way whenever they get within 10ft of a trap, they ALWAYS get a Perception roll (but I am the one who makes it so as not to give it away). As for undead and being evil, I note that you have to INTEND to do harm to be evil. Lots of neutral creatures like fire elementals cause immense destruction and get away with it, but they burn things because it's their nature. Evil does it just to be sadistic. Unintelligent undead don't get anything out of hurting others, and if they don't do anything unless commanded, it's a moot point as to alignment since they are nothing more than golems. Overall, Scott here has a big point. Too much melee, and almost no artillery.

Aasimar barbarian isn't simply inappropriate given the class, but also in attributes. Yeah, there's one variant that grants a bonus to Strength, but none that grants anything to Dexterity, Constitution, or even Wisdom as well. Normally, I point out Orcs (but I like to grant Endurance feat and negate the Wisdom penalty to balance the race out), Oreads, Hobgoblin, Trox, Ogres, Lizardfolk, Gnoll, Dhampir (nosferatu, but only for having a lot of negative energy present and the Strength and skills bonuses), Tiefling (demodand spawn. Half elves are pretty much useless in game, they take the one advantage or two humans have and ruin it. Again, I suggest a standard aasimar or changeling for Clerics. Humans are okay for Wizards, but to be frank they have problems with vision and aren't particularly great for the class. I'd go for a Elf, or a Peri Blooded aasimar as it grants bonuses to both Intelligence and Charisma (great for undead). Maybe a Sylph, as Dex and Int are a great combination for Wizards in general (in that case, there's lots of races that work with that combo). Also, since skeletons and zombies are basically automatons/cheap golems, can't reproduce, and are unintelligent, I wouldn't regard their creation to be Evil. More unlawful than anything, since you're just using the bodies and the souls aren't even involved.
Yes, I will need more of a delay. I wish I didn't! I will restart my subscription in early July when my income restarts. As for undead, I honestly don't know where I would go in the forums to ask this question. Right now, I have a player with a dhampir sorcerer (undead bloodline), and a aasimar cleric of Pharasma (Death, Healing domains) in the party, both of which are interested in creating and controlling undead in my Mummy's Mask campaign. We also have a Barbarian and a dhampir Rogue (burglar) in the party, but they aren't into controlling undead. I was hoping to help them a mite. I am a little unusual as GM in that I don't consider zombies and skeletons to be evil or their creation evil. Unlawful maybe, but not evil because they are mindless automatons.
I also have Heroes of the High Court in my cart. Oddly, it says that I ordered all of these back on April 4th. WTF! I certainly don't have any of them, and I don't have any of the pdfs so.... Yes, I do want them. I also sent a letter to customer service. Do you guys have any books that have anything for characters that CREATE undead and control them?
Hey, I have the first two Tyrant's Grasp books, and I would like to restart my subscription and get the books I am missing as well from the TG series (and of course the map folio). I need to know how much you are going to bill me for the catch up etc. You can send it all at once with the current subscription TG book.
Adjoint wrote: I don't see a way to do it on 1st level using standard character creation rules. But if the GM is working with you, he may allow to aply the giant template to your character. There are many templated monsters in the published books, why not make a templated humanoid? I would give a level penalty to this PC. That means a 1st level PC would be considered 2nd level for purposes of xp and leveling up. If you do this, you should take Toughness and whatever else you can find that increases hit points.

That said, just because a character is LG doesn't mean they are jerks. I usually play paladins as being much like Superman. You notice that nobody inside the DC universe really hates him, and nobody in the real world hates him. He always tries to be considerate, helpful, honest etc. Charismatic, likeable. That's the way I think paladins should be.
