Gabryjel watches the actions on Nadya with horror.

He contemplates shooting the guard, knowing that even a dagger at it's most critical threat wouldn't like likely kill her in six seconds; still, he thinks things through and lowers his weapon slowly.

Gods damn! If I hadn’t been shooting my bow, likely they could have talked it out with her… This is all my fault!

Gabryjel's mind tacks over the decisions that he has made with his allies thus far. He recalls clearly that his constant un-charismatic ways coupled with his "Shoot First - Ask Questions Later" attitude has not been as helpful as it could have been.

Realizing that his continued presence would likely cause problems for his companions, he grabs his gear and disappears into the woods.

Knowing what he knows of tracking, he elects to search for and find Aneira and make sure that she is safe – wherever she is.

For a moment he reflects that leaving the quest will have dire consequences – but that is the path he must now walk….

Gabryjel will do a full withdrawal from the combat, not wanting to cause any other issues. Then, once he's gone, he'll Take 20 on his Survival check to find the path back to the portal that Aneira was sent through and try to find her, hoping that she is alright.

Hey all –

I’m writing this to say goodbye and explain my absence from the game.

Unfortunately I was accused of intentionally doing things to adjust the coding in the game to affect the dice rolls in a recent post. The GM did not believe my explanation as to why this happened. We’ve communicated over PM over the past few days regarding this, but he has not changed his mind.

Therefore I will no longer be playing anymore in either of his games.

I was informed that finding a replacement for me should not be a problem, so hopefully my absence will not compromise the game too much in the interim that I’m gone.

Meanwhile, I will miss playing with you all, and I hope that you enjoy playing the campaigns to their conclusion.

I wish I could be there with you, but I guess it’s not meant to be.

Enjoy the game, and I hope you all kill the White Witch!

Stealth Check -

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

Gabryjel knocks another arrow -

He takes 20 on Stealth and preps his arrow to fire at the enemy as soon as he sees him stick his head out, hoping to remain hidden from any enemy and drop the threat without being noticed.

DM Variel wrote:
Remove the webs and drop your weapons now or I will slit her throat. Once done with her I will then start in on the children. You have 6 seconds to obey.

Hmm... Wait, we got six seconds to put down our weapons? Only six seconds to comply? Damn, what the hell kind of time limit is that? Oh well - it could be a lot Worse...

DM Variel wrote:
I agree Venja but regardless the attack still hits guard 2 just no threat.

Terribly sorry you guys; I forget the appropriate Crit Range of a longbow.

DM Variel wrote:
Only guard 2 and guard 3 remain with guard 3 still stuck in the webbing.

Gabryjel turns and takes a shot on the Healthiest guy who is not webbed -

Attack with bow -
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

If it hits -
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

EDIT: Critical Confirm?

Confirm with bow -
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

If it hits -
2d8 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11

Gabryjel will hold action until he sees the status of the men after Beck and Sheelah attack - who's standing and who isn't.

Once I know more, he'll act.

Well, to be fair, Gabryjel isn't the most "Diplomatic" of people.

But the low Charisma aside I assumed that (at least in this case) combat vets who have become mercenary's, bounty hunter's and soldier's of fortune may be the type who shoots first when his mates are being pinched by a bunch of thugs dressed up in guard uniforms.

Anyhow - sorry for that, but hopefully killing everyone doesn't cause too much trouble. But if it does I guess I'll have some more killing to do... ;)

Out of Game I don't know if it will even matter at this point. If these guys are guards belonging to a witch, killing them or "almost" killing them feels like it's pretty much going to be a problem no matter what. We struck the guards, we beat the guards, we knocked them out - but we didn't formally kill them; I don't think that's going to matter much in the long run.

Also this is kind of a general "tossing it out there" sort of thing; if we're going to have a way of doing things via combat and tactics, that's cool. But I'd rather know that before we get into things, it just helps out a lot in the long run.

Gabryjel smirks and sends another arrow flying; this time to the guard who recently who managed to escape the webbing but who was not yet attacked.

