Hedge, eager to test out his new gear, charges directly into the pack of snarling hounds. Reaching deep into his repertoire, he decides to try a technique he's never used in combat before, the Horn of the Criosphinx.

Envisioning a criosphinx's horns, Hedge attempts to smash the first dog's skull into the dirt. Failing to make contact, his momentum brings him around and his next attack, an attempted kick, doesn't come near anything that could be considered a target.

He snarls and barks at the dogs around him, his outward aggression a superficial facade to intimidate his foes as he recenters his mind.

By the time another dog is brave enough to attack Hedge feels ready, but when faced with the lightning-fast creature he finds he's still unable to connect.

Hedge looks over at the druid. "You have means to soothe animals, correct?" He glances back at the woods. "We should lend aid either way, even if only to end suffering."

Hedge hasn't had a chance to ride horses often, but he seems to have a talent for it. If the group comes across a relatively dry-ish, safe-looking straightaway, he wants to challenge the group to a friendly race. (Although it doesn't seem a dry straightaway is likely.)

The barmaid rushes away before Hedge has a chance to process her confusion. He is considering a second approach when he hears Akivar calling out. Glancing over, he see the group looking ready to move on.

Hedge swallows his pride and returns to the group, picking up and downing the remains of his drink in order to avoid eye contact.

"I'm ready." he mutters. "What's the plan?"

Hedge doesn't overlook the eager anticipation on his companion's faces. It's the same look the younger monks would have when they were trying to play a prank on one of the elders. At the same time, the advice given seemed honest - they just expected him to screw up.

It wasn't a bad expectation, as he has seen only a small handful of women in his life, and has never spoken to a woman casually.

He watches the barmaid for a moment before choosing a means of approach, intercepting her on her way to the kitchen where he could speak to her without people easily overhearing.

"Excuse me, miss?" He does his best to keep his voice low and firm; not too loud, but not as timid as the butterflies in his stomach made him feel. "I find you very attractive and, if it is not too forward of me, I was hoping we might be able to spend some time alone together after your work is done today."

Hedge is lost in his own world, sneaking glances at the few women in the crowd.

His renwu, as assigned by Grandmaster Fon, was to experience a life outside the monastery before committing his final vows. In the monastery he lived a life in service to knowledge and perfection of self, and so he gravitated towards those serving others and working to perfect their community.

However, his recent brush with death and his brash new companions reminded of all the small pleasures and indulgences that he had been eschewing. If he was to truly understand his companions and this life, perhaps he needed to relax and really live the adventurer's life.

There is one particular indulgence that fascinates and terrifies him. He tries to focus on the group's sleuthing, but his attention keeps being drawn back to the curve of that one barmaid's backside.

He leans over to Akivar and whispers "How would I go about soliciting a prostitute?"

Hedge throws a few punches and a kick at his foe, hoping to distract the aasimar from whatever his friend is about to do. He then then leaps back, out of the potential blast radius.

Hedge realizes what is bothering him about the demon - the lack of sound in its flight - a moment before his true foes appear and all hell breaks lose.

"The demon is an illusion!" he cries out. He is about to explain that the two women in the tower are the real enemy, but no words come after Nadesico is impaled before him.

Despite the wave of positive and negative enchantments that washes over him, Hedge maintains his focus and springs into action, leaping towards the wall and then bounding off, using his extra momentum to deliver fists of fury direct to the demon-clawed aasimar.

Hedge starts to head over to examine the footprints when the catfolk girl speaks up. "The holes, the cracks, and the parts of the tower that are just completely missing should let in a lot of light during the day. We can explore this tinderbox by torchlight if you wish, but I still vote for recognisance, rest, and daylight."

He grins at Nadesico and adds "Of course, the wisest course of action rarely makes for a good story." He then sets off to examine Trenna's find and scan as much of the tower's perimeter and surroundings as he can before the group decides on a direction.

Hedge listens and tries to connect the pieces. He recognizes Xanesha as the greater threat, but his mind returns to the Lord Mayor's offhand mention of the Red Mantis.

Hedge lands and sees his quarry tormenting a motley group who appeared to be armed. Praying that the enemy of his enemy was his friend, Hedge nimbly dances into a flanking position and attempts to stun his foe.
