Kari's eyes narrow at the Haf's statement that he is no longer a child, and his curious glance at his father and the color in his cheeks suggests... Could there have been a woman willing to harm a child in the camp? "Duma," Kari whispers. "There are more to a man than 'is prick, child," she informs Haf, her amber eyes hard. She glances at his father, the blubbering woman. "Ye cannae help yer example of one be poor." Shaking her head with disgust, Kari joins Aedon. Kari frowns at Haf's statement. "I dinnae harm children," she says, and rises to her feet. "If ye've the breath ta question mine honor, ye can attend yerself." She plays with the bone like pin in her hair while Rufus lords over the altercation, and bites her lower lip. How like Artyom he seemed, and Kari passive as she was then. Flirtation and satire were clearly the wrong tools to employ with one unfamiliar with radical freedom. A loose thought skitters across her mind of carrying on ahead while he shrieks at Aedon and slipping into the camp alone. She entertains it a moment more, considering what manner of valuable information she might learn if she were allowed to continue alone, but considers the fate of Celeste. Without healing magics, it was far more likely she'd simply suffer. Observe and report. "Milord, beggin' yer pardon," Kari interjects rolling her shoulders and gripping the hilt of her sickle. "Ye are speakin' from yer arse, and it be an awful stench. The boy and his stick left track a horse could follow. Best askin' 'em what it were tha' so distracted their van tha they coul' be away." Kari pulls her sickle and stands with her legs shoulder width apart, glancing up at the trees. "Also, ours weren't the first arrow, and that dinnae strike this man and his child. "But if it please ye, speak longer on the horses and what ye will do whilst us little folk ponder what is already amongst us."

Paranoid? Definitely. Schizophrenic? Nope. Kari remains beside the boy, fixing Rufus with a frosty glare when he speaks to her. The child had been carrying a stick and a crossbow. She did not understand why the pair had not run when her spell was meant to frighten them away. As Gizsmith restores the boy's health, she caresses his cheeks, hoping to see color blossom on them again. Kari untrained Sing 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 As the others move to interrogate the blubbering bastard, Kari leans in to the boy's ear and begins singing an festival song in Hallit. The content is as tame as she recalled the couples blushing as they touched hands during the dances being, so long ago when she was only a child of sin. As she sings, she weaves Prestidigitation and removes the blood from his hair, skin, and clothing.

Kari clenches her teeth and smacks the father over the head with all the might her small body and balanced center of gravity can muster. "BASTARD!" she cries shrilly. "YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED!" Fuming, Kari stomps over to the boy, pausing to touch Rufus's hip gently before kneeling down beside the prone child. Her face is stony as she looks at the blood leaking from him, wetting the ground.

Kari withholds a shriek as one of the two persons neither had time to identify falls to the ground, lethal arrows and bolts sprouting from his body. Am I the only who will not kill a sentient creature on sight? she ponders and frowns. Rufus makes a mad dash past her, in a blur. Kari shakes her head and moves forward to flank, but instead of pulling her weapon, raises her hand. "Easy now, lad," she soothes. "Consider yer mate there, all stuck with arrows as he is," she says, pain in her eyes. "If ye take swing, if ye hit, ye will be done. Kari's heart beat seems to still and her vision narrows on important details as the bandits come into view. The stick the furthest carries is not such a great threat, though she certainly would not appreciate a broken rib, however the scabbard at the nearest's hip frightens her. Mortifying flesh- And an arrow she thinks as the small projectile lands, and seems just as surprised as its intended targets. Kari smirks and raises her hands to hide her face, then when she withdraws them, traces a vision of a twisted faun over her features, one of its curled ram's horns broken and the other wet with gore. Its eyes are unmatched, one a putrid yellow and the other like looking into the black of night. Scars in Giant runes adorn its gaunt face and she licks at elongated canines as though hungry for human flesh. Linguistics, or Giant:

Kari glances back at Aedon, then hearing the movement ahead of them, presses a finger to her lips. She mimes a figure walking, then points to a shrub near inviting Aedon to hide, then dashes to do the same herself. Oh, yes, it could well be a bandit poised to run into the three very mean and heavily armed bastards she had stalked away from, but the possibility that it might not be, but an animal that might, when startled, harm Kari's very ripe flesh is also quite high. When Lyster laughs at her, her head immediately spins around and she glares at him. "It were men like you hung me in the gallows, violated me and left me to sh*t myself and madness," she growls. "You WILL NOT laugh at my expense again," she snaps, her expression almost feral. Kari Intimidate 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 Fuming, Kari dismounts Pan. Her fingers curl several times near where her sickle hangs on her belt, and her spine is rigid as she jerkily pulls her flute case from the assortment of items on Pan's back. She pulls the instrument from its leather and flings it elsewhere, revealing a crudely cut wood flute carved with what appears to be flowering vines, and kneels at the base of the tree. Sylvan:
"With this, our apologies for not arranging a proper tribute to you, little ones." Kari rises, rolls her neck, snapping several points of tension audibly and refuses to meet eyes. "I will walk from here," she announces before stepping away.