Attack -
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

If it hits -
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

DM Variel wrote:
The web spell specifically states that they have cover and it blocks line of sight.

All I'm saying is that when I shoot an arrow at people in real life, having them entangled normally gives me an edge to hit them, especially when they're entangled with magical webbing!

Meh - I guess I'll go for guy number 1, then.

Venja, I think you’re right about him trying to save the guards for some reason; though at this point they’re the same scum who’s connected to the White Witch via her “muscle” as far as I can tell. I’d drop these bums like a bad habit, if I’m able to, that is.

Also, I know they’re not prone; but I assumed that if they were formally entangled with webbing that they’d probably be very, very easy to hit.

Also, it is not possible for me to believe or accept that a person who is enshrouded with thick webs like a cocoon would somehow benefit from any sort of protection whatsoever at all. I’ve fired too many bows in real life to believe that a person bound by anything would be harder to hit than a guy who is able to dodge about because he’s free to do so.

Variel – at this point I don’t know which guy is which via the 1-6. I know that there are 6 guys. One of them got dropped with the arrow and Helgash is trying to heal him. I’d pick the guy closest to Helgash that he isn’t trying to heal.

At this stage Gabryjel would rather kill the enemies of his new pal Hatch and his reasonable acquaintance Nayda.

However, lest everyone think I’m being one of those guys who puts social RP above the team, let me offer my opinions from an “out of game” perspective. Specifically; I’m guessing that if my shots hit the targets that the enemy’ll drop to negative (as I recall that the GM Variel allows the NPC’s to go to negative HP equaling Con – like he did at that cabin when he took over). In other words, this means that if they go down at all, unless my damage would be equal to their Con Negative (I’m assuming their Con to be anywhere from 10-14, with a minimum of 10 – so I’d need to at least do 18 points of damage with one shot to kill them outright – assuming they have d8 HP at maximum with a negative Con Modifier of 10 minimum, though somehow I’m betting it’s higher). But that’s unlikely. That said, I drop them to negative, Helgash can move forward to stabilize them with magic as needed, but his power shouldn’t be able to revive them, only stabilize them. That said, the next thing you know we got 2 guys unconscious (leaving 33% of their company out of commission and them without even taking a shot). This means that the rest of them have to decide if they want to continue this dance, or head for the hills – or, in other words, it should positively impact an Intimidate Check to get them to listen to whatever the Paladin wants to tell them.

Helgash wrote:
Gabe, who are you shooting at? The guy I just healed? I got a little confused because in one place it says 'he takes another shot from his stealthed position at a new target', which I assume is a different from the one you shot before? Then it says 'If it hits the prone target next to Helgash'

I would have hit the next target near you. In this case, I assume that the guys who are tied up in webbing are considered prone, though sometimes I'm not sure.

Helgash wrote:
Also... Wouldn't you have noticed that Helgash cast a spell on the guy?

Gabrjyel isn't much of a caster, and has little knowledge of magic. I suppose it's possible that I'd notice it, but you're also 80 feet away, so I don't know.

To be honest, Gabryjel's been itching for some trouble since he got all sorts of crap dumped on him when he walked into the bar, which is unusual, because we all know that no one starts something epic in an RPG by walking into a bar... ;)

Gabryjel grins fiercely at Helgash's move.

Sweet! The tiefling's got 'em hoodwinked for sure... when they think he's on their side they'll never expect another shot!

As he watches Helgash bluff the guards, he takes another shot from his stealthed position at a new target.

Attack at a -2 for range -
1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 - 2 = 19

If it hits the prone target next to Helgash -
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

He glances at Helgash and gives him a nod.

Nice move kid! Way to bluff 'em!

Gabryjel is very pleased with the magical arrows; but for now he will keep a hold of them, trying to keep things hidden.

See the guards, Gabryjel drops to a low crawl and attempts to move in and shoot the enemy from a distance from Stealth...

Stealth Check -
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Boring conversation anyway... he thinks.

As soon as he gets into a good position, he lets fly with an arrow at the chief guard.

