Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

I'm still here, too.

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

After his initial surprise at the appearance of the dark-elven woman, Elmario seems to shrug off his questions, content to let the mystery unravel itself over time.

Once downstairs, the young man orders a generous helping of the house stew, accompanied by similarly liberal quantities of cheap wine, and it isn't long before the mix of food and alcohol renew the Shelzari's appetite for conversation.

"Well, my new friends," he says happily to the table, "what happy events have brought us all together in this delightful settlement?"

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

"They even object to a little harmless fun?" the Shelzari asks with a raised eyebrow, "they must be quite the bore!"

"Well," he adds, shrugging his shoulders under the weight of his pack, "I should be unpacking, perhaps we'll talk more later."

With that, after allowing a few moments for her response, he turns into the room and flops his bag onto the floor against the nearest wall, only then looking up at his fellow occupants.

When he does, Elmario seems a little taken aback by Xa'nia's appearance, despite his own skin-tone being not dissimilar. For once he seems lost for words, and looks on silently waiting for the situation to develop.

Sunamber: If I remember correctly, the dark elves aren't matriarchal in the Scarred Lands; of course Sunamber might easily be misinformed on the matter, they are pretty much considered to be extinct or mythical by everyone on the surface outside of the Dwarven citadel of Burok-Torn, so all sorts of rumours might be spread about them.

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

"From what I gather," Elmario says, retrieving a small handful of high denomination coins from a pouch he wears beneath his shirt, "we'll get the room for free after we've sorted out this business with the mine, until then this should cover my share for the week."

Gathering from her hesitant speech that the barmaid might be a little uneasy, he offers her what comes close to being a warm smile, though the effect is dulled somewhat by his overly pointed teeth, "So my dear, what entertainments does this town have to offer for three fellows marching off into peril and excitement in the morning?"

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

"Sadly," Elmario grins at the dwarf, putting his hands on the half-elf's shoulders, "it seems that he is... we'll go unpack our things, and you can give us the details as soon as your ready."

Starting to lead Sunamber away towards the room they had secured, he comments cheerfully, "don't worry, I'm sure whatever trouble is at the mines will still be there in the morning. We've only just arrived, let's take a little while to relax, hey?"

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

"You see?" Elmario says, spreading his hands to the half-elf, "didn't I say those beasts can't be trusted?"

"In any case, you're right. This does provide us with an excellent opportunity to establish a reputation for ourselves in this place."

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

"That sounds a fair deal," Elmario smiles to Sunamber after a short consideration of the small amount of funds he had managed to gather before his impromptu departure from Shalzar, "you don't snore, do you?"

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Seeing the two large men jump back from the elven woman, Elmario stifles a chuckle, "I thought the lass might have been biting off more than she could chew..." he comments to his two companions jovially, again seemingly oblivious to the obvious irony in his words, this time of one barely out of his teenage years referring in such a way to a fully grown elf, "a fiery one it seems."

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Elmario wanders behind Sunamber to read the sign, wondering to himself how the size of this settlement had remained hidden from the outside world, or just how quickly it had sprung up.

"So," he asks, "any mention of a tavern?"

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

"Quite true!" Elmario agrees with a laugh, "it does look to be unwise to get on the wrong side of the local authorities in this town."

As Sunamber looks distracted, the Shelzari man follows the half-elf's gaze towards the gate. Sharing the sight, his lips start to curl upwards in an appreciative (though less wide-eyed,) look of his own, but he quickly catches sight of a familiar face and his mouth opens into a sharp toothed grin. "Bahir!" he calls back to the man following behind, holding out a welcoming arm, "There you are, I thought I'd lost you in that damned queue! This fine gentleman is Sunamber, and we're off for a drink, come join us."

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

"Good to meet you, SUNAMBER," the Shelzari answers, taking the extended hand and slipping into the native tongue of his homeland, "you can call me Elmario, and you'll find I rarely turn down a drink."

"I have no objection to forgiveness and mercy, friend," he continues as the two walk into the town in search of a tavern, "but I wouldn't offer it at the expense of our own well being. In curing the disease, you have to be careful not to be bitten yourself, it's often most merciful to put the beast down before it can hurt others."

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Elmario raises an eyebrow to the golden haired half-elf, not particularly surprised to see the symbol of Corean given the abundance of the holy metal bedecking the man. "I would have thought one of your order to understand just what it is that makes those things monsters... allowing them to be neighbourly just gives them further chance to bring back their terrible masters; you don't try to take a rabid dog as a pet."

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Elmario nervously eyes the titanspawn amongst the crowded approach to the township through a narrow parting in his long, black hair that falls to hide most of his face, while his right hand fidgets tensely with a coiled whip hanging from his belt whenever one of them draws close.

"Why are they allowing these monsters here?" he whispers to his neighbours in the queue, the words coming through a mouth with overly pointed canines, and which occupies an unnaturally dark skinned face... whatever irony there is to such a man giving voice to that complaint is apparently lost on him as he finds himself next in line.