But you might," she teases at the last. Kari winks at Rufus as he completes his examination, and begins speaking the words for Prestidigitation, creating a crystaline looking object in the shape of a thin tuning fork which she uses to pin her plaits of trophies up with the remainder of her braids and knots so they do not obscure her vision or, jumping a few times, jangle when she moves. She has no problem with someone with better sense arranging the pile of tools, tent and other essentials she has on Pan. "Jus' dinnae put mah ammunition where I cannae reach," she purrs. "What are we ta say, lads?" she inquires. "Ye war-like men, save fer yerself, my chromatic foil," she nods to Gizsmith, "are like only ta arouse suspicions, as it were." Kari traces the line of her lips with a fingertip. "Shall I stroll into the camp and claim the magnanimous, lordly and lusty Happs spanked mine bottom fair and pointed me in yon direction to enlist aide against an unknown foe?" she tries. "Say the gettin' at Oleg's be prolonged on account of seige, having met a superior force with dragons," Kari's eyes were alight. "Else some horribly cruel sorcerer," she nods to Rufus and giggles. She flings the pan pipes away from the camp, then casts Prestidigitation to clear the poo smell from herself, shrouding herself in the scent of lavender, and while she continues to concentrate on the spell, gives herself stripes on her face, and in her hair like a tiger as she dashes back into her tent to dress. Kari returns, having dressed, and sits with her striped palms resting on her knees. "We will be walking very near an established base," Kari hums, her expression mottled by tiger stripes across her face. "Might be best to assume that the lads would have trapped it, first. Sounds reasonable to me. She would set it a good ways away from the potable water, to keep wandering monsters from roaming through. Kari slows when she registers that the light is beginning to fail, and rather than keep the trail, begins searching for a location to camp. Running water makes bathing an option, one she considers bringing to the attention of the lads, but provides a great deal of danger as well. She asks whoever is willing to gather firewood while she digs a pit in the earth to build it so the flames will not be so visable, making sure to make the pit wide enough so that lack of air does not choke the flames. A second hole for the latrine is dug twenty feet from the clearing, well within the light source. "My apologies, gents, but I dinnae believe ye woul' like ta meet the tall lads in the dark while ye do yer business. Hae nae fears fra my chastity. If I thought yon Salvator coul' stomach the shame, I'da dropt trou 'fore ye, passed wind and spat too," she jokes and grins. There's only one backstabbing slut in this kingdom, and it's gonna be me! Wait.. wait, allow me to rephrase that... As I recall from the rules, there's still prostitution if you don't have brothels, it just isn't regulated, which means girls get hurt etc etc. It's the one aspect of the economy and society that Kari will take a really active interest in. Just like we can't all grow up to be president and someone has to pick up the garbage and dig ditches, there are some girls who won't ever be bards, but that doesn't mean they should be treated like crap. I view Kari's CN as she has nothing driving her to be actively good. Clerics have gods with dogmas they need to appease to keep their status. Kari's just a bard. She hates bad guys, and will avoid being deliberately evil (keeping her lets torture these POSs as thoughts in her head and not actively indulging them). Maybe she'll find some reason to be good. Kari feels nothing for the others when she plants their gruesome blooms on the wall, nor when she watches what remains burn on the pyre. They are the lucky ones - dead in an instant, not left to rot for days, subject to molestation from every ignorant, impotent, piece of filth society protected. Kari glances Aedon's way when he leaves the pyre. With the rain, and their precautions, it is highly unlikely that the fire will spread to do any damage to any structure nearby. Hallit:
"I will meet you in your Hell, you bastards," she hisses when Aedon has gone. Back inside the shelter of the walls, Kari removes her leather armor, and begins picking through what remains of the bandits things, looking for the least well tended set, physically gripping the armors and rending them between her two fists to check how much noise the leather makes. The least creaky she grins over and adds her brand new set to the pile. She listens to Aedon's proposition and rises, her feminine curves highlighted by the lack of armor and any particular decorum or desire to wear anything between her skin and the leather than her tunic. "Aye. With Mikhail gone, I've no reason to stay on here," she says and shrugs into the battered armor she has claimed. She looks to the skies and attempts to gauge when the weather will be more favorable Survival check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19.

