It's been several weeks since the party left Brevoy, financed by a mysterious benefactor that offered them support to establish a buffer territory between the northern kingdom and the River Kingdoms.
Their knowledge of the identity of this person is practically non-existent, they know he had enough power to get them a charter allowing them to hunt bandits in the Stolen Lands, and it's signed by a representative of house Surtova.

The rain keeps falling down on the group as they finally sight the rotting palisade surrounding Oleg's post. The mud sucks down their boots with every step they take, their feet get wet and cold as they walk towards the post.
The closed gates seem barely able to stop animals from getting in but anyone with enough determination would get through them in a few minutes. The smoke coming out of the chimney in one of the buildings inside the post brings the promise of a warm hearth.

Welcome everyone.

This being an evil campaign I feel I must set some things clear before we start.

First, you may be evil not IDIOTS, by that I mean, betraying your allies for little reason, killing people just for fun, and that short of thing are out. I will enforce this if I must but I trust we're all adult enough to play evil but believable character.
Second, since the group are not paragons of virtue some enemies may be, but others will be WORSE than you, expect to fight the kind of characters that are beyond redemption, a bandit may be put to work for you, but their leader surely would be the kind of sick bastard even you feel needs killing.
Third, I feel one of the main pros of an evil campaign is that evil can be PROACTIVE, by that I mean, if you want your character to plan something long term you can either discuss it over here or PM me and we'll do our best to incorporate it to the game.
Fourth, as I said your enemies will be BAD MEN, but if anyone has some kind of thing they absolutely don't want to see in game please tell me so I can avoid it.

Now, I hope we all enjoy the game and have lots of fun. I'll put up a IC post later today so you can dot it, and am hoping to start the campaign as soon as everyone has confirmed they're in.

Have you always wanted to play Kingmaker but are too evil to do it?
Are you the kind of player who when confronted by a bunch of bandits bribes them to kill their boss and work for you?
Do you think evil overlords minions get the most stylish clothes and that a castle surrounded by a lava moat and defended by skeletons is just your dream home?

Look no further, this is the Recruitment Thread for you!

Evil_DM_Keddah Presents:

KINGMAKER: The not actually Grimdark Version

For too long Brevoy has financed adventurers to come to the River Kingdoms to bring civilization and order, well, NO MORE!
A mysterious benefactor has recruited a party of adventurers to create a buffer kingdom to stop their meddling.
But first, they have to get rid of that Stag Lord and his incompetent bandits...

A game of high stakes, heavy roleplaying and low rolls (because I'm a jinx, sorry)

I'm looking for Evil or Neutral characters, no psycopaths unable to work as a team, please, the game may allow PbP but only if perfectly justified and agreed by everyone involved.
This will be a mature game where the bad guys have to be even badder than you, and the good guys are your enemies too!

Are you still interested? Well let me disclose a couple things.

First, a confession: I already tried this approach once, several years ago, but real life got in the way. My circumstances have changed (I don't ride on a bike anymore) so the same thing won't happen again!
Second, a learning: If one player keeps the evil turned up to eleven everytime he interacts with the rest of the party he makes the game unenjoyable for the rest, so please, try to avoid such a behaviour.

Are you STILL interested?

Okay, let's get to the rules.

Character Rules

  • Starting Level 1
  • Point Buy 20
  • Core Races Allowed, featured and uncommon on a case by case basis.
  • All Paizo Classes Allowed
  • Feats from Core sources are allowed, other sources on a case by case basis.
  • Maximum starting HP and Wealth.
  • Two traits per character (no drawbacks).
  • Background Skills allowed.

    Concept and Background

  • I need a synopsis of the character personality to see how they'd fit in the campaign.
  • No need for a loooooong background as long as you have an explanation of how you came to the River Kingdoms.
  • Character must be willing to work as a team, sometimes they may go solo but I don't want lone wolf characters, please.
  • Once the party is completed we'll work on the discussion thread how you came to know each other

    Players

  • Knowledge of the setting will be welcomed but is not a must-have requirement.
  • Posting once a day during weekdays is expected, I understand weekends are more difficult (they are for me at least).
  • If a player doesn't post for 24 hours after his turn came during combat I will take control of the character until he is able to do so.
  • If a player doesn't post for a whole week without warning his character will become an NPC.
  • Players are expected to push the game forward, taking the initiative and leading the way. If you want your character...

