They've said that this launch will not change the forums. They've mentioned plans to update the forums and rest of the website as well in the future, but there's no ETA yet. From the original announcement post in April: Quote: Areas that will stay the same for now will be the forums, Organized Play reporting, the blog, and a dozen or so landing pages. That said, as a general rule (in life) it's a good idea to make backups of anything you would be devastated to lose access to. But we expect everything with pbp will be back as normal as soon as the site comes back up.
I'm interested in this game, as I enjoy the theme of ordinary people becoming heroes, and I also like core Pathfinder. I was hesitating to apply because I also applied to Plastic Dragon's game and I don't want to overcommit in case I do get into that one. But the deadline is approaching so I'll do some rolls and see how it goes! 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 3) = 16 > 13
Wow that went well! For my concept I was thinking about a human farmer, which might mean growing crops, or managing an orchard, or focusing on animals - or possibly all three, for a farm serving such a small hamlet. For the NPC class I'd guess that would be either commoner or expert. That could lead to becoming a ranger, leaning into the animal handling side, or else a strength-based fighter or maybe a rogue who's not actually a thief and would be unaffiliated with the thieves' guild.
Ok, good to hear that there's hope yet! If the original GM can come back and continue that's the ideal situation. That said, if they return and are feeling overwhelmed they should feel free to reach out too. I'd be willing to run temporarily to give them a break, or assist with bookkeeping somehow, whatever would be useful to keep the game moving. I know sometimes it's hard to pick the momentum back up after a break. Or I'll just sit back and enjoy. (Now that I've read through your whole game so far I'm invested to see what happens next!)
I've been reading through your game, and you guys do have a really good flow going! The communication has been solid too, so it is worrying that you haven't heard from the GM. Did anyone have a way to contact Delta Arena outside the forums? I might be able to pick up your game, with the caveat that I have never played or run Age of Ashes so I would need a little time to get caught up. If any other potential GMs are casually checking this thread, I'd throw out there that this does seem like a good group to play with. :)
I'll just switch to this Barathu soldier, which can free up my witchwarper for another game.
Veniir wrote: @GM: Quick question. I'm going uRogue, and the class gets free Weapon Finesse at level 1, but it's not a thing with Elephant in the Room rules. Do you have a preferred way to deal with this? I'm not the GM obviously, but I see that the class errata appendix for EitR has rules for what an Unchained Rogue does to replace the finesse training. Is that what you're asking about?
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 2) = 10 > 9
That is absolutely appalling! I can't even think of a way to make that work as a joke character, haha. 20 point buy it is. I'm thinking bard or cleric or possibly paladin. Or maybe druid. Something a bit caster-ly at any rate.
Greetings! It has been years since I did any PbP, and also years since I've played Starfinder, but with the new edition coming out I was feeling the siren call to return. I know you all just started a gameday so I don't expect any new games to be starting up soon, but it will take me some time anyway to remember how the forums work... and read the new Starfinder rules... and the SFS rules... So for now I'll just express general interest in any SFS2 scenarios whenever a chance comes up. And maybe down the road I'll be able to GM again once I remember how things work.
IgnaNacho wrote: Hello, I am told that this is the place to come and see if games are being played. I would like to get into PFS. Welcome, IgnaNacho! You can make a post in the Gameplay thread, so that Flaxseed Lodge will be added to your Campaigns page and make it easier to watch Recruitment here for people starting up new games. If this is your first time playing PFS, you should download and read the PFS Guild Guide to understand how the structure works and how to create your character. If you have any questions you can put them in the Discussion thread, or PM me if you prefer.

I have a level 5 character who could play either of those. (And has some strong ties to the Scoured Stars, so I would quite like to.)

Nice! I'm all in favor of simplifying that process.
They were talking about the Iconic Encounters that are coming out for each of the Pathfinder iconics. They've been very evocative little story snippets. See them all here. I'd love to get some for the Starfinder iconics at some point! I just got to watch the episode with Sutter too, and it was a very fun one. You should definitely have him back. It seems like he has a lot of interesting experiences to share. :)
Dralitar wrote: Looking to get into PFS PBP... have I come to the right place? Sarenrae's blessings upon you... You have indeed! Are you already familiar with PFS? Have you done PBP before? We're in the middle of our Outpost convention right now, so there aren't as many games kicking off regularly, but this thread you've found is where people come to recruit players so you can keep an eye on this space.
They do look that way in the pdf. I got my hard copy in the mail today, and the maps look fine, just like normal quality. I vaguely recall this happening before with another product: the maps in the pdf only were low res for some reason, and they were able to correct and update them in peoples’ accounts. Perhaps a post in customer service will reach the eyes that need to see it?
