I created the race from scratch, the four gender thing came up as a gimmick to make the race seem more interesting and alien. As far as the origins of the race, I have not thought of it much, but if I had to decide on something it might be similar to golarion gnomes, but rather then coming from the first world they would have came from the shadow plane. As far as society, it would really be based on the gender roles, females are very powerful due to their ability to create offspring with any other Schim, where as shi would be the bottom of the barrel, having to compete against everyone else the attention of a single gender. However the ones that have the real power are the males and shimales as a male/shimale union has the possibility of having children of all four genders. It is very possible that there would be a time when the female population would wane because only the shi don't have an option of what gender to mate with. Its also possible that if there were some sort of genetic cleansingg of either the male or the shimale gender that the race would dwindle down to only two genders. As far as values, I imagine that many of the schim are more of a free spirit type, especually with there being four genders it becomes easier to approach the type of attitude typically expressed by hippies, unless you are a shi of course. Theres a bit of a theme here, shis seem to have lost the genetic lottery, and basically no one wants them because there are more appealing genetic partners to mate with. As a result, shi are often looked down on in the Schim society, but the gender cannot be truely eliminated as long as there are male/shimale mated pairs. And yes I basically just expanded upon the four gender gimmick to answer your questions. ![]()
![]() Added a short blurb about Schim to the racial spoiler, also have most of the cruchy bits (lacks equipment and traits) for the actual character, working on background now. Fun fact, Schim have four genders. EDIT: Backstory is up, and I decided the pronouns for the fourth gender are Shi and hir (the third gender pronouns would be Shim and hirm.) ![]()
![]() Here's Louise Van Andel, from a Jade Regent which died after the first fight. He's already a 20 point build, and meets all your criteria (except he is average starting gold, not max), if there is anything that you feel needs to be changed about him, please let me know. This is his character sheet, and this is his horse. He has the keeper of the veil and childhood crush (Ameiko) traits, I have copied his background, appearance, and personality below in spoilers. Background:
When Louise was born, his parents had hoped they would have a daughter, as beautiful as his mother, instead they were blessed with a son whose beauty rivaled that of his mother. Often mistaken as a girl as a small child, his name did not help persuade others of his gender, and his unique heritage from his Tian mother and his Taldan father did not help him to appear any more masculine. He was so beautiful in fact that his mother would often dress her young son in frilly dresses and bows, his father did not appreciate this, but because of his love for his wife did not protest in the harmless fun.
At the age of nine, Louise's parents decided to leave his birthplace in Qadira for Varisia, where his mother claimed to have distant relatives. The plan was to travel for nearly two years by sea to reach Magnimar in Varisia before continued to Sandpoint by foot, however days before reaching the port in Magnimar, the passenger ship they were aboard was ambushed by pirates, and both of Louise's parents died protecting him, though the ship and many of the other passengers survived the assault, Louise would arrive in Magnimar heartbroken and alone. Though Louise had lost his parents only days earlier, he managed to meet up with his mother's relative who was waiting for his family in Magnimar to escort them to Sandpoint, this relative was Louise's distant cousin, Ameiko Kaijitsu. Having not known much about Louise, Ameiko assumed that he was actually a she upon their meeting, and miraculously after six years of knowing him, still hasn't figured out that he is actually male. Ameiko helped Louise get settled down, and was there for him as he mourned the loss of his parents, however, Louise never thought of Ameiko as a relative, after all they looked nothing alike, and their common ancestor was generations deceased. Instead, Louise found himself attracted to Ameiko, maybe because she reminded him of his mother, or maybe because she just happened to be in the right place at the right time, but regardless he developed feelings for her over the years. However, the young man had to do something to keep his mind off the loss of his parents, and began to practice riding. As the young man matured, he found himself looking less and less like a man, he wouldn't even try to look like a girl on most days, and yet men would flirt with him without a second thought, thinking he a she. Eventually, Louise would take up sword play, both in an attempt to attract Ameiko's attention, and to skirt the unwanted attention of almost every male in Sandpoint. However, these plans backfired, and the men around him were impressed with his dedication, while Ameiko seemed only supportive of his efforts. To this day, most of Sandpoint still thinks of Louise as a female rather then a male, even when he is fully armored and ready for a fight. Appearance:
Louise appears very effeminate, his long black hair and his Tian features on his Taldan face creating a beautiful work of art. His blue eyes seem to give him an otherworldly beauty that contrasts with his obvious Tian descent, and his tender skin is soft to the touch, with no obvious facial hair or bodily hair anywhere in sight. He wears simple leather clothes, that seem to draw attention to his feminine figure rather then bring out any masculinity which seems to be non-existent in the young man. Personality: Louise is a kind soul, always willing to believe that everyone has a good side to them. In Qadria he learned the teachings of Sarenrae, and he believes them with every fiber of his very being. Despite honing his skill with a sword, Louise cannot bring himself to use his sword to end another's life, feeling that all creatures of this world are worthy of redemption. ![]()
![]() Ok, so Louise is already a 20 point build with average starting gold. If we roll for stats/gold can we still choose the 20pb or average gold? Louise also already has a background, appearance, and personality, I just went ahead and copied the appearance and personality from the myth-weavers character sheet, because that was the only place they were. I have no interest in the character being anything other then a mixed Tien/Taldane human, I have no interest in max gold, if I qualify for anything else, I'll take it, but for now I have made no changes to Louise Van Andel. Louise's character sheet is here and if there are any adjustments you feel need to be made, please let me know, also, her mount is here ![]()
![]() "Something's obviously wrong here, maybe the goblins are actually attacking Sandpoint, or maybe someone or something already did the goblins in, but something here just isn't right." Louise says, following behind Krojan, leading his horse from the ground as he does.
![]()
![]() "I will take point." Louise responds to Khelvor's question as he mounts his horse and draws his sword. Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 "Just point me in the direction of my foes, I cannot see very well in this lighting. I'll light a torch as we begin our assault, but not until." Louise grabs a torch out from his bag and holds it in the other hand. ![]()
![]() Louise stays with Ameiko until she returns home, quietly supporting her on the loss of her dear friend. The next day upon arriving back at the tavern, Louise sits down quietly for a bite to eat while waiting for the rest of the group. I won't let Ameiko lose any more precious friends, I don't want to see her like that again. ![]()
![]() Louise could understand Ameiko's reaction, and it didn't help Louise feel any better. He couldn't help but feel worse that it was Ameiko's best friend who had died. He knew how alone Ameiko must feel right now, he wanted to comfort her, but he didn't think that she would want to see him. Still, he left the tavern to see if he could find her. He felt responsible for Nakitu's death, but he also sought Ameiko's forgiveness and knew that this was not a good time to leave her alone. These thoughts rushed through Louise's head as he tried to locate Ameiko. ![]()
![]() After making sure that Nakitu's body will be taken care of at the boneyard while they are away, Louise returns to the Rusty Dragon to inform Ameiko of the news. "Ameiko, I have some bad news for you." He starts, waiving her over from the tavern. "Nakitu didn't make it, I'm sorry, but I couldn't protect him, one moment he's all cheery and full of life like he always was, and the next, splat, he's dead, and for some reason a fox." Louise tries to hold back the tears as he explains to Ameiko what happened. "We were deceived, by something known as a faceless stalker, and Nakitu never saw it coming, he was being a kind soul, healing the injured, and he gets re-payed with death." At this point, Louise can no longer form coherent words as he is still coping with the loss. "I'm sorry Ameiko, I'm sorry." ![]()
![]() Louise also takes a negative to AC when using Challenge, -3 AC vs non challenged targets, and -1 AC vs challenged target when using Sworn Defense, or -2/-0 if not actively trying to defend someone else, so that probably makes Louise an even better choice, of course Challenge is only once per day at this point. ![]()