Attack with arrow (-2 for 100 foot range) -
1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 - 2 = 26

If it hits
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

EDIT: Sweet - critical confirm
Attack with arrow (-2 for 100 foot range) -
1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 2 = 22

If it hits add
2d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12

Roth: If you are from here, Ryu it is not so cut and dry. The Winter Witches rule this land with an iron fist. Their word is law and none dare refute them for fear of their power. Yet the power is limited as if the entire town would rise up I am sure that the Pale Tower could be overthrown or at all east starved out. It is for that reason that the witches use such means to sow doubt and confusion. Those that did this are in her employ and no doubt receive compensation for their deeds.

Gabryjel looks at the man thoughtfully.

Hmmm... That's twice he called me "Ryu"... He must mistake me for another equally handsome man...

"Of course they get paid out for doing her bloody business... but I reckon that if the witches need to hire up muscle to do their killing that maybe tales of their sorcery are overblown a little."

"Either way you slice it, I'd just assume bleed 'em quick and quiet-like; but if we do it public maybe it'll rile up this piss-poor town and get 'em eager to do their own killing without needing folks like us to come in and take care of things," he says.

"Anyhow - let's get moving on the mission, you know?"

DM Variel wrote:
If it was only so easy Ryu. You see the ones that I suspect are behind this are the guards and soldiers from the Pale Tower. He made the mistake of speaking ill of the Winter Witch. It seems that whenever that happens, people disappear or have accidents. That is why I must be careful about who I approach with this information. If it reaches the wrong ears I will be gone next.

Gabryjel frowns.

"Then we torch the poxing Pale Tower to the ground and salt the earth..." he says with a grunt.

His eyes narrow in thought.

"Don't make much sense, though - why'd a witch have goons with brass knuckles beat the guy to death and then cover it up? Why not drop him with poxing witchcraft, eh?"

"It means that folk do the killing for this witch... I'm wondering why they do it... and why she don't do her own killing with magic..." he says after a short moment.

Helgash wrote:
"I think many of whom we have found here are simple victims, of their own ignorance and fear" - he states - "Which has no bearing on the fact that the perpetrators need to be brought to justice, and pay for their actions"

Gabryjel hefts his bow.

"I don't give much of a damn for people who don't got balls," he says with a grunt.

"But I hate folk who try to push their gods damn will on weaker folk worse," he adds.

b]"I say we find out who those whores are and bleed 'em... We bleed 'em real good..."[/b]

He looks at Helgash.

"I don't really care what the reason is for them killing him; I say we show 'em the meaning of payback," he says with a nod.

I'm good to do whatever needs getting done to move things forward.

If it means ditching the body - I'll ditch it. If it means taking it forward, I'll take it forward.

Whatever needs getting done to get moving on sounds good to me.

DM Variel wrote:
Umm, yes, uh, leave it in the back if you would. That way I can show them the evidence as well. Would you do me the favor thougha nd try to replace the dirt so it doesn't look like someone left a hole there. The loose dirt should not be an issue as he was just buried recently. Thank you all again for your efforts.

Gabryjel glances at the man.

"Hang on, padre," he says checking the enthusiasm.

"Someone went through a lot of trouble to do this - means that they not only killed your pal for some reason, but after they killed him, they covered it up."

"We kick up a fuss on this too loud and maybe it'll just make the basterd who did this disappear, you know?"

He looks at the priest for a moment.

"You got any reckoning on who did the job? I mean - if there's someone specific that we can pinch and haul their ass into the authorities, I'm down with that."

He looks at everyone.

"That being the case, we going to try to figure out who did this, or just cover up our tracks and let the rest of these people take care of things?"

He glances back to the priest.

"Thing is, padre - so far this town don't inspire me much on how serious they are in taking care of business, you know? They're either weak or corrupt; but either way you slice it, I don't trust 'em much."

He shrugs.

"Anyhow, just tossing it out there - I'll leave it to you on what you want to do, though," he adds.

Gabryjel will take the items the priest offered for safekeeping.

