The players had a great time with the beginning of the adventure. I think the decision has already been made the we might end up stretching this module into some kind of story arc with these same characters. Not really a spoiler but details about what went down in our game: We started playing last night and didn't progress too far into the module. It ended up only being 4 players, our 5th couldn't make it. They had some fairly well designed 6th level characters but they aren't straight-up killing machines. The party was pretty successful of their investigation at the inn but interactions with the citizens of Dustpawn were laughable.
Always surprising me with something, they decided to rent a boat to get to the location in Part Two of the module. That figured out, the four of them made quick work of the encounter at B1 with only one of the characters taking significant damage. There was minimal bloodshed at B3 and the party returned to Dustpawn a bit more encumbered than when they left. Alyssia Turpin was not pleased to be awoken in the middle of the night and told the 'obviously' drunken adventurers to come back by the light of day after they'd slept it off. And that's where we left it for the evening, we'll pick up playing again next week. The party has picked up enough clues that they'll likely be heading straight to Part Three or trying to check out A10.
I absolutely can't wait for this module to come out. This fall I'm putting together a newbie group (zero experience with RPGs) and after running them through some generic encounters to teach mechanics we're going to do full-on character creation and then jump into this. Plus I'm looking forward to pulling some information from this module to use to expand on "Doom comes to Dustpawn." I have a feeling after running that module over the next few weeks my players are going to want to continue that into a full blown campaign.

I'd been looking for one of those too ... check out this thread. Someone put together a Google spreadsheet to do the work for you!
The Adventuring Party podcast! These guys are awesome. I know I'll never be attending a Con in Ireland but it doesn't stop me from listening every week as they do previews and reviews of the various conventions. Discussing table-top and related gaming and the Irish gaming scene so you don't have to. I mean, come on ... that's a great tag line.

Agreed on being good to practice on. I've never painted a miniature in 30 years of gaming. Heck, I've still a few boxes of AD&D miniatures that have never even come close to a paint brush. I'm in this kickstarter at the $100 level and I'm sure the first things I'll be trying out a paint job on are the mech warriors or something like that. But still, I'm sure I'll be able to figure out a way to incorporate them into a Golarion game some time!
I picked this pack of paper miniatures up last week not really sure if I was actually going to be needing any Orcs for a homebrew that I was running on Friday evening. Turns out I ended up not including any dungeon-dwelling Orcs but after looking through the PC-oriented Orcs I immediately changed three NPC characters into Orcs! They went from being three probably non-descript NPCs to suddenly being the "Green Guys" in the corner of the bar. The paper minis worked out perfectly. Also loved the various tribes of Orcs - plains, mountain, etc. This led me to introduce plains and woodland Goblins into the brand new campaign setting. Can't wait for my players to run into their first horde of Orcs! |
