So everywhere I look, it’s all doom and gloom with the Kingdom subsystem. Leveling is too slow, not enough ability score increases, skill checks are slanted against the players, etc.

But we all know that complainers are always louder.

What I want to know, are there folks out there that LIKE the rules as is? Are there any fans of running the rules without alteration?

Does anyone have a positive view of the 2nd Edition Kingdom rules out of the box?

So I can't find any DCs for the 4 defense setups you can do, and not even which skill to use for the Post Snipers activity.

Do we use the Kingdom Control DC or am I missing something?

So I'm reading the Starship Chase Rules in SOM, and I am a bit confused as to using them for a race with the Wintermourn.

Do I have both ships do the Obstacles and Chase Actions checks? And the winner is the one with more successes?

Or does only the Oliphant make the checks and they win if the overall Chase Outcomes result in a Success?

Also, what are the DCs for Chase actions? Based on APL?

So when you save on a dragon's breath, you take half damage. How about if you have Protection From Energy (of the dragon's breath)?

Say you cast it at 10th level: 120 points. So if you save against a 150 point breath weapon; do only 75 points come off the spell?

I always rule that the full damage against the spell is not reduced by a save.

Any thoughts?

Can we get a ruling on the Level 9 and Level 14 versions of this weapon from page 59 of the AA4?

Surely it’s a misprint that they do 25d8 and 46d12 respectively? Otherwise, it’s another great book. But this kind of damage for these level of weapons is insane. Any designer or developer feedback is welcome.

Good Morning,

So sadly, I will be cancelling several of my subscriptions in the next couple of months.

Effective immediately, I need to cancel my Pathfinder Cards subscription (which has been inactive for the past couple of years anyway). Also please cancel my Player Companion subscription immediately, since it seems to be going on hiaturs anyway.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Module subscription after The Fall of Plaguestone ships.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Campaign Setting subscription after Druma: Profit and Prophecy.

Please cancel my Pathfinder Roleplaying Game subscription after the 2nd Edition Rulebook and 2nd Edition Bestiary ship. I want the books as part of a promise I made myself about owning the starting rulebooks for every iteration of the D&D rules. But beyond that, I have no plans to play 2nd Edition Pathfinder on a regular basis. Sticking to legacy Pathfinder.

Finally, and with the biggest regret of all; please cancel my Pathfinder Adventure Path subscription after Part 6 of Tyrant's Grasp ships.

Please note that I wish to keep my Starfinder AP subscription active and will be adding the Starfinder RPG subscription to my account.

It has been a great privilege to be one of tbe Adventure Path subscribers from the beginning. I love the PF ruleset and will always consider legacy Pathfinder to be my game of choice. It has been an honor to spend my coin on your product.

I do not cast aspersion to the need for the system to morph into a new Edition. It is the way of things. But I have enough PF materials to last the rest of my lifetime and this is a good time to start saving more money for retirement in a few years.

I will remain a loyal customer with Paizo as long as you continue to produce quality (1st Edition) Starfinder products as well.

Thanks for many years of great gaming, Paizo. Huzzah!

So my Dead Suns group just got their ship, saw all the cargo and crew space, and their eyes filled with credits.

So they instantly decided to take a page from Firefly, and start like looking for passengers and cargo for their trip to Castroval. I immediately began to grumble. Nothing I can think of the tell them no, but I’m worried it will unbalance the economy of the Adventure Path. But I also don’t want to railroad them and be a curmudgeon either.

So I told them, they each get an extra 2000 credits for this initial 6 day trip.

Any ideas on how to regulate this or nip it in the bud?

So I rewatched one of my favorite Tom Baker-era Doctor Who's last night: Pyramids of Mars. To me it has everything that made Tom Baker my favorite era of Doctor Who and my favorite Doctor.

It's got some of the best death screams of all time (which drove all the PMRC-types crazy) and that creepy Sutekh/jackal head still gives me nightmares. Plus the beautiful Elizabeth Sladen, mummy robots and the Doctor committing arson to maintain the time line.

