Guys, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I have *just* landed one of my dream jobs.

The bad news is that it is over 40hrs/week and so my gaming time will be severely hampered. I am sorry to say that I will have to withdraw from the game, but I've thoroughly enjoyed playing with all of you and I hope you have great fun going forward! I hate to give up on a Forgotten Realms game, but something has to give. Happy adventures!

Well, I'm sorry to lose you but... CONGRATULATIONS! I hope everything goes perfectly on your new job and you enjoy yourself!

I may get some chances to post but I'm not sure how many. So if I don't post much during that time don't think I've abandoned you!

As the creature moves to strike Gavin both Kyli's axe and Menrozzar's flail strike it, with a huge cry the body seems to implode for a second and then from the chest burst a purple worm, almost as long as a human is tall. On the groun the clothes and armor cover the empty skin of what once was a man.

The creature gets behind the bard and tries to bite Gavin's neck but it's too slow. The other thing grabs his sword with both hands and tries to get advantage of the distraction but the archeologist is to swift for its slash.
Creature #1 Bite: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5
Creature #2 Sword: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13
Wow... dice are not my friends...

One of the creature has left its body behind, both are flanking Gavin

Kalima moves close to the bandits These idiots seem unable to learn they're not fit to face ME as she moves her hands and intones an arcane lithany. As she extends her hand a cone of changing colors appears in front of ther and catches both bandits, one of them seems unaffecte but the other falls to the ground unconscious Take that you filthy knaves!

Color Spray catching Bandits #2 & #3 Will Save DC 15
Bandit #2 Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Bandit #3 Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

The wounded creatures cry in pain as the one facing Gavin says something to the other and they turn towards the halfling.

Abyssal:
[b]This one has cold iron! Let's damn his soul first and then get rid of the rest of these mortals[/b

Kyli and Menrozzar you both get AOO as he leaves your threatened area

The sailors under deck set hammocks for the party, they seem to give Garborn a wide berth seeing him covered in sahuagin blood.
Young Will approaches Khaz and says Sir, is travelling with you and your friends always so dangerous? Cos I may try my luck as a beggar in the first town we reach if it is! he smiles for the first time since he left the jail at his own joke.

Captain's Cabin:
Nassir thinks for a few seconds as he serves two glasses of golden wine and offers one to Laijiri Well... she seemed disgusted at everything around the docks, I wondered why she hadn't sent a servant to bring the chest. he turns back to work on the lock Could you lend me a hand? Hold this here he works for a few more seconds on the lock Mask's dark shadow, this is a tough one he mutters THERE! he smiles as the lock makes an almost inaudible click. He turns to Laijiri, sweat on his forehead Now my lady, please step back, you don't set a lock like this and leave it at that, I have an old memento that we can use to open this he says as he readies a collapsable ten foot pole.

You can post of you want. I'll bot them later today if they don't post.

The captain thinks about Calamys' words. Well, I'll make sure some of my men keep watch to raise a cry if anything happens. he gestures towards Laijiri and smiles Now if you'll accompany me my lady

Laijiri:
Once inside the cabin the smile drops of Nassir's face and his shoulders slump as he relaxes. Sorry my lady but I needed to keep you out of my men's sight, a storm, a sahuagin attack and a woman on board, the idiots were sure to think there's some relation he gets a hammock out of a drawer and starts tying it to a post You can have the bed, I'll sleep here, no need to keep watch, there's an alarm on my door, if you need to leave for anything the word is Khōlā after he finishes tying the hammock he rummages through his drawers Where did I leave them he murmurs. Here! he says as he gets a leather pouch out I'll set to work on that lock, I need to know what is in that chest before I'm killed for it

The sailors set hammocks for the rest of the party to sleep on.

Teuni's arrow pierces the bandit's leg before he has time to react.
Two of the bandits drop their bows and unsheathing their short swords try to gang up on Sams You f!*$ing idiot, I's gonna murder you!. The brawler avoids the first attack but can't do the same with the second one.
Bandit #1 Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9
Bandit #2 Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16
Bandit #2 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Another bandit raises his bow and shoots an arrow against Ahto impacting against the inquisitor's arm.
Bandit #3 Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Bandit #3 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

The last bandit readies his bow looking for whoever is attacking them from inside the forest and once he spots Teuni he lets his arrow fly, it barely gives the lizardman a scratch.
Bandit #4 Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Bandit #4 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Wonky's up!
Then Kalima and Paval (both botted unles they post soon)

Kyli's axe cuts through one of the arms of the creature and a foul viscous liquid exits thorugh the wound as the demon turns towards her and tries to stab her with his sword but Menrozzar's flail clashes with it protecting his friend.