Aye, i know this as a player but the demonstration we were all present at as characters suggests that straying from our regent's charter is going to be punished. severely. meet the new bandits indeed. i recommend setting up our own trade union and slowly leaching business from Oleg, establishing a monopoly and controlling the price of every good in the area by offering ours at an extremely low price. hehehe. CN and intelligent. :)

we're brevoyans, though, here on a charter to establish brevoy's rule of law. not River Kingdoms folk. unless we're all agreeing to ditch the charter this early in... 'course, Kari, being a bandit herself is all too eager to ditch the gov't. FIGHT THE POWAH!

Kari chuckles at Oleg's suggestion. "How Avant-garde," she compliments and tips her rain soaked head to her host's wish. "Unfortunately, it is also incredibly silly. The stench will attract predators and carrion eaters, who might just as well assume that they'll find something equally tasty within. And there is the issue of pest," she adds sourly. Kari stretches and smooths mud off her slim body with her hands, not quite preening for their elder host. If she were about to watch men who could be her fellows die, she would not looking like she had taken the odd tumble in the glades with Duma. The thought of her former lover excites her for a brief moment, but ultimately leads to thoughts of her former band and the days she spent starving in the gallows. Her countenance turns to stone, and she spins on her heel and marches from the shelter to complete the task she set for herself.

"Satire is a difficult art to perfect," Kari says to Salvator and smiles brilliantly. "I care not for the gear, myself," she agrees with Rufus, then looks to Aedon, and continues in Giant. Giant: "Might we see if your friend Reijin is truly repentant? I am willing to pay him a wage to carry my share while I keep my bow trained for threats."

Kari narrows her eyes when Rufus volunteers to execute the bandits. Observe and report. Aye, and when these lads go the way of mine on account of Artyom, my luck with the bow will plant me in the ground, too. "Listen, you, false idol," she says to Rufus, stepping very close to the sword she is sharpening. "You can like fool these bravos, but if there be one thing I know its men. And you can sit here and sharpen your blade and believe yer the only man of sense, yer lordship, and not a one of us could bare the shame of takin' a life well as ye, but ye would be wrong." Kari looks to the collection and scowls. "If ye knew bandits half as well, ye'd take the heads as trophies, and mount them on the palisades. Else when we have gone, our host is like ta suffer greatly." She shakes her head, then rolls her neck to release pressure with several audible 'pops'. "Salvator, and Aedon, might ye help a vulnerable female gather wood ta construct a pyre lest these beasts poison the ground our hostess plants her herbs and potatoes in?"

I don't think that we've done anything that would make us seem like new bandits. We've helped Svetlana and Oleg with the chores they would allow us to, and secured their little hovel. Anyway, it's all about perspective. When we get a larger population, between the two of us bards, I doubt there will be a bad perception of us anywhere, really. History belongs to the victor and bards are great at the editorial process. Rufus could become a living god, heck, even Cayden's avatar if Kari passes her bluff check. Can't wait till fourth level and access to alter self. Watch out, gents, you'll never know whose taggin' ya in the bum!

Kari studies the filth on her hands a moment after Rufus's tirade. It appears at the very least that she will not have to work exceedingly hard to convince him that beating bound prisoners is less than humane. "Have not killed a one," she answers, "but watched my mate beat another ta death for the crime of trying to push his rotten meat in me. Limpin' Pete he were called, and had the hate in his eyes when that stank descended to have his piece. "I hate rapists. Every one. Ain't too great a number of women who will spread their legs as easy as me, but a trinket or some gold change hand, and that is oft enough for most. "What of Celeste's second chance to be a girl who weren't savaged by these beasts?" Kari inquires, her amber eyes holding still to Rufus's. "For that matter, what of Celeste? Hmm? Hale is she? Delivered home by the dapper gents to bury the bones of her father with her own hands?" Kari looks to Gizsmith when he speaks. "Removin' their c*cks makes 'em docile. Removin' their thumbs makes 'em useless. That's just earnin' us five more mouths ta feed that must needs learn to hold a cup. Better their first two fingers."
