Hanging around, quite busy, waiting for more input

Leandric gives all a broad smile as they wake up. He gives Anton's spellbook a curious look as he holds his own in his hand. He always thought his spellbook was a mess but with it's clean edges and perfectly clean, white paper pages it looked almost saintly compared to Anton's, at least from Leandric's point of view.

He once more riffled through the pages of the book before him before he sat down next to Anton, "We should compare notes sometime, when we have time. It could benefit us both greatly." In truth Leandric was mainly curious what the frail man was capable of.

We'll manage, you take care of yourself and those around you.

"I'd say south, deeper into the Stolen Lands. I can't imagine bandits hiding out in the open." He didn't sound very sure but it was the best course of action he could think of, "I do wonder what is to the east though. Perhaps we should check both?"

"Just give me a moment if you'd please and I'll be ready to depart. Are we sure the last bandit is secure back there?" Without waiting on an answer Leandric pulled out his spellbook and started going through it, lingering on one page. He mumbled several words in high tempo while tracing his index finger over the page. Once he reached the end he nodded and stowed the book away.

"Ready when you guys are."

Leandric would not mind either way but if we go now he'll need a few minutes to prepare.

As far as tracking goes I'm afraid there is little he can offer. Maybe later if I get him a familiar with scent.

Leandric looked away as Cuddlessnapped the man's neck. At least it had been cleaner than the other kills.

He then turned to the last remaining bandit, "Now then. Are you willing to talk yet or do you need some time to stew on it?"

Leandric knew investigations could get ugly but this was more than just ugly, this was sickening. Sure, these were thugs but no one deserved to go like this. At least what Katya did had been an accident. Or had it?

Still, there was nothing he could do but hope the others were wiser than their dead fellows. The punishment for what they did was death after all.

I won't be going with the White Mage though. Doesn't really fit Leandric and I do not want to lose my 1st level exploit as that means I can't get any of those till 5th level and they're quite a crucial part of the class. Stack that with the horrible spell access and you might as well play an Adept for the first few levels.

After reading through Eldritch Font a second time I do have a question: Would you be ok with me applying the Eldritch Font archetype?

That would in itself help me further differentiate from Anton since it'll slow down my progression a little more while giving me more options to toy with the very fabric of magic. For instance it'll delay my access to 2nd level spells to 5th level.
Good thing is I can start learning them at 4 since strictly speaking I can cast 2nd lvl spells then (can up spells to 2nd level with metamagic etc) but just can't prepare lvl 2 spells.

EDIT: It does however mean that'll be using my lvl 1 feat, which I for some reason still haven't used yet, for Extra Exploit -> Quick Study to somewhat patch up the reduction in spells prepared, evcen if only for the levels where I actually have any.

"I'm not sure if we all have the exact same charter but I am here to tame these lands, make them more hospitable. As of right now these lands are nothing but a sources of bandits, mosquitoes and other problems and I am here to fix that. I assume all of us are." He looked at the frail man as he talked too Katya. He seemed to have some over inflated idea of magic yet at the same time his vision was limited. Maybe he'd have to educate the guy at some point in the future.

And I make my (glorious) return. Festival was good, weather was bad and now I'm back to the action in here.

"Hanging them from the walls wouldn't be a good idea, it will only attract beasts to the outpost. If you want to do something like that chop off their heads and stick those on pikes." His face turns grim as he speaks of the beheadings before tuning back to the others.

"While I would prefer to see them imprisoned and working to pay off their debts I do not see how we will do that here. While the threat of a hug from Cuddles would probably keep them in line we will not always be here to monitor them and we can't ask that from Oleg or Svetlana. They also need to be fed, putting a further strain on the outpost. I personally think we should give them the chance to prove themselves."

He sighed as he turned towards the restrained bandits, "As for their leader, he clearly has some rank within the bands of this "Stag Lord". If he isn't willing to give is the information we desire I suggest we enforce the law on him, as is our duty."

Leandric would project fake Olgan at around the A1 on the map.

As an aside, I'll be off for a few days starting tomorrow(Thursday) and will be back on Monday. If needed just npc Leandric. He's most likely to shoot his crossbow once the fight starts but if one opponent looks particularly threatening it becomes an Ear-Piercing Scream target.

While in general I would agree do take into account we have time to prepare here. We could have created the best hiding places possible.

