Fifth Hand of the Chief's page

1 post. Alias of Dune Drifter.

Well I was curious of something, because someone mentioned removing your hand is a free action, and putting your hand on a weapon is a free action.

So could a Kasatha Gunslinger with Rapid Reload and the Alchemic cartridges shift his gun from hand to hand to allow him to make all four of his attacks?

Ok so a player in my group has picked up the Kasatha and is using a 3rd Party class called the War Scholar.

Now the Kasatha is a good monk period. With Multiweapon Fighting a level 1 monk can throw 4 punches a round at pretty much the same penalty as the normal monk.

Now with this case we have a Monk who can wear light armor and still use his AC bonus. So he has at level 5 Mithril Chain Shirt which is a +4 Armor bonus and has a max of +6 dex. Well his Dex and Wis are +6 (20 + Item such as a Belt or Headband) +1 (Gestalt)

So his AC is 29 with a touch AC of 25. So he is becoming a bit of a challenge to nail with an attack that is not Touch AC or without a Nat 20 on the dice.

He is also working on saving up for a Guided or Agile AoMF.
Currently he is throwing 4 1d8s a round with his Dex using Slashing Grace and Boar Style to make his unarmed attacks slashing. He has expressed a desire to retrain his feats later when he gets the AoMF but now I am concerned.

If I let him have Agile (I don't think I wanna give him Guided) he will have Dex to Hit and Damage. Which he currently has with the investment of Weapon Finesse, Boar Style, and Slashing Grace.

Now yes with a single investment of at least 5K for the Agile Amulet of Might Fist he has replaced three of his feats.

Now I don't want to make this about gimping his character. But should I allow him to retrain 3 feats when he gets this much money which currently will be closer to level 7.

Now I can see many of you wondering how he has 3 feats, and Multiweapon fighting. Well I like the flaw system from 3.5 so I still use it. He took Multiweapon Fighting as one of his flaws and Weapon Focus (Unarmed) as the other.

Now for the Gestalt he has taken Brawler, he liked the flexible combat feat stuff. His combat feats from there are Agile Maneuvers and Weapon Spec (Unarmed Strike)

So with his flexibility in changing combat featd the idea of him now being able to change 3 feats worries me. He is already very hard to hit, god save me if he picks dodge. And he hits pretty well, and does a lot of damage with a 1d8 +6(dex) +2 (Ws) at least for a level 5. If he added Piranha Strike he could increase his damage as well.

Any Advice for me on if I should let him change his feats, and how to better guide this so I don't end up with a issue on how to hit him and not always hit the party. (A Barbarian//Bard; Warpriest//Slayer)

Ok back in 3.5 we could build the Easy Baked Wizard and it was one of my favorite combinations of feats and ACFs and I was wondering if it would seem fair to allow such things in PF using the Arcanist, using the first exploit for the Familiar exploit and trading that out along with the spellbook to gain the same ACFs on the Arcanist as if it was a Wizard.

I am just curious if that seems fair or maybe a little to much?

Ok so my friend wants to make a character for the new game coming up. the one I will be playing my Arcanist in. However his only premise currently is he wants to make one hell of a swordsmen, perhaps a duelist but he wants this guy to be extremely good with a sword. Not so much magic but that could help. He really just wants to be able to go into a non-magic environment and still be just as good with his sword, without me throwing buffs on him.

He likes the Swashbuckler mechanics of their deeds, like Parry and Riposte if that helps.

Ok so I have never played a full caster before, that is to say a 9th level spell caster. The furthest I have ever played is a Bard, with 6th level spell casting.

Now the race I am gonna play is tied up right with the the Samsaran or the Dreamscarred Press's Elan.
The two choices are very nice each and come with serious upsides.

Samsaren alternate racial trait allows you to pick a spell list and steal spells from it to add o your own spell list. The +2 Int and Wis is nice, Wis is a dump stat but the boost is nice, the -2 Con sucks as it makes you more of glass canon but it works fairly well.

Elan are basically immortals so you get the pseudo-lich feel already but due to that you could play one who is Venerable Age which never takes the physical downsides and has a floating +2

We roll for stats (4d6, Drop the Lowest, Reroll 1s)
I figured
Str: 10
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 20 (18+2)
Wis: 12
Cha: 18

I put the 18s in Cha and Int due to well spells and DCs and the DCs of the Exploits if I take those, if not I am just that damn goodlooking.