Then he'll go back and make sure the evidence is cleaned up at the graveyard.

Then he'll go see what else is going on...

Venja wrote:

"Well, we know he didn't die from a lumbering accident. We have the option of telling the priest about it, or showing him the body so he has proof, not just our word. Though we could always re-bury the body and bring the priest here to show him if he needs to see it himself... on the other hand, if he needed to see it himself, he'd be here with us."

Venja backs away and lets those with the strength and will to carry the body (if necessary) make the final decision on whether or not to move it.

"We leave the body here and someone may mess with it."

"We get it to a priest then he can do what he needs to and figure out what's going on with this corpse - you know, cast a spell to talk to the dead, or whatever priests do."

He looks at his companions and shrugs.

"Right, here's what we're going to do - we're going to take one of these blankets and wrap the corpse in it. Don't worry about the smell; the ground's cold enough that it shouldn't have rotted much..."

"Then we hitch it to a travois and drag it bag with our gear on top of it hitched to either one of us or Sheelah."

"Anyone sees us hauling it they'll likely figure we're just hauling gear."

"Then we head to the priest and get done what needs getting done," he adds.

Seeing willing partners to this in Helgash and Beck, Gabryjel promptly enlists their aid in this extremely easy task so that they can complete the mission and go about their business.

He makes sure that neither Venja or Xanxan have to watch the moving of the corpse, as he doesn't want to disturb them by showing an almost cavalier attitude in moving the body to the priest; preferring to have at least some sign of respect for those of his companions who are not as eager to dig a up a body.

DM Variel wrote:
Jus pt wondering what you guys are doing with th body. Putting it back in th grave, bringing it to Roth, something else? Just let me know.

Well, if it was up to me, I'd ascertain the wounds done to the body; I'd figure out who caused them specifically - then I'd maybe cast "Speak With Dead" or some spell like that to know more (which I'm thinking was memorized if we were searching graves.

At this point I'm along mainly for backup, though, and I don't know what it is my companions are going to do, or planning on doing. I'd already have the body back in town at this point, if I didn't have magic to confirm what's up. I'm sorry for the response, but at this point it's kind of up to the other players.

This was their mission, after all. I'm just here for back-up.

DM Variel wrote:
What are you guys doing with the body? Still at the grave site?

We have the details on the body - I'm not sure what's going on now, only that we have the details. If there's more to it, I'm on board, I'm just not sure what that could be.

"I got no beef with taking the corpse - but that's up to ya'll," Gabryjel says neutrally as the others look at the body.

He slips the arrow-heads in his pouch, planning to fix them to arrows later.

Then he picks up the dagger and studies it intently.

Any idea what it's made out of?

While he waits for the others, Gabryjel examines the corpse with a heal check -

Untrained Heal Check -
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Gabryjel nods to Hatch.

”Ah – spellslinger, eh? I figured. No worries, then – if you use sorcery on the trail, that’ll be just as fine. Point is; when it’s time to end this witch, magic or steel does just as good,” he says to the Fey with a nod.

”Meantime, we got a thing to do; you interested in coming with us, or you need time to prep for the showdown at this Tower place?” he asks the Fey with a grim voice but a polite tone.

Not sure what will happen next, but after a while, this is what’s going to happen.

When the time comes to head out, Gabryjel will pick up a white sheet and slice a hole in the center and drape it over his body like a white tabard, belting it slightly around his waist. The long white covering which drapes over his clothing and armor and down to his knees should provide him with some form of “artic camouflage” when he moves through the snow – he hopes.

Taking another long white cloth he cuts it to the shape of a long white strip which he quickly wraps around his head and most of his face like a white turban; hoping it will not only help to disguise his features, but again – the white covering will offering him a bit more modest protection on the trail.

At this point he keeps his weapons ready he waits until the cover of nightfall and peers outside, studying the terrain and making sure there is no one around who might watch his departure. At which point he slips from the door with the grace of a cat and seeks for Beck’s footprints in the snow.