The vermlek facing Gavin cuts deftly against the halfling striking his back, the bard feels a cold sensation where the serrated blade touched his skin.

Vermlek #1 Attack Against Kyli: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Vermlek #2 Attack Against Gavin: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Vermlek #2 Critical Threat: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Nassir looks at the chest Well... I have a few tricks up my sleeve if push comes to shove and maybe the magnificent lady Laijiri could stand guard in my cabin to make sure it's safe he says.

Sams shoulder hits the leading bandit's chest knocking the air out of his lungs.

Teuni is up

Kleth Shleth wrote:

FYI, my plan is to cast Bless next round, based on my Knowledge check, Kleth believed that Light was the more prudent immediate action.

Really enjoying this group!

Taking out of the equation that 20% miss chance is a good idea in my opinion too.

Gavin's attack hits the creature that turns hissing as the rotting head of the body it occupies explodes in a mist of blood and flesh and the wormlike tongue opens as a stinking bulbous purple flower, the thing is clearly hurt.

Kyli is up, then the Vermleks

Captain Nassir smile fades as he stares at the group discussing using the sahuagin corpses as bait. You realise there's a storm coming? I would prefer not to have sharks around if one of my men falls over board, not that the cowards don't deserve it! his golden teeth show up again The hole is boarded as good as it will be, and if you're hungry we have dried biscuits and rice ready for supper

An arrow coming from the forest strikes the bandit doing the talking from behind. They all begin preparing their weapons

Round 2

Kyli strikes the creature with all her might but most of the strength behind her attack seems to be absorbed by the thing's skin. It turns towards her and lunges with the serrated sword in its hand but she parries its attack as it gets distracted by the impact of Kleth's magic.

Gavin's strike misses the creatures and Oryx dies too. A weird and foul smelling wormlike tongue appears in its mouth as it tries to slash at the dwarf and wounds his back.

Gavin miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 15
Kyli miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 33
Creature #1 Attack on Kyli: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Creature #2 Attack on Oryx: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Creature #2 damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Kleth's knowledge check:
Kleth identifies the creatures as Vermleks, demons with wormlike visage that use dead bodies as hosts and admit. They have the usual resistance to damage of demonic creatures that can be overcome by cold iron or good aligned weapons. They are also resistant to most energy damage and poison and physical damage. Their main weakness is the fact the bodies they possess are slow and clumsy under their control.
He also realises that the lack of light gives demonic creatures the advantage as they usually have darkvision

Current situation
Kyli and Menrozzar flanking creature #1
Gavin and Oryx flanking creature #2
10' between both groups.

Kleth and Menrozzar are up!

She'll be a bot for the time being. We may try to recruit a new one in a few days but right now I barely have time enough to GM the games I have running, can't make a new recruitment just yet.

The four bandits leave their hiding spots, shortbows ready. We ain't rabbits you c%*%! shouts the bigger one You can pay or you can die and then pay! he pauses when he seems Sams What the f@@% are ya doing with these c!*+s Sams you idiot?!

Sams:
You have met the one talking once, he mocked you and tried to force you to have sex with a goat in what he called an initiation ritual, fortunately you were ordered by Happs to go fetch firewood and it didn't go farther

The captain nods in agreement with Khaz We should do that first, nonetheless I don't know what's in that chest, I was paid to deliver it to Iljak by a noblewoman but she didn't give me its key.

Two of the sailors are boarding the hole in the hull but water keeps trickling in albeit much less.

Remember, if you don't have darkvision you have a 20% miss chance. You can make the roll or let it for me as you see fit
Menrozzar Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 42 No Miss

Both Menrozzar and Oryx strike at their targets but the creatures seem to shake most of the strength behind the attacks. Kleth magic seems more effective as the creature it hits looks angrily towards the wizard.
Now that they see them clearly their bloated faces become evident, their eyes are milky white and a spit trickle falling from their mouths mixed with blood is visible.
The creatures make a weird gesture, similar to a smile by something that doesn't understand what a smile is and swing their serrated swords but Menrozzar deftly avoids the hit and the one against Oryx strikes against his stone shield and fails to wound the dwarf.

