"Damn and I was hoping some fire was in order..." he mutters under his breath. Dodging below the thrashing pseudopods, Kegmar works his way forward, attempting to coordinate his attack against the same creature as Fredrich, cautiously striking from a distance with his dwarven weapon. Power Attack from E-6 with reach Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
His swing goes wide, chipping the floor amid a flurry of dwarven curses.

Kegmar shoots the elf a questioning glance. "And who ye calling an animal, now?" he grumbles, before realizing the elf wasn't necessarily singling anyone out. Cautiously, the alchemist approaches one of the creatures to get a closer look, his dwarven weapon ready if the thorny pile becomes hostile. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

The dwarven alchemist squints his eyes, trying to identify any subterranean growths he spots. Spotting one particularly prized fungus noted for it's uses as a growth catalyst, he pulls out a small scraping device before realizing several of the others are observing him with fear and concern. Sheepishly, he returns the implement to his pouches, and resumes his grip on his dwarvish weapon, plodding along as silently as he can near Fredrich.
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
Kegmar grins up at Fredrich at the idea of hunting bugbears, following closely to the warrior. "Ach, once I had a greet stand-off with'a band o'de bear-bugs. Stole me clan's treasure ey' did. Ferocious beasties they be, but no match fer us." Sorry for sporadic posting, end of year => lots of work responsibilities popping up in Nov/Dec.
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
Ah, at least the charging/flanking made a "4" a hit! Kegmar grins at Fredrich as the troll begins to stumble about, and begins to suggest aloud, "Now all 'e need is a bit o'fi---" when Eltariel's fiery bolt impales the brute, dropping it dead. "Aye, that'll work jes feyn" he nods, as he prods the monstrosity with the end of his dwarven weapon. "I dun' think a troll weld act alone, so we should dew 'er best to be wary..."

At the point of his ability to muster about town stealthfully, the dwarf grins at Aude. "No offense taken, in fact I'm not much used t'folk actually even going one ancestor deep as ye jus' did!" At the confirmation of a poisoned well, Kegmar eagerly unties a set of his alchemical tools, and begins to extract suitable samples for later research. As he performs this work, he can't help but to sniff the poison to try to recall anything he knows about it's origin or effects. Craft(Alchemy) to identify poison: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
The dwarf shakes his head. "Tree-folk cursing men to turn into trees... why that's like me cursing a tree to turn into a dwarf!" Gripping his dorn-dergar tight as they scout about the silent village, the dwarf glances about at any irregularly shaped shadow that would remind him of tree branches. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
Placing a meaty hand in one of William's, Kegmar shoots a toothy grin at the new-comer. Well - you assume it's toothy, the mangy beard obscures the dwarf's mouth - which you assume he has as speech does come from him. "Gud ta'meetcha lad. Seems we got erselves some trouble wit trees." Tugging on the end of his beard, he looks at Eltariel and wonders aloud - "I dun think I e'er urd o'a curse turnin' folk inta trees?" Kegmar will spend a few moments considering anything he's ever heard or learned about a curse that would turn someone into a tree - pick your appropriate check? Know (Arcane): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
Kegmar seems to sober up significantly once a day away from a tavern. He maintains a jovial attitude, striking up conversation, telling far too many stories. "A corrupted tree-ent y'say?" the alchemist wonders aloud while pulling on the end of his beard. "Ye must know, I never did trust the tree-folk, remind me of a spider they do, with all their limbs juttin' about." The alchemist will consider any weaknesses of treants that he may have heard of. Know (Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Kegmar also offers to brew up any potions that others would want. 1/3rd cost if we use RAW