![]() "If we're going to have to backtrack to get to the goblin's village, I propose that we take a small detour and return Nakitu to Sandpoint." Louise suggests as the group is getting ready to leave Proudfoot's residence. "Without the threat of a goblin attack, I see no reason why the detour should be an issue, and unfortunately Nakitu is little more then dead weight and carrying his body around may cause us inconveniences." He looks over at Nakitu's body before adding, "Sorry friend, no offense." Taking the reins of his horse, Louise begins to load the dead Kitsune onto the back of his mount, which he will lead on the ground rather then ride. ![]()
![]() "Actually I do, it brings up bad memories." Louise explains, a little bit of sorrow in his expression. From his response, the word princess obviously seemed to trigger an emotional response, one that Louise was trying full well to suppress. "I can't tell you why, but let's just say that I've seen too many people die without being able to do anything about it." It was clear at this point that Louise had gotten caught up on the Princess part and had stopped listening to the rest of what Jix had said. If I was less of a Princess, maybe Nakitu wouldn't have died, and maybe my parents wouldn't have died either. I decided long ago that I didn't want to have to stand back and watch anyone else die, but ultimately I did. Louise was now apparently off in his own little world, muttering to himself quietly seemingly debating with himself if there was anything he could do to save the Kitsune, convinced that it was his fault and that now he'd have to break the news to Ameiko that Nakitu died, and he couldn't protect Ameiko's friend. How was he ever supposed to protect Ameiko if he couldn't even protect her best friend. One little word and suddenly the honor guard is moping over how he can't guard anyone because he's too much of a Princess. ![]()
![]() Although reluctant to leave his horse outside for the night, Louise ties his reins off near the body of the Kitsune. "Be safe." He tells his mount before heading inside of the house and sitting down at the table. "Your stew smells delicious, maybe you should have started a tavern out here." Louise comments on the smell as it seduces his nostrils. ![]()
![]() "But where are we going to bury him? I don't know about you, but I'd rather be buried in Sandpoint. Sure, maybe he prefers that those still in Sandpoint not know his secret, but there are those who would grieve for him, if he died a hero's death, then he should have a hero's burial." Louise argued, he didn't know much about Shelyn rituals, but it didn't feel right to bury their comrade so far from Sandpoint. ![]()
![]() Actually he can't, his archetype replaces bardic knowledge, so he, like the rest of us, can only hit DC 10 on an untrained knowledge.
Princess? Only my mother has ever called me that before. Louise looks over at Jix. "Shapechanger or no, show some more respect for the fallen." Louise reprimands the large rodent as Jix kicks Nakitu lightly. "Master Proudstump, if we are to take you up on your hospitality, I must ask you if you have a place for my horse for the night, I am leery about leaving her outside over night, as I don't want to awaken to a dead horse." Though with this Proudstump having lost his snakes, I'm not sure there is a safe location for my horse. ![]()
![]() "If the goblins are not planning an attack, perhaps I should bring Nakitu back to Sandpoint, I can get back to Sandpoint faster and then meet back up with the rest of our group before we attack the licktoads." Louise offers, holding onto the reins of his horse. "If I leave tonight, I might even make it back before the morning, though carrying a body with me while riding might prove difficult." He gently pets his horse, knowing that like everyone else, the horse has had a long day and that pushing the steed might have consequences, but Louise just didn't feel right about leaving Nakitu's body here, it belongs in Sandpoint. Louise is volunteering to take Nakitu's body back to Sandpoint, and this would allow Louise to pick up Jix when he heads back to return in the morning, unless you have another way of introducing Jix to the party. ![]()
![]() "I'm afraid we don't have the luxury of disbelief in this case. We must work under the assumption that an attack is imminent, though the path he recommended may have been meant to delay us to give the goblins more time, we should search the halfling's house, see if we can find any maps or maybe even better, the real halfling." Hearing the halflings stomachs rumble, Louise adds, "I suppose you can raid the pantry too..." He then stands there in disbelief over the young kitsune's dead body. I'm sorry we don't have time to mourn for you friend. ![]()
![]() Louise AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
"You're not getting away!" Louise shouts as he urges his horse to gallop towards the stalker again. Louise sword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Apparently Louise is blinded by rage... ![]()
![]() Attempt quick mount:Ride no armor check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Success, mount as a free action!
