Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Peering around the door, Leynus gives a long, slow whistle and then winks at Bellicus. "Nice work there, warrior. A truly mighty blow, I must admit."

The elf takes care to wipe his blade off on the corpse of the goblin he he slew, before sheathing it with forceful emphasis and gesturing about the room with arms spread. "It certainly seems to have won us the day."

At Val's comment, he chuckles and waggles a finger in her direction. "Don't be getting any ideas. Killing him would waste all the hard, honest work I've been putting in down here!"

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Hello! Yes, busy is definitely how I would describe things. But I am here! If irregularly.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Moving quickly alongside Elion, Leynus slices at the goblin himself. Oddly, the drums seem as if they continue to beat, though Leynus lays no hand on them during his attack. "I wouldn't try and get any of these to surrender. They're too foolish, too cocky with their numbers, and have ears too full of wax to consider it, I suspect. We'll just have to make do with slaughtering the lot of them."

The elf's speech is light and casual, but is followed by a grim chuckle. If there is a hint of sarcasm present, it's hard to detect.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Continuing Inspire Courage.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

I don't mind either way, but I'd lean towards you making your changes, Mike. Combat takes a long time to resolve in PbP, and it's not always super interesting. And if you do decide to switch some encounters with an alternative situation, instead of just removing them, that sounds really cool too. Not that I'd know an edited spot, but still!

Also, I should apologize for being so ridiculously infrequent. I'm definitely in the midst of a "crawl" stage right now. Been very busy around here, school and stress and the new semester coming and auuugh.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

The sudden shrieking and the distant noise of many more goblins prompts a sigh from Leynus.

The elf moves forward and peeks his head around the corner, hands splayed flat on his drumheads. The sight of the goblins sends them thrumming against the middle of the taut skins. The pace is quick and the tone low, heralding the beginning of the fight.

Moving up behind Elion and beginning Inspire Courage.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus does indeed have a bow! Unfortunately, he's not very good with it. Still, he can grab the arrows if no one else will.

The rest of the stuff Leynus has no immediate need for. He'll probably take a potion of CLW if no one else does, but there's nothing pressing.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus nods when Valeria breaks down the scenario. "Sounds right on the mark."

At Elion's mention of a group beyond the door, Leynus readies his sword and buckler. The elf grins easily at Val. "If we need it, I can use my music to harden our hearts and guard our minds. Yours is of a more hopeful sort, so save it for when times seem perilous."

He winks. "I doubt goblins will force such a moment upon us. But it's best I don't jinx the fight before it even begins."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

The night, for Leynus, is spent peacefully. Val's healing brings some relief to minor irritations, and his sleep remains mostly undisturbed, aside from his turn at watch.

In the morning, Leynus rises with undisguised discomfort. He stretches his arms above his head, seated cross-legged on his bedroll. His joints cracked, Leynus breaks out the food. He takes a swig from his waterskin, rations held in his other hand, to respond to Val.

"I suppose. Though there's many a place I'd rather be going. They're not the most pleasant of company, are they?"

The elf pauses to stuff some food in his mouth, hastily chewing and swallowing.

"Still, I feel much refreshed. Your performance was beautiful, Val. And with our magics restored for the day... well, we're ready for anything! Hopefully."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

A small crease forms between Leynus' eyebrows as he frowns. "We're all to escort him back out? That seems a rather formidable guard for one of his sort. Surely we could find a use for the rest of us while one or two go to take him outside. Though I'd not envy those who take on the duty."

Leynus glances sideways at the goblin as he says this, his nose wrinkling. He doesn't maintain the expression long; after a moment he looks at the group and grins. "So, any volunteers?"

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

"Maybe. Tell us what you know, and then we'll make our final decision. And don't try haggling, you're in no position to bargain. Tell us about your lair and your tribe. And not the domestic details - numbers, martial prowess, anything they might use against us that we may not see coming. Er, though if that pertains to anything domestic, then you can tell us about it."

"And the great powerful tree that lays below... tell us about that, as well. Where would one go if they wished to find this tree?"

The look Leynus gives the goblin is neither pitying nor threatening. His posture is relaxed, one hand running along the border of his cape and the other gesturing as he speaks.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Yes, we certainly will! I'm sorry I didn't respond to this more quickly - I've been under assault by a nasty head cold recently, and stuff's a little hectic around here, too.

