I went back and checked our mission briefing. It was originally described as a 'creation pattern.' Maybe it's not the same type of thing as the metal plate schema we found in the sewers.

Inspire courage. Don't forget your +1s on attack and damage rolls, or the +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects. Too bad it won't help against ghoul attacks.

Behind the front row, Karsh'e holds his heavy blade ready and starts a chant ....

Inspire Courage (Su): A bard can use his performance to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard's performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. Inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance.

Karsh'e stands with his falchion balanced across his shoulder. The weight of the heavy blade keeps the hand on its pommel effortlessly elevated. A single shrug of his shoulder and lowering of his hand will drop the falchion into guard position. He's ready , but doesn't step forward immediately. He knows Escher and Ayla will dispatch the creature more quickly than he could. He can help in other ways.

Not a lot of width in the corridor. Karsh'e will be in the second rank and be ready to inspire courage.

Uthred the Grower faced a terrible fire-dragon in the mountains east of the Shadowlands. For years Uhtred's people had knwon of the dragon, but it seldom came to their lands. Then in the summer after the Great Wave submerged Oystertown, the dragon began raiding the villages in Uthred's valley..."

The +1 longsword's no better than Usgar's magic claws, but I don't think Karsh'e knows that yet. If Usgar declines, he'll offer the sword to the party at large.
Choose to listen to the story and Karsh'e will cast heroism on Usgar and Fizfiz. Basically +2 to everything.

I don't remember exactly how living spells work, and maybe never did. I do remember them being a pain in the butt.
I imagine dispel magic would also hurt it.
Most of us are straight damage dealers. It probably has some kind of DR or regeneration, but Usgar, Escher and Ayla are pretty heavy hitters.

Do we want this fight? Right now I don't see a way to open the other doors. Maybe our next key is hiding in the room at the end of the living spell's hall.

A smile widens around his protruding canine. "But I'm sure there'll be enemies enough somewhere."

After glancing at the linens, Karsh'e spins on his heel. "Shall we see if Usgar's blue key fits the other slots?"

Nice description
Karsh'e steps forward. "Usgar! How are you here?!"

The half-orc still doesn't have a proper cloak, but he still has a wide, conical straw hat and rough homespun clothes that hang from his limbs. His plain leather vest looks stout enough. Could it be a piece of hide turned inside out? A knife rests in a horizontal sheath across his belly; it's supported by his rope belt is knotted at his left hip. TThe longsword at his waist and the falchion on his back are new.

Missing is Karsh'e's giant pack. Left with the cart above.

The half-orc's features are almost mild enough to pass for human, and his long, lush hair supports the inference, but a prominent lower left canine that just slips out from under his upper lip, and a faint greenish tinge to his skin, barely discernible in the gloom of the tunnel, proclaim a different ancestry.
