I guess that's a no. LOL!
I was wondering if anyone had compiled the creatures from the bestiaries by terrain type? Just a list of names and which book they're in organized by terrain. It would greatly help in creating random encounter tables.
I can't remember off the top of my head. Do any of the bestiaries have elemental templates?
I'm getting ready to start up a campaign after a three year hiatus. I need to pick up Occult Adventures, Ultimate Intrigue, and Horror Adventures first though.
Just curious. I own most of the Pathfinder hardbacks. But I find myself sticking mainly to the core rules and the bestiaries. How many of the various hardbacks and which ones do you use in a typical campaign? Are there just a few you use regularly or do you sample from them all?
I'd love to utilize every hardback in every campaign in some way, but it seems nigh impossible.
Thank for all the suggestions, guys. I'll be running for her this afternoon! :D
I believe that the second part of "Rise of the Runelords" involves a dam. You might want to take a look at that if you have access to it. It might spark some ideas if nothing else. :)
I also wanted to add that she's Lawful Neutral. She played Chaotic Good in Basic Fantasy and really wanted to try something different this time around.
Yeah. I'm not really needing advice on how to run a solo player game. That's not really a problem. Just trying to come up with some good adventure ideas. While Arachnofiend's concerns are valid, they won't be an issue with me. I've been GMing since 89. So I'm good there. I've just never run for a solo monk before, and want to keep the sessions interesting. :D

Great idea, Corvino. I actually remember watching that show when I was a "tween", as the kids call it today. LOL!

DominusMegadeus wrote: ...non-archetype monk? I don't think even a father-daughter relationship could survive running a real campaign on her like that.
I kid, if she really likes Indian culture and the monk-esque mysticism, you could run something that tests her character's discipline and mental strength, something the older monks of her order do when an initiate reaches a certain age.
And I just remembered she's 10 years old. Really depends on how mature she is, I guess. Does she just want to punch stuff? Ask her a little bit.
That's a really good idea. A coming of age trial might be a lot of fun. She's very much a role-player and less of a "roll-player". She's very mature for her age. Probably because she's our only child. When I was running basic fantasy for her, her favorite parts were interacting with the various NPC's. It's fun to run for her. It reminds me of when I was first learning the ropes of D&D. It's very refreshing to run for someone who sees so much wonder in the campaign setting. I'll probably do that though. Some sort of challenge and a mentor in the form of an older monk in the same order as her.
Also, she is a non-archetype. She's just using the corebook and ultimate equipment for her character at the moment.
Hello everyone.
I've finally introduced my 10 year old daughter to the wonderful of role-playing games. We played the heck out of Basic Fantasy, but now she's ready to try something a bit more involved. So now we're playing Pathfinder. She's created a 1st level Vudrani Monk from Jalmeray. She's fascinated with indian culture, so she was immediately drawn to the vudrani humans in The Inner Sea World Guide.
My question is, what kind of adventures should I run for her? I need ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, we're starting off in Osirion. I have all the hard back books for Pathfinder and most of the smaller soft cover books as well.

Change wasn't needed, it was balanced and acceptable. This retroactive crap irritates me.

For what it's worth, I beleive Bestiary 4 has stats for Lucifer in it. Which entry are you referring to? Probably Tome of Horrors Complete, actually. I don't actually have a copy, but I could have sworn that he was in the latest Bestiary when I looked through a friends. Of course...I have a horrible memory. I own Bestiary 4. He's not in there. Which is why I was wondering what entry you were referring to.

Thanks for the speedy response. I'll just have to wing it when statting up cities from the Inner Sea World Guide. Using the listed populations would probably be a good place to start.
I know starting with Kingmaker and onward, the settlements stat blocks use the rules from the GMG. Is it pretty much just the adventure paths that use those rules, or are some of Golarion's cities and towns statted up using the settlement rules in other products?

Thanks for your "Step 3" explanation, Sean. Cracked me right up. :D
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
On page 206 of Ultimate Campaign in the Edict Phase section, Step 3 was left out. It goes from Step 2 to Step 4. Should Step 3 have been "Abandon Hexes"? If not, what was Step 3 supposed to be?
I posted this in the Rules Questions section but no one seemed to know, and my thread got jacked by someone asking other rules questions about that didn't relate to my question. So I thought I'd try it here. Sorry for the second posting.
Yora wrote: Lots of it is already on d20pfsrd.com You'll notice that the Edict Phase as listed on d20pfsrd.com is identical to the wording in UCam. Right down to the missing Step 3.
Edict Phase of Kingdom Building on d20pfsrd.com
This is why I am confused. We really need someone to step up and set this straight. Guess we'll probably have to end up waiting for the errata to be compiled.