I expect your evil submissions eagerly.

    MWAHAHAHA! sorry.

  • I'm opening this thread to check for interest on a urban based, low level, small group, roleplay heavy campaign.

Currently I'm thinking of a 3 member party, all of them able to be useful outside combat. The setting would probably be Forgotten Realms, a Sword Coast city most probable since it's the one I'm more familiar with.

I'd want players interested in a game with a lot of social interaction and able to take the lead instead of needing to be prodded forward, the nature of the campaign would be heavily sandbox while not leaving the City Walls for long.

Classes and archetypes that shine in urban adventures would be preferred but if you think your Cave Druid concept can work... you can try and convince me.

Welcome everyone, thank you very much for joining in this adventure.

First I'd like everyone to tell me what they expect from the game (either through here or a private message) so I can try to meet your hopes.

    And now, to the meat:

If you don't mind I'd like your posts both on the OOC thread and the IC thread to be made with your Alias to avoid making things confusing.

    About the DM rolls:

I do most dice rolls in the open. I just keep for myself those for NPC's bluff checks and for those characters I don't want you to know their stats (main NPCs mostly) I also prefer to do your Sense Motive rolls if you don't mind, you just call for a roll and I make it and tell you if you find something out. I think this helps the mistery and makes for a more enjoyable experience but I'm open to suggestions.

On the IC thread sometimes I'll post things like :

    Perception DC 15:
    Hah! Made you look.

I do this to speed things up, so you don't have to wait for me to answer after your rolls, I trust you won't have a look if you didn't pass the check, and if you do yo will be able to keep Player Knowledge and Character Knowledge separate.

    About the writing IC:

I personally favour present tense, the usual Bold for talk, Italics for thoughts, Bigger for shouting, Smaller for whispering, and spoilers with the language name for things said in a language other than common.
And I hate @anybodys... I don't think "writing says X to Y" is so much effort

They fought at least a dozen of those mammoth rodents, and came out almost unscathed. They're certainly an admirable bunch the small human dressed in fine garments in charge of the Golden Goblet explains to a young noble the reasons the group sitting at a table in the inn common room are allowed to stay in the usually exclusive inn. Are they available for hire? I happen to need thome capable handth asks the young man with a strong lisp I suppose they would be my lord, after all the Ratplague seems to have been brought to an end and the city is brimming with adventurers the nobleman hands a coin to the innkeeper and moves to the table where the party is enjoying their meal Good thirth I reprethent a conthortium needing able handth for a dangerouth job. I take you would be available to hire

...as a dog I swear to you! I'd never seen such a big rat! And these heroes faced them and earned their drink and lodgings for the tenday. Oleg, the innkeeper at the Overflowing Goblet, tells the story for the third time this night while gesturing to the table where an eclectic group of adventurers sit. The crowd reacts with indifference for the third time in the night and one of them shouts back I heard the rats peed in your beer Oleg, and it's certainly improved it! the joke is received with raucous laughter by the patrons, the barmaids and even the own innkeeper. A halfling barmaid looking tired approaches the table and asks the sitting party Will you have anything else?

I'm opening this thread to check for interest on a game based on the Forgotten Realms.

The game would take place on 1372DR, the standard 3.X starting date.
The characters would be members of an adventuring company currently resting after their first adventure (the legendary Slaying of the Rats under the Inn) in Arrabar (Chondath)

The game would follow the group on their adventure throughout the Realms for a time before they get involved on a conspiracy to rid Faerûn of one of it's main villains.

I would want characters of good or neutral alignment to fit the idea of the campaign on my mind.

It's a cold and windy evening in Restov. The rain seems to have stopped for a few minutes and people try to get to their homes before it resumes.

The taverns and inns are bustling with activity, everybody wants to find out more about the rumours of a bold move by the local nobility to try and reclaim the Stolen Lands. Tomorrow's night a great ball will be celebrated and among the guests are strange people and foreigners.

After a long time away from these forums I'm back and with a vengeance.

