When they sit and wait, Mariner quietly continues the conversation with the Sentry. "You are fortunate to know with certainty your purpose. Humans are not born with a purpose. Some search for one, and some never find one. And even when they do, they doubt."

"I would suggest that you might be a better sword and shield, if you continued to learn about humans, because some humans are supervillains."

Along the way, Mariner cannot believe what he hears from Sentry. But, it explains a bunch. He genuinely replies to Sentry, "You know what your purpose is? What is it?"

After the review of the base, Mariner offers, "I'll go loiter around underwater while you make your onto the base. I'll focus on destroying any cameras and sonar down there. Maybe Sentry will come with me."

"When we receive your signal or if the base goes on alert, we'll breach one of the bays. Then, talk our way to you guys. Good?"

With consensus, Mariner and hopefully Sentry too will head out. He would attempt small talk with Sentry along the way until they hit the water. Trying to get to know him better. "What's the strangest thing that you feel is normal for everyone else?"

Underwater, they make a leisurely pace to the base. Mariner explains that speed creates noise due to water cavitation that can be heard a long way away underwater, so slower is better.

Arriving near the base, he starts looking for cameras and sonar. If he finds one, he attempts to disable them with an underwater "accident." Like having a tangle of seaweed surround a camera, or having water infiltrate power cables to the sonar shorting it out.

Mariner crosses his arms and looks at his companions, "So, what's the plan? Sentry and I offered to create an underwater distraction while the sneaky ones infiltrate the island. What preparations do you need in order to be successful?|

With respect, all encounters are not battles. An encounter can be with an individual to get information, for example Brainiac. I feel like we stalled when we thought we had all the information that he was going to provide.

What I was suggesting in that event of stall would be narrate the team to another encounter as part of the story. Gather more information. Start surveillance, etc.

I think some players don’t feel that they can contribute to a particular encounter, so they’re postless. However, we could ask for players to post an OOC post to say that they are good with the engaged PC suggestions.

Maybe some other players have fallen away due to the slow posting frequency. RL has a strong gravitational pull. We had such a great start, but with characters that are very different. Which is good, because the story can do more things; however, some PCs would be limited some times. I think the players recognized that possibility, or at least I did.

So, I’m suggesting to please narrate us to another scene with which to interact, even if it means that you make decisions for us. We’ll get players to interact and engaged again.

After Nightwing narrates the information on the thumbdrive, Mariner asks, "is there any timing to those missions? Where do we start?"

I’m just pushing the story, but I would suggest if you could just narrate the characters from one encounter to another.

The posting frequency should increase.

Now, even more confused, ”Wait. What? You built the machine? Why? What does it do? What are these two components?” He does pause between questions for Brainiac to answer.

Would you please spoiler what the PCs know about the Legion, because I don’t think we know much about Brainiac, right?

Mariner arches an eyebrow at Braniac’s response. ”First, please tell us who you are and what other things you want, so we understand more about you and your motives.”

“Then, please tell us more about what exactly happened at that laboratory. What did Legion want? Who was involved besides those who we incarcerated.”

“And tell us what this “machine you designed” does? And why it will stop Legion from using the TerrigenMutant Synthesis?.”

“Essentially, please us signifcantly more about what’s going on.”. He crosses his arms waiting for a full story. He would prompt any explanation with obvious follow-up questions to assemble a complete picture of the situation.

Even his Coast Guard commanders put their missions in way more context than what he has at the moment.

Mariner tells them team that he will meet them at the address. He approaches the warehouse underwater and looks for any waiting boats or entrances near the water. And waits.

Over the comm to the teams, "I'm in position with eyes on the warehouse. Can provide fog cover if required."

Lieutenant Junior Grade Noah Weatherby was patrolling the coast on board a crusier when Oddball's message arrived. He noted it and went back to his duty.

After returning to station and changing jumpsuits, he wanders to the dock and drops into the water when no one is looking. Then, at torpedo loiter speed to avoid cavitation, he swims up river to a slow part of the warehouse district. Up and out of the water covered in his Fog of War is flies to the crash pad using a low flying cloud to cover his arrival.

Inside the crash pad, his Fog of War melts away. "Deuce, what's this about a message from Brainiac?"

"Count me in for the opera, too. Never gone, but I'll try anything once. If we're done for the night, I need to return to station. Call me if you need me." Mariner nods to everyone, fist bumps the few who know how to do it on his way out of the lair.

With his Fog of War in place to disguise his identity, he makes his way to the water and jets underwater to the Coast Station.

Mariner listens to the conversation and becomes quite sad for the test tube heroes. He still had some time before he had to get back to his life and duty, "Oddball, Canary, how long will it take you to hack the computer and understand what they stole and why?"

"Then, we can decide what to do in the mean time, yeah?"

Mariner creates some cloud cover and flies to the base.

He plays with the lockpick set of Lightning Lass hoping he can give it back to her under better circumstances.

Mariner puts his hands on his hips and speaks into his commlink, "Oddball, supers are shackled. Anything else for tonight?