Just wondering if this was on anyone else's favorite list and why? Erik and Vic, are you listening?

This also happened with the last Syrinscape product I ordered through Paizo. I get the hyperlinked "Serial Number: Click here to fetch serial number" but everytime I click it, the screen refreshes and I get the same link; the serial number never shows up. Very frustrating. On the previous order, the serial number eventually showed up. But this one is not cooperating at all. Is there an issue with Microsoft Edge?

Now I'm talking rule books here, not novels. I have lots of subscriptions and the unread stuff is starting to pile up. But I can't seem to stop ordering new books. In fact, I haven't had time to read a novel in years.

So I'm curious: do most folks read them cover to cover like a novel (like I do) or do you spot read them when you need a rule or clarification?

How do you read your Paizo books?

Please keep all other subscriptions active.

So I am thinking of dropping my Pathfinder Tales Sub when the trade paperback format goes live. But I am curious, will I lose my Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Charter Superscriber tag if I do so?

I really like the tag and would hate to lose it, but I also have no real interest in the loss of print/pdf bundle, trade paperback size and increased cost. To be honest, I have only had time to read Winter Witch so far anyway; too busy reading everything else I get from Paizo.

So would my tag remain the same, and if not, what would it change to?

So I need some ideas from the Daemon goto guy Todd Stewart. And my players please stay out of this thread!

So I have a player that ended up with the Enmity with an Outsider card from a Deck of Many Things. I decided the Outsider in question would be a Daemon Horseman, and rolled a d4. I got Szuriel, Horseman of War.

The party is in the middle of Jorgenfist and just made contact with Conna. The requisite time passed of the first enmity encounter per the Deck's description. So I grabbed your Book of the Damned 3 and picked a daemon to zone into a battle with 4 Stone Giants. I rolled a d6 for quantity and threw 3 CR 9 Sangudaemons at her. The party of course stepped in to help out. I definitely put the fear of God in her, but it was a great way to end the session. So where to go from here?

It's a party of 5 characters that just hit 12th level. The character with the Enmity is a straight class Rogue.

I figured you might get a kick out of a suggestion or two, though I totally understand if you don't have the time to engage my musings as well.

What would you advise for the frequency of the daemon attacks? How quickly would you start to escalate the CRs of the daemons?

I certainly don't want to wipe the group and it will be a long while before they can deal with going to Szuriel's plane to deal with her directly. So I have been pondering how often to break up the AP with daemon shenanigans.

Any ideas Todd (or anyone other GMs) might have is appreciated.

Does this mean the order is still waiting to ship? I haven't received anything yet on this order.

So I keep reading other threads where folks keep trashing Pathfinder in their enthusiasm over the shiny new game that recently has taken the gaming community by storm. It's kind of like going to one friend's house for dinner and spending the entire meal talking about how much you like another friend's cooking. It seems kind of distasteful to me.

I don't want to use this thread to throw that gaming system under the bus. What I do want to do, is find other posters that are staying the course with Pathfinder rather than jumping ship for 5th.

The purpose of this thread is to say thanks to Lisa, Erik, James, Jason, the other James, Wesley and the rest by telling them how great their system still is and why you love it enough to stay faithful to her.

I love the complexity of the rules, the well-written plots of the Paths, and the level of discourse the Paizo staff has always shared with their website visitors.

Who is with me, and why did you choose to stay with Pathfinder?

And let's try to keep the thread positive if at all possible.

Hey gang. Total PFS newb here. I played a Saturday morning scenario and then the big Stonelord scenario Saturday night. But why do many of the bad guys in the last two AP modules seem to be missing the lower level of spells in their stat blocks?

Take the Pleasers from City of Locusts for instance. They only have listings for 5th, 6th and 7th level spells; what happened to 1st through 4th level? I've been looking through my MA book and I don't see a blanket immunity for mythic PC's against spells up to 4th level.

