"How did you...? You know what, it really doesn't matter. But is this the real thing, the good stuff? Show me!" Ezmerlilly Vanderpoof scrutinizes the adhesive and spider glands. "Well, I must say, you really brought me outstanding quality! I can offer you 200 gold and - wait..." She hurries over behind a counter and pulls out a crate. As she sets it on the counter, you hear the clank of glass bottles. "Last of my stash here. As I said: 200 gold and I'll throw in two alchemists fire and three potions of cure light wounds." You've succeeded at the Diplomacy check needed here (DC 13) and got the best deal available. "Also, a fair trade’s a fair trade - and you really helped me out here. I've heard there was a half-orc blathering about some important blade or sword or something she found. Moonsilver, Sliverhex, or somesuch. Kept going on about its history to any who would listen." The merchant leans in conspiratorially. "Well I have it from the horse’s mouth, so to speak, that she won’t be needin’ that sword where she’s headed." She draws a hand across the neck, making an unpleasant sound. "The Vessels Between will have that one soon enough. You just need to go out there and grab that sword once they’re through, and I happen to know where they found her little camp."
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
This isn't part of a bluffing attempt, right? If you leave and go the next potential buyer: It doesn't take you long to find Ezmerlilly Vanderpoof's shop. As you let yourself in, you observe as a middle-aged green-haired gnome woman seems to be in the process of performing a massive inventory check of the supplies and reagents in her shop. Flushed with the effort, she rises from her work near a crate of vials and flasks and regards you all with a welcome expression.
"Yes? How can I help you all?" She seems to glance almost nervously out the door at the day's waning light. "And if I seem curt, you have my apologies, but I'm in the middle of going through all my inventory at the moment..." If you propose selling her the glands, roll Sense Motive after you inform her of these intentions. DC 15 Sense motive:
Spoiler:
Ezmerlilly is paranoid about being swindled; it would be very difficult to bluff her (DC+2), and she'd be more receptive to diplomacy (DC-2) If you don't make the above Sense Motive DC, make whatever check you believe represents your style of presenting a "deal" to her - Intimidate, Bluff, or Diplomacy.
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Following easily obtained directions, the party find their way to Johannes Vox's shop, in the merchant district of Daggermark. When you enter the shop, a man with black hair and curious brown eyes looks up from the parchment he was reading. "Yes? How can I help you all?" He seems quite relaxed and confident. If you propose selling him all the adhesive (including the glands*), roll Sense Motive after you inform him of these intentions. DC 15 Sense motive:
Vox thinks there are more nests and believes that the market hasn’t completely dried up, so he doesn't want to pay what you think the adhesive is worth.
He certainly seems to be a proud merchant - getting a better price by laying into him would be quite difficult. (using Intimidate increases the DC by 2) But maybe you can convince him with a well told lie that you wiped out all available nests... (using Bluff lowers the DC by 2) If you don't make the above Sense Motive DC, make whatever check you believe represents your style of presenting a "deal" to him - Intimidate, Bluff, or Diplomacy. *Unfortunately, the quest doesn't give the option to sell to multiple interested parties - it assumes that you sell everything to one merchant.
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
I posted some information HERE in discussion that might affect your decision where to sell the adhesive. So, after you read that post: Which merchant do you want to pay a visit?
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
@all: I appreciate the great RP, but I just want to make one thing clear: You do not have a contract with Johannes Vox (or any other merchant in Daggermark). You went and acquired the adhesive all on your own. The merchant doesn't know you (yet), he only knows Ulisha (and dealt with her in the past). You can certainly go and deal with Vox, but in no way you are obliged to do so. @Redelia: I have another question. It looks like author of the scenario assumed that the players just sell all of the adhesive to only one merchant. How do I go about this? Shall the merchants say something like 'All or nothing.'? To me that feels a little bit like railroading...