Creature #1 Attack against Menrozzar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

The party takes a dirt trail southwest following Sams' lead. The sun and a light breeze make the day nice but dark clouds to the South give warning of a storm coming.

Perception DC 12:
After a bend on the trail there's a small forest. Near where the road enters it a group of four men are trying to hide among the trees but aren't doing a great job

Perception DC 20:
About 30' from the men a lizardman is stealthily approach them from the inside of the forest.

As the sounds of battle subsides some of the sailor come down following their captain. He inmediately order Board that hole! Valkur's wet cock! We'll have to anchor for a while until we can fix that enough to finish our trip. he turns to the party and bows to them I find myself in the company of heroes it seems. You have my thanks but if you don't mind we'll dispose of those bodies, rotten fish is not a nice smell he sees Garborn holding the chest and stares silently for a couple seconds Is there any reason you're holding that? I know I offered a fair payment but I get to choose how I make it, yes? he flashes his golden smile at the tall man.

As they see the charging Chessenthan the two shadowy figures jump down from the caravans an unsheathe wicked looking serrated swords. Now that he is closer Menrozzar can see they're dressed in purple cloth but wearing breastplate under it, there's something off with their faces.
They say something in a weird and gutural language.

Abyssal:
You'll pay the price for your insolence. We'll tear your soul and torture it for eternity

Initiative Rolls
Gavin's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Kleth's Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Oryx' Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Shadowy figures' Initiative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Sams wrote:
Hey, so since the party is asking, how much does Sams know about the bandits? Can he lead the party to a bandit camp?

Sams has been to one of the bandits camps but not the main one. He knows Kressle is the woman leading the bandits in the area but he wasn't with them long enough to meet her or visit their main camp. He could lead them to a location where they set camp every once in a while.

The sun is already high by the time the party is ready to leave Oleg's. Oleg keeps an eye on Sams every minute until they leave I wouldn't trust this man farther than my sword could reach if I were you
As the group crosses Oleg's gates Svetlana chimes in shouting from above the palisade Keep an eye open for Hexa, a huge lizard with another huge lizard as a pet, he's weird, smells funny and drives a hard bargain but is as decent a fellow as you'll meet around these lands she pauses a second And keep Sprocket safe!

Despite Gavin's desperate attempts Malachi's body stays lumped on the ground, his soul having left it already.

Perception DC 15:
A few feet from Malachi's body behind some half rotten wooden boxes is his sword, it's partially corroded as if some kind of caustic or acid substance had covered it.

As Menrozzar turns the corner he sees the caravan standing where they left it and two shadowy figures approaching it from the other side. He can see the horses feel disturbed by their presence and start neighing

As Menrozzar and Gavin leave the tavern they see the few streets completely deserted. Moving towards the alley to the side of the tavern from where the cry came they are face with a dantesque view. Malachi's body lays on a pool of his own blood, a red circle drawn around it. His mouth wide open is filled with a bundled piece of parchment, and the smell of clove lingers in the air.

Teuni-Hexa wrote:

Curious what the bonus traits will be as well~

Also Dm Keddah is my backstory okay? With the being a banished lizardfolk of the Stolen Lands tribe and being familiar with Oleg and Svetlana?

In regards to the latter I am of the assumption that Oleg begrudingly trades with the brutish looking lizardfolk and Hexa has been getting lessons in Scaleless (Common) tongue from Svetlana. Who he regards as a matriarch like firgure. In the 'What she says goes' kind of way.

He is quite odd compared to the rest of his kin. He has also been told off by Oleg in regards to the bandits. Seeing as a lone monster confronting them wouldnt amount to mich if Hexa lost. So thats why Hexa wasn't present at the fight, he didn't want to anger Oleg.

Once i hear back from you i will make my first post.

Backstory is fully approved, as for the custom trait I'll try to get it ready during the week, thing's are still a bit frantic around here :(

As for your character introduction I'll PM you.

Wonky Prong, Jr wrote:
How's the decision-making coming along? I'm hoping we can get back to King-making soon.