Finding them, he moves quietly after the druid, making sure to move in the same path that the Tiefling made in his magical disguise. In case they are tracked he at least hopes to disguise their numbers.

All the while he keeps his eyes open on the trail, not trusting the town or the terrain for anything…

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

I never got an answer from Hatch. Does he need weapons or not? I am able to lend him some daggers, but I don't know if he needs them. Please let me know what's up with that, as it will likely effect what I do before I go gravedigging.

FYI - Gabryjel's got no worry's on digging up corpses... we all gotta go sometime...

DM Variel wrote:

Believe me Gabe I wish this Nahzena dead more than you. However I must see to my sons first. I will not leave them here without first providing for them should I not return. This will take some time. Once that is completed then I will be the first to lead us there.

Feel free to ask any questions to Hatch or Nadya though. She is not leaving just answering your questions about the use of sleds and your journey.

Gabryjel nods.

"Right; and I reckon that means that we need to take care of Aneira's kid coming, too," he says to her.

He glances over at Hatch.

"So we got two things with firstborns' coming," he says giving the Fey a wry grin, knowing full well the significance of a firstborn child to Fey culture, recalling many tales when they would seek for the Firstborn child in barter of a contract.

"After we do that job, then we head out to deal with this witch," he adds to the Hatch.

"You're crafty with spellslinging I reckon, you need any other gear when we head out? If you do, let us know, I got a few daggers on me I could spot you, if you need 'em... just let us know what's up, you know?" he adds, ready to get going now that they had a plan.

DM Variel wrote:
Please Gabe, no need for weapons right now.

Gabryjel glances down at the bow that he happens to be coincidentally holding and rolls his eyes, saying nothing but stepping out of her way so she can come inside.

DM Variel wrote:
I care not if y go with me as I am set upon this course. I will leave in 5 days time as I will need to make arrangements for my sons.

He looks at her.

"Five days is a long time - the way these bloody fools act in this place how do you know they won't sell you out to this gods damned witch for a little coin?" he says, then quickly relates Xanxan's tale with the bartender and the poisoned drink.

"They may not have balls here, but they're shifty basterds and just as likely to cause trouble for you tonight, much less five days..."

"Not telling you what to do; just saying - if a thing needs doing it's best done quickly."

"I reckon this witch needs a killing - I'll give you hand in the job if you'd like; but I don't fancy waiting and giving that witch time to make herself all nice and safe in her house or castle or wherever the hell witches live," he says with a grunt.

He glances over at the Fey.

"My mate Hatch here wants this bloody witch dead, too, by all accounts. I reckon that we can all head out together and make her bleed for what she's done - one way or the other," he says grimly as he nods over at the creature; confident that this "Hatch" will want to help out in bringing revenge to this filth who hurt both Nadya and him.

Gabryjel stiffens at Xanxan's words, but says nothing.

Instead, he puts down the stuff he's cleaning and swings his bow up into his hand and walks over to the door.

He opens it directly, but stands just inside the door so that he cannot be "rushed" but is still able to shoot - if need be.

Despite this he holds his bow casually, as if he is just carrying it, not threatening, but still ready if need be.

"Welcome home," he says to the three of them.

"It's pretty damn cold out there - don't you want to come inside with us and get warm?" he says looking at them all searchingly.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

EDIT: Good times. Why can't I roll like that in combat, the world may never know...

Gabryjel looks over at the creature and nods his head.

He recalls his time in the military far to the south and how he was aided and healed by Fey when his own company had abandoned him to certain death in the field.

That says, he responds.

In Sylvan:

”I see that your heart is heavy and that many burdens weigh on you. I cannot amend that except to say that we shall make sure that for her crimes this witch shall suffer…”

”Later, if you wish it, I will drink the Cup of Brotherhood with you and dance with you by the great fire under the moon to share your sorrow.”

”Then we shall turn tears to joy as we take iron and flame and usher this witch into darkness.”

He nods his head at the Fey and glances at the others.