"Elmario Benisci, human," he says tersely, his pale green eyes locking with those of the guard, almost challenging him to disagree with the statement as he wipes away his lank hair to reveal his face more clearly.

"It is my business as a security consultant which brings me here to Totenwald, though if your law enforcement is always so..." he waves a long fingernailed hand to the gallows along the road, "efficient, I may find my talents rather unnecessary here."

Sorry about that, got a little distracted.

Figured you were busy celebrating the end of your exams.

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Nightflier, just to be sure, when you were asking if I'd taken a bonus feat for the background, were you implying that I should? If so, I'll take Exotic Weapon Proficiency(Whip), and then I'll be ready since we've not heard much from Solan recently for me to tie into his background.

Bahir, any thoughts on if you want to link our stories at all?

Looks good. Have you taken bonus feat on account of your background?

Not yet.

Is anyone ready for review?

I think I am, except for the link up with Bahir and possibly Solan.

I imagine things might be a little tense between Elmario and Solan (or at least his blade,) perhaps it would be best to have some shared background that'll give us some motivation to put up with each other... perhaps we could have a shared enemy in Jarveed Mayoss?

If Bahir has a need to leave Shelzar discreetly, then perhaps Elmario offered to smuggle him out for a small fee, even going so far as to accompany him personally to ensure everything goes to plan (not that he was planning to leave anyway, of course :P).

Well, you can take them if you wish, but the traits from my profile are much more powerful (for instance, you can get +2 bonus to stat of your choice) and the game assumes that the characters are powerful enough to overcome certain challenges.

Fair enough... since, as you say, the traits in your profile are considerably stronger than the ones in the pathfinder books, would you be okay with me taking just one from your profile (Child of the Streets(Bravo)) along with the two from the books?

Traits are partly focused on a different game, but most of them can easily be used for any game you wish. If you have questions about particular trait, feel free to ask.

Are you Okay with me taking the traits on my character sheet (Magical Knack from the advanced players guide, and Prehensile Whip from the Adventurer's Armoury)? Or would you rather I take traits from your profile?

If the traits are fine, then I think I'm ready (except, perhaps, some small additions to the background if grmnbln and Scranford want to have a bit of shared history in Shelzar).

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Nightflier: Quick question about creation, when you say Max HP and wealth for 5th level, do you mean maximum HP for 3rd level, and wealth for 5th level, or both for 5th level?

In any case, I'll need to figure out what to spend the difference between 3rd and 5th level wealth on.

Hey! My guy was going to be from Shelzar as well. Perhaps he is the representative of one of the merchant houses sent along with the hired help.

Cool! I'm gonna start my background stuff this evening so I'll post up a rough version. We could find a few places where they intersect, maybe having worked together before or something.

So that'll be three Shelzari!

I'm thinking the only non-evil god that would have Darkness as a domain would be Enkili, the Trickster. Looking into rumours of a game changing weapon would be likely.

Actually, I'd say that Enkili's daughter, Drendari, makes much more sense for the Night subdomain... and she seems more likely to be into the whole secretive investigations and all that subtle stuff that Enkili just likes to mess up for other people.

Copying across from the old discussion thread:

I'm happy with or without Gestalt, I enjoyed your Kaledun game with it, but I've got a character in mind without it (not that it would be a difficult matter to tweak him slightly.)

It'll probably be easier for Elmario to stick with his current point buy, but in case this gives him room for a positive Con modifier, here's the rolls:

Rolls:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Is it a strict rule that both traits need to be from your profile, or can I keep the two I'd originally taken?

I'm waiting for others to make it known if they are still interested. I may start recruitment thread again if I don't get enough old players.

We might want to keep this thread active while we wait; I only noticed your post because I decided to check in on a whim.

This thread has been resurrected!

Guys, I am back now. My work load is much lessened and I am once again in the position to run several games. If there are any who are still interested in playing, we can begin this game in one weeks time - that is, next Monday.

Excellent news!

I may be a little slow in posting until the end of the month, but I'm still interested.

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Bump?

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Oops, I've just noticed that I don't qualify for Improved Natural Weapon until next level. I'll switch it out either tonight or in the morning.

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Merry Christmas all!

Elmario's ready, have you settled on Hollowfaust for the start of the campaign?

That would suck. :) Can you think of another way to express his tenaciousness? Barbarian seemed such a good fit.

Not sure... maybe the diehard feat?

I think the only restriction is that you must be non-lawful to advance in barbarian not to keep its abilities, though I could be wrong.

That's the monk, unfortunately. Though Nightflier might houserule it that way.

I have a weird character combo. 1 level barbarian, 2 levels paladin. When I thought of Tomas's back story I thought the barbarian best fit his inability to back down. I looked for rules about ex-barbarians and could not find them, so I am not sure if this means there are no hindrances.

I think you keep the fast movement, but lose the ability to rage.

Male Human (Shelzari) Ranger 3

Ready.