So what am I missing? Scoured the forums to see if anyone else had asked this question to no avail. So either I am missing something extremely obvious or I am the first to notice the omission. I am leaning towards the former...

Hey gang,

So I know this is coming out soon, and I did the Pathfinder Online Kickstarter level where I get the pdf gratis. I also have a module subscription and I want to get the hard copy of this when it comes out (and plan to pay for it).

The rub is; I am already getting the pdf as a reward for Kickstarter, so is there any idea of some kind of incentive for someone in my situation? I mean like a discount on the hard copy, store credit or some kind of other balancing factor?

If not, I can't really complain; your customer service has always been exceptional and nothing is going to scare me away from being a subscriber (short of bankruptcy). But it would be great if there was some other way to be rewarded for supporting the Kickstarter and being a loyal superscriber!

I know I'm not the only one in this conundrum.

Thanks!

With the rest of the Paizo staff at GenCon over the weekend; does anyone know if the warehouse crew is working today to get subscriber orders out?

I'd like to know if I should even bother checking my email today for the long-awaited Mythic shipment email.

While it would be depressing to find out I have to wait another two days before a CHANCE my items might ship; it's worse keeping false hope and wasting time on it.

Anybody know?

With all the Ask threads being the in thing, I thought I'd try something new. I miss Steve Greer. I read his last posting from 2012 tonight, and I think he left feeling not so loved.

Well, I think he wrote some great gaming material. And I'd love to see him write some more. Sins of the Saviors is a fun dungeon crawl. Paizo obviously thought a lot of the guy, he was in on the first adventure path.

But I find the PFO Kickstarter somewhat confusing.

So I pledged $35 and then manually changed the pledge to $135. Couple questions. Since the $100 was added on, do I still qualify for the Beta (am I considered at the Crowdforger level)? Also, is this how an add-on is supposed to be done (will I get the Hardcover printed Emerald Spire book)?

I just want to make sure that I am doing everything right to both get the Beta access and get the Supermodule, assuming we hit the million dollar goal.

It's me again.

Just started a once-a-month Pathfinder ROTR campaign and already had two players flake out. The two remaining players have never played any kind of tabletop RPG before; so the learning curve is extreme. But it's also a lot of fun, seeing them learn the rules to the game from the ground up! One is running a cleric; the other a wizard (but he would much rather run a ranger or rogue, so casters are welcome!)

We play one Friday evening a month, from 6ish to Midnight. I live in the corner of Rogers bracketed by Lowell and Cave Springs.

Looking for anyone close by to join in the fun. We just had one game so far, and we are still in the opening battle (with the final wave to go)....

So after running 2 VTT 3.5 groups. and one Pathfinder face-to-face group; I finally get to play for the first time in over 3 years! And the DM wants to make it a Pathfinder game; it is also a VTT game. The problem? We need a platform in which to run it. I use Fantasy Grounds and it does have a user-created PF version, but it isn't user-friendly or easy to convert over. I got him to look into d20 Pro, but it also requires a cracked-type patch to use, and it also requires for a person to buy 2 programs to use. Also, the DM can't help with character creation/updates like he can with FG II.

I know Lisa Stevens talked about working with Smiteworks to get FG Pathfinderized, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. My DM is starting to lose his enthusiasm for the project as it becomes annoying trying to find something that might work.

So are there any ideas? Can anyone think of any other VTT platform that is ready to work with PF stuff or that is an easier patch?????

So, I was reminded once again at my game last night, how much I hate the spell Orb of Force (at least as a DM).

This spell is too good!

So they are fighting the corrupted ghaele and sword archons in the Spire of Long Shadows. Everything is going pretty good, then the Ultimate Magus finally whips out the OoF. Game over. Which is okay; they are supposed to win after all. However, they get to level up to 14 and his Sorcerer half gets to pick his 1 4th level spell (which he can cast like 4 or 5 times a day). Guess which spell he chooses?

