"To put it bluntly sir, I believe we reserve the right to inquire. You seem to be a bit worse for wear and in need of assistance." he snaps back.
Taking a quick breath, he adds "But I'll grant you the kindness. We are certainly not of your town, nor of those that wish you harm. We seek for you and yours to prosper. Your companion...well...he didn't fair well on his return trip to town."
"My companions and I were sent out to seek harbor and potential friendship from you. We seem to have stumbled into a bit of a situation."

Shuddering at Corgrim's response, Menes leaves it alone. After a long moment, he finally grumbles "Don't let me become one of those things."
Searching the room, he smiles as he inspects the chest. However, though treasure is always helpful, he recognizes that is not the mission at hand. "Good catch Markus. If someone wouldn't mind checking out these bracers? They seem to have held up better than the other items."

Pushing ahead, Menes struggles against the deep water. Watching Markus fail to achieve good fortune, he makes a mental note.

After a long moment, Menes shrugs.
"Oh, ok big guy. I suppose I can give you a hand in that department."
Pulling a hooded lantern and some flint from his pack, he carefully lights it. Standing back up to shine light on the area ahead, he smiles. "If push comes to shove, I can kick just as well as I can punch."

"If you can, now may be the time to get back up." he advises. "If not, let us know what you see and we'll aid you as best we're able."

Calmly joining the group after eating alone, Menes eyes the scrolls. 'Interesting choice...perhaps they didn't have anyone to activate them.'
Eyes going wide a moment, he thinks over his group. 'Do we have a priest?'

'Maybe someone has some kind of training...Probably wouldn't work anyway. Those things never went as planned back home. Always gave off a pine scent...sometimes blew up...'
"Hollow, I see? Anyway, good morning Leon." he offers calmly. "Preferably we'll find the man still alive, but I suppose at this point we should assume he's both alive and dead. You got the gist of it though. Shall we head into the mire then?"

"While my companions may prefer to sample the locals, we do have a mission. It seems our mission has a complication we must remedy first."
Moving closer to Markus, he gestures to the open seat between them. "Yes, please join us and tell us all you know. The more information we have, the better chance of success. Nevermind the simpler tastes of our friends. When it comes down to it, they are quite helpful."

Silently watching his companions deal with the antics of the village people, Menes simply shakes his head. 'What have they gotten me into. I expected to have companions with at least some...well...they are pathfinders I suppose.'

With a grunt, Menes heads deeper into the mist for town. "We could have taken care of him but, that's ok. When he sends the others, it'll be good practice for us."

Glancing towards the items with disinterest, Menes shrugs. "If you want them, take them. We won, so they forfeit their claim to the gear."
"So, they are thugs hired by the local establishment? Intriguing. I wonder why they were out here dissuading entry... Too bad they are in no state to answer questions."
Squinting into the mist, past the thugs. "I'm suspecting our goals are further this way. Whenever you have finished picking through their pockets, let us continue."

I have 1 potion of CLW but can't afford a wand until after this scenario when I hopefully have 2 PP to spend on one.

Unable to stop himself, Menes smiles. "That is quite accurate. I do believe the adage refers to removing their weapons...but that would work as well."

A tall lithe man, Menes fails to make much of an impression at first glance. His tattered pack and array of strange devices hanging from his hip seem of little interest. His tanned and weathered hide prove a tendency to spend time outdoors, but nothing truly stands out. He's just...there.
"Hello there Lee-awn, it's a pleasure. I'm called Men-is." he replies to the hulking figure. "I too tend to get up close with those that oppose me. I logical mind and quick jab are more my style. However, I do abide by the old saying 'An unarmed Foe hurts less'."
While they travel, he keeps a watchful eye over the trail and seems friendly enough...though a bit abrupt for some. It's quite clear he has hasn't learned the 'niceties' of 'polite society'.

"A bit damp for my liking." grumbles the monk. "More water here than we get in a year at home."
Shaking his head softly, 'I may have to re-evaluate my agreement with the Decemvirate. Not sure field work was the right move.'