I'm interested in GMing a campaign based heavily on Kingmaker, my intention would be to keep it more focused on the mundane difficulties of founding and mantaining a kingdom letting the Fey aspects of the original campaign take a lesser role.

The campaign would start on Restov, and take its first steps there. Once the characters have something of a reputation they will be chosen to take part on the Reclamation of the Stolen Lands.

What I want from the Players:

At least posting once a day, more will be welcomed. I understand real life can get in the way but please try to give warning if possible. I will try to wait for you to post but if you don't may take control of your character. If a player is dissapeared for a whole week with no warning the character will become an NPC.

I want players willing to take the initiative, to explore the sandbox of Kingmaker, make choices, advance the plot and create plot on your own. I feel I'm a much better GM when the players are invested in the campaign and show it and would like to take advantage of that.

What I want from the Characters:

I want characters that feel interesting, no need to be a complete snowflake but having a couple plot points would be most welcome. I will take my decision based on the backstories and personalities of the characters so you can take care of that part before even getting onto the crunch... but if you like the crunch...

    Crunch:

No 3rd party material, sorry, I'd like to keep the game confined to things I already know

    Races All core and featured
Classes All classes will be accepted. Archetypes will be considered on a case by case basis.
Alignments Good characters are preferred, Neutral characters will be considered, Evil character are a No-No I'm terrible Gming for them.
Feats All Core Books, other sources will be considered on a case by case basis.
Traits Characters should choose two traits. An aditional trait will be given based on the backstory.
Abilities 20 point buy, no ability beyond 18 none below 9 before racial modifiers
    Starting gold Standard starting gold.
Other things Although the first few days of the adventure will take place on an urban environment the bulk of the campaign will follow a more similar story to the standard Kingmaker. So don't create a character unable to survive the wilds :)

I hope there will be interest in this game. I intend to pick four adventurers but if there are not enough of too many interesting prospective characters I may change my mind.

If you have any doubts, advice, suggestions or anything I'm more than willing to listen.

Well, since we have lost two of our players to the ravages of real life I am reopening recruitment for my ongoing campaign, an alternate take at Kingmaker. I'm looking for players interested in a roleplay heavy game, character driven campaign with lots of intraparty interaction and some conflict. Divine casters will have and edge for getting in but selection will depend mostly on background and personality.

The character creation rules are the following:

    - Races All core classes and those from bestiaries I and II. That said I may have some bias towards core races, but if you have a great idea for a tiefling or a ifrit I'd love to see it.
    - Classes All classes and archetypes from the Core Rulebook, APG and UM. UC classes and archetypes are game as long as they are in the d20pfsrd.
    - Alignments All alignments are allowed, once more I have some bias towards good or neutral, but any interesting evil character will be considered.
    - Feats All Core Rulebook, APG and UM feats are good. UC and other sources depend on being on d20pfsrd and GM approval.
    - Traits Characters should choose two traits.
    - Abilities 20 point buy, no ability beyond 18 none below 9 before racial modifiers
    - Starting gold Standard starting gold

I have to warn that real life is taking its toll on my posting rate too, so although I try to post several times a day I may be unable to do it sometimes. Oh and weekends I barely post at all.

    The Original Recruitment Thread.
    The Gameplay Thread.
    The Gameplay Thread.

There will be at least one character selected, may be two depending on submissions. I'm not giving a deadline yet.

Now that I've got the taste of PbP Gamemastering and got addicted to it I have decided to use a select group of volunteers as my guinea pigs for a homebrew campaign based in Forgotten Realms. This will be a test run for a long term campaign I'm writing for my IRL group.

    The Setting: The Forgotten Realms:

What can I tell about Forgotten Realms that most of you don't already know?. It's a high magic, high adventure setting inhabited by some of the most recognisable characters of modern fantasy literature, Drizzt Do'Urden, Artemis Entreri, Elminster Aumar, The Bhaalspawn.

The game will begin in the area known as the Sword Coast specifically in the Friendly Arm Inn, a crossroads in between Baldur's Gate, Beregost and Candlekeep.

The timeline will start at 1.372 DR, a few weeks after Bane's return. Consider it placed as of 3.0 Campaign Setting.

