Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

mwbeeler, that was awesome. Thanks for such a fitting, and memorable exit. I don't feel as bad for bailing now.

Too everyone else, it has been a pleasure gaming with everyone of you, and it has been great seeing your heartfelt reactions to Harven's demise. I would love the opportunity to game with any of you at some future stage.

Good luck with the rest of the campaign, I know it will be a blast, and I'll probably continue at least keep an eye on it as you go.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

OK. What am I looking at? Search (1d20+1=16)

I don't actually have any ranks in search. Focusing on wilderness etc skills.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Sorry I have been a bit slack the last couple of days guys, I'm sure you can all appreciate how hectic Christmas can be.

Initiative 16

So I see we choose fight? OK then, let's roll!

Seeing Terin charge into the room, Harven will follow and move just to the side of the door (to E4) and take a shot at the "man"

Hit AC 18 for 3 damage.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven gratefully grabs the rope and scrambles of of the rather deep water. "Thanks mate, I sure am glad to be out of that muck"

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven spends most of his time hunting through the rubble and what not. He pulls out the bronze crowbar, "Sean, you lot your crowbar earlier didn't you, well, I found you a new one."

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

"OK, sounds like a plan. If you guys (motions to those still standing) want to bring them (motions to those who are paralysed), I'll duck in and check the room out."

Spot Check (1d20+8=16)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Seeing his final shot finally force the blob to disintegrate, Harven lets out an exclamation of "YES!" accompanied by a fist pump. He then rushes to Eldin's side, grabs his wand and asks the other memebers "Can anyone actually use this thing?"

Assuming no one volunteers, "OK, I'll suppose I'll give it a shot." Drawing on all his past knowledge and training at the hands of his mentor, he focuses for a moment, and then recalling the command word Eldin used earlier, he gives it a shot. "Here goes nothing" and to the surprise of all (himself included), he actually gets the wand to work, healing Eldin for 6 hit points.

"Wow, I can't believe that actually worked. Cool." He then moves over to Terin and Tyndal, and hits each of them with a shot from the wand as well (assuming they look like they actually need it).

Rangers can use wands of CLW, didn't realise until I was trying to work out how to get our healer(s) up and running again. Healed Terin for 3 hitpoints and Tyndal for 6

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Seeing the effect his companions are having on the "creature" with their spells, Harven does the only thing he can. Shoot it. Again. But even though he can't tell if it is doing any damage, the least he can do is distract it from the spellcasters and give them time to finish it off.

With a mighty roar (that probably sounds more like a high - pitched scream to the rest of the party), he darts towards the creature, trying to draw it's attention, before retreating to the safety of the corner. He turns around and fires an arrow, burying it withing the creature.

Attack Roll (1d20+8=16)
Damage (1d4=2, 1d6=1)
Tumble check to avoid AoO (if needed) (1d20+9=20)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Sorry, in the middle of 6 exams in 2 weeks. No, its not as bad as it sounds, its actually worse :)

Harven right about now wishes he had bought some Alchemists fire or Acid vials with him. But with no other viable options really, he takes aim again with his bow. He moves back along the wall, looking for an opening, before firing at the blob.

Attack Roll (1d20+8=18)
Damage (1d4=3, 1d6=1)

Seeing his arrows simply bury themselves in the blob, he wonders if he is actually doing any damage at all?

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Well, that quickly went pear-shaped. Now I can see why you actually offered suggestions on retrieving the body :) We'll have to be more wary of your "help" in the future.

Loosening his Bow, and drawing an arrow, Harven moves along the wall, (to E10) seeking a clear line of sight to the creature, before dropping to one knee and loosing his arrow.

Hit AC 11, probably not good enough :). But if it is, he does 2 damage. Wow, minimum damage.

He inspects the creature, seeking any information at all about it.

Knowledge (nature) (1d20+6=8)
Knowledge (Dungeoneering) (1d20+4=21)

At least I got one decent roll out of all them

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

I return to my companions "It seems we have been noticed. Must have just missed them blowing out the candle, and I think they are barricading themselves behind the door just a few feet across the room. Well, I heard something heavy scrape against the back of the door, I assume it is a barricade. Breaking down doors is not my forte"

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

"Good idea Terin. I'll move ahead and check it out, if you guys could stay reasonably close in case I get find trouble, as seems likely."

Harven moves off into the darkness. On reaching the door, he pauses to allow the party to catch up. "You guys stay here, I'll duck in and check it out. If you hear me call out, it means somethings wrong, so come running. Should be back in a couple." With that he slips off silently.

Listen, Spot (1d20+8=20, 1d20+8=11)
Hide (1d20+17=34)
Move Silently (1d20+13=33)

Wow, they are some rolls. If I get spotted, we are in some trouble.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Sorry, didn't realise it was back to me, that was a very fast round.

Harven crosses to the corner on the other side of the door, turning as he gets there to launch an arrow at the rat beast Sean shot with his ray of ice. The arrow slams into the beast, for 6 Damage.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven was hiding in the corner furthest from the door this new monstrosity burst through. He spring forward, racing along the side of the room to the corner next to the door. Taking his new position, he launches an arrow at the creature.

Hit AC 11, for 5 damage.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

"Thanks for patching me up back there. I'll move ahead and check it out. You guys stay here." gives me chance to actually get some peace and quiet. "Yeah, I can see in the dark, so it would be great if you could keep those light sources from silhouetting my position. See you soon."

With that he slips off into the dark. Searching the main tunnel for about 100 feet. Obviously returning earlier if I actually find anything.

Hide (1d20+16=35)
Move Silently (1d20+12=14)
Listen (1d20+7=23)
Spot (1d20+7=19)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

"Thanks for pulling me to safety back there guys."

"Which way should we go? If you want I can scout ahead of the group. Just make sure that you don't silhouette me with those lanterns."

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Reflex Save (1d20+7=14), Damage (1d6=4)
Will Save (1d20+1=6)

The force of the explosion hurls the small gnome across the room, and he slams into a stack of crates, and slumps to the floor, stunned by the force of the blast.

Luckily, I shouldn't be to burdensome to carry :)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven also followed Anders.

Fu@k! That filthy disgusting wretch from the alley, Rosk, is here, guys and he left this puddle sometime after we entered the building. I sense a betrayal and some hard times soon to come. Be ready!

Is there any tracks I can follow(say wet, slimy footprints?)? If so Survival= 5!!!! If no tracks I want to do a scan of the immediate area, Spot=20.

We need to find him immediately and deal with whatever ramifications come with his appearance! Search the whole building if we have to.

Harven quickly gets to following Terin's lead.

Eldin Farstrider wrote:

Once inside the compound, Eldin looks around the desolate yard, seeking out their elusive gnomish companion, or any sign of the rest of the group.

“I would suppose they headed that way,” he says to Anders, indicating the open door of the warehouse building with a nod of his head.

“Now, from what I have gleaned from the gate guards, Vanthus and his companions have been within this compound lately – and have not emerged, at least not through the front gates. Workers have also been disappearing lately – the guards fear sewer monsters, but I am wondering if they may not have fallen afoul of this smuggling ring we suspect Vanthus to be funding.”

Harven appears to almost materialize right out of the shadows in front of you. "Sounds likely" he says in response to Eldin. "This Vanthus character sounds capable of anything really. Let's go." As he heads off towards the warehouse.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Having successfully crept inside, Harven will try to find a hiding spot within sight of the door, waiting for his companions to make their way in.

G'mork wrote:

Let me know which you'd rather do, over or through, because my attempt was a miserable failure, and I hate penalizing you for my crappy rolling ;)

Go ahead and keep the silent and hide rolls though, and I’ll make a set of spot checks from the twins.

Harven trusts more to his stealth ability than to his climbing ability, and so would attempt to go through, rather than over (especially given his difficulty in climbing aboard the ship earlier).

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven, seizing the opportunity, attempts to sneak into the compound while the guards are distracted. Once inside, he will try to find a position where he can get Eldin's attention without alerting the guards.

Hide (1d20+16=17)
Move Silently (1d20+12=28)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Eldin leaves. And Anders leaves. Harven is left on his own.

As Eldinn engages the guards in conversation, Harven attempts to stealthily move closer. Both to hear the conversation better, and also to judge if he could sneak his way in.

Hide (1d20+16=27)
Move Silently (1d20+12=16)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven also remains behind with the priest of Fharlanghn, figuring that he would look even more out of place than the priest.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

"Good idea Terin. No better place to hide than that which you know well.

Although I would like to check out Prrot Island as well, if the birdlife is as good as you suggest."

This leads me to believe that his boat has been built to be used within smuggler’s tunnels – does anyone know of anything like that anywhere in or near the city?

“We also known that he’s been most recently seen in Shadowshore and the Merchant District, and that he has been in the company of a man named Penkus.

“We also have Terin’s foot fetishist friend who claims to know where he is.

“The way I see it, we can either ask around further – probably within the Merchant District – as to the whereabouts of Vanthus, Penkus, and / or the Lotus Dragons … which may garner results, but may also draw unwanted attention to ourselves.

“The other option is to take a shoe along – or not – and meet Terin’s friend. What say you all?”

Harven sits there quietly listening to it all and nodding silently. He is willing to go along with whatever the group decides to do. He is still getting used to these big folk, they seem so large and boisterous.

Really just posting to let you guys know I am paying attention and following along. Harven knows he isn't the best with people, and tends to retreat into his shell around new people. It's hard to get thisa cross in a PbP, but I'm he should start coming out of his shell a btit more.

Hummm, a ring of Know Direction.......I'll see if any in the party would like to wear it, and if not I guess I can wear it...it'll save me some work if we head into uncharted regions of the surrounding jungles.

Anyone want to wear the ring? If not Terin wouldn't mind using it for the party, but he doesn't desperately 'need' it.

"I wouldn't mind wearing it. Although, much like you a guess Terin, I don't deperately "need" it, but it would make charting our course easier if we should have need to head into the wilds around here, ... or anywhere else.

I am planning on taking Ranger for the next few levels, and was planning on playing Harven as the scout, tracker, wilderness "expert" and so it would actually be good to have the ring.

Harven whiles away the time eavesdropping intently on the conversations of folk within the inn, though hearing little of substance, and nothing at all regarding Lavinia’s wayward brother (Noble's District is a bust for Vanthus info). His vigil is broken up once by the appearance of Kora, who stops by with a hardy chicken soup for Anders, and a goodly amount of sugared baked goods for Harven.

Again, Harven is not too sure what to make of this, although he readily accepts the sugared baked goods, and enjoys them greatly over the course of his wandering / eavesdropping. Seeing as this is the second time, he does make a mental note to pursue it further should it happen again.

G'mork wrote:

Harven is ready to go when the rest of you are.

Edit: Our illustrious's DM's full post for Anders.

Spoiler:
The two days seem to pass all too quickly for the party:

Eldin visits his resident sanctuary, if there can be such a thing for the meandering clergy, where he uses the pooled funds of the party to obtain a Healing Wand (Wand of Cure Light Wounds, 50 charges, 750 Gold) from his brethren.

Tyndal and Seann join in several drinking contests at the “Ticklish Ogre” tavern in the Merchant District. They find themselves sharing a table with mottled company, and eventually break even on their drink tab thanks to a timely arm wrestling win by Seann. Following the win, one of the Scarlet Brotherhood notices Seann’s hair and eyes and compliments him on his fine Suloise stock. After listening to a drunkenly embellished tale of the shocker lizard, one of the tablemates informs Tyndal should he ever encounter such a beast again, to bring it, or the pelt, by the Zelkarune’s Horns guildhall, as they’d love to see it.

Terin strikes out with the magic shops in the Merchant and Champion’s Districts, though he does find a potion shop with some fair prices now that the travel season is beginning to wane ("Bee in a Bottle," if anyone wants to burn a deeper hole in their pocket).

Fortunately, Anders is able to contact a member of the Witchwardens in the Noble District for a meeting, and after a 100 gold piece donation to the guild, has the unknown ring identified.
“Ah yes, I haven’t seen one of these in quite some time, though they were very popular when the city was founded. Lots of unexplored territory back then, and quite a few rings never returned from their owner’s expeditions. This appears to be the lesser version of a Cartographer’s Band. Hard to get lost, wearing one of these!” (Know Direction effect at all times while worn.)

Kora arrives once more shortly after the dawn of the third day, to notify the party Lavinia’s business has concluded, and she will be ready to receive them as soon as they are organized.

Don't have any specific Shopping I want to do yet. Saving up for a kick-ass bow :)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

A Wand of CLW would be a great idea. Although i would hope you use it very little on me.

I am fine with either name for our company.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) (1d20+3=23) Looks Harven can ID the final creature :)

It is a ......

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

"Ok, Ok, I'm moving, give me a chance. I am a bit hesitant to walk through random doorways at the moment."

None the less, Harven heads into the well lit room.

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven will stealthily move forward, and check out the glass vials, before checking out the alcoves (the left one first). If he doesn't find anything in the vault, he will return to his companions waiting at the door and report what he has (or hasn't), as the case may be, discovered.