”Yeah – so basically I told him I know he’s upset and that later on, if he wants, I’ll dance with him this dance that Fey do to get out all their pain and anger… it’s like – I don’t know, sometimes when they’re pissed off they do this thing where they dance until they feel so wiped out that they pretty much get all the pissed feelings out of their blood… like sweating it out, you know?”

”I’ve seen ‘em do it before… he seems like a good guy – if he needs to get it out of his blood, I don’t mind,” he adds.

Perception Check –
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

EDIT: Well, it looks like Gabryjel doesn’t notice them. I guess that’s just as well because if he thought someone was intentionally trying to spy on him, especially after what Venja said, he’d likely head outside quick and go round and round with them, even if they weren’t actually spying on him.

He doesn’t want people to spy on him or his friends and try to hurt them is all.

Gabryjel glances at the others and then the small creature.

He lowers his weapon and puts his arrow away, watching the creature thoughtfully.

As he listens his eyes seem flat, but his mouth twists into a frown at the story.

He picks up things around the room as he listens and then begins to clean more thoroughly, gathering odds and ends up, doing what he can to help as best as he can.

Despite his enthusiasm with the cleaning his expression becomes more and more angry as the story goes on.

Finally it seems as if he can’t stand it anymore and he spits hard into the fireplace and turns to his comrades, his eyes turning to the creature.

It now seems clear that his problem is not with the creature, but rather what he believes to be the cause of the trouble.

He hears Venja's comment and seems to agree with her completely.

After hearing her comment on him being a sprite, he gauges the creature he wonders if is Fey.

Deciding on a hunch, he tries to address it directly -

In Sylvan:

”You are not responsible; the witch is responsible. By Eachthighern and Titania the Fair we shall make her bleed for it!”

He glances at the other who cannot speak the language.

”I just told him that it’s the gods damned witch’s fault, not his."

"The way I see it we already got a score to settle with that poxing whore; this is just one more reason to kill the bloody witch... Hell yeah, we’ll take care of her, damn straight!” he says to the others.

Gabryjel will go inside to see what is going on.

When he goes inside, he sees Beck seeming to berate some kind of creature in the room.

Saying nothing, he pulls his bow and knocks an arrow - waiting for an explanation...

I don't know about you but I got others to think about as well with my actions. W are in deep enough already without making more trouble.

Gabryjel looks at Variel.

”I said it was my bloody opinion, I didn’t say I was going to go run over there and kill them right now,” he says with a flat voice.

Deciding he has to explain things a bit better, he attempts to.

”Yeah, I’d like to knife all of them for trying to hurt anyone of my crew; because my crew is my family. But if I aimed to do it direct, I’d already have done it by now or died trying; not just sit here and blow off some steam,” he says with some exasperation.

”As for scoring points with these people, why bother? They’re little whores looking for a bloody excuse to cause trouble."

"We walk into a bar – they got trouble with us. We stand on the street – they got trouble with us. Hell, we got a lad like Xanxan’s who’s nice as pie to everyone under the sun? They try to feed him some gods damn witches brew and threaten him with a bloody crossbow, for god’s sake!” he shakes his head, disgusted at how these cowards have been treating the group since they got here, and for no reason.

”Here’s the thing – we said we’d do a job; so we got a job to do. We look for some corpse or something like Beck said, right? Good.”

”Now I aim to do it, but not because these piss-poor little scum-bags might suddenly stop treating all of us like we’re jerk-off’s just ‘cause we come into their crappy town.”

”I’m going to do it because we said we’d do it; so that’s what I’m going to do.”

He looks directly at Beck.

”You want us to go now and take Annee back to the place so she’s safe and make a big show of doing it so they think we left; I’ll do it with you – no worries.”

”If you want to have someone wait here in case Helgash shows up; I can do that, too.”

”You just say what you want to do and I’ll do it, no problem,” he says with a firm nod.

Good to see you Gabe. Hopefully that is the end with the tavern business then we can lay low and left this blow over. It would seem like we are giving the town what it wants by leaving. Then we return at night from the east to Nadya's so know one else knows we are here. That would also throw off the trail if anyone is tracking us._

Gabryjel's eyes linger on Venja for a moment longer, but he turns to Variel.