Pretty redundant to say anything now that you've gotten Mike's word, but in my opinion it'd be really weird for any of this group (as characters) to disappear and to switch around the cast. There's something very... established about the group, even since the beginning. In my mind, anyway. So I'm glad Teral will be sticking around!

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Bending over the corpse of the goblin he slew, Leynus meticulously wipes the blood off his sword, watching Bellicus from the corner of his eye. There seems to be no reason to fear for the goblin's immediate future, as Bellicus does not put him to the sword immediately. Leynus is not overly concerned about its fate regardless, but the thing could still prove useful.

What the goblin tells them is expected, though there is one discrepancy that Leynus did not anticipate.

The elf stands, sheathing his blade and approaching the rest of the group gathered around, leaving the goblin, momentarily, to Bellicus and Akshara.

"Did you hear? Three others? It seems our vanished friend Karakas did indeed find his way down here with Grachius and the Hucrele twins. Unless they picked up some other ally that we've yet to catch wind of."

Leynus turns his head towards their captive, nodding at it and spreading his arms magnanimously. "Goblin, tell us also of these three others that traveled with the knight. Describe them. What did they look like? Did you hear names? How did they fight you? Speak quick and true, and you may yet live."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

I don't know if the Diplomacy is needed, what with Akshara probably making the little guy pee his goblin pants. Worth trying, though.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Glad that at least one of their number is getting in a hit, Leynus strikes again at the same goblin. He laughs towards Val, the mirth infecting his speech. "Vicious they may be, but capable they are not!"

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Crit confirmation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus moves forward, now that Bellicus has handily dispatched the goblin he took out of commission. He stabs towards the goblin standing in front of Valeria, hoping to lay it low. Unfortunately, he misses, leaving himself feeling a little foolish and the goblin still able to strike.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Singing quietly and playing strictly along the rims of his drums, the tune Leynus produces is both quiet and eerily cheery. It speaks of some long forgotten joke, but whatever humor it may have had is lost in its incorporation in the spell.

Casting Hideous Laughter on the goblin directly in front of Bellicus. DC14 Will save to negate. Ideally, this should be resolved before Bellicus or anyone else attempts to stab it.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus readies his sword and buckler, and whispers around to the group. "I'm afraid most of my magical tricks have run their course, at least for today. I may have a spell up my sleeve... but beyond that, you'll only have my sword for this fight."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus bows low, gesturing at Akshara. "Thank you for such a wondrous gift, King Yusdrayl. I'm sure it will prove most useful. As will the others, once we return here with the dragon."

He looks towards the others. "To the goblin place, then?"

You did mean that we get two items or the key after our glorious return, right? Not that we'd have to wait for just the key?

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

"The dragon magic sounds very powerful, your majesty. We would never dare insult such powers, which are assuredly beyond our meager comprehension. We would just like to know the specifics of what they might do before we accept such a gracious gift."

Leynus leans in to whisper in Elion's ear, a hand placed lightly on his shoulder. "Do not forget that we're not just here for material goods, my friend. Perhaps Yusdrayl has information on Belak, which could be just as valuable as "dragon magic". She also had an agreement with Grachius, the errant knight, which could also prove useful. Haggle carefully."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Uh, this is probably a little late, but I should apologize for the creation of such tension.

I was intending to just make yet another jab at Bellicus, but I laid the jerkitude on too thick. I hope that it doesn't affect the future development of Bellicus and/or of party cohesion in an adverse way, though I suppose that that could be interesting.

I imagine Leynus will meet his fate at the hands of someone he insulted (if we don't all die horribly by some monstrosity in the Citadel), so if he did help transmogrify Bellicus into a meaner, more fascist self all I did was expedite that. I just didn't and don't want to limit the ways in which our group may go, and I fear I may have done so.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

"It is as wise Anton says, great King. She will not harm you. We come solely in peace, an offer of solidarity on our lips and hands empty of weaponry. We are of good intent and jovial demeanor. Please, make yourself calm."

Leynus bows low and with a flourish, cape flipping forward over his head and then back once again as he straightens up with a bounce. He smiles as winningly as possible, his mouth much cleaner thanks to the barrel.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus, mouth open and retort forming, finds himself stiffening at Val's intervention. He looks away, shame-faced despite himself. "I was not insulting what he has lost; only what he has retained in spite of that loss do I find offensive. He thinks himself better than these creatures, but yet he also finds himself here in the dank dark. And they at least choose to be here. So great are we, bound to fight to find our freedom."