Besides, the bandits have no reason to be suspicious. It's always just Oleg and Svetlana here, no one else.

The moment they get close and Katya gives the signal an illusory Oleg will walk into the courtyard.

Leandric wakes up quietly, a thoughtful look on his face. Without a word or any delay he grabs his spellbook and opens it. After several moments he slams the book shut. He then opens his mouth to then clean it using the same magic he used to clean his bed yesterday.

Upon hearing the conversation about the lookout he nods, "If you could give us a signal when they approach, I can project an image of Oleg in the courtyard so they will feel more at ease."

Preparing Silent Image instead of Mount, Scream stays

Leandric walks along the walls of the palisade en inspects the buildings. If he is going to use this as a staging ground he has to be assured of it's craftsmanship. Staying in a shoddy house was just waiting to be killed by falling building material.

Knowledge: Engineering: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Once he retreated to the bunk they would be sharing he started making notes he starts cleaning his bed using some simple magic while three faintly glowing orbs orbit his head. Once he's done he starts making notes in his journal, working on both ways to improve the outpost and ways to improve his own skill.

Leandric isn't too strong offensively at the moment though. For starters I completely forgot about Color Spray and while that somewhat suits Leandric it isn't ideal.

When it comes to offense I'm now stuck with Ear-Piercing Scream (which I picked for the entertaining image) and creative use of Silent Image.

Leandric needs the night to prepare Expeditious Excavation, he doesn't have it right now. He can dig a 15 feet deep hole but that would cost him all his 1st lvl spells (3x5 ft) and I'm not sure that's ideal.

"We must make sure we don't scare them too much before we locked them in or they will run." He flipped open his own spellbook. "I'm not sure I have much to help out here. I could grease up the floor or temporarily incapacitate one of them but in general my magic is more keyed to defence than offence."

Only 750 KM? That's from where I live to the centre of France, quite distance by European standards.

Almost automatically Leandric switches to the Dwarven tongue upon seeing Harsk enter, "Good day master Dwarf. It is good to have one of the stout folk join us."

Yes, as a non-subscriber I still have to wait but I'm really looking forward to it. Not so much the White Mage though, that's not really a fit for Leandric. Eldritch Font and Spell Specialist to both look fitting though.

And Ronza, as someone who just managed to beat a depression a little over half a year ago I do understand where you're coming from, at least to an extent.

"Easiest then would be to let them come in here while we stay hidden and then close the doors behind them so they are trapped. That way we can deal with them at our leisure."

Once the question about spells comes Leandric focuses on the spindly man. What was it that he had up his sleeve? There were many things one could do with the right skills and some magic he was just curious what this man was up to.

"I could create a hole in the ground to stuff them in, just takes some time to set my mind to it. A fifteen foot deep pit should do the trick, right?" Leandric smiled. At least the woman seemed to have the idea straight. He was stuck with an otherwise odd bunch though: the simpleton man with his fists up in the air, the simpleton orc named Cuddles, a bookish guy that looked like he'd blow away in a stiff breeze and the redhead.

"I do not see the point of senseless slaughter either. They need to be punished, even if repentant, but they can redeem themselves by hard labour."

I also saw something about a Strangler Brawler which focuses on grappling.

Brown Fur transmuter sounds like Anton to me.

I'd actually be interested in either the Blood Arcanist (with Deep Earth or Impossible bloodline) Eldritch Font or Spell Specialist. Would just need to know what they give up.

I'm really looking forward to the book, also because I have an investigator and a hunter that need to be updated.

Forgepriest might be something for Harsk.

I won't actually see it immediately as I'll be off starting next Thursday and be back on Monday.

That and I need to find a credit card to actually buy the book.

Leandric got up from his sear, closing his books, and walked over to the owners of the outpost. He extends a hand, first to Svetlana and then to Oleg, "Good day, my name is Leandric Garess and these are Katya, Anton, Cuddles and Cander. I would not say we are your guards, like my colleague aptly pointed out, but we are here to deal with the bandit issue."

For starters Leandric would very much be "hands on" ruler, working with the people and for the people. He'd probably try to steer the nation to become a centre of learning and invention.

Do note that the nation will initially have the alignment of the Ruler, LG in my case.

As for the Anton/Leandric thing, I agree that figuring out though play would be the best but I also think it's good to keep an eye on it.

Just to clarify, I do not intend to make you obsolete in any way.

