Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

this toon had just joined unit 4

Generally, you take anything over 10 as a bonus less 10, round odds down. Anything under ten is a negative less 10, round evens down.

So a 15 becomes 14-10= +4. A 7 becomes a 6-10= -4.

Just like with core races, buy your attributes with the point buy, then add the racial modifiers.

I know that one of my classes will be wu-jen, and in a similar theme, I'm thinking something sneaky that complements the wu-jen without going MAD.

Are you using all of the 3.0/3.5 oriental adventure and rokugan material?

I'm one of those applicants, I hope.

Question on the race. Using as an example, (and not the one I was thinking of) A Pixie is 1 HD and +4 LA.

So you are saying that the gestalt would be:

Pixie/wu jen 1 // ninja 1
LA // LA
LA // LA
LA // LA
LA // LA
Wu jen 2 // ninja 2

That's a big penalty over:

Pixie/wu jen 1 // ninja 1
LA // ninja 2
LA // ninja 3
LA // ninja 4
LA // ninja 5
wu jen 2 // ninja 6

Means that while everyone else is a 6 HD creature with six levels in two classes, this pixie is a 2 HD creature with some racial abilities that are already reaching diminished returns (hence the LA buy off).

As an alternative, would you consider the racial progression aka Savage Species on one side of the gestalt?

Dot as well, I do.

5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 2, 3) = 17 12
5d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 1, 6) = 19 17
5d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 5, 1) = 17 14
5d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3, 1, 6) = 14 12
5d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 5, 1) = 15 12
5d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 5, 2) = 18 14
5d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 3, 1) = 15 13

rogue/ninja//wizard/wu jen. Not sure yet if I want to use the oriental classes or just re-skin the standard.

Would you be open to allowing monster races, or races with LA to take one side of the gestalt?

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4

Are we trying to keep our employment status discreet?

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4

"Don't look at me, I just joined up. Still reading the laws. You would think there was a slightly higher entry standard..."

Kaze' shrugs, and continues to sniff around looking for anything that looks out of place for a mage shop int his district.

Addressing the old hag, "Where you say you come from?"

[ooc]sense motive] 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
[ooc]perception] 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4

Kaze' found the delights of the shop interesting. While Gotas kept the old lady engaged he wandered about, not quite touching anything, but trying to get a feel for the place.

Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Spellcraft 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Sense Motive 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Who said unit 4 is solo?

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4

"After you," Kaze' casts detect magic before entering. First day, first assignment, this will be enlightening.

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4

Following the others, Kazi' manages to keep up, barely.

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4

"The roofs? You find it safer to avoid falling rather than just avoiding dark alleys?"

Actually sounds like a good idea, until everyone else decides it's a good idea...

Kaze' starts checking out the roof tops, looking at how the buildings and roofs are designed, how close they are to each other. It's obvious he is contemplating how difficult it would be to make one's way through the city without touching the street.

"So what are we looking for in these magic shops? I doubt they will be keeping the soul jars in the display case. And I have a feeling casting any spell inside such an establishment might have... unintended results, even to detect the magical aura's."

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4

Following the others, Kaze' is content to listen to the small talk while keeping an eye to their route through the ward. Since they are checking magic shops, he also takes the time to mentally consider his inventory and if he needs to stock up on anything, maybe some more eye of newt...

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4, Guardhouse

"Don't look at me, I just got here. And I'm reconsidering that thought process based on the lack of leadership I've seen so far."

Kaze' just shakes his head and stands by the door, quietly tapping one foot. "any time peeps..."

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4, Guardhouse

"After you, m'lady." Kaze' sweeps an arm forward to the door, "to the Slippery Toad it is."

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4, Guardhouse

"marco?"

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Unit 4, Guardhouse

"So... do we know where to go, and is there anything else we are waiting for?"

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Guardhouse, Unit 4

Kave nods greetings to the fourth and fifth members of the group. "I 'spect that any magical crafters in this neighborhood will have either very poorly crafted wares or wares they would want the watch to be the last to know about. I have only recently arrived and know not my way around. So I will follow where another leads. For now."

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Guardhouse, U4

Kaze' nods in agreement with Gotas, "from what I heard, patrolling isn't... healthy. Nor do I expect that many of the residents here would be inclined to call for the watch, so what exactly are we doing?"

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Guardhouse, Unit 4

Kaze' listens to his extremely brief orientation, "um, thanks, I'll get right on that." He takes the proffered codicil and shoves it into his haversack, ignoring any comments about it being a wardroom copy. Followed by his badge, he's heard enough stories to know wearing it in open is suicidal.

"Right, minimize physical damage... and... what are we doing? Looking for a mage crafter?" Kaze' looks between Kirel and Gotas. "Love potions? Those always seem to get someone in trouble."

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

"Interesting that we are grouped together... I am inclined to conjurations, you?"

While talking to his two companions, Kaze' keeps an eye on the front door while checking the room for other exits.

"I was just assigned and have not been provided an orientation, or other instructions. How does this Ward operate?"

