Would it be possible for there to be a boon added to do retraining but no gear changes? The current retrain boons seem excessive, if not punitive, to a character who does not want to change gear. Alternatively, could the existing rebuild boons have language added that the wealth is not changed if no gear is being changed? I think that having easier access to these things would be beneficial both to players wanting to have old characters take advantage of new boosts, as well as old and new PC's who may just want to make non-gear changes that would take a long time to complete via retraining.

Yes, please!

My Gnome Champion already suffered in the damage-dealing department, so having his weapon nerfed down a die size really hurts.

Being able to just Retrain his Ability Boosts would help a lot.

Vigilant Seal

When I built my 08 Cha Champion, I figured I was building against type, but he's now Level 10 and I've encountered plenty of other similar Champions since.

(Gnome w/ Flickmace, so I needed the Str bump)

Difference is mine has an 18 Wis, and the Cleric Archetype, and I haven't encountered anyone else like that yet. Expert Divine proficiency 3 levels early has been nice.

Vigilant Seal

It's certainly something that could be streamlined for 3E.

Probably too much editing required for Errata.

Not sure domain initiate gives you a second focus point ( like hymn of healing and similar spells).

It does for Champions.

Domain Initiate grants you a focus pool of 1 Focus Point, and, "If you have multiple abilities that give you a focus pool, each one adds 1 Focus Point to your pool".

You're not quoting the whole section there:

Quote:

Focus Points from Multiple Sources

It’s possible, especially through archetypes, to gain focus spells and Focus Points from more than one source. If this happens, you have just one focus pool, adding all the Focus Points together to determine the total size of your pool. (Remember that the maximum number of Focus Points a pool can have is 3.) If you have multiple abilities that give you a focus pool, each one adds 1 Focus Point to your pool. For instance, if you were a cleric with the Domain Initiate feat, you would have a pool with 1 Focus Point. Let’s say you then took the champion multiclass archetype and the Healing Touch feat. Normally, this feat would give you a focus pool. Since you already have one, it instead increases your existing pool’s capacity by 1.
What is meant by "more than one source" is not very clearly defined, but it's "especially through archetypes" and the example given is done through multiclassing.

And the example given includes the very feat I mentioned ^_^

Quote:
If taking any feat with another focus spell always gave you an extra focus point, the "especially through archetypes" sentence doesn't make any sense.

The Focus Spell is irrelevant. Domain Initiate actually gives you a Focus Pool.

Quote:
Also, some feats specify they give you an extra focus point, others don't; if a new feat always gave you a new focus point that wouldn't make sense either.

Exactly. Again, it works this way for Champions, multiclassing into Cleric, and taking Domain Initiate, because of the rules on Focus Pools I quoted.

I never said anything about a general rule that learning a new Focus Spell gives you more Focus Points.

Vigilant Seal

A familiar can help with that.

(Deep Gnome with a Cave Gecko, in my case)

To help with ranged, I gave my Champion the Cleric Archetype, and took Domain Initiate (Earth). Divine Lance is a decent enough ranged option, but Hurtling Stone has been fun to surprise enemies with. Domain Initiate gives you a second Focus Point, so it's not just a once-per-combat trick, and your Divine spell attack increases to Expert at 9th, so it's a far better option than using any ranged weapon when your Dex is only 10 (not to mention the lack of hands required).

Vigilant Seal

My post was meant for people reading this thread who might not know otherwise. Wasn't addressing you, and obviously it doesn't bother me. But for someone who's looking for a quick guide on building their first character, it's a rules item that's easy to overlook.

Vigilant Seal

I do love my Gnome Champion and his Flickmace!

The original post suggests Full Plate for the Throwing & Longbow Champion, but at 14 Str you're going to be hurting with ACP and –10 Speed (plus the Bulk gets cumbersome quick).

the Roll 20 sheet seems to not like it.

You can set each spell to have different ability modifiers. Since you won't have too many spells programmed for your Archetype, it shouldn't be much work.

My Champion/Cleric has a Charisma of 08 but a Wisdom of 18 so his Divine spell DCs are 5 apart depending on which spell he's using ^_^

"A bear? Well. This was to be unexpected."

The stately, cranky, elderly gnome expends a couple strides reaching the ursine before raising his most sacred pick for a single blow:

Pick: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Crit, Fatal, Piercing: 3d10 + 8 ⇒ (5, 10, 5) + 8 = 28

And if a Retributive Strike presents itself:

Pick: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Or fatal if that crits:
Piercing: 3d10 + 8 ⇒ (3, 7, 2) + 8 = 20

Vigilant Seal

Crowd:

Perception (T): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

"This one cannot see the citizens through the stampede."

Wind:

Athletics (T): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Nature (T): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Society (T): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Athletics (T): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Nature (T): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

"The creatures of the earth know how to handle wind. We avoid it by staying below ground."

Lightning:

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 (+3 if Bulwark applies)

"We are still working on how to avoid lightning."

In the twenty minutes it took Garad to Treat Wounds, Papa Svirf spends his time refocusing and sharing stories of mining the gems of the deep.

Garad heals 12 hit points.

Vigilant Seal

Svirfneblin Paladin (10)

"The dwarf is to be commended for his martial skill. Now, this one thinks the human with the glowing eyes would appreciate coordinating."

Papa Svirf moves so that Garad may flank, and then bashes once, before again raising his shield.

Shield Boss: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Vigilant Seal

Svirfneblin Paladin (10)

The gnome sighs heavily when his most sacred of weapons fails to do its job.

"If these beasties are undead, then surely the light of Sairazul will banish their darkness!"

Divine Lance : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 (targeting Cyan)
Crit, Good: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11

After which he once again raises his trusty shield; will block if hit, or Ranged Reprisal otherwise:

Shield Boss: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Vigilant Seal

As the yellow-stained skeleton bites at Fairmount, Papa Svirf reflexively steps forward and strikes.

Fairmount takes 4 less damage, which I believe leaves them standing.

Pick: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Or fatal if that crits:
Piercing: 3d10 + 8 ⇒ (4, 4, 5) + 8 = 21

He then Strikes once more, raises his shield, and touches Fairmount to heal some of the injuries (lay on hands heals 6 hp)

Pick: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Will shield block if attacked, or Retributive Strike again if available:

Pick: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Or fatal if that crits:
Piercing: 3d10 + 8 ⇒ (10, 4, 4) + 8 = 26

Vigilant Seal

Svirfneblin Paladin (10)

The gnome nods, as though this were not a surprise.

"We are fortunate to have the one who smells of moss and old books to sweep away these beasties made of dust and ash."

Defending for my Exploration Activity.

Treat Wounds, DC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

"This beastie is quite the amalgam of abilities."

The gnome Steps forward to press the assault, and aims to Strike at the giant's central eye when it next bends down in the cramped tunnel.

Pick: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

He then raises his shield, and will once again block if attacked, or strike out if an ally is targeted:

Pick: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Vigilant Seal

Svirfneblin Paladin (10)

"This one is happy where everyone is."

The fantastically bearded gnome swings his sacred mining pick twice at the flanked giant, and then raises his shield.

Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 (vs Flat-Footed)

Pick: 1d20 + 8 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 5 = 11
Piercing: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 (vs Flat-Footed)

Will Shield Block if attacked, otherwise Step Up and Retributive Strike:
