I'm so excited!

One thing I should probably note is I was eyeing Sphere Singer as a potential Prestige Class for him later. It's not gonna make or break his character concept, but it was definitely a factor in my character creation choices.

I'm so excited! Depending on who gets in we might have quite a pious party!

I've updated Gerinel to fit the recruitment's specifications (brought his stats up to 20 point-buy, got 2 extra skill points, added a drawback and a third trait). I'll repost his backstory and other information here for easy reading:

Description:
Gerinel is a tall, lithe man, garbed in leathers and scarves like many Varisians are, along with a voluminous blue cloak. He has the olive skin-tone typical of his people, as well as colorful Varisian tattoos. His long, dark hair has occasional streaks of blond running through it, and he wears it loose most of the time. At his side are both a longsword and a starknife, while around his neck he wears a wooden amulet of Desna's holy symbol, one that looks like it was split and repaired, with a large crack still visible across it.
Personality:
Gerinel usually tries to make good impressions on anyone he meets, as one never knows who'll they'll be sharing the road with, and it it always pays to make friends. He does, however, not flinch when it comes to standing up against bullies and the cruel, never wanting another innocent to suffer like he had at Gaedren's hands, and a bully with a badge or a uniform is no exception. His faith in Desna is unshakeable, and he is ever grateful for the turns of fate she blesses him with. When bad luck comes his way, he takes it in stride, knowing it is inevitable that his fortune will turn good just as quickly. He also greatly enjoys singing and watching the stars at night.
Background:
Gerinel's childhood was like that of many Varisians and many orphans in Korvosa: a second-class citizen forced to turn to crime just to survive. He barely remembers his parents and the series of uncles, aunts and cousins he bounced around from after their untimely deaths, until he came into the "care" of Gaedren Lamm. Life among the "Little Lamms" was harsh and painful, but in Gerinel's eyes, any night he went to sleep with a meal in his stomach and bruises that weren't too painful was a blessing. He couldn't imagine another life...at least not until someone showed him one.

A caravan of Varisian wanderers was passing through Korvosa, and Gerinel watched them curiously. He'd never seen or met Varisians from outside Korvosa, ones who hadn't been broken by the city, and he was entranced by their vibrant dances, their joyful music and the clear love they shared for one another, a love that Gerinel had never had a chance to know. One of the caravan's elders noticed him watching, and asked him to sit by her. She asked him questions about himself, what his life was like and how his family fared. When Gerinel informed her he didn't have one, the elder was saddened, and told him "No child of Desna should have to face the shadows alone." She offered him an amulet of a wooden butterfly, and told Gerinel that even as the shadows gathered, the stars would still light his way.

The experience changed Gerinel, and over the course of the next year, he found himself staying out later, seeking any vantage point he could find over the haze of the city where he could see the stars. He began to feel a sense of awe, as if he'd never noticed their beauty before, and in time discovered local faithful of Desna willing to share more of her way with him. That this world was dark and frightening, but Desna had given mortals the ability to dream of a better world, and the power to make those dreams real in the waking world. For the first time in his life, Gerinel felt like he had a future.

Unfortunately, one night, Gaedren had Gerinel followed to see where he went at night, and upon discovering the boy's clandestine meetings with priests and wanderers, began to beat him savagely, cursing him and the priests who'd filled his head with such foolish dreams, raging that this life was the best an orphaned moth brat like him could hope for, and that no one was going to save him. Gerinel took the blows, fixing his gaze on the sky above and the stars watching over him, even as Gaedren screamed for the boy to look at him, even as he ripped the amulet from his neck and cast it to the cobblestones, breaking it like a cheap bauble. It was only when strangers investigating the noise came that Gaedren ran like a frightened hare, leaving Gerinel lying bloodied in the street, but mercifully still alive.

It was around this time that the caravan Gerinel had watched the year before had returned to Korvosa, and he immediately sought out the elder who'd spoken to him before. He showed her the broken amulet, showed her the still-healing wounds he bore and he begged her to take him with the caravan. He feared that if he stayed in the city even one more night, Gaedren would make sure he did not see the next sunrise. She reassured the wailing boy, and spoke with her kin, who welcomed Gerinel as if a long-lost cousin, and when the caravan did depart, he came with them.

In his years with the wanderers, Gerinel grew into a handsome and proud man. His adoptive family taught him more of Desna's ways, as well as how to defend himself and his new family from the dangers of the road, and he was surprised when his dreams turned prophetic and he came to see how Desna's blessing had been with him all his life, keeping him from the worst of Gaedren's wrath and allowing him to survive. As he grew into manhood, his dreams began to manifest in the waking world with the powers of a priest, a day of joyous celebration for the caravan. In time, they returned to Korvosa once more, a time Gerinel used to dread, but now welcomed, as he felt it was now time for Gaedren Lamm's luck to run out. When a letter came to him shortly after his arrival asking to meet someone else Gaedren had wronged, he smiled a grim smile, for it seemed fortune was guiding him towards the justice he sought...

So...do we wanna call it folks? It's been almost two weeks and there's no sign of our GM. :(

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Anybody heard from the GM lately? It's been over a week since he posted anywhere and I'm getting a little worried...

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Everything alright? It's been a while, and I think we've all posted...

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Whose turn is it atm?

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Gerinel cries out as he sees Yelena fall. He rushes over to her (likely opening himself up to an AoO) and crouches down, whispering prayers to Desna under his breath as he lays a hand on her wound.

Spontaneously casting cure light wounds on Yelena.