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Guardhouse, Unit 4

Kazekage gives Kirel a close look, noting the lack of visible weapons, the plain and simple clothing, "Which one are you, Gotas, or Kirel? What can i do... Now that is the question we all face, is it not?"

Kaze' gives her a moment before giving her a short bow, "I generally style myself as a dabbler of the arcane arts, a purveyor of mysteries, finder of secrets, and seeker of lore. And you?"

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Guardhouse, Unit 4

Nodding to the captain, Kaze' follows Gotas out of the office and stands a couple of steps behind him as he asks Shyfty-eye about a temple or caster.

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

GUARDHOUSE

Kazekage stares at the captain, wondering how long it can take to look at one sheet of parchment, it's not like this posting was something people generally wanted to be sent to.

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

GUARDHOUSE

Nodding to shifty-eye, Kaze' walks into the Captain's office. "Reporting, as ordered."

Kazekage takes a moment to study the office, its appearance would reveal much about the occupier, and what manner of being they were.

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

Guardhouse

It is time's like this where I wonder at the wisdom of my ancestors, may they rot under the sun. Nothing else but to get this over with.

Shrugging the straps of his pack, Kaze' pulls the hood of his cloak close and walks up to the guardhouse, and ducks inside.

The short creature stands still, allowing those in the room to take their fill of him as he looks back keenly checking out the other occupants as well. With his cloak draped over his shoulders and pulled low over his face, only that he is of a shorter race is obvious.

Stepping to one side after entering, Kaze' gives himself a moment to let his eyes adjust to the dimmer interior before walking up to the desk and tossing a rolled parchment up onto the bench. the hand that stretched from the folds of the cloak was a deep color of purpled black. A quick eye might catch the raised beading of several stylized scars running across the back of his hand before it disappears back into the folds of his cloak.

"I was instructed to report for duty at this location. My orders are there."

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

So...

What's the relationship between the discussion thread and the gameplay thread for this game?

Oh, and Kazekage is standing outside the guardhouse watching the entrance, and for anyone else watching the entrance.

Wayang Noble Rogue 2 / Wizard 3

I'm ready as well.

I do believe that this character is ready for action!

What languages are common, uncommon, not in existance from Pathfinder norm?

This looks like fun. I'd like to borrow from the drow noble and present the Wayang Elite.

Spoiler:

Total RP=20, so one side of the gestalt will be -1 level.

Humanoid (Wayang) (0 RP)
Humanoid races have few or no supernatural or spell-like abilities, but most can speak and have well-developed societies. Humanoids are usually Small or Medium, unless they have the giant subtype, in which case they are Large. Every humanoid creature also has a subtype to match its race, such as human, giant, goblinoid, reptilian, or tengu. If you are making a new humanoid race, you should either find an existing subtype to match or make a new one by using the name of the race as the subtype. If you are making a half-breed race, it should have the racial type of both parent races. For example, a half-elf has both the human and the elfsubtypes. Subtypes are often important to qualify for other racial abilities and feats. If a humanoid has a racial subtype, it is considered a member of that race in the case of race prerequisites.
A humanoid race has the following features:
Humanoids breathe, eat, and sleep.

Small (0 RP)
Small races gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty on combat maneuver checks and to theirCMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks. Small races have a space of 5 feet by 5 feet and a reach of 5 feet.

Normal Speed (0 RP)
The race has a base speed of 30 feet.

Advanced (4 RP)
Prerequisites: Advanced or monstrous power level.
Modifiers: Pick either mental or physical ability scores. Members of this race gain a +2 bonus to all of those scores, a +4 bonus to one score of the other type, and a –2 penalty to one other ability score of the other type.
(+2 STR, DEX, CON, +4 INT, -2 WIS)

Standard (0 RP)
Members of this race start with Common plus their racial language (if any). Furthermore, choose up to seven languages (except for Druidic or other secret languages). Members of this race with high Intelligence scores can choose from any of these additional languages.

Defense Racial Traits

Spell Resistance, Greater (3 RP)

Prerequisites: None.
Benefit: Members of this race gain spell resistance equal to 11 + their character level.
Feat and Skill Racial Traits

Gift of Tongues (2 RP)
Prerequisites: Standard or linguist language quality.
Benefit: Members of this race gain a +1 racial bonus on Bluff and Diplomacy checks, and they learn one additional language every time they put a rank in the Linguistics skill.

Skill Bonus (4 RP)
Prerequisites: None.
Benefits: Pick a single skill. Members of this race gain a +2 racial bonus on skill checks made with this skill. Alternatively, pick two related skills—each member of this race gains a +1 racial bonus on these skills during character creation.
Special: This trait can be taken up to three times. Each time it is taken, choose a different skill (+2 bonus) or two different skills (+1 bonus on one of character's choice).
(Perception and Stealth)

Magical Racial Traits

Shadow Magic (2 RP)
Prerequisites: None.
Benefit: Members of this race add +1 to the DC of any saving throws against spells of the shadow subschool that they cast. Members of this race with a Charisma score of 11 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities (the caster level is equal to the user's character level):
1/day—ghost sound, pass without trace, ventriloquism
Senses Racial Traits

See in Darkness (4 RP)
Prerequisites: None.
Benefit: Members of this race can see perfectly in darkness of any kind, including that created by spells such as deeper darkness.

