Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Marcus was counting on Rogar, since he said that before their meeting he was a builder of sorts.

IIRC, you can take 20 in the Perception check making a intensive search for unusual architecture... and even gain a bonus if they are stone-related.

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

I was hoping Rogar would find some secret door or something...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

"I'm afraid my lady, that for the time being we are intruders too."

Then, he said with a light-hearted tone.

"For a moment I thought Vironus will break in through a window, like some kind of overly-noisy burglar."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Making sure he doesn't miss some detail that reveals the presence of an individual in the room

Perception check:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Marcus then gives a sigh of relief.

"Well, it seems that whoever entered this room is no longer here. In any case, it could also mean that the intruder... (take a look at the group) well, the other intruder make use of some kind of secret door or passage.

Rogar, I think you said that you were a builder before. Can you tell us if you see some irregular architecture that could possibly be a hidden escape route?"

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Taking his time to analyze the situation, Marcus readies shield and sword, adopting a defensive stance.

Take a free action to use Combat Expertise for a +1 dodge bonus to AC.
How's the light condition of the room?

"Listen. We do not want to engage in unnecessary struggles. Come out and tell us what do you want, so we can put our weapons down. We don't mean any harm to you, but if you attack us... we're answering in full force!"

Diplomacy check:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Dwarven:
"Rogar, can you see him? I have heard that your vision is very acute. Be ready and give us a sign where to strike."

Edit: Wonderful diplomacy check. Lads, roll initiative!

Initiative:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Hey, sorry I haven't been posting for a while. I'm still on, but the current game status + crazy awesome real life stuff means not a lot of time for PbP right now. I'm not dropping out by any means, just wanted to reassure everyone that I'm still here.

I'm kinda in the same boat :)

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Marcus tries to look what Vironus and Ulrik are trying to do:

Perception check:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

and then he whispers to Rogar and River:

"What it's supposed that those two are doing?"

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

River & Rogar:
Once the group leave Cindi's, Marcus begins to walk ahead of River and Rogar, heading to the docks.

"Well, I say we should go to the docks first. Maybe Ulrik and Vironus has found something, or they have already caused so much ruckus that they might be in trouble. Once we regroup and compare what we have found, then I suggest we should seek after someone who can translate those words for us."

And then, seeing Rogar holding the papers, he ask him:

"Rogar, what are those paper's contents? Are they also written in Aklo, or some obscure tongue as well?"

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

In my case, I enjoy tabletop games. This is my first PbP game and it's entertaining so far...

But yeah, I prefer face-to-face, the nonsense chatting, snacks and good company in general.

yea, sorry. monday is the night of my f2f game :P it'll be up in a moment.

f2f? Face to Face?

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

River/Rogar:
"You said that these words are written in Aklo... Can you decipher it? If not, I think we should seek some kind of sage who can translate it for us. For now, we should take our leave."

Then, he take a second look at the crowd, hoping to not raise suspicions once the group leaves.

Perception check:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Marcus waits outside, looking for anyone who could discover them.

Perception check:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

"Haven't found anything yet? She may had some hidden room or space where she kept her private belongings..."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Upon hearing Ulrik's idea, Marcus gives a brief smile.

"For now, it's better if we act that way. We won't rise more suspicion about us and still can be in contact if any troubles appear..."

And then, to Vironus:

"Overconfidence has brought demise even to the mightiest warriors. I wish you good luck, but I'm afraid I can't take responsability for your actions.

Well then, we are splitting up. Rogar, River and myself are going to Cindi's. You can wander around the docks or wherever you want to be. Once we are done there, we are heading to the docks, if you want a meeting point."

Dwarven:
"It seems that we are going now. I hope we haven't make the wrong choice leaving those two alone in a unknown place... Shall we go?"

Then, he leaves towards Cindi's, waiting for Rogar and River to join him.

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

"It is true that River and I wouldn't call much attention, since it's our first time in this town, but, it's also true that none of us knows neither this place, it's inhabitants nor their customs. If we split up, we should be walking blindly, prone to be used like pawns for that Triumvirate or even worse."

And then, to Vironus:

"I think the first we should do is to look up after Cindi's whereabouts. Did you say you were at Cindi's place? Maybe, with River alongside us, we could find more about what is going on."

Then, he put a hand in Rogar's shoulder,

Dwarven:
"And your words reminds me the reason why I trusted you our companions, and personally prefer to stay by your side, wise one."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

I'm sorry, hard messed-up work and RL issues are keeping me away from posting for a while. I'll be posting tommorrow without delay! :)

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

"I understand your concern, Vironus. But tell me, did you see him harm anyone?

As far as I can know, he could be even a law enforcer... let's say... a bounty hunter, tracking some criminal on the loose. I you approach him and begin to demand answers without reason, maybe you are just going to ruin his day.