"Sometimes we have to make our own luck. Come on, Victor still needs you...we still need you!

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

What can I say but "Yikes!"?

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Finishing the casting of the spell, (thanks for the correction, GM!) Gerinel moves to the side, hoping to divert Gobblegut's attention so he and Odver can tag-team the big critter.

Standard action to cast divine favor, as I said last post, and using the move action to position myself flanking Gobblegut so I can attack next round.

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Gerinel grimaces at the sight of Gobblegut.

"He's gotten a lot bigger since I last saw him," he comments to Yelena.

He says a small prayer to Desna to give him the fortune he'd need to win this fight.

Casting divine favor on myself, giving me +2 to attack and damage thanks to my Fate's Favored trait!

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

I will spend a move action to crawl through the doorway.

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Gerinel sneers as they enter the room and Gaedren taunts them.

"You didn't seem to care for my skills or resourcefulness when you tried to beat me to death in the street, old man. What was it you said? "F*ck you and those flighty blighters what filled your head with stupid dreams. This life is the best an orphaned moth brat like you could ever hope for. No one's coming to f*cking save you." That's where you were wrong, Gaedren. When those people happened upon us and you ran like the cowardly wretch you are, Desna saved me! And she brought us together, all the others you've harmed over the years, to find you here: a feeble and pathetic mess, wallowing in garbage. Your luck's finally run out. I can't believe I was ever afraid of you."

I am back from my Chicago trip and will begin catching up on posting this afternoon after work! Thank you for your patience.

How much time will we have to ready a character? I'm leaving on a trip to Chicago tomorrow and I'll be gone until Sunday...not only will I not really be able to assemble a proper sheet with only a phone to post from, but Gerinel will probably need to be botted as well.

This is LITERALLY the thematically perfect AP to play a Storm Kindler in!

I think I'm going to go a little against-the-grain in terms of concept: a character ADAPTING to the pirate lifestyle rather than starting out already piratically-inclined. Class-wise I'm thinking Arcanist, maybe human or half-elf, with the Ancient Historian campaign trait.

"It's not a shell game, shell games are rigged. It's a coin-toss," Gerinel comments. "We'll have to trust in Desna once again, but I think hedging our bet and sticking together is best. Heads or tails...and I say heads; we go find the vermin in his hole."

I vote going lair door.

"If he does, don't expect it to be something tricky to navigate like you might be used to. Gaedren's an old man, and a lazy one at that. He'd want an escape route that's easy on his bones," Gerinel comments snidely.

I'd be interested indeed, though unfortunately I have played through Iron Gods completely in the past (it's the only Pathfinder AP I've completely played through, as a matter of fact). I would, however, be happy to suspend my knowledge of it from the past to go through it again, maybe playing something different than my old character, Fireday, Warpriest of Iomedae and Saint of Starmetal! :D

Still, all things equal, I'd prefer Skull and Shackles as I haven't played that one yet.

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Gerinel joins the search as well once he's sure the children will be okay.

"That's what I'd recommend, Hei-wa," Gerinel adds with a nod. "There's another option if anyone wants to leave the city behind: Any Varisian caravans about, I'm sure they'd accept a child with no other place to go...I should know, they accepted me and helped me become the man I am today!"

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Gerinel finishes descending the steps and smiles.

"Lamm talks a great game about killing people for disobeying him, but he's bad at it. He tried to kill me, but he failed. And we're gonna make sure he can never threaten any of you again!" he declares.

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Gerinel blinks in surprise and rushes after Hei-wa, pushing by Yelena and taking the stairs since he can't match Hei-wa's sheer athleticism.

"That goes for any other Little Lamms!" he adds to Yelena's call. "I don't know if any of you remember me, but I was one of you years ago: Gerinel. The old man tried to kill me, but he failed. Now I'm back and I'm gonna make sure he never lays a hand on any of you ever again!"

Huzzah! I still have nightmares from my time in school! Which is weird because I graduated from college more than 10 years ago, I *should have accrued* enough workplace experience to fuel work-related nightmares, but my brain always seems to default to me being late on an essay for a class I'm about to fail...

Gerinel offers his own potion to Hei-Wa. He frowns at the sight of the lifeless dog.

"I agree. At the very least, it'll allow us to secure the other exits and make sure Gaedren doesn't have a way to slink away."

[Warpriest 1, AC17, T13, FF14 | HP 11/11, F+4 R+3 W+4 | CMB +0, CMD 14 | Init +3, Perc. +3 | Blessings 3/3]

Gerinel says a small prayer to Desna and lays a hand on Odver's shoulder.

"May Desna smile on your strike."

Going to give Odver a Lucky Presence Blessing. He can call upon it to roll any one ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check twice and take the better result.

"For my part, I like to think I understand where to be merciful and when to send a soul to its final slumber. I've been on the road long enough to know sometimes a caravan has to fight to protect itself. I've no love for any of these scumbags, they made my childhood a living hell. But in sparing them we've proven we're better than them, better than Gaedren. And I can't help but take a small amount of smug satisfaction from that," Gerinel says.

He nods appreciatively as he accepts one of the potions, then his expression sours when Giggles wakes up.

"I barely got to KNOW my mother...OR my father for that matter, you overgrown twelve-year-old!" he retorts, just before Hei-wa goes to work on him.

"Thank you," he says as the half-orc goes unconscious. "He was always one of the worst. Just would NEVER shut up unless Gaedren yelled at him, and even that never lasted long."