My personal note-taking process rejoices that the organized play will get to have a different abbreviation (PACS) from the game itself (PACG). It also never made sense to me that on the website I had to click through the Pathfinder Society and then another page to get to either the card game or the RPG, so as someone who plays both, having them further differentiated sounds good to me. I get excited about acronyms and website navigation, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I do like the potential of the ACG/PFS crossover specials that we've had, so I hope you might still consider those for the future. But a dedicated ACG special that uses card game mechanics well would also be cool, so I wouldn't mind that if it's the direction you go. Will the new scenarios be using the Crimson Throne box, or simply the new Core Set? I'm trying to decide whether to buy them both at release or start with the core set and play that for a while first. Knowing how they fit into plans for organized play would help me make that decision.
So I was on the right track with my wild vesk/kobold guessing! He's a fun character from the little we've heard. Including a different ancestry seems like a good idea from a PR standpoint: show people that you can already play with something other than the core ancestries. It's like a bonus sneak preview besides. I'd be interested to hear Jason's thoughts on it too.
I got my pdf today! I always skim through the art and the articles at the back first, and I must say I'm a fan of the "Touring the Archipelago" article. It's a fun angle for examining a location. And who wouldn't like to take a tourist jaunt to the Sun? Alien Archive creatures: Janni, medium outsider (native) CR 4 Mephit, small outsider (extraplanar, variety of grafts with different subtypes) CR 3 Suli, medium outsider (native) CR 1 + playable race Sylph, medium outsider (native) CR 2 + playable race Salamander, medium outsider (extraplanar, fire) CR 6 Thoqqua, medium outsider (earth, elemental, extraplanar, fire) CR 2
You're in luck! They did an unboxing video on Twitch, and showed off a lot of the art. The adventure material was mostly kept back, for obvious spoiler-related reasons. The video is up on YouTube now here. I'm a big fan of the reference cards myself. They did not talk about the pdf however, to my memory.
Chris Ballard wrote: Anyone care to provide the links to the subscriptions? I have yet to find the appropriate pages. From the menu at the top of the page, hover over Store and click on Subscriptions. That brings you here. You can also get to a subscription from one of the items that will be in it; for example on the Core Rulebook page there's a link after the description that says "Note: This product is part of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscription." Keep in mind that the details there are for the current subscriptions, and they haven't made final announcements yet about what (if anything) will be changing for the second edition.
My advice: if you're eager to try GMing PF1 society scenarios, just do it, and ignore the hand-wringing and cries of despair from the forums. (Okay, I exaggerate. Maybe.) Don't let it get you down, and play what you want to play. You seem like a motivated person, and if you're excited about what you want to run, you'll probably be able to get some players excited too. I just started PFS a year or two ago, so the vast majority of the scenarios I don't know anything about. That's a lot of content that I'd love to explore, and I'm sure there are others out there like me. Also yes, the pbp community will definitely have an audience for PF1 for a long time to come. You're quite welcome to join us at the Flaxseed Lodge!
I followed the instructions Sara Marie posted a little higher in this thread. From Paizo's Twitch page on a browser (not the mobile app) there's a box called Roleplay Shows. Clicking on Oblivion Oath brings up the characters' basic info.
Oooh! I can hardly wait to hear which classes you'll be playing. (And consequently which ones we'll get a sneak preview of their final forms.) My impressions from the silhouettes are as follows: Gabe: Vesk! No, that's not it... Kobold? Wait...
I'm nobody official, but it's a known issue that if you delete the first post of gameplay it hides the whole thread so nobody can post in it, and it looks like the same effect happened to you. I believe the website team has a way to fix this, but it might be faster and easier just to create a new campaign and ask your players to jump over. (P.S. You can see a whole string of other people who've had the same problem here)
I feel you. I'm glad they started giving us the age/weight/height statistics for new playable races, but I do really miss the common name recommendations that they offered for the core races. A name is a vital part of a character, and I like to tie it into the character's history, culture, and background if I can. Otherwise my names tend to start sounding all the same, or end up in a bucket of orcish/elvish/generic-fantasy-human. On the other hand, not having suggestions can also mean you're free to choose something for yourself. I gave one of my characters a Chinese-reminiscent name, and in my personal head-canon that's a common sound scheme for her people. If something does get printed on the subject in the future, I can always say that it's her family's particular tradition, if not an entire race.
FYI: Paizo had an issue with their ISP and the shipping emails might have been rejected by your email provider, or sent to a spam folder. They're correcting the issue (see details here) but in the meantime you might want to check your digital content to see if it's already there.