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
You are able to collect some adhesive from the egg sac. no check needed, moving on Ulisha's map easily leads you back into town, where you can either find Johannes Vox, or look for a better deal. Diplomacy (Gather Information) or Knowledge (Local) DC 15: A gnome would-be apothecary, Ezmerlilly Vanderpoof, recently failed to deliver some promised goods to the Poisoners’ Guild. She needs something to appease the guild before they decide to drastically renegotiate their contract. DC 25+: Spoiler:
Though he has a reputation for being a fierce negotiator, dwarven merchant Narngar Ninefingers has run up quite the gambling debt. Debtors tend not to last long in a city of assassins, and Narngar is growing desperate for something he can sell to important patrons to prove that he’s worth keeping around.
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Samantha Treeskipper wrote: Is that a nature or survival check, or something else? As weird as it seems, there is no check to collect the adhesive from the egg sac written in this scenario. I've seen one GM make it a survival check with DC 15, though two other GMs just let the group collect the collect the adhesive without a check.Hm... I think I'll rule that I will just let you collect it without a check and move on with the scenario.
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
I assume Thrugar leads the way as the others are following? Thurgar heads closer to the orb, followed by Crowe and Sam. (and Lara?) As you approach, it appears to be a ball of some kind, covered with fresh/sticky spider webs and adhesives, currently suspended from the canopy from a thick string of spider silk. Taking a closer look at the structure, it seems to be an egg sac. It looks like the adhesive is fresh enough to be collected from the egg sac.
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Is there anything else you want to do? (There's still the white orb...)
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
With a little help from a fellow pathfinder each, both Thurgar and Sam successfully extract an undamaged silk gland leaking a sticky white substance!
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Aid another is allowed on these checks. @Crowe: Are you aiding Thurgar? Or are you attempting to get a silk gland yourself?
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Sam heals Thurgars wounds. Thurgar's and Lara's attacks both miss, but Crowe's earthbreaker connects with the body of the spider and crushes a big part of it to pulp. The black spider is dead even before it falls to the ground. COMBAT OVER You can kill the other unconscious spider easily as well, if you want to. You now have a much better view of the white orb - a sac of some sort covered in a sticky white residue. Just a reminder (as it's been a while IRL):
What do you do next?
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Red Spider stabilize roll, HP penalty: 1d20 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 - 1 = 15 DC 10 Sam's and Lara's ranged attacks both miss.
The black spider crawls down enough to attack Thurgar with its pincers from right above him.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
The bite lands firmly on Thurgar's shoulder, and the wound is burning. Fort Save vs. poison, DC 14 As the black spider is still still 5 feet above the ground, it cannot be flanked right now. But if you gain higher ground on one side (by climbing) or grow larger, it'll be possible. ★★★
BOLD: GO!
Spider black (-1 HP)
GM roll: Reflex black spider vs. burning hands: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 DC 15
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Janira leads the expedition back to Absalom without further incident. Paloma's/Cheeper's foraging turns out quite well so nobody needs to use rations. The group then returns to the master of Scrolls, Kreighton Shaine who inquires excitedly about the findings of the adventurers. He compliments everyone on their notes. "Be careful with trying to remember everything. I have a hard enough time remembering what I had for breakfast!" "Since you are now the foremost authorities on the cave system you explored, the honor is yours to name it." Kreighton then proceeds to give his compliments, something he will make sure is noted, much to the halfling's delight. Three days later, you are officially confirmed as society field agents. Each of you is awarded a personalised wayfinder.
"Remember: this is not only the symbol of the society, but also a reminder of the three principal duties: Explore, Report, Cooperate!"

