![]() The Half-Orc hasn't surrendered. But he must tend to the wounded. What's the Boss going to do, kill the unarmed priest in cold blood in the halls of his own temple while he is tending to a wounded man? How rude! At least Brebork has Orc ferocity left in him...there's a CLW vial right there - a spear to pick up for a last attack. Who knows what might happen? When do those other dudes wake up? ![]()
![]() I kind of pictured the sling staff as a kind of cross between a Jai Alai scoop and Lacrosse wicket....you could even catch things in it or pick stones up off the ground with it and throw them....but that is probably not at all how designers envisioned it in the rules...and it's off-topic anyway. Thanks for the responses. ![]()
![]() Well, Bobchuck. I am sorry for being such an ill-informed ignoramous. I do not have the time to research a thousand forums before I care to comment on any given topic I happen upon. I'm just too busy playing the game and living my life, right? But I know you are not REALLY annoyed because if you were you wouldn't have wasted your time responding to the posts in this forum in the first place. I appreciate that you care. Besides, I think that comparing the warrior capabilities of FIGHTERS vs. NON-FIGHTERS (ie. Rangers) is the whole point of this thread in the first place. I guess I am just mixing it up and prolonging your agony by throwing halfling Barbarians and Slingstaves into the mix! lol It seems to me that from the point of view of combat proficiency - the Barbarian slinger has some potential to out-damage even the vaunted Fighter in ranged combat. Adding the huge rage bonus to strength makes the sling more powerful than the composite bow ....and its range allows the mobile Barbarian to utilize her strength while at a safe 80' distance ...before charging in as a mighty switch hitter - for example. It also allows the player to allocate some points in the build to Dexterity rather than to Strength - for better accuracy. And you get a few goodies as a Barbarian like Ranger-style skills. I did look at some forums regarding whether or not a Rapid Fire -like feat can be made to work for the sling staff. It all seemed up in the air. But, Bobchuck, you have read them all - maybe you can enlighten us? ![]()
![]() I am tired of all this archery . The answer for a damage-heavy ranged warrior lies with the Barbarian, no? I mean with a halfling slingstaff. (either as a halfling build or as a human with exotic weapon proficiency - I like the halfling in this case). They get good skills. 1d8 (x3) bludgeoning damage at medium size. That rivals the longbow. Now apply the strength bonus plus the extrea 4 raging bonus and BLAM! (compare that to the "mighty" composite toothpick shooter!) Use the Strong Arm Supple Wrist Trait to increase the range to 100' (10' runup + 10' extra range) - not shabby. And it doubles as a handy club if you are slinging at point blank range and have no time to switch hit. Also, if the sling is loaded ahead of time, your other hand is freed for a buckler or shield and you still get to shoot with no AoO. The sling staff can be used to sling all kinds of things other than just bullets too. I haven't done the math or anything. It just strikes me as a good concept. Has anybody here explored that idea? Now the Barbarian can use his speed or the speed of his mount to whisk into range and back out - while still getting strenghth bonuses on damage...at less risk to himself than melee combat in light armour. ![]()
![]() Instead of using an adventure path I think a sandbox approach would be better. Each DM runs an episode. The next builds on the previous one and takes it somewhere else. How about a Points-of-Light style setting such as Judges Guild/Wilderlands? I would love try it, however I am a real greenhorn at this. I have never DM'd anything before. (I have read alot of Fantasy RPG books though). ![]()
![]() Perhaps the measured pace of a PbP campaign would make it easier for you. You have time to consider each post...there won't be any rushing. Action reads like an action novel. It has to be easier I think. Perhaps the main challenge is controlling the pace...as participants all follow their own clock.,,and it is tough to speed up the action. One idea for consideration. When a critical encounter approaches and you wish to control the pace more..communicate with the players and settle on ad hoc time ranges when everyone will be online at the same time...or perhaps set up encounters for those times. I would love to run a campaign...but I have no DM experience at all...and only just started playing in a PbP campaign. It has been a blast, though. If you do decide to run a Kingmaker...I'm up for it. I'm only a timezone away. As for the typing....I find its the players who do most of the typing! ![]()
![]() This is a cool idea and I am curious to see how this will be run. I am thinking up a character now. It will be a challenge jumping into a 12th level character right away. I have never build a cohort of tribesmen from scratch. Are there established rules somewhere for this? I still do not really understand from your instructions how to build my tribe. 1. How many tribesman do I get and how do assign levels to them? I understand that they all have flat average ability stats. 1/2 are non-combatants. 2. Buy cohort do you mean a single 15-point buy henchman/captain? Please clarify. I have already begun to draw up a character. Thanks. ![]()
![]() I am very interested! If you are looking for a rogue I am willing to commit the time. Please consider Stinky Pete - the skilled, dirty, greedy, gold-grubbing dwarven rogue I have been working on. He may dip into the fighter class once or twice in his career. I would love it if he could use a pick and light hammer as a weapons, however these are only available to martial classes according to the rules...so an exception would have to be made or he would level dip next level. He's not a rapier wielding type of guy, eh? He's a miner! A delver. I haven`t purchased equipment yet. Let me know how I should post the character to you. ![]()
![]() Still recruiting? How about a spot for Ersigen? A sinewy young halfling with an enormous ball of curly brown hair and great bushy sideburns. Good teeth. He is rugged and muscular and knows his way about the fields and woods. He has an affinity for animals and loves dogs. He wears an enormous onion-domed top hat so as to fit his massive 'fro. Great plumes of sweet weedsmoke billow from his long curved pipe and linger in his locks. Began his career as farm hand then stable boy and then as a ranger (lvl 1). Living by an orchard he developed a taste for fruit brandy and he soon set up shop running the farmer's copper still in a little shack at the edge of the forest. He rode the farmer's dogs, hunted in the farmer`s forests and tended to the farmer`s flocks. For cash he collected the farmer`s fruits, fermented them and made brandy for the local yokels. Life was good until one day the foolish lad had a scandalous and ill-advised affair with the farmer's wife as well (and she isn't even a halfling!). Now he's drunk and penniless in Sandpoint and looking for work. But first he has this bottle of hooch to finish. Looking to switch to the rogue class. |