    The Characters: Rules:

    - Starting level: 6
    - Races: All core races allowed, Bestiaries I & II races depending on DM consent.
    - Classes: All classes from Core, APG and UM allowed. All Paizo archetypes allowed. Other classes upon consideration
    - Alignmentes: All alignments allowed, will try to keep a group with compatible alignments.
    - Feats: All Core, APG and UM feats allowed. Other Paizo feats upon consideration.
    - Abilities: Point buy 20, no ability over 18 or under 9 before racial modifiers.
    - Traits: 2 traits, no regional traits.
    - Money: Level 4 wealth

    The Characters: Background:

Now this is the most restrictive part of the game, characters must be seasoned adventurers who have never been able to hold onto their triumphs, be it because they have always failed, because other people took credit for their feats, or because they just felt uneasy with it.

    Backgrounds requisites will be:
    Reason for first adventuring.
    Reason for keeping adventuring.
At least one enemy, one friend, a one old adeventuring mate (friendly, unfriendly, dead...)
    An objective.
    Anything else you think of.

    The Players:

I expect players interested in a heavy roleplay game, able to post AT LEAST once a day but with a preference for those that will do it more often. I will try to take a look at the candidates previous history but will not exclude players new to PbP.

    The GM:

I am a very experienced IRL Player and Gamemaster still getting his footing in PbP but heavily enjoying it. I will try to let the characters bend the story but sometimes will try to redirect it. I am not too experienced with Pathfinder and have been accused by my IRL players of being a Killer DM when creating original encounters... but I am not! Honest!

I will try to post several times everyday but Real Life will always trump gaming, if I can't post for several days I will try to warn you in advance. I hope I can keep with this game since it's a campaign that has been in my mind for a long time.

Ah, English is not my native language so I may make mistakes, feel free to correct me, I won't feel offended and I hope it will help me improve.

I won't be accepting submissions with no background although I will answer if questions about a concept are made before writing the actual background. I'm not fixing a closing date for submissions since I don't know how much interest to expect.

I hope many people are interested!

It's been several days since you accepted the offer of King Irovetti of Pitax to take on a bold endeavour to civilize the lands southwest of his kingdom. As you go to the ceremony were you'll been publically given this duty you think about the reasons for taking on it. Around you the Academy of Grand Arts boils with activity. It's servants run all around the place trying to make sure the guests of King Irovetti are well served. One of the bigger halls, normally used for theater performances has been accomodated for a ceremony where Pitax's Ruler has summoned a small group of adventurers with intentions unknown to the high ranking citizens that have been invited to attend to it. The singers and musicians make their best efforts to exalt Irovetti's rule, but anybody who had seen true artists would know their works were mediocre at best. As you come a chamberlain announces your name to the crowd and directs you to a table to sit at while waiting for the King to make his appearance

I'm so glad to see so many of you lovely people here tonight, and I would especially like to welcome all the representatives of the Pathfinder Community who have chosen to join me here in the Paizo PbP forum at this time. I do sincerely hope you'll all enjoy the show, and please remember people, that no matter who you are, and what you do to live, thrive and survive, there are still some things that make us all the same. You, me them, everybody, everybody.

    Everybody likes some rolling!

    Now let's get started.

About the rolls, I do most dice rolls in the open.

About the combat encounters, I'm thinking about using maps hosted in google docs for the encounters but being my first PbP DMing I don't know how that will work, do any of you have experience or proposals for this? If you all agree I will need an email address. Mine is "DM dot Keddah at gmail dot com"

About the story, I want you to take the lead, I insist. I may have several ideas in my mind but this is your land to tame, destroy or improve. I'm more than willing to find a place for your cool ideas, "So you say your character has heard of a dragon's hoard? Well surely there's one, but it won't be easy getting to it" "What? That man that just arrived in town is strikingly familiar to your lost long grandnephew you just invented a couple of days ago? Well, I'll be damned, what were the odds?"

I want interesting characters, I want awesome stories, but more than anything I want fun.

And now that I've got that out, please, would you be so nice and make a little introduction to your character (fluff & crunch wise) and tell me, What do YOU want from this game?

