Sorry for my tardiness in giving those selected their thumbs up, but that pesky RL DC smacked me around quite a bit. I knew I was facing some major arcane competition, so it was a battle well fought all in all.

If Lartis doesn't make the cut for Bravo squadron, here is hoping he gets to hook up with you guys on a different thread.

Now to get my ghosting on by following the threads from the cheap seats. :)

The other votes:

Melee: Varya Tial - I was uncertain between her and St John Smythe, but Varya post about her motivations has won my vote.

Divine: Celine Moonveil A though one as I know Jaime and will enjoy playing with her. I like Lhinneth description of her character more but Jaime healing abilities are more powerful. At the end the deciding factor where Lhinneth str 8 and cos 10. Sorry, but I feel that those are major weaknesses.

Arcane: Lartis - I liked both his and Okhosa concept, so again the deciding factor where the stats.
BTW, Lartis, you are a Universalist wizard?

I have listed the reasons of my choices and the best contender as, if we play with a group of 6 character, there is space 1 character from each group plus 2 extras.

Lartis is an Universalist wizard.

In all honesty, it seems my biggest competition concept wise is with the bards of the group. I designed Lartis in my head to be more of a scholar than a traditional adventurer and sees the adventure as a means to an end. He will have a clinical view of magic, all magic, and seek to figure out the true differences between how the gifts of the gods differ from how a soul can harness raw magic from the ether. I added in the usage of UMD into his skills, but did not want to twink a mechanic opening by taking it as my CHA based skill I could use my INT as the primary stat.

Lartis is a jack of all trade mage and would continue to be so as the game progressed. He would seek to analyze the situation and prepare the best overall useful spell at the moment, trusting his instincts as well as book logic.

From his heritage perspective, I really wanted to show that he is a fish out of water in the "real" world. Being raised by two outcasts, his adopted parents sheltered him from 95% of the real world, so he has never had to deal with issues such as slavery, racial bigotry, social envy and similar. Adding on top of that how would elves react to a half-orc knowing their custom and traditions and wearing elvish tattoos given only to "their" wizards. How would orcs and half-orcs deal to someone who knows the words in orcish, but not their true meanings? The PbP format allows for that type of expression, so I ran with it at full steam.

As the man behind the curtain, I have just recently returned to PbP gaming, as well as gaming in general. I have been TDY over 80% of the year for the past four years, but recently changed careers and moved to Massachusetts where my schedule is far different.

I am also a game pusher and try to post anytime it makes sense that my character would add something, but I also know when to zip it and let the other PCs shine. I think that it would be great to game with any/all of you, which brings me to that topic and my votes accordingly:

Melee: Harbek. I just really liked the blue collar feel to Harbek and I think he would capture the roll up your sleeves and lets get this done quality of the dwarves.

Divine: Jord Strumsson. For many of the reasons I liked Harbek, I liked Jord as well. I almost feel he would be a priest you would see challenging people to arm wrestling matches while drinking them under the table to gain converts.

Arcane: Okhosa Vusutan. He has a tie back to the region and that may be very vital as this progresses.

Skill: Shackleton. Any character who wants to mix Mustrim Ridcully and Teddy Roosevelt is one that I would move the heavens above to get into a game with.

So let the chips fall where they may and I think this is going to be a great game to play in or follow depending on how the chips fall.

I finished the crunch aspect of Lartis' and tried to keep linking everything to show that he is far closer to either a human or even another half-elf than to being a half-orc. Lartis looks at magic, all of magic, as a great mystery and firmly believes the ruins in the Mwangi forests will hold the key to unlocking them.

I will work on the description next and will fully kit him out if I make it past the initial round of cuts. With all of the top notch submissions thus far, I don't envy your task.

Adding my placeholder in for Lartis, Half-orc wizard who has lived a metropolitan life with his adopted parents and is quite separated from his more rough and tumble half-bloods.

I will adjust his racial abilities to reflect his lack of any true "orcish" upbringing leaving only the ones left behind due to genetics.

History in a nutshell:
Lartis, the adopted son of two half-elven mages, grew up surrounded by magic. He teethed by gnawing on spent wands and learned to walk and run chasing after his father's fox familiar.

When he was old enough, his parents tested his magical aptitude and were delighted when he proved he could harness the fundamentals of magical energy. Spending the next 8 years learning the lore of magic and mystical places, Lartis grew fascinated with the untamed wilds of Mwangi. After finishing his apprenticeship, Lartis took only his cartography equipment, his father's battered beginner spellbook, and a few basic supplies before catching the Jenivere out of Magnimar.

I will be playing Lartis as someone who understands on an intellectual level that people will be treating him differently due to his mixed heritage, but he has never had to deal with any discrimination as part of his "real" life. Having been sheltered by his adopted parents, all he has really known is the motto of his parents "There is nothing in life that can't be solved by money, sweat or magic".

He sees the trip aboard the Jenivere as fascinating and will often be seen with the ship's navigator asking the how and why of things.

Edit: I will finish rest of crunch when I get home.