I'm not saying that we should trust him or such, and of course we should keep an eye on him, but that doesn't mean that by the very fact that he is of orc blood is evil. Give your warrior's heart a rest, Vironus. I'm pretty sure we will find some... exulting battles soon enough."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Seeing Vironus rushing towards the orc, Marcus call him back.

"Vironus, come back here! Surely he doesn't have any business with us, and even so, don't rush to put yourself in danger. Remember, our priority is to keep a low profile while we search out for answers."

If needed, here is a Diplomacy check:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Marcus put a hand in his sword's hilt and walks, wary of the orc...

Unless the orc engage in some kind of social interaction with the group (Diplomacy), Marcus will be watching his back and using his Combat Expertise feat.

Also, he will take a look at the orc's demeanor:

Sense Motive check:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Sorry, I've been busy lately, and my Chrome doesn't show the new posts so I didn't know that we already have left the Burning Tavern.

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Having finished his meal, Marcus walked slowly toward the exit. Once everyone is out, he will look at Vironus.

"Clearly, it was a good idea to get that wagon... surely it will prove to be handy. In any case, how and where do you get this, I wonder..."

And when River get in the wagon, he will continue.

"Rogar, my dear friend. I suggest that you get in the wagon in order to protect River in case we encounter any danger in the road. I will stay outside, for an extra pair of eyes and ears on the road are always useful. What do you think?"

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

I think the people are waiting for the GM to change the scenario.

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

And about accusations, we all know that the culprit behind the curse (and every evil that has plagued these lands) and evil mastermind is:

Major plot twist revealed:
Arirai, the qlippothic arch-otter!!! DUN DUN DUUUN...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

And now think about adding a Inquisitor to the party...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

"That's right Vironus. Also, I've been searching for rumors and information among the townsfolk and I've gathered some interesting things about some of our local figures..."

Looking around for unwanted listeners, Marcus continues,

"But for now, I think we should go back to the Villa. Going to the forest seems to me as a natural choice, but remember that besides River, no one of us are trained in the arcane arts... and if those witches are still there, is better if we can go prepared."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Seeing the tension rising among River an Vironus, Marcus tries to cool down the mood.

"Woah, calm down you two. It's clear that we have been summoned here because each of us possess abilities that will be needed to face whatever is causing this curse. I'm glad to know that we count with such proficient warriors among us, and River's abilities I'm sure will prove to be quite handy..."

And then looks to Rogar.

"Your dwarven heritage will be needed more often, I'm afraid. Long ago, there was a dwarven settlement around this place and your people worked on a mine that brought wealth to all around here. Sadly, it also rose envy and hatred... which I think was that triggered this tragedy in the first place...

Maybe you have come here to restore the dwarven dignity or amend a huge mistake!"

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Oh well, I think we have come to another RP bottleneck...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Taking the seat offered by Vironus, Marcus sits and once the breakfast comes to the table, he will start eating...

"I heard something about a woman, a Triumvirate and... a prisoner, perhaps? I would like to hear whatever you can tell me about it."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Marcus tries to wake up with the first lights...

Fortitude check:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

and after less than half an hour, he is ready and going downstairs, looking for breakfast.

When he arrives, he sees Vironus.

"Vironus! I'm glad to see you awake so early. Did you see any of the others? It seems we have a lot to do today."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

What is this? Some kind of Heightened "Hold PbP Campaign" spell?

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

I think all that's left to do is rest and start over in the morning...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Marcus tries to listen carefully to the conversation, struggling with the dizzines that it seems had made camp in his head.

An assault at the Triumvirate? What? And who are these Triumvirate after all?

"Listen folks, it's not convenient to yell out our plans in places like this... I've... I have gathered some clues and uh... maybe we should discuss this tomorrow?"

And then, looking towards River, Marcus takes two not-too-graceful steps and bow:

"I'm sorry milady. This is no state to show up before you, I beg your pardon but I need to rest by now..."

Then, he leaves towards his room... mumbling to himself.

What a nice girl... a little unwary, but nice nonetheless...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Having spent the afternoon and part of the evening wandering Ecland, Marcus finally returns to the Burning Tavern. He looks happy, but a closer look reveals that he occasionally stumbles...

At arrival, he will walk to the bar, towards Dangrio.

"Hello Dangrio, how's the bussiness?. Please, give me something warm. The townfolk seems to be quite fond of strong drinks... I'm afraid tomorrow's morning won't be satisfying..."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Posting in about an hour...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

It would help if you share your post schedule...

Well, I made it nastier than it was.

Oddly enough, It was Rappan Athuk...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

GM and River:
Marcus nods at River, but instead of working on the inn he will go out, trying to gather some rumors of lurking beasts, natural hazards and other threats the locals may know.

