Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Sorry, I'm here! It's been a bit of a busy week. :)

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Cool! I'm turning 31 next week (the 9th), live outside of Washington, DC (though I was in Houston up until two years ago for grad school) and have been playing in a bunch of PbPs in the last few years. I'm also a freelance writer and have even had credits in a few Paizo-published books.

Character-wise, I expect to use Pehmah's flowing monk and Iron Mountain abilities in concert to stand in one place during battle and try to redirect as many attacks as possible to opponents. The more she's surrounded, the more bonuses she'll have to her AC, so she'll wade right into battle, use Acrobatics to avoid AOOs from movement, and then stand still and pummel the baddies into submission.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Pehmah attacks the green goblin with another flurry.
unarmed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
unarmed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

I was waiting until after you posted the two goblins' actions, but incase I get busy over the weekend, Pehmah's turn will be:

Pehmah charges the (green) goblin and punches at him with her woody fist.
unarmed: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

and misses horribly.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

I'll be having a busy Valentine's weekend, so feel free to bot me as necessary.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Pehmah moves up to (red) goblin, her hands turn all woody again, and she punches at him.

unarmed: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Pehmah preps to punch the crap out of some more goblins.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Percep: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 looking for more goblins.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Pehmah moves around the wagon and tries to punch the goblin.
punch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Pehmah continues using her wooden fists, and flurries on the goblin next to her.

flurry attack 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

flurry attack 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

I will also warn everyone that I'm in the Washington, DC area and we are getting pounded by snow in the next few days, so it is possible (hopefully not!) that we might lose power. If that's the case, I probably won't be checking in until Monday or so.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Percep: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Pehmah saw the goblins, and moves up to the nearest one, hoping to take it out. As she moves, her fists seem to become covered in some sort of bark, making them harder than the goblin might expect. Using 1 round of my wooden fists ability, free action.

Unarmed: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6

Unfortunately she is not yet used to wielding her woody fists, and swings wide.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"Ah, that Ameiko makes the best food in the land. Reminds me of the food I grew up on. Spicy and full of flavor, unlike the bland gruel those Taldanes like to call a meal."

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"As long as the next round is the best they have, not that swill you were drinking, I accept."

Pehmah moves the chair into a relatively clear area nearby, then stands still and centers herself for a moment.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
She then flips her body over and above the back of the chair, slowly raises her body higher using the strength of her arms, then finally balances on a single hand for over thirty seconds.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"My entertainments generally focus on honing my skills. I could show you some feats of acrobatics, if you'd like. Or I could punch something. I spend most of my time righting wrongs."

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"Oh, nothing like that is necessary, Karmid. No harm done. Your antics are entertaining, if mundane."

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

No problem, and thanks for the update.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"Less than a parlor trick, but I expected nothing more from you, my friend." Pehmah says, attempting a friendly jab but likely sounding more hurtful than she meant to.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"I am no gambler, but have your fun, my friend."

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

18th sounds good to me, Amsheagar!

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"There is no harm in a stiff drink, until you've imbibed enough to make you uncomfortable to be near, my friend. Take care you do not do so, or I may need to show your drunken self some manners." Despite her serious-sounding words, Pehmah smiles at Karmid, trying to be less abrasive to her new allies.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Hearing Karmid mention the story of the Fisherman, Mermaid, and lobster...

"I actually believe I've heard that one, my loud friend. The fisherman caught the mermaid on his hook, and she was beautiful, but she felt no love for him, and he held her against her will, doing horrible things to her. She finally escaped from him and the idiot went after her, foolishly swimming down into the deep, and drowned. The crab... whose name translated to "justice" if I remember correctly... ate the man's corpse, relishing its taste. An appropriate end for such a man as he."

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

"I am from the far East... was thrown off a ship many years ago as a stowaway, and Gozreh showed me the way to shore. I've been his and her servant ever since."

Pehmah will be very keen to play up the dual-gendered nature of Gozreh's two forms, so I'll always strive to mention both the male and female aspects any time she discusses her deity.

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

A young woman wearing form-fitting robes, her hair braided with pieces of exotic bark and twigs behind her head, sits at a table sipping what looks to be blood from afar, but when you near gives off the aromatic notes of apple, pear, and clove, with the viscosity of a thick oil.

"I am Pehmah. Well met, my friends. It is good to see that we've been selected by our respective gods for a mission. I hope that we will become fast friends. I have lived in Sandpoint for only a few years, but I've made it my life's work to understand the nuances of Gozreh's wishes, as well as remove any affronts to nature's rightful progression that I've found."

Human Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) 1 | AC 16, T 16, FF 14 | hp 9/9 | Redirection 1/1 | Wooden fists 3/7 rounds | Perception +8

Yay! Hi everyone!

Man, I can't believe I didn't get into the second table either! :(

Here's hoping for a third!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Congrats to those chosen! I hope I get grabbed up for another table!