"Thanks," he says after a moment.

"As for the tavern? Look - the thing is, they're a bunch of little whores there and what they did to Xanxan's not just bloody rude, but it's gods-damned dangerous."

"If they're willing to drug him, who know's what else they'll do?"

"Personally I say we go back there at some dark night and kill them both... but that's just my opinion."

He thinks for a moment longer before continuing, glancing around looking for Helgash, then his eyes flick back to the others.

"If you want to head out though and double-back, I got no beef with that... but the thing is, there's folk out there; I saw someone following me earlier... if we try your move, we better be pretty smooth, you know? We may get someone following us later is all, if that happens I'd rather give him the slip than get pinched on the road, you know?" he says.

Gabryjel looks at Venja and nods.

”It’s alright, then,” he says watching her for a moment, somewhat surprised at the kiss.

”As for Helgash? Hard to say – I thought he was right behind me, but he’s pretty light on his feet, so we’ll just have to see what’s up with him. Hope he didn’t get into any real trouble, though,” he says.

He glances at everyone.

”We got a thing that needs getting done and this town’s not worth the matchwood it would take to burn it down. If we ain’t got no more business here, I say we bug out and do what we got to do before more trouble comes looking for us,” he adds.

Venja wrote:
"they obviously chose not to take my advice because they did not follow me here."

Gabryjel's face is dimly illuminated suddenly as he lights a cigarette.

"I dunno... just because you didn't see me do something don't mean it didn't get done," he says as he takes a drag from the smoke.

"Meantime, if you're really planning on cutting and running - well... I reckon it'd be nice if you told all of us up-front, though," he adds with a thoughtful expression.

He sighs as he enjoys the tobacco.

"Oh, and I wouldn't fret none on Helgash, neither. The way I see it, just 'cause you don't see him right in front of you don't mean he ain't around."

Helgash wrote:
"One can't simply attack patrons and expect to walk away without questioning"

Gabryjel nods at Helgash intently.

”Hell yeah,” he says gripping his bow.

”You want to go in there now and deal with ‘em, or do you want to deal with them later tonight?”

He glances at the inn with narrowed eyes.

”We could come back and light it up; or whatever you got in mind,” he says with calm sincerity.

EDIT: Gabryjel's plan to go in and butcher everything inside except his friend are foiled by some bad rolls it seems. Damn! What are the odds? I know, I know - nearly 20 to 1, right? :)

I hope that there aren't too many additions we could have bought from the blacksmith. When we got to town I wanted one thing - a +2 Composite MW Longbow. It's not even a magical item, but I was told the spending limit was capped beneath that, so I couldn't buy it, or pretty much any of the stuff I was looking for, via spending limit.

If the "Run-down" on what the town has or doesn't have was wrong, could someone let me know now, before things get too far advanced? It would help me a lot. Thank you!

I was eager to get a better bow.

This town does not have one, unfortunately; but I bought the armor as there was nothing else that I am aware of in the town via how the rules for purchasing work.

If there are any other things we can purchase, I may get a few Healing Potions, if possible.

Meantime, are we continuing the story?

If so, I'm good to go.

Verana smiles and nods her head at the both of you. Alright, you convinced me that protecting myself and my daughter is worth the extra to you. I don't have that type of coin though but will credit your account on purchasing one of these items. Are we ready to do business or do you still need some time to come to some arrangement amongst yourselves?

------------------------------------

Those outside, where do you want to head to or do? Spend time in the tavern, dig up a grave, scare townsfolk with weapons drawn at a tailors back door?

"I'll take the armor, I guess; seeing as how you'll credit me," he says to her.

Xanxan Gimblewabe wrote:
"My... what ever will we do with this opportunity?" He asks her.

Gabryjel glances at Xanxan.

"Don't know about you, but I aim to misbehave..." he says with a dry grin, hefting his bow in his hand.