Mariner nods in reply. His fog of war swirling around him obscuring his identity. "Yes. These enhanced individuals were breaking into this lab. These three (indicating Lss, Girl and Lad) stayed outside to prevent any entanglements. I stayed outside after they were subdued. My teammates (indicating whoever went inside and didn't chase muggers) pursued the others inside and subdued them."

"There was a mugging within earshot of the Sentry. He took a couple of teammates with him. I hear that encounter is complete, and they are returning." Very, militarily concise.

Continuing the discussion with Oddball, Mariner replies, "clearly they are not the mastermind. And, are being used again. In a different way."

"The three out here have not really broken any laws, except maybe assault on us. And, it could be argued that we provoked it."

"How about the ones inside? Did you see anything besides trespass?"

Mariner looks over at Oddball. After an almost uncomfortable pause, he replies, ”Your juggling looks effortless. But I doubt that’s why you’re here. It takes a certain type of bravery to manage enough fear to stand between those with powers and innocents. I’m sure that’s why you’re here.”

“I hope we did this today. A building and laboratory are not really innocents. And who knows what the mutants were stealing was not going to be used by a nefarious corporate scheme? I hope so. These mutants have not had an easy life. They should be welcomed into society, instead of caged.” Mariner’s face is impassive but with a trace of wistful.

Mariner then waits extremely patiently for the local authorities to arrive and take the super villains into custody.

He maintains fog around him to cover him from the sight of a hostile telepath and opens tunnels through it when the authorities arrive.

If the local police station has a super holding cell, he’ll go there. Otherwise, he would have called the mutant hotline. Technically they should receive medical attention being unconscious

For want of something to do, Mariner will pickup and fly his three prisoners to the authorities: Cosmic Girl, Ferrous Lad and Lightning Lass.

He failed to find any useful information on their person which would help them track down their mastermind.

Maybe the others would have better luck.

"Transporting prisoners." He offers into the comlink.

He rolled an Investigation check awhile back before getting attacked by the telepath. Would like to put the supers in custody, so Mariner would be free to go after muggers.

Mariner taps into the comm link, ”team. I’ve a hostile telepath out here, and I don’t know where she is. I’m creating some fog to hopefully cover me and the prisoners.”

With a thought, a fog cloud rises up from the ground which is a bit off-centred from his location, in case someone wants to target the center.

With very little else to do, Mariner goes through the pockets of Lightning Lass, Cosmic Girl and Ferro Boy looking for clues. He pays attention not to enjoy too much patting down Lass and Girl.

Mariner waits by the three unconscious powered bodies for pickup by the authorities.

Mariner flies down to catch Lightning Lass from deceleration poisoning. He was pretty happy with himself at taking two of the ladies out without much fuss. Plus, he found that Lightning Lass doesn’t control water like she does the weather. Good for next time.

Do they have someone they can call for supervillain cleanup?

Mariner shrugs and replies to the Lass, "He's the Sentry. You should really fly away before he decides to subdue you."

He's going to try his dehydration trick on her but expects her to be immune. Sentry is certainly immune.

"Aw c'mon. That wasn't nice." Mariner sighs and replies to Lightning Lass. He backhands her, feeling bad about hitting a girl.

Mariner turns his head a little when Cosmic Girl falls. He is genuinely surprised she dropped so fast and hoped she wasn't hurt by the fall. To Lightning Lass, he says, "Wonder what happened to her? Hope she's alright."

He flinches, when Sentry pile-drives Ferrous Lad into a crater. "If he didn't have metal skin, that would leave a bruise. Look Lass, you can just go. We can meet up at a cafe somewhere on the waterfront. I won't hold a missed bolt of lightning against you."

Mariner crosses his arms with a smug look on his face when the lightning passes around him thinking, that was lucky. "You're going to have to better than that." Then, he blinks at the Nightwing flurry.

Believing that Lightning Lass may be immune to his weather control, and he doesn't fight actually fight the girl, so he attempts a little misdirection. With Cosmic Girl in his peripheral vision, he starts drawing all the water away from her. Sentry should be unaffected by his shenanigans.

”Who wants the crystals? And do you what they plan to do with them? Will it help or hurt mutantkind? And aggravating humans ultimately hurts us, right? Because, we’re outnumbered.”

Mariner smiles at the cocky teenager and replies, ”I’ve helped lots of fellow mutants escape persecution. So, when you’re ready, I can help you.”

“Now, you’re probably using you’re gifts to take or do whatever you want. That’s alluring, but it’s why they fear us. And unfortunately there are more of them than us.”

“You should know that you’re not the only one who can control lightning. And with a name like Lightning Lass, I would assume you can handle being struck by lightning. But, your friends might not be able to.” A little lightning flashes around him.

“Any chance, we can move this party to a cafe? I don’t want to fight you if you’re breaking the law. It’s bad publicity for mutants.” Noah really doesn’t want to fight this girl or any of them. They’ve been through too much and need justice of their own.

"Heh. Heh. Thanks. I'll check that out." Noah smiles at her genuinely trying to avoid a fight, so he tries to keep her talking. "You're one of the ones trafficked in that Ultimate Fight Club, right? How'd they get you?"

After her answer, he asks, "I'm glad they didn't find me. How'd you get your powers?"