Here are the chronicle sheets for The COREageous Confirmation! Please check if everything is correct. @Jack Hurricane: I filled it out with Normal Progression. If you need Slow Progression, I will of course change your chronicle sheet-

Sorry for dragging my feet again. :-(
I am currently preparing the chronicles for The Confirmation, should be done in the next 30 minutes. @Ryul Dathana: I need a Day Job roll, please.

Crowe's powerful strike shakes the tree heavily... Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 ...but the black spider manages to hold on to the branches. It moves a bit over and shoots another wad of sticky web right at Thurgar.
Web from Black, Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 The sticky substance strikes Thurgar directly on his feet.
Crowe is also still entangled. As a standard action he can make a strength DC 14 or Escape Artist DC 10 check. The web has 2 HP. Entangled:
The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell. ★★★
BOLD: GO!

(I will resolve Crowe's action after everyone in round 1 has acted)
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Will post the conclusion tomorrow, I need to get some sleep now. --- Questions: (because this is my first online pbp game as a GM) How do I report this game?
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
That's fine, I see it as a learning opportunity. ;-)

Ok, now I'm stumped. How do I handle this situation, @Redelia? A tree is an object, so AC 5. I could use the hardness and hp of a wooden wall, but is this the correct way to go about this?
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
@Crowe: The unconscious red spider is dangling 5 feet above the ground and the black spider is out of your reach, still 15 feet above the ground. As you can only move at half speed (entangled), you cannot both reach and attack the red spider. You can keep the attack and damage rolls for an actual attack later, if you want. What is Crowe doing instead?
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Samantha burns the dark black spider and it screeches in pain!
Web from Red, Touch Attack, range: 1d20 + 7 - 6 ⇒ (16) + 7 - 6 = 17 This time, the sticky substance strikes Crowe directly on the shoulder.
Entangled:

An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell. The strain of this action was too much for the red spider and it falls, but a trailing line of silk keeps it dangling 5 feet above the ground.

As Janira rises and takes a quick glance at the unconscious Minotaur she says "Thank you for saving my life. I am in your debt." She stands and brushes some of the dirt from her clothes and sees that they are stained with blood. "I will be sure to put in glowing recommendations for your heroism here today! What you do with the defeated Minotaur is decision you should make as you defeated it. But remember that it's a mortal danger to everyone living here or traveling through." Janira pauses for a moment, then asks: "So... what were you able to find out about the caves?"

Jack's miss chance (1-20): 1d100 ⇒ 96 AoO Broken Battleaxe vs Ryul, entangled, prone: 1d20 + 7 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 2 - 4 = 13
Jack brings down his sword on the prone Minotaur, and the monster howls in pain. Ryul moves fast to get into a flanking position, but is not fast enough - the monster sees an opportunity to attack and swings its axe at his feet. Luckily for the elf, the Minotaur is still flat on the ground and therefore unable to fully control the swing - the axe fails to connect and the fighter answers with a precise slash across the evil foe’s face. The Minotaur howls once more, then loses his grip on the axe and falls unconscious. Janira Stabilize: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 1 - 3 = -1
Janira's wounds keep bleeding strongly, but both Cheeper's and the Minotaur's rates of bloodloss decrease quickly to one or two drops per sevond... and then stop completely. Combat over! But I'll keep us in rounds until everyone is stable. ★★★

Lara's gun goes off with a boom and the well aimed bullet hits the red spider where it really hurts. Nice damage roll! :-) Samantha is up!
Silverhex Quest WEBS | The Corageous Confirmation
Lara, if you stay where you are, your target will have soft cover (+4 to AC) from Thurgar. Do you want to make a 5-foot-step first (it's allowed in the surprise round) or are you confident that you'll hit when you stay where you are?

Minotaur Reflex, entangled: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 2 = 18 (vs Cashel's grease DC 15)
Finally, a failed Reflex save! Paul's arrow goes far. Again, the Minotaur manages to avoid the greasing of his broken axe. Nal's spell adds another layer of bacon fat - and this time, the Minotaur finally slips and falls. ★★★

Broken Battleaxe vs Jack, entangled: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 2 = 12

Lara? Do you want to do anything? Also, if Sam wants to act now, she can. The spider is a closer now - I'd rule that with a 5-foot-step Sam is able to hit it with her burning hands spell.

Minotaur Reflex, entangled: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 2 = 22 (vs DC 15)
o_O For whatever reason the dicebot heavily favors the Minotaur's Reflex save. So many successes, even with the DEX-penalty from being entangled... Seriously, what are the odds? :-O Paul's arrow hits, but it only grazes the large beast. Nal's spell turns the ground under the Minotaur into a puddle of bacon fat - but again, the monster somehow manages to not slip and fall. Janira's wounds keep bleeding. ★★★

Again, I am really sorry, everyone. I thought I finally had everything under control and we could go forward with my part of GM school.

The group continues to press forward toward the glob of webs. Just as Thurgar is about to turn the corner around the fallen tree Lara and Samantha notice almost simultaneously some movement in the upper branches. A tiny flicker of a leg, or maybe light reflecting off an eye, draws their attention upwards where they can now see two giant spiders (one a bit smaller than the other) nestled in various webs 20 feet above the ground.