He backs off a bit, tugging at his hood and looking grumpy.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

"Do you believe yourself equal in combat to a court of kobolds, Bellicus? Puny as you must think them, I suspect that they outnumber you. We hold a tenuous position in this place, and if we can bolster it with allies, why wouldn't we? For the sake of your pride? I should think that would have been long lost, considering the rather pitiful state of your current existence."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

That's really cool. I had my eyes set on Legacy of Fire as a desert-themed adventure to run locally, but maybe now I'll wait for this.

Er, I'm assuming it's desert-themed by the title, so forgive me if I'm assuming wrong. Regardless, congrats!

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

While the others tend to their needs with the water, Leynus drinks as much as he can out of his waterskin. He bears Akshara's spattering stoically, and refills the skin at the keg.

Then, to Bellicus, "Yes, a mephit. Elemental creatures from the varying planes. They're not the most powerful, so typically they find themselves bound to some stronger creature."

And to Meepo, "Elion is really the one that deserves the credit. He opened the door, after all. But I'm glad Yusdrayl will find this to her liking; hopefully it will smooth negotiations. Does anyone else have any business with the keg? If not, shall we go?"

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus winces as Anton brings the scythe down. "Well, if it wasn't, it is now." He looks around at his heaving, groaning, thoroughly sick-covered companions and gives a stained grin.

"It's understandable. I wanted to bite the little horror myself. Never in my life have I experienced something such as that. But at least we won the day, yes?"

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus, becalmed and emboldened by his own performance and the disappearance of the very noxious cloud, moves forward to take his own slice at the mephit.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Move: to D2.
Standard: Attack.
Free: maintain Bardic Performance.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus wipes his mouth and stands up straight. "It's not a demon! It's a mephit - an elemental of some sort! It might be in the service of some stronger creature, be wary!" Leynus decides that reentering the cloud is not worth it, and begins to instead play the now familiar tune of his eerily calming drums.

I believe I'm now done with nauseated rounds as well. Standard action to Inspire Courage.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Gagging intermittently, Leynus can't manage to belt out what he knows. Thankfully, he feels the nausea finally starting to wear off, and takes a few breaths, readying himself to reenter the cloud if necessary. He wants a piece of the little elemental.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Nauseated rounds: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Leynus remains bent over, though thankfully his stomach has emptied. Still, the ache in his gut and throat is tremendous. He groans slightly and turns back towards the fight, but can't find the will to reenter the horror of the cloud. Instead he tries to focus, thinking on anything that might help against such a foe.

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

It all works out. After those rolls, no matter what Leynus would've spent the round whimpering and intermittently retching.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

I was going to roll Fort now, I didn't think it would have effected me last round, as I went before the demon so my actions were spent. Was I wrong?

Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Leynus, initially starting to make strong gagging sounds, jerks his head up in horror as his face turns green. He stumbles back, trying to escape. When he breaches the cloud, he bends double, one hand against the wall, and vomits. The sound he makes echoes off the stone walls, a cringe worthy splattering accompanying it. The moans of suffering following soon after are almost as disturbing.

Move to G2.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus stares at the little demon, somewhat perplexed. "Are we under attack? By something so... entertaining?" The elf sighs, and his eyes roll beneath his mess of hair. He bends his head slightly, and begins to tap lightly on his drums. A slow, unintelligible tune drifts out from under his hood.

After finishing, he draws his shortsword.

Standard: Casting Cause Fear. Frightened for 1d4 rounds, or DC 14 Will save to be shaken for 1 round.
Move: draw shortsword.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

You were just trying to build suspense? Uh, hm. That might not work either.

You don't need to apologize. Life before games, and all that.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus looks on for a moment, slightly amused by the group piled onto the spear before shrugging. He grabs an available bit of spear and tries to help pry the keg open. "There's already four on it; I can't see why a fifth would be overly crowding."

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus looks on at Akshara clambering all over Elion, amused. He glances towards Meepo at Bellicus' rather rude response. "Don't mind him, Meepo. He'll not skewer you, for fear of my wrath. I'm the frightful one, you see." He waggles his shortsword vaguely in Bellicus' direction as he says this. "Can you tell us anything of this Yusdrayl, before we go to parlay with him?"

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus glances towards Teral and smiles slightly. "That would be a sight to see. I almost hope it really was a dragon."

His thin-fingered hands disappear beneath his hood and the material shifts and rustles slightly as the elf scratches the back of his head. "So you had your dragon, Meepo, but goblins came and took it... and now you're under penalty of death if you do not retrieve it? Quite the conundrum... and you're not even to blame for this disaster! What do the goblins want from the kobolds, that they would even dare to steal a dragon? Is it a territory dispute?"

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus glances at Akshara and then back at the rest of the group, shaking his head slightly as if admonishing them for scaring the kobold. He walks towards Meepo and then kneels slowly on the floor, giving the most sincere smile he can.

"No one is going to be killing Meepo. Calm yourself, little friend. Your end is still far off in the murky and untold future. To repeat my friend Elion, over there - has anyone been harming you? Or are falls like that common?"

Leynus gives the room a more thorough glance and frowns. "And why are you lurking in such a dingy room? Have you been left behind?" He indicates the debris scattered near the firepit.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus rolls his eyes and darts in front of the warrior. "Subtle as always, Bellicus." And then, to the whimpering pile of blankets, "Please don't worry yourself about him. If you bear us no ill will, you shall come to no harm in our presence."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus shrugs. "I suppose we can always hope that's the case. Whether or not it is, it seems our best bet would be to try one of the other doors."

*cough* I, uh... do believe that my modifier for that check was slightly higher than Teral's.

Joking, don't hit, don't hit!

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus takes a peek over Val's shoulder at the door, seeing if he can make any sense of it himself. Sadly, any recognition of what might be in place on the door eludes him. "I'm quite fond of the kicking-it-down plan. However, it would probably be irresponsible to not check as thoroughly as possible to make sure there's no danger."

Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus claps lightly at Akshara's quick dispatch of the rat. "Perhaps there would have been more to worry about if Akshara had not been made such a ferocious predator. An impressive kill, huntress."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus, still slightly embarrassed by his rather whimsical entrance into dancing, follows Val, tugging at his hood.

"I would hope the stone will continue to stand despite our walking... Though I suppose it pays no heed to my hopes."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

At Val's playing, Leynus stands, grinning slightly, and then, very surprisingly, breaks into a dance.

Perform (dance): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

At the end of the performance, he sits again, a most sheepish look on his face. "My drumming might not be most suited to such cheeriness, but I thought I might contribute in some way."

I'm here, too! Ready and eager.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus frowns. "I'd certainly hope you're not afraid of me. I was only out to damage your self-esteem, not your courage. Regardless - the least of the undead nearly ended some of us. We can afford a rest, though vacating this place entirely seems unnecessary."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus nods. "Yes, next time we'll send Bellicus in first. Although judging by his last performance, he might be too frightened to deal with any such horrors. Nearly quaking in his boots, he was." Leynus gives Bellicus a sideways glance as he says this.

I'm curious - did Bellicus hear Val's prayers? Or was he too busy with Akshara?

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Congrats, Mike! I hope everything goes perfectly. Over here it's sweltering, so in particular I hope the weather's nice.

I'm around. Considering those fights probably took place within less than five or ten minutes of each other, I'm sure Leynus would love to take a seat and talk for a while.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus relaxes as Anton soothes Akshara. "Well, I'm glad that didn't escalate any further. Now we can get back to the comparatively pleasant task of raiding this sunken ruin at the behest of our evil overseers."

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Fascinate would be my standard action for Round 4. Guess you guys will have to just deal with the angry Tiefling on your own! Next turn I'll try Cause Fear.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Leynus breathes a sigh of relief as he sees the final skeleton fall, but this quickly turns to a sharp inhalation as he sees Akshara turn on Bellicus. Something is clearly wrong, and he quickly switches his song to try and divert Akshara's attention.

This new performance is of a quick tempo, focusing most on the larger drumhead. The reverberations are cut off and then start anew by the continuous beating of Leynus' hands. The sound is mesmerizing, and it echoes through the mind. The effect is difficult to shake off. Leynus focuses his performance on Akshara, moving into her line of vision and making firm eye contact.

Bardic performance: Fascinate.
DC 14 Will save.

Male Elf Dirge Bard 1, HP 9/9

Could I try and counter it with Fascinate? Or perhaps Cause Fear? I'd rather not see anyone get mauled by Akshara, even if that person happens to be Bellicus.