While my initial idea for spelle selection was something like 35% Conjuration, 35% Transmutation, 20% Illusion, 5% Abjuration 5% Everything else I can shift it a bit from Transmutation if that helps you. Like Cynarion said Leandric will focus on permanent and instantaneous stuff, so Transmute This to That, Stone Shape, Obsidian Flow, that kind of stuff. Buffs will be all yours.

EDIT: Well, with the exception of Flight, that's too good to pass on.
EDIT2: On the Quick Study: The fact that it can mechanically do something doesn't mean the character will. Buffing, beyond the occasional Fox's Cunning on himself when he struggles with a devious problem, is just not Leandric's thing.

I agree with Cynarion. Our biggest overlap will be during the first few levels, after that we will differentiate quite a bit more. The spell example is a good one (except that Leandric might also go Burrow as he has a thing with earth and stone).

Leandric is also less restricted with his spells than Anton is, so I'll try to pick up Necromancy and Enchantment a bit. The Necromancy will just be things like Magic Jar though, rest is way out of flavor while the Enchantment would become more prominent if Leandric ends up Treasurer.

What is a boon of two prepared casters though is that, if the characters trust each other enough, they could copy from each other's spellbook, increasing both our options. Now I must admit that in the long term that will benefit Leandric more, especially once he has the Quick Study exploit, but both of us will be better as a result.

EDIT: And yeah, being the only one with a positive Cha modifier would make Leandric destined to be Ruler while I'm not sure he'd be in to that.

"It's an honor miss. I am Leandric Garess, of House Garess, from Grayhaven." He makes as much of a bow as he can make from his seated position.

On his lap he has a spellbook, like Anton, but in his hands he holds a smaller journal in which he's writing. As he does he goes back and forth between his journal and his spellbook as if comparing things. If anyone was to peer over his shoulder he or she would find the notebook filled with arcane markings and calculations.

Both Knowledge: Nature and Knowledge: Planes are planned skills for Leandric. Similarly I'll probably be dropping some ranks in linguistics at some point to get more languages. The Knowledge: Nobility is part of his upbringing so that will hardly get any more ranks out in the wild.

Disable Device isn't needed, locks can be broken and summoned ponies can trigger traps :P

Besides, we always have Leadership (or Squire for Katya)

I actually purchased 2 more things for my gear set: A shaving kit (needed with such a moustache) and a journal

I myself am Dutch and as for spelling you'll see me using both US and UK/Aussie spelling depending on the word and my mood.

As for our characters Anton, I think it would benefit both of us if we figured out a way to make our character's distinct mechanics wise (they already are when it comes to personality I think) and turn our overlap into a roleplaying tool, either because they become (friendly) rivals, admirers of each other's work or bits of both.

If anything I see Leandric toying with the very fabrics of magic (within the GM allotted area) which could annoy or frustrate Anton.

It had been a few hours since Leandric had parted with the caravan as they veered off further west while he had to continue south. They had tried to discourage him as someone looking as he did and going on foot was sure to draw attention. He simply smiled, thanked them for their concern but assured them there would be problems and that he'd be fine.

His words had been partially true. There had been a single bandit trying to attack him at some point but a simply cantrip had been enough to get him rid of him long enough for Leandric's summoned mount to get far away from the thug. It was good that the man had been alone though, more could have proved an issue.

With the palisades in sight Leandric and his mount parted way as the horse trailed away into mist after one last scratch behind the ears. With that out of the way he simply walked towards the outpost, curious whether or not a place like this would have it's gates opened or closed. It would tell a bit about the area.

Leandric specialises in Transmutation and Conjuration, quite like Anton. He'll change at later points though as he'll prefer permament adjustments to temporary ones and you'll see him using Wall of Stone and similar spells quite a bit, probably in unorthodox ways as well. He'll also have his weird moments as I intend for him to play with the Sacred Geometry feat (not sure if I'll also grab Calculating Mind as I have no idea if I'll need it[/url]. It adds randomness to the character but the fluff fits him fantastically.

Out of combat he is an architect and engineer by trade and knows a lot about construction. He also has a keen eye for the value of things (think he's the first character I ever made that has appraise trained). He is an intellectual and he might have some issues adjusting to people like Cuddles. Also, don't be surprised if you see lots of hexagons in his designs.

I also just realised I haven't added all his starting 1st level spells to his spellbook, so I'll get to that.