Which race is a better fit? The spell stealing is awesome but the additional +3 is cool, being able to go without food or drink is awesome too in the right situations.

I was curious if Untouchable Rager and Spelleater archetypes stack. They do not replace the same things. But if Untouchable Rager says "This ability replaces the spells, blood casting, eschew materials, and bloodline spells class features."

Does this mean there are not spell slots for Spelleaters "a spelleater can consume spell slots for an extra dose of healing."

Spells normally, pretty much always, include spell slots but it does not say you lose those spell slots, just you have no spells to fill them.

Would this work together?

Ok so I am making a Gestalt character for a game and I was reading the Bow Nomad racial archetype and being able to dual wield bows is kind of awesome.

So I am rolling on this at 5th level.

Now combining these two classes give me two sources of spells, which is a bonus as some are really nice for archers.

Warpriest is not Full BAB but Ranger is, Warpriest has sacred weapon which can be my bows which increase their HD which goes up further with things like Lead Blades and so forth I believe.

I could take Divine Protection and gain my Cha to saves, which are all good saves due to Rangers Reflex. Now yes I will not have a lot of Cha but it will still be an additional +1 or +2 to saves which could be really helpful later in the game.

What feats should I focus on? I get free Weapon Focus (Bows) because of Warpriest and I get Point Blank Shot from Ranger.

Ok so I had someone bring to me this idea, it was a player who sometimes pitches me ideas for event bosses or just random and fun ideas.

Ghoran
Which by itself is cool.
He suggested that the party might run into an area where a guardian of the forest or grove exists. Something with some serious power to knock the players around a bit. This is not for the game he is in, I am running a concurrent game with other players (Most of the same party, he cannot play in that game so he helps out.)

So I thought that was cool I figured a Groot like character a Lame Wood Oracle would be nice and have some power. Maybe add Advanced onto him to make him a little stronger along with just being a higher level.

Then he shows me Green Warden
The stats are not as good as Advanced but the abilities are insanely powerful.

Would this be worth it for a boss fight (Non-lethal most likely) with the creature having 1 less level then the party but having all these abilities? I don't want them to just kill off the boss in a few rounds, I want it to become clear that this thing is using non-lethal on them and figure its just trying to keep them away from something or is misunderstanding their intentions.

20 point buy as the party has a 25 point buy. Level 5 to start currently I might hold this off for a few levels.

What concerns me is the Spell-like abilities like Treestride as an at-will. Good lord that could be a TPK set up in a forest setting. You would have more luck fighting Nightcrawler from the X-Men then this guy.

Honestly would be a bad-ass PC for the next time I PC rather then game but again holy hell the power boost of this guy for a CR +1. I know its third party but it is a clever idea if nothing else.

Ok so say you used the VMC or Gestalt rules. And you gained either Arcane Deed to get Precise Strike or went with Swashbuckler and got Spiked Light Shield.

Would it be worth it to add level to damage with your shield on a Shield champion build?

I know Shield Champion does not work well with VMC as it is feat intensive.

Just a Boy from Brooklyn

I wanted to use that build in a game, running an AP but not sure which yet either Kingmaker or RotRL

But I wanted to add in the VMC for the Bard, so I would lose feats from level 3,7,11, etc

Though I am wondering, can I stop taking VMC levels when I want? I mean if say I got my Inspire Courage from level 7, could I drop the VMC for Bard and just go back to my normal progression?

How can I alter the linked build to allow for at least the first two feat replacements.

I can use Flaws (My DM likes flaws)

Hello all,

So I am making a gestalt character at level 5, and we are using a 25 Point Buy (I dislike point buy but I am not running the game).

My race is Kasatha, this is non-negotiable.
We have made the argeement that Kasatha can wield two two-handed weapons at one time, and would add 1.5 times their strength but only if they could get full strength to off hand, meaning I have to take Double Slice.

So my gestalt is Ranger (Skirmisher maybe)//Cleric
The reason for this is he is a Desert priest who walks the dunes thus the name Dune Drifter.
or Double D as he has been nicknamed.

So feat wise
Two-Weapon Fighting
(Ranger) Double Slice
Power Attack
Endurance (Ranger)
(I don't know what to pick for my fifth level feat, perhaps cleave?)