Louise then pulls his sword out from it's sheathe as he kicks his mount's side, letting it know to charge the faceless stalker. Louise's sword attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Those are some good rolls, and I managed to use a free, swift, and full round all in the same turn. I will note that I applied the +2 for charging to both myself and the mount, if I don't get the bonus due to my mount charging take 2 away from my attack roll. ![]()
![]() At the very least I think you wouldn't have stepped up to him after that roll for sense motive, however the perception roll was rolled after the heal and more importantly after you were trying to use diplomacy on him, and diplomacy according to the rules takes 10 minutes. He did beat us in initiative however and could just as easily charge you if he felt threatened or exposed, but if he has to roll a bluff check it could move that natural 20. ![]()
![]() Perception to see if anything looks off about Walthus: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
"Incredibly dangerous might be our best bet, does anyone know how to navigate the swamp, I don't like the idea of taking my horse through the swamp however, maybe I should send her back with a warning to Sandpoint?" Louise dismounted from his horse and looked over at the halfling. "Perhaps you would feel up to riding back to town in order to warn everyone? Likely you could receive better treatment for that in Sandpoint then you could here." Diplomacy to persuade Walthus to ride into town and warn the others of the possibility of a goblin assault.: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 ![]()
![]() "Not to rush anyone, but it's getting dark out here, however knowing that the goblins might be planning another all-out attack we may not have the luxury of waiting until tomorrow to strike the goblins." Louise looks over at his companions, trying to judge how the day of travel has treated them. "Although my eyes do not fair well in the night time, I am still ready to defend our group if need be, how about everyone else, should we seek out the goblins tonight before they get a chance to strike in the morning?" ![]()
![]() "Bad feeling or not, I don't see that we have much choice." Louise says indicating to the cabin "It's getting late and sleeping outside isn't going to be an option. I'm not even sure I should leave my horse outside, you know how those goblins hate horses." He adds stroking his horse's mane gently as if to calm the gentle beast. "Besides, this is the halfling's house, right?" ![]()
![]() Perception #1: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
And I am totally oblivious to all of these spoilers it seems. Additionally, do I need to dismount or make any rolls for my horse? It has a +6 perception, so I'll go ahead and throw those rolls. Mount Perception #1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
I'm thinking my horse noticed a lot more then me. ![]()
![]() "So Ameiko sent you instead of coming to help us herself? Well that's a sha...I mean welcome aboard." Louise took a closer look at the new arrival, barely managing to avoid running him over as Louise's horse seems a little startled by the appearance of the latecomer. "Sorry, my horse isn't comfortable around gnomes, one tried to eat her last time." He adds, trying to calm the steed. He is a gnome right? He sure looks crazy enough, that's for sure... ![]()
![]() Luckily, Louise had ate at home prior to arriving at the Rusty Dragon. "Are you done eating poor Ameiko out of house and home now?" He asks the halfling, noticing the grin on his face, "Well at the very least I hope that your excessive eating doesn't interfere with our mission." He unties his horse and climbs aboard it, trotting along, making sure that his sword and bow are close by should he need either of them. ![]()
![]() "Mother, father, I hope that you both watch over me today, and I hope that Sarenrae's light shines on me this day as I go forth to risk my life. Sarenrae, please guide my words and dull my sword so that no blood may be spilled by these hands. I do not know if these goblins can be reasoned with, but I do know that those I travel with will not likely give them the chance. Sarenrae, please forgive me for the lives which I may ultimately take part in ending." Louise utters as he readies himself for the adventure to kill Gutwad. He had slept well last night, but couldn't help dreaming of heroic feats which he hoped that Ameiko would see. After preparing himself for the small adventure, Louise makes his way to the stables to get his horse and then continues to the Rusty Dragon. Tying his horse outside of the tavern and whispering to it that he'd be back soon, Louise walks into the tavern, and waves to the others. "I hope I'm not late." Now might be a good time to go build my horse. ![]()
![]() Louise nods as Caewyn suggests meeting at the Rusty dragon shortly after sunrise. He then turns to Ameiko, "I suppose you can't go either?" He asks her, expecting her to say something about having to watch over the dragon. "It would be great to have your company." He adds before she can respond, and gets up to leave without waiting for her response. Let me just think for one night that you might see me take Gutwad's head, in the morning I can be disappointed in the news that you cannot join.