Bah... just realized I messed up a dice roll in my in-character message above. Here it is: unarmed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

In-character:

Pehmah stared from her vantage-point on the roof at the trader across the courtyard for several minutes, watching his every move. There was something off about the way he spoke to the customers, and his movements were jerky. She had suspected for a few days that a trader must be selling cheap, mislabeled herbs to the unsuspecting townspeople, ever since she sat down with Father Brandt for a cup of chamomile tea and tasted a hint of poisonous holly. She had promptly told him to dispose of the tainted tea, and asked him where it had come from... apparently one of the younger clergy had gotten it for him as a meager gift, to celebrate his name-day. The young man had been sent on an errand to Magnimar, and so was not available for questioning.
Pehmah watched for a few moments longer, then slid down the opposite side of the roof, somersaulting to the ground with ease. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
She pulled the hood of her dark green robe up over her hair, to hide her gender... she found that merchants from larger cities could be more easily intimidated when the gender of their questioner was unknown. Her features could easily be mistaken for those of a man if her long hair was hidden, a gift of the dual-natured god/goddess which she served. Disguise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
As she approached the dealer, she steeled herself to be ready to incapacitate him if necessary. A good herbalist could heal many ailments, but a false one could ruin lives, and the people of Sandpoint were a gullible lot... they could be sold anything by someone with the right gift for words.
"Hello, hello!" the merchant said as she approached. "Would you like to try some cream for your calloused hands, my good man? It is made from the finest fruits and nuts in the area. Excellent for farmers, fishers, shoemakers, or anyone! Only five silver for a tub!"
"No," Pehmah said, "thank you, but I am interested in your tea. I've heard you are well-known for it."
"Oh yes, by all means, feel free to taste some! I guarantee you've never had tea like this before!"
Pehmah opened a canister of tea and held it up to her nose... Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 and immediately recognized the smell of Pesh, a drug which is not found in the area, but she had sampled once from a drug merchant passing through the area.
She placed that canister back down and sniffed another. Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 This time, she smelled the distinct odor of at least three drugs: pesh, flayleaf, and shiver. She had seen and smelled enough. She pulled back her hood, revealing her face and the birthmark on her left clavicle, a leaf with a drop of water dripping from it, as clear as if it had been inked on her by the finest tattoo artist.
"You will cease selling your wares immediately and come with me. Your wares will be confiscated by the town guard, and you will be tried in our courts for selling drug-laced teas to the townspeople... I assume in the hopes of getting them addicted and then selling the real drugs to them at inflated rates."
As she said this to the man, she stepped forward, putting her leg behind his, then grabbing his shoulder and using her own weight and his as well to pull him over her leg to the ground. Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10. Though her technique was not as clean as she would have liked, the man fell, sputtering some garbage about having been sold these teas by a wholesaler in Katapesh. "No matter where you got these drug-laced teas, you've been selling them, and given your state as an addict yourself, I know very well that you could identify them as well as I. You are under arrest."
The marchant feebly tried to swing a fist at her [dice=unarmed]1d20+1], but Pehma easily dodged his shaky swing. She tied him up, calling for the guards to come take the man away, as well as his tainted wares.
To the other shoppers in the market, Pehmah announced "This man has been tainting his herbs and tea with drugs in the hopes of addicting you. If any of you have bought herbs or tea from this man, please come to the temple, where the clergy of Gozreh will replace it with untainted product at 1/10th the normal cost. That is all."
Once the ill-fated merchant was taken into custody, Pehmah took a few minutes to search his wares thoroughly. Most of the herbs and teas were just as she expected... tainted with all manner of highly-addictive substances. But she did find one small box which held an unaltered, beautiful find... a full pound of the finest Khelish tobacco she had ever seen. Given his criminal nature, I see no need to return this to him... she thought, as she pocketed the tobacco. This, I will reserve for special occasions indeed.

Marked off 2gp for the cost of the tobacco, which is 4x the normal cost of "standard" tobacco.

Backgound:

Pehmah was born in a small farming village in the Minkai region of Tian Jia, and the first several years of her life were relatively uneventful. Her family raised sheep, and they lived a simple yet satisfying life, like many of their neighbors. Her birth was uneventful, and it was noted that she carried a mark on her neck in the vague shape of a leaf.
That all changed when Pehmah was nine years old... a warlord gained power in a nearby small city, and he decided that the villages nearby must provide food for the city at no cost. At first, the farmers acquiesced... no point in fighting against a force you cannot defeat. But as the farmers grew more and more poor from using all their resources on crops and livestock that they could not sell, they grew more desperate. Pehmah's village was one of the first to create a small militia, and drive the "tax-collector" caravan out when they arrived to take supplies from the townspeople. Retribution was swift and deadly... the warlord sent a force in the middle of the night to sack the town, kill the men and take the women, children, and livestock. Pehmah's father sent her off into the woods at the beginning of the fighting, handing her a small knife with which to defend herself. "This is all our family has to show for our hard work. Do not let the greed of one destroy the lives of many. Go, and find a better life for yourself."
Pehmah ran into the woods, and found herself alternately foraging for food and running from relentless pursuers for weeks. During this time, she began to feel that she was being guided through the forest by some unseen force. Finally, she arrived at a small fishing village, and was able to stow away upon a trader's vessel boung for a distant land.
Pehmah was not discovered for weeks, able to hide in the bowels of the ship and steal small bits of food to keep fed. Unfortunately, she could only hide for so long, and eventually was caught by one of the deckhands. The captain, a harsh man from the Ulfen wastes, had poor Pehmah thrown overboard for her thievery.
As she was sinking into the open ocean, Pehmah had a vision of a drop of water, falling from leaf to leaf down an immense tree. When the droplet landed on one of the tree's roots, she had an intense feeling of welcoming, and instinctively knew which way the shore was. She begin swimming, and somehow was able to swim for almost an entire day, finally seeing land at daybreak of the following morning. She washed up, dehydrated and starving, on the beach near Sandpoint, and was found by a fisherman.
Today, Pehmah has focused her life on the study of the deity whom she believes saved her, Gozreh, father of the storm and mother of the wind. Now in her early twenties, she has become one of the foremost experts on the teachings of the Green Faith and Gozreh, and the mysterious mark on her neck (which has slowly become more intricate and recognizable as a leaf as she has aged) has given her purpose in life: to teach others of the wonders of the earth, wind, sky, and waves.

I'll work on her in-character post over the next day or so.

I have all the stats done for my submission, now to write up her backstory!