I can take two flaws to pick up two further feats which I am thinking will be Exotic Weapon Prof for a cool rare weapon, and possibly Weapon Focus or Furious Focus to reduce the penalties for power attack so not to stack it with Two-Weapon fightings -4.

Now can Effortless Lace be applies to one handed weapons that are being two handed, such as a bastard sword or a katana, or elven curved sword? I wonder because it would help to reduce my penalties.

I wanted to keep his armor medium or light.
I plan on using his spells to buff the party and himself, making him just more badass when he draws his two big blades when fights break out.

If I keep Ranger spells I may use those for situation buffs for myself and the party, but the Skirmisher hunter tricks seem fun, which would be better?

This character is LG, though his morale code is alien no pun intended, he follows the morale codes of his people which are strict but could be fun to introduce (All of its homebrew as they have not published enough about them.).

We do allow 3.5 material, but it has to be within reason, so no Divine Metamagic persisting a spell forever and ever. But using a feat from 3.5 or something that doesn't over power the campaign might be allowed on a case by case basis.

I am working on making this character a powerful and feared holy man, basically not quite a paladin but sort of in his determination.

So I wanted to make a gestalt that is basically a very Lich like character at least in the way he revives after being taken down.

As we all known some casters are very squishy as a form of balance, well I say screw that and lets find a way to make them harder to keep down.

Enter the Reincarnated Druid, a druid that at level 5 when killed can reincarnate into a new form. follows an established table but some of the choices are not so bad.

I want my main class, the one I take from 1-20 to be the Arcanist, which I see as a superior class, if you can afford the intense MADness of it. The Int and Cha are hard enough, the Druid now requires at least ok Wis given that at level 5 you only need a 13 to be able to cast those spells.

I am not sure which race I want to take with this however, I can use some 3rd party and I plan on taking advantage of that after 5th level especially with a dip into a 3rd party Scholar class for Int to AC and a free Skill Focus on a single Knowledge roll, a +1 to all Knowledge rolls as well.

So I am stuck with any non metal armor, which seems like it will be a pain, so maybe I will take Kensai Magus after my druid levels (And one scholar level) to gain Int to Ac as a dodge bonus it will stack with the Scholar levels.

So because I can revive from death of old age I am going to start Venerable for that +3 to all mental stats, my physical stats will be reset when I reincarnate so I don't have to worry about the -9 to physical scores.

Any advice on a race that would work best?
Should I burn a feat on Academic Priest feat from Dragonlance which would turn Druid casting to Int rather then Wis.
Should I go some levels of oracle on my other side to add Cha to AC and Initiative?

Edit: the table roll for stats ended with 18, 16, 16, 14, 14, 14

I wanted to make a Kasatha character, the character is a gestalt build focusing on Wis.

I wanted to gestalt the Warpriest with the Ranger, this gives full saves and full BAB and 6+Int. 6 level spells on Warpriest and 1-4 Ranger spells which can be traded for Hunter Tricks.

I was thinking going Champion of the Faith for a NG Paladin like feel using the Kasatha and maybe focusing on either Unarmed or Natural weapons due to the cost of the Kasatha's four weapons.

Fifth Hand of the Chief is a term we created similar to the Hand of the King idea for the Kasatha as every Kasatha lead needs a fifth hand of an ally.

I was wanting to build a powerful Cha focused character and I could not imagine a better more rounded class combo then the Paladin gestalted with the Bard.

It grants 1-4 Divine spells, 1-6 Arcane spells, 6+Int skills, d10 Hd, all good saves, Cha to saves (Making them insane).

Sure I am stuck to Light armor, Mithral Medium armor or so.

But I need help making this character more balanced, I probably won't be going two weapon, I might go Shield and Sword but Archery is also a possible choice.

Race wise I like the Kasatha (even though it gives no bonuses to my class) its 4 attacks a round, with buffs makes this guy a power house to damage output.

Killoren is a good choice, its own unique smiting attack is fun and being Fey means he can be LG but also really fun.

But I am curious how many think an Aasimar would just be better?
What feats are good choices, what traits?

Has anyone ever played any of them, more specifically the Two-Weapon fighter archetype, and the feats of Two-Weapon Panche and Improved version of it.