I'll get back to you with more info on the fluff of the campaign soon.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The sound of the crowd outside barely reachess your ears despite half of Restov's population having come to watch the ins and outs in the ball. The music and the talk of the attendees fills your head. The wine is good, the food is better. The waiters are handsome and the waitresses pretty. It's quite clear that this is as much a party to show support to the quest to tame the Stolen Lands as it's a show for the nobility to enjoy. You've been introduced and been told your names will be called and you'll have to come to the main table to receive your charters from the Major of Restov himself. The woman who told you also insinuated that you may want to decide on a name for your group.

There are several other parties in the ball.

    Knowledge (Local) DC 15:
The other parties are the Iron Wraiths, a mercenary company led by Maegar Varn a minor noble, and a third party formed of high ranking military and diplomats

    Knowledge (Local) DC 20:
The Iron Wraiths have been assigned to the Glenebon Uplands, west of the area assigned to the party. Maegar Varn's mercenaries have been assigned the Nomen Heights east of the area assigned to the players and known for it's centaur tribe. The las party has been assigned to the Slough, the mos important route south of Brevoy.

Knowledge (Local) DC 25 or Knowledge (Nobility) 15:
Maegar Varn is known for being a no-nonsense kind of leader, not being outsider to violence to reach his goals. He is expected to get the control of his house once his father dies despite not being the eldest brother.

Welcome everybody to Kingmaker! I hope we have a very interesting, fun and creative game. I would like every player to make a little introduction of his character (both story and stats wise) so we all know what we're playing for.

I hope it's not asking for too much but please post always in alias to make it less confusing and please have the stats and backstory in the alias profile so I have easy access to it.

Welcome once again! Let's get ready for the adventure!

I'm about to start a Kingmaker campaign, seeing that there area a lot of really interesting candidates I've thought to create this. A campaign happening parallel to the AP but homebrew. It will take place in a different area of the Stolen Lands (yet to decide, may take a few liberties with the maps if needed) where a different party will be given a similar charter to that of KM and tasked with taming the wilderness equally. The game will start simultaneously with my other campaign, and I'm thinking they may cross paths sometimes.

I'm looking for players able to post at least once a day and who like heavy roleplay games. I'll be taking submissions until september 17th 22:00 GMT+1. I don't mind player's submitting the same or different characters for both, but if it's the same character please state which game you'd rather get in.

I'm warning you all, when I create a campaign I'm considered by my IRL players to make them very challenging and treat mature topics so if you don't like any of those things I'm sure there are better PbPs for you.

    - Traits Characters should choose three traits, one of them being from the KM Player's Guide. Same sources as for everything else.
    - Abilities 20 point buy, no ability beyond 18 none below 9 before racial modifiers
    - Starting gold Standard starting gold
    - Other things The game will start in a ball in Restov where several groups have been brought before sending them in a mission to tame the wild Stolen Lands, a good reason for your character to be given such task will be a plus for it.

Hoping this one gets so many players interested as the other one
    Kingmaker Pbp

So seeing that there seems to be a shortage of PbP GMs, I've decided to give it a try with something I've DMed IRL. I'm looking for six brave adventurers willing to tame the Stolen Lands and establish a prosperous realm... or at least willing to try. I'm new to PbP DMing and not so experienced in playing it (At least playing Pathfinder PbP) so I hope you can be forgiving and I'm open to suggestions and advice.

I like my IRL games to be heavy in the roleplaying aspect, and I think PbP makes it easier so I expect lots of IC interaction and will prefer characters with potential for it. I want players able to post at least once a day, if it's twice or more I think I can handle it, if you're not sure if you can keep that pace, maybe this isn't the game for you. We'll be playing the magnificent 6 player conversion found in these very same forums and I intend to steal lots of great ideas from the Kingmaker boards.

Backstory will be the main aspect I'll be looking into, but well rounded and interesting builds may give you an edge. If you know how you want your build to progress I'd like to know it so I can prepare.

Now let's go to the crunch.

    - Feats All Core Rulebook, APG and UM feats are good. UC and other sources depend on being on d20pfsrd and GM approval.
    - Traits Characters should choose three traits, one of them being from the KM Player's Guide. Same sources as for everything else.
    - Abilities 20 point buy, no ability beyond 18 none below 9 before racial modifiers
    - Starting gold Standard starting gold.