So if it's a numbering error, then that means all the steps after step 2 need to be rolled back by one. I was reading the example in the Edict Phase and it seems the example follows suit with the phases being messed up. I don't know for sure. I'm hoping someone who knows beyond the shadow of a doubt will chime in and let us know whats going on.

Also, where do we stand on getting a PDF of the various sheets for printing? |
The Kingdom Sheets and Army Sheets specifically.
Got mine in the mail today. Everything appears to be in order. No missing pages from what I can tell. And no pages from other books. I'll finish checking it out in a bit. Hoping I dodged that bullet.
I've heard a few people say the paper quality of this book isn't as good as previous books. A friend said the paper is matte as opposed to the usual glossy stuff. Can anyone else confirm?
Chris Lambertz wrote: Evil Genius Prime wrote: I'd like to know this as well. I never buy the PDFs. So it would be great if the sheets were being put out as a separate PDF that could be printed off. And for those that don't have access to a copier and own a hard copy?
Is there a chance of the sheets being put out as a standalone pdf? I'd like to know this as well. I never buy the PDFs. So it would be great if the sheets were being put out as a separate PDF that could be printed off. Does anyone on the Paizo Team know if this will be the case?

The reason for experience is to constantly feel some sense of accomplishment from your play since it's a game. You could do nothing else and just get XP and that has a psychological impact of reward even if you got nothing else. It has nothing to do with making sense along the lines of "it's a cheap trick to stroke egos." It has to do with the psychology of gameplay.
Also level by checkpoint style progression requires players stay on rails. If they jump the rail and go off on a tangent for a while they should be rewarded for what they did during that time. Once they come back to the rail then you need to re-evaluate your levelling points as they will no doubt feel off from the progression you had planned. If you artificially stagnate levelling while off rails then you're taking away one of the core ways players are rewarded for play: levelling up. I could be wrong, but I think he may have meant "Why track experience for NPCs?"
Yeah. The description in the Inner Sea World Guide says... "What was once a woman now towers as a monstrosity of ectoplasmic flesh, horns, and a tremendous scythelike claw"
Nothing about entrails are mentioned. I think some of you are thinking of the picture of Urgathoa herself on page 41 of Gods and Magic.
James Jacobs wrote: The way I would handle this would be to pick one of the parents and use the half-dragon template to generate the offspring. It's the easiest solution, and it's the most logical solution.
So a blue dragon that mates with a black dragon would produce either:
A half-blue dragon black dragon. Or a half-black dragon blue dragon.
I wouldn't call it a "Half-blue dragon black dragon" except in its stat block; it's actual name would either be the half-dragon dragon's name or some color combination, like a "midnight dragon" or an "indigo dragon."
This is how I've always handled it.
Aelryinth wrote: the reason horizontal walls of force is not allowed is the 100% certainty that someone will try a 'decapitation' manuver with one, and there are no rules for taking damage for running into an invisible wall of force edge-on.
==Aelryinth
The speed at which you'd need to be traveling to be decapitated by said wall of force would have to be pretty fast. Otherwise you'd just be knocked prone. It would be like running into a clothesline. There's never been anything in the rules to suggest that a Wall of Force is unnaturally sharp. So it stands to reason that you'd need to be moving very fast for it to decap anyone.
Yeah, I think the Arabian Niiiiiiiiiights area should be renamed "Walk Like an Egyptian". :D

I love how The Steaming Sea is titled "Nobody Cares". LOL!

Or just don't treat your girlfriend any differently than you would any OTHER new player just trying to get into RPGs.
Steer her into one of the classes that doesn't require a lot of system mastery to be good.
Bards, Rangers, Fighters, Barbarians, Heal/Buff Clerics, etc. Keep her away from Rogues (it won't be her fault when she sucks with one) and Wizards (they're a bit complex for a complete newbie).
Have some other fairly new players around.
This. This indeed.
Why not just stick with the Rules Cyclopedia? Or if you don't want to do that, give Basic Fantasy a try. It's free! Plus I'm a little partial to it since my name is in the credits. :D

This is the way we do it in all of my games. Say you have Darkvision out to sixty feet. Now say you have a 20 foot illumination light source. You would see color in the 20 foot area that is lighted. Beyond that, you'd see in black and white up to your range of vision. In this case, you'd see black and white for another 40 feet beyond the light.

According to James Jacobs, there's one gay male Iconic, one gay female Iconic, one transsexual Iconic, and one bisexual Iconic (and that there could "well be more"). That implies that the remaining Iconics, notwithstanding those "more," are heterosexual. Will we ever find out officially which one is which? I'm excited to know. I'm very glad that the Paizo crew decided to include characters who aren't heterosexual. It's very progressive. :D