Helgash wrote:
"Beck is a straight shooter. You can rest assured that his claims are bound to be honest and true"

Gabryjel glances long at Helgash, studying him.

He’s quick to sing our praises without knowing us well yet… it could be a sign of a lad ready to be a friend; or it could be someone trying to manipulate you all by playing you for fools… best watch him carefully… Time will show his true colors, but nothing says you can’t be prepared in the meanwhile…

He studies the Tiefling casually, but says nothing more at this time, content to merely observe...

DM Variel wrote:

if you plan on buying the armor it is going to cost you 4160 gp. However I will throw in the month of rations and a healer's kit. What do you think?

The armor is +2 leather btw.

Gabryjel nods at the suggestion.

"Sounds pretty good - I'm probably good to go with it, but can I get back to you after chatting it up with my crew, just to be sure?" he says thoughtfully.

I'm down with it, if I have to do it on loan. As is stands, I don't know how much of a maximum Dexterity Bonus I'd get but having a higher Dexterity Bonus that Leather provides is pretty good.

But I don't know how much coin I got currently to spend, so I got to get back to you in a bit when the rest of them chime in...

But yeah - I'm good with it in spirit, for sure :)

DM Variel wrote:
Taking a key from her belt ouch, she opens the lock on the chest. Inside you can see a set of leather armor along with a belt inside. From what I have been told, I have a set of leather armor that provides just as much protection as a chain shirt. A passing druid sold it to me saying tht he acquired something better a few years back. I haven't found anyone tht was interested in it but perhaps you may be such an individual.

Gabryjel's eyes raise imperceptibly.

"How much you talking?" he says thoughtfully.

"Not for me - but I know a barbarian from Minkai who'd probably dig it... you now, if you're selling..." he says thoughtfully.

Interesting - what is the actual cost? I may buy it...

DM Variel wrote:
I actually forgot, I do have a piece of armor for sale if you are interested. she doesnt' open the chest but waits for your answer.

Gabryjel glances at her thoughtfully.

"That all depends - what type of armor is it? I mean, how can we know if we're interested until we know more about the product?" he says with a small grin.

Helgash wrote:
Mediocre?! Why you little... Try rolling a '2' on your Diplomacy and see what happens - we'll probably be chased out of town with torches and pitchforks :D

Hey, I just react to the situation; it wasn't my fault that the dice gods mock you. It's only my fault for writing a scathing indictment on your terrible roll!

But hey, there's nothing like everyone in a group demonstrating teamwork, right ;)

Helgash wrote:

Helgash smiles again at Verana, opening his arms wide -

"...what sights are there to be seen around Waldsby? I have never been this far north, and am definitely curious about the town - after all, I am here, so it makes perfect sense to get to know it a little better, wouldn't you say?"

Gabryjel takes a draw from his smoke and glances between Helgash and Verana, rolling his eyes a bit at the oracle's mediocre attempts to charm the woman.

Still, the tiefling brings up a valid point: what exactly is there to do at this town?

He looks at the two curiously.

"Yeah - I'm down with that. Let's check this place out," he says, curious to know what action this town has.

Born and raised in a high-mountain enclave of orc and half-orcs. The cult/outpost is inhabited by two types of people: The ones born there (Gorak) and the ones who find their way there (expelled orcs, expelled half-orcs, mystics, wanderers). Total population ~100 people, relatively unknown to outsiders.

The key trait to the town (and the reason for their sub culture) is there are several strong bloodline connections to dragons that carry through the generations of those born in the hold. Gorak was a "touched" one, who exhibits more dragon blood than usual. The final step for his acceptance into the defenders society (8 elite warriors whose job it is to defend the hold) was to go up the mountain and commune with the dragons.

He went up into the mountains for a week, as is custom, and when he came back he found the entire hold burned- overrun by an army of orcs while he was away. With everything of his previous life gone, he wandered through the wilderness before finding a guild.

Personality is eccentric, with an unusual attachment to some of his possessions. Highly intelligent but some schizoid personality features.