Done. If everyone is in agreement one of you should propose taking Sams along to earn his pardon. Then you'd meet Teuni in the surrounding area .Probably a classic in media res where you find him in the middle of an encounter.

A few minutes have passed since Malachi went after the misterious man when a cry of pain is heard even inside the tavern. Every patron stands silent looking into their mugs.

Garborn strike is clumsy an would have been avoided if the creature wasn't caught in a blood frenzy but the sahuagin is careless and pays the price as the sword cuts his head in half.

End of combat, you can all act out of initiative

Alright, It's been difficult choosing but the two characters joining us will be. Sams Tallfellow and Teuni-Hexa.

Please come to the discussion thread to decide how best to introduce you into the adventure

Thanks to everyone who showed interest. If we need anyone in the future or I start another campaign I'll think of you!

Malachi and Oryx take the first watch, same as the previous night. Soon after the others have left they see a shady man go by the street behind the tavern three times in barely ten minutes.

I think something's up with that man. I'll go investigate and you stay here, shall I? says Malachi
Oryx Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Malachi Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Meanwhile inside the tavern
The tavern has a decent selection of ales and warm food. Lem relieved to have a roof over his head has rented all the rooms so everyone can have his own bed for the night. He pays for drinks for the whole party and asks them to sit down with him.
So tell me friends, have you faced creatures such as those hobgoblins often before? Usually when beset by bandits I run or pay up and it was amazing to see the tide of battle turn so quickly back and forth! says the young man.
Magor naps sitting at the table, while Bagor and Dagor turn to listen to the bard playing the fiddle at the back of the main room.

I (Samson Medvedev) think I need GM approval for three of my things. First is the Mooncursed barbarian archetype from Horror Adventures, as it's not on the Core list. Second is Aspect of the Beast, because RAW I don't meet any of the prerequisites. The special line says "[a] character that has contracted lycanthropy can take this feat without having to meet the prerequisites", and I think Sams' situation fits this. Lastly is the Bandit trait from Inner Sea Primer (mistakenly noted in my character sheet as People of the River).

I'll allow all three

Mazhir takes a stab at the remaining Sahuagin and badly wounds its leg.
Attack+flank with Laijiri: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 2 = 19
Spear Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Ok, I'm back.
Sorry for disappearing, my gran had a bad fall and with the summer and everything I was the closest relative to the town where she lives. She's alright (as alright as a 94 years old woman can be after a fall) and my parents have come back from the holidays so I should be able to start posting regularly again.

Thanks for your patience everyone. And a big thank you to Wonky for keeping the Recruitment Thread going.

Now, I'm thinking of getting 2 players in, since we've lost two of our starting characters. I'll PM you all with my thoughts

Hello, I'm back!

First I want to apologize again for my disappearing act, but sometimes RL doesn't give warnings.
Second, I want to thank Wonky for covering me, you can take her answers for creation rules questions as GM word.
Third, I had a look at the submissions last night after getting down the train and have almost made my decision.
I'll answer some questions and if someone wants to update or change something they can do it until tomorrow, then I'll announce the decision.

Feat: Dirty Fighting. Can take Combat Expertise if you prefer.

Also, didn't buy gear because I think of Sams as a captured prisoner without gear, but I'm happy to work out gearing if selected. Good luck to the applicants!

Both allowed.

Ah, missed the bit about core-only Feats. It's not a massive issue for me, but there were two non-core Feats I planned to use for Xan. They're not critical, but I would still like to get them if possible. They're both from the Advanced Race Guide and the first one's mainly taken as a pre-req for the second.

** spoiler omitted **

The only other feats I'd planned on were either basic combat ones or the ones needed as pre-requisites for the Aldori Swordlord prestige class (and they're all in the core book).

Both allowed if you meet the prerequisites.

As the party prepares to leave behind Oleg's walls Aurelius approaches Wonky and gives her a bag Ahto's ass can carry this, you'll get more use of it than I will

No need to take his provisions out Wonky
Shall I go ahead or would you prefer that we finish recruitment first?

The party travels for the rest of the day without any incident, arriving just before dusk at a small village by the name Defler. Lem says Alright, I'll try to get us a place to sleep in the common room of that tavern over there. You'll have to take turns watching the caravan nonetheless, I don't think leaving it alone is a good idea.

The tavern is about 100' from the field where the caravan has stopped