Other Racial Traits

Light and Dark (1 RP)
Prerequisites: None.
Benefit: Members of this race gain the following supernatural ability: Once per day as an immediate action, a member of this race can treat positive and negative energies as if it were an undead creature, taking damage from positive energy and healing damage from negative energy. This ability lasts for 1 minute once activated.

And other than gestalt, I think I will keep things easy with a wizard/rogue.

Premise being him growing up in Chance. He's taken a job with the watch because he believes that the mystery behind the death of his parents, and his birth right can be found somewhere in the Warrens.

for those that made it, gl.

The chatter from the adjacent cell was interesting enough for Kazekage to stop playing with the humans in his own cell. Cocking his head slightly to one side, he listened intently.

I await my own sign to come, but is it now? Hoping down from his perch on the end of the bunk, he walked over to the wall nearest the discussion. The other occupants of the cell parting and moving around him to maintain their own distance from him.

How would a fantasy prison work? It seems that with the widespread availability of magic of some sort, that building entire prison complexes (or dungeons) with antimagic fields would be prohibitively expensive. High level spells to protect against many low level casters? Consider that in any given large city there are going to be hundreds of individuals that have some innate casting ability. And enough of them are going to be criminals, or spend time in jail to make it a real issue. Especially when you think that the royal palace doesn't have an area affect antimagic field. There may be certain rooms that are anchored to eliminate teleportation.
Cheaper, maybe, to cover the walls in lead shielding. While this means getting in and out with magic is harder, use of magic inside is not restricted. Of course, anyone that uses magic in prison might find themselves in solitary confinement, in a small, lead lined compartment. But really, is having magic so much more than having claws, tentacles, or other mundane advantages? How do you keep a Minotaur from just breaking down the door? Or a rogue from picking the lock? It's not as much the immediate protection, but the overall system. And if the prisoners are higher level, then it may be that certain types of prisoners are kept in different areas.
If that mage with teleport keeps leaving, have the local wizard academy lock him up. The Temple of Asmodius will happily incarcerate a cleric that has violated some law...

Looking forward to this, gl to all.

Background:

The small creature sat on a corner of one of the beds in the cell, Its dark skin seemed to absorb the light into it's black coloration, a coloration mottled with slightly less dark areas covering the creature's arms in scars. The scars almost seemed to be some iconographic language, but not one easily identified or read.

It was interesting to note that int he crowded cell, this creature enjoyed a wide space around it. Standing outside this space several dregs of society cowered as they watched the creature silently carve another symbol into the back of it's hand. Several recently healing scars revealed this to not be a new activity, nor did the pool of dried blood on the floor under the creature.

Tales of the carnage this slight creature had wreaked over the course of only a few days time had preceded it into prison. Several banks had been robbed, only some of the money had been recovered, and that had been used as a diversion when the creature threw the money into a crowd as it fled before the city patrol. Only hours later several mansions erupted into flames and burned to the ground. Eye witnesses had been plenty to identify the unusual creature as the culprit. With the city guard out in force, the creature continued to elude them until after it had collapsed several city wells, rusted all the swords and armor in one armory, and allegedly released all the dogs from the city pound. Similar activities occurred in various parts of the city over the course of the next week.

Having eluded the patrol for days, with the city recovering from the chaos caused by one elusive creature, it finally stopped as suddenly as it began. One morning, a chief magistrate arrived at court to find the creature sitting calmly in the vacant outer office, wearing only a simple black robe.

During it's 'capture' and trial the creature had remained silent even through the imposition of its sentencing. That was six years earlier. The only reason the sentence had not been death was the surprising realization that no lives had been lost.

Its thoughts kept to itself, it waited for another day to end. It has been too many years since I saw home in Tian Xia. Does the Imperial Emperor still rule? I certainly hope so, or my quest is over before it has even begun. If the prophecy was true, then my time is shortly coming. The creature finished it's carving and looked up at one of the humans, tilting it's head slightly to one side, and gave the human a grim smile and simply nodded. Nobody here knew it, but his name was Kazekage, and he had not spoken anything more than the few incantations that had been needed to establish his alpha status. The human jerked slightly to find those cold eyes focused on him, before turning and dipping a cup of water into the basin in the corner and bringing it to the dark creature, a trembling hand held out to offer the cup. It still surprises me how easily these humans are cowed, this would never happen in Tian Xia, even the criminals there have more backbone!

Kazekage calmly sipped the water before nodding dismissal and reflecting on whether his spellbook was still safely hidden after all these years.

crunch:

A partial set for interest.
Race: Wayang
Class: Wizard (probably Transmutation:Teleportation)
Alignment: probably neutral evil, if evil isn't liked, then lawful evil (he follows his own code, not that of Absolom)