The dwarf looks at Eltariel with a twinkle in his eye. "Ah, a kweest ta seet up a full laboratory is it? Perhaps ye can be talked inta a combination lab brewhaus then?" The dwarf's large grin does little to dispel worries that perhaps a feral mutagen and the weekly hops might get mixed up and cause a hairy situation to occur. As the topic of religion and gods is broached, he quietly busies himself in his drink, continuing to remark to himself his own ideas for a seasonal brew, muttering words like "barley", "pumpkin" and "toadwart".
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
Kegmar squints an eye at Eltarial and for the first time tonight speaks in a hushed tone, as if what he is about to say is the most important thing that has left his lips this day. (hushed) "D'ye have any drink in this castle?" Spoiler: If the answer is "yes", you know the dwarf's answer. If the answer is "no", it's also good! -- as it's an opportunity to BREW some!
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
"Private ventures, eh?" the dwarf smiles at the elf's tone, his face somehow widening to accommodate the breadth of the grin. Seeing Fredrich approach, the dwarf nods in approval. "Ach, I heerd o'this one as well - Master Moosenburgh." Kegmar clambers onto a stool, as if the situation is suitable to him, before continuing. "Ah suppose if theer was a Man of character, 'e might be it. Looks like yer recruitin' dreev is jess'bout complete with the likes o'us." The dwarf seems to feel that a deal has already been made and completed, and no further negotiation is required.
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
"Yes! So ye'av urd of me!" the dwarf bellows, looking like he's about to pat Etariel on the back in celebration, but he catches himself just short at a disapproving look from the the elf. "Truly a greet feet that day, 'twas a meety hill geent not jess an ogre, m'lady!" The pats the numerous vials attached to his sash. "And aye, I be known to dabble in meekin' m'own bruz - 'tis how ah greew so big!" Seeing approving looks, despite his inebriation, he smiles proudly. "So who's buyin whilst ol' Kraus hars yer tale and what ye be needin?" His words are spoken loud enough for any in the common room to hear, and perhaps join in to listen.
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
Several moments pass after Eltariel's question, as the dwarf seems to be performing some complex mathematical equation in his head, or perhaps just mentally taking long to process the conversation. "Aye, deed'ah not jess do that?" he asks, looking puzzled. He holds out his rather large hand in greeting. "Ahm Kegmar Krausenbrew, son of Bolgar Krausenbrew, grandson of Gedmar Krausenbrew, greet-grandson of Kraus Krausenbrew." He reports his lineage proudly, and each time he pronounces Krausenbrew, he pronounces the Kraus longer like Krowssssss-en-BRU He looks expectantly at the elf, waiting perhaps a few moments too long again for a reply. "Wha - have ye not 'urd of me, lass?"
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
In an attempt to wipe the frothy brew from his dense beard, Kegmar missed most of it, and to some, perhaps made it look worse by spreading it around his hair. His audience had departed after his last tale, and the dwarf wasn't sure if that was because it was one of his less rousing stories, or if he had drained his audience of their coin in free beer. Not that the Headless Griffon's beer was anything special, they most certainly overcharged for it. Squinting his aged eyes, he smacked his lips and looked around at the patrons for another vic... err, someone to share stories with. This time I'll be sure not to start with the tale o' how I saved the dwarf king's laundry from the derro, and go with something more rousing he thought, which was impressive since he felt slightly inebriated already. At last his eyes came to rest on three young ladies (well, young to his old eyes) who had recently walked in. With purpose, they walked to ol' Warbeck, who appeared to know them. Turning his head sideways to aim his good ear this direction, the dwarf strained to hear. Crop of men. Ruins. Fighting men. Good character. Was the elf daft? Certainly a fighter of good character was a dwarf, not a man! Working himself up from his chair, Kegmar swayed a little and muttered to himself. "Ach jess how many brus wuz it I jess had?" As the room spun, he summoned his deepest reserves of energy to cross the room to the women. Midway, all this movement jostling around his insides, the dwarf worked desperately hard to stifle a large belch. Finally he reached the bar area, a journey of greater challenge that his quest to find the ancient anvil of Lor'duun. Kegmar grinned at the three women, as if he alone knew some ancient secret lost to time. Of course, he stood there in utter silence - having forgotten that he had not yet introduced himself, and now awaited a reply.

I await an opportunity to post... still watching, and checking in 1-2X/day. Keg can probably be found at any drinking establishment - sober enough to be recruitable. If it makes things easier, I'm OK with a pre-existing group of 3 with Fredrich & Aron's monk (we did hit level 6 somehow... )
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
Got it, you threw me off with the "adding to arcane potential" comment, then! I went back through the game-thread, I realized I've actually read the first several pages of this PbP before. It sounds like the remaining PCs are Eltariel (wiz/dru), Layjiani (rgr/rog) and Aude (cler) with the possibility of Gashelle (dusk)? Definitely sad to see the threesome of Eltarial, Avinar and Gashelle broken - amazing RP there. You look solid on skills (rgr/rog), arcane (wiz/dusk) and divine (dru/cler). Fredrich (scranford) is a great front-liner, and hopefully Keg can fill in on some melee and small gaps in the arcane/divine/skills (hey there's always aid actions on skills).
Male Dwarf Fighter1/Alchemist5
I haven't been on the PC side of an alchemist yet, but Kegmar should be able to handle some of what an arcane caster normally would with knowledge, spellcraft skills and ranged bombs. There's a little boon in fast alchemy crafting of inexpensive cure potions if Wellard allows time and all the rules as written...

Ok, I see the following details from scanning back in this thread to 2008... * The standard 2 starting traits aren't used. I'll axe those, although would the feat that gives 2 traits be allowed, if someone was so tempted? * HP was 75% of max per level, so for Alchemist (d8) that's 6/level. * It looks like the sub-races of Wilderlands were used. I have the Players Guide, so shall I assume we can use those subraces? For Kegmar, the Kazadaran (Mountain Dwarves) called out to me... shall I/can I set my land of origin to Thunderhold? Correct me if I'm wrong on anything, or it changed in the last 2 years.

DM Wellard wrote: Kegmar gets in just because I'm interested in the way a dwarf will change the party dynamic. That's from the recruitment thread, if that's a spot, I'll hasten to finish 'Keg right away. Any requests from the other PCs that I can entertain in completing the sheet? I'll scan this thread for HP rules, etc. |