If they are needed,
Hide (1d20+16=24)
Move Silently (1d20+12=29)
Listen (1d20+7=20)
Spot (1d20+7=22)

That's some fine rolling, I hope I keep it up

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Looks like it over to Harven to do what he does best

"I'll duck in a scout it out. Stay here and try to keep quiet. I'll give a shout if I get in trouble."

He pauses first to see if he can hear anything. Listen (1d20+7=16). Assuming he doesn't hear anything. Harven then quietly creeps into the Vault. Even though the rest of the party is looking right at him, and not making a sound, you can still only just see him when he moves. Hiding and Moving Silently.

Hide (1d20+16=29)

Before exiting, she leaves a cleaned and pressed article of clothing beside Lavinia.

Harven looks at the second cake, looks at his not at all slight frame, and has no idea what is going on. But enjoys the second cake none the less. They are pretty good after all.

To Lavinia: "You can count me in as ready to offer my assistnace."

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

"I'll come and give you a hand Terin. Although not sure how much brute strength I can give you."

Basically, looking for any excuse at all to avoid the city, full of noisy "big folk" as much as possible, but also genuinely interested in the welfare of the animals, and wanting to check out the park.

I want her to know the whole circle that occurs with a task like this, so she doesn't enter into a course with blinders on.

Harven stand there quietly listening to the "big folk" debate our next course of action. Why do they have to be so loud and boisterous and.... big?

Anyway, when (if?) there is a lull in the conversation, he pipes up with a small, "Yeah, let's leave it to Lavinia to work out. This is afterall her show."

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Not exactly sure who's turn it is, but to save time...

Seeing Eldin climb the ladder to get out of the water, Harven looks around for someway out of the water. Assuming he finds something, he will scramble onto it, before turning and shooting at the lizard. Attack Roll (1d20+8=17), for 4+5=9 Damage

Move Action: Move looking for something above the water line
Standard Action: Shoot the damn Lizard.

Oops, forgot the -4 for shooting into melee. So I suppose that the shot misses then?

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Reflex Save = 13 for Nonlethal Damage = 3 halved for 1

Assuming there is room, Harven will circle around the Lizard, and then fire an arrow. Attack Roll (1d20+8=10), which I assume misses. If not, Damage = 4 + 3 = 7)

Harven continues to skirt around the edge of the Blue Nixie, looking for an opening. He wants to help Terin save the animals below, but knows he would be severely limited in the cramped quarters below deck. He crosses to the other side of the Ship, before turning to fire at Vark.

Attack Roll (1d20+9*=22), even with a -4 for firing into melee, that should be a hit, for 1+3=4 Damage

*7 + 1 from Bless, + 1 from Point blank shot

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven ducks and weaves as he retreats from the massive canine, paying careful attention to keep his guard up. Tumble Check to avoid AoO (1d20+8=24)

He then heads up the stairs, hoping the massive canine won't be able to follow up the stairs. However, he trips as he turns at the top of the stairs to fire at Bark, and his shot flies wide, sailing over the edge of the nixie, and off into the ocean.

Move up the stairs, triggering skirmish, shoot back at Bark. I hope this dog can't climb stairs, or i am stuffed.

Attack Roll (1d20+7=12)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

I know it is not Harven's turn, but to save time...

Harven continues to negotiate the Deck of the Nixie, looking for a nice place with cover that also gives him a nice opening to loose another arrow. Move Action (10 - 30 Feat) to trigger skirmish.

Finding a nice position, he then lets fly with another arrow at one of the thugs. Who is within 30 feet (for PBS & Skirmish) and not in melee

Attack Roll (1d20+8=27) Hit!! for 2+3 = 5 Damage .

Spot Check (1d20+7=17)
Listen Check (1d20+7=24)
"You heard it too huh" he replies to Terrin.

Being small, and unable to really help with the "piloting" of our "vessel" he just tries to stay out of the way in the front of the boat.

He is checking the Blue Nixie for any ropes, etc that could be used to board. Spot Check (1d20+7=16)

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven's Spot Check (1d20+7=22)

Being honest, the plan for stealth basically involved not so much those with a talent at it, but simply those that didn't wear, loud clanking armor. I didn't think it would actually end up being that stealthy.

Since we only have the single boat, we really don't have much choice, but I could try to sneak on board unseen during your opening discussions.