"Good. But I have others things to do right now. It seems that, either to the forest, the mines or even the castle, we should go out. It's better if we prepared ourselves to the journey."

Can I take 20 to spend the rest of the evening gathering rumors from townsfolk, spending a couple gold pieces and/or making Sense Motive checks if needed? If not, here is my

Diplomacy (gather information) check:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

GM:
Just to be sure, can Marcus take the Practiced Tactician feat in later levels?

boar? no... boars aren't in this clime...

It was just a half-joke.

In the other PbP campaing I'm playing, our group were pursuing some goblins whose hid in a cave. The casters stay behind the group, while the scout/melee crew take the lead. Due the vanguard's slow advance, the caster team had little to do... and then, a BOAR... to keep the interest in... I don't know. Not dying?

Anyway, since Ecland was so cold, I assume that no bOar is going to approach us in the middle of the town, but maybe a bEar... ;)

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

I just hope that an angry boar doesn't enter in the bar, charging among the customers :P. To be honest, that had just happened in other PbP campaign I'm into...

...So ... what is happening with Marcus and myself?

Sitting with popcorn. Enjoying the show...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

I'm glad to see the initial posting pace is returning...

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

GM and River:
"Well, as far as I know, there is many types of magic-users in the world, so you can temporarily pose as another magic-user, but it's important to let the others know about your magic, because it can be very useful in times of need... then Marcus smiles as experience can tell. In any case, you should tell them about it in the near future in order to build up trust among us."

Having made his point clear, Marcus relaxes, raising his voice to the usual, talk-level volume.

"Returning to the subject at hand... have you made some progress with Dangrio's books? I've been thinking that this curse's origin might be older than we thought. Perhaps looking about this land's first inhabitants and their religion can shed more light on the matter."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Maps are an issue for me, since I can't see them on dropbox or photobucket (curse you, Fortiguard!) but I'm willing to play if the GM helps with any spatial advice during combat.

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

GM and River:
Marcus lowers his voice, hoping to not call anyone attention and preventing unwanted listeners.

"Witch did you say? Like the ones that is said live in the near forest?"

Sense Motive check:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Seeming a little surprised, Marcus put both hands over the table and assume a relaxed posture.

"Don't worry. As long as you have been summoned here, it's clear that your sincerest desire is the welfare of Ecland's people, as any of us... and that's the reason why I beg you to be a little more tolerant with Vironus.
Although I've heard that witches often proved to be people to be feared, I feel that yours is a kind, careful spirit... I trust you, and if you trust me, I shall not judge you by however people calls you but by your deeds."

Then, Marcus smiles after taking a sip of ale.

Diplomacy check:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

"And wise people says that eyes are windows to the soul... and yours have a very deep beauty indeed... *cough* A-anyway, we should figure out a way to tell the others, for they might not be so comprehensive."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

GM and River:
"I'm fine, thanks. This food isn't as good as Lou's, but definitely better than what you might expect."

And upon hearing River's request:

"What you said is true, we must know the tools that we count on in order to get rid of this curse. As for me, I was instructed in tactical warfare, diplomacy and scouting. Granted that, I see myself as a competent soldier too. In fact, I used to..."

His face turns grim for a moment, and then takes a long drink of ale.

"...And pretty much those are my skills. Are you interested in something more? then returns to normal "I've seen you possess some kind of magical power, and as I'm not initiated in the arcane arts, would you mind if you explain it to me a little? It would be quite handy if we could rely in your abilities."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

GM and River:
While River was enjoying her food, Marcus ponders about the information gathered.

It seems that this curse might be offspring of a tragedy occurred not so long ago in this lands... but also can be the machinations of an evil god... or goddess.

Once he finished his meal, Marcus talks to River "I think we have done enough for today. Once the others come back, we can discuss whatever they've find out in the Villa and cast a new light on the matter."

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

As for my delay, I must apologize. Was caught in a familiar meeting and then a tabletop game session that stretched too long.

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

Wow, as I said on an early post, the pace escalates when I log out...

When I check the gameplay tab today in the morning and saw 69 new post my mind was blown!

I must first check what happened with River and the investigation. If I got more time, I'll take a look at your first battle.

Male Human Cavalier (Inspiring Commander) 1

While in work, I try to check the gameplay thread regularly, but it seems that the time zone difference is wide...

Anyway, Marcus doesn't know much about curses and supernatural things... he would try to encourage Urtar to stop playing dumb, but no much more beyond that...

please accept my apologies

If you aren't feeling that your PC isn't involving well with the plot, or simply want to change it, go ahead...

Anyway, if you still want to play, I suggest you to create a new PC. I don't think the GM wouldn't find hard to introduce him to the campaign...