So now he will be able to throw 5-7 of these bad boys a day. And I start looking at the endboss (a CR 17 spell weaver lich). Suddenly, this intimidating capstone to a rich module looks positively PC-bait. What might have been a 9-12 round slugfest, may now be a 1-3 round slaughter.

Let's face it, undead hit points suck. And a 10d6 ranged spell, that doesn't allow for a save or spell resistance will cut through those 112 hps quick. Even if he doesn't kill the thing in the first round or two; it will be too busy casting limited wishes for self-heals to be able to do anything remotely offensive. And unfortunately, there are really no defenses against unsavable force effects.

I'm thinking my best bet is to throw a couple of Swords of Kyuss in there to help with their Invocation of the Worm ability. That will distract at least a couple of the 6 PC's and help keep the lich's hp relevant for 3-4 rounds. Maybe I can get off a maze or two, and a couple of enervations. I'm also seriously thinking of respec-ing some of the lich's spells to use a few Spell Compendium/BOVD spells myself.

Wizard may not like Oof as much when I hurl a couple of them his way.

What really hurts me in this group is that they have two divine healers (one of which is actually a Healer [the class]). It's very hard to kill or incapacitate a character in this group!

I just got my latest set of Dr. Who DVDs (The Horns of Nimon, Underworld and The Time Monster), and I got to thinking. This place is loaded with Dr. Who fans; what might be there favorite/stand out episodes from the original series. We all know that Erik Mona's fave episode is The Two Doctors, right? Yes, that was sarcasm. I'll start off with the ones that stand out in my mind (almost all of which are Tom Baker episodes).

The Terror of the Zygons. This one is not yet available on DVD and I haven't seen it in years.

The Hand of Fear. The episode that made me fall in love with Sarah Jane forever (Eldraad MUST live).

The Masque of Mandragora. Love this one.

The Image of the Fendahl. This one always makes me thing of The Masque of Mandragora (I don't know why).

The Seeds of Death (or is it Doom). The one with Harrison Chase and Scorby. And a really mean mulching machine.

The Pyramids of Mars. Sutekh and a really buggy-eyed old dude.

The Talons of Weng-Chiang. Classic.

The Horns of Nimon. Been years on this one as well....

State of Decay. Vampires!

The Curse of Fenric. Sylvester McCoy at his best.

The Caves of Androzani. Peter Davison makes me believe.

Earthshock. They killed Adric!

Battleground. Lethbridge-Stewart comes back.

More are to follow I am sure....

I just lost two players in my recently converted to Pathfinder campaign. My remaining 3 players voted to abandon our ROTR conversion, to start from scratch with a new campaign. We need 1-2 new players to round out our group. I'm allowing all PF stuff and most of the 3.5 supplements into the campaign.

I've decided to run Curse of the Crimson Throne for them. We usually play one Friday a month. I have 4 cats (of which 2 aren't shy about toppling miniatures); so allergies have to be considered.

Okay, I need help.

I've got a player who disagrees with me on how spreads work. The disagreement is simple.

He believes that the word "spread" means that the spell starts at the area described in the AOE part of the spell description and then continues to "spread" out each round until it floods whatever area it is cast in (outdoors it could conceivably be miles of stuff).

I believe that the term "spread" (a poor term for what it does granted), is just a type of spell shape that works like a burst but can go around corners. It never moves beyond the stated AOE unless specifically described in the body of the spell (like cloudkill for instance).

Now he does respect my ruling as a DM, but he considers this to be my interpretation of the rules. To me, it is not an "interpretation" at all, but how the designers of Pathfinder (and 3.5 before that) intended for this to work.

The spell in question that started this whole disagreement is FOG CLOUD.

I welcome any other posters to comment on this. but I'd really love and appreciate it if I could get an "official" response from one of the Big Guns (Mona, Jacobs, Buhlman, Sutter, Schneider, or Reynolds). Those guys are always so good about answering stuff like this.

I am going to refer all of the players in my group to this thread so they can follow along with it.

Thanks in advance to all who weigh in on this subject!
