"I never intend to be a paid thug. I would give up their funding before becoming that. But yes, we may want to find a barrister or lawyer to help us write this down. After all, I do not believe either of us is particularly adept in legalese." She made the comment idly, glancing down at Moonwing who seemed... interested in something. Wanted to lead her somewhere it seemed. Odd, she'd have to figure out what the point of that was. "If you don't know any, I could ask around. I've familiarized myself with a large portion of the city."

After awkwardly waiting for Karthan to take the lead, Eliana realized the man wasn't going to. Directing Moonwing to step forward, she rolled her shoulders before getting into her best speech posture. A knight clad in white mounted on a silver griffon? An image for the story books. "We are proposing a proper guard for the city. Sternmason's men and the local branch of the Order are few in numbers, mostly due to a lack of resources. With proper funding and resources, we can expand. Grow. Take the place of the church in terms of protecting the people. Make it a lot less likely for a mob to accidentally set the city alight while hunting something."

Moonwing for his part was more interested in the small cat that had appeared. His eye followed it, understanding Sinri's message. He let out a small chirping noise. The merchants wouldn't recognize it, but Eliana had been around him enough to know it as a sound of agreement. A puzzle she'd have to solve later.

I kept putting this off thinking I didn't need to say anything, but it seems like I really should chime in now...

She nodded her head at the man as her name was mentioned. Letting Karthan finish his statement, she spoke up after him. To reinforce his point. "The city has been without a proper defense for a long time. Making do with separate disparate groups won't work forever. As the angel showed, at some point threats will come that need a more unified front to face."

AC 21, T 14, FF 18 l HP 52 l F +5, +R +6, W +8 l Init +3 l Perc +12

Eliana watched the three men of wealth for a few moments, letting Karthan proceed forward to interact with them. She just followed after, letting Moonwing and herself loom in the background. She would speak when the time was right. No need to bloat the conversation with her interference. Karthan seemed very charismatic himself, so it wasn't like she was ruining their chances.

"To be fair, I've seen no evidence whatsoever of there being a summoner. Sometimes demons do just crawl up out of some hole or another. But either way, fair enough. Focus on what was originally discussed." Trying to get the demon involved when there wasn't that much information was probably a bad idea. To get more information though she'd need to actually investigate, which might take a bit. Maybe after this meeting.

As Karthan approached, Moonwing let out a cry into the sky to let her know. Looking up, she watched him approach, smirking slightly as he didn't notice her standing there. Moonwing hopped down from his perch, gliding to land beside Eliana as she nodded. "That I am... Though speaking of the vilest elements in the city, I've got a proposal for you while we walk. Related to the demon."

She motioned for Karthan to follow, even as Moonwing padded along beside her.

Waking up to a bright new day, Eliana went about her usual morning routine to get ready. Luckily while inside the building, her curse was not nearly as much of a hindrance as when she was outside. This part of the day, she... actually felt fairly normal. Like she could forget all the horrors that happened in her lifetime. At least until she glanced into a mirror and saw these foggy orbs staring back into her. Letting out a sigh, she finished preparing herself all the same.

Exiting the barracks, she brought two fingers to her lips and let out a shrill whistle. A keening cry answered it, and Moonwing glided on down to join her in the courtyard. Running a hand across the griffin's head, she smiled a bit. "You find something to eat last night my friend?" He let out a chirping noise she'd come to recognize as a 'yes'. "That's good to hear. We've got to wait for Sternmason, so do you mind keeping an eye out for him for me?"

Letting out another chirping noise, she stepped back and he spread his wings. Flapping into the air, the griffin... sat himself down onto a nearby roof to keep an eye on the road. While Eliana... just waited beside the guard for the little complex they'd called their own.

Meanwhile, Eliana's friend Misana listens to her upset rant with empathy and patience, nodding along with the highs and lows of the story. The other Cathar tries to consider carefully how to respond to Eliana. She lays a kind hand on her friend's armored shoulder. "It sounds like you tried your best to do the right thing," she says, inclining her shoulders a bit and trying to smile. Her next response is colored by the disappearance of her smile and a small sigh. "I don't think funding can protect us from mad angels, though. You need someone strong to challenge an angel. You said you fought alongside that demon, right? What if we use some of that funding to pay the demon directly, but to protect the city from evil?"

She let out a small sigh and gave Misana a grateful smile as she put her hand onto her shoulder. Listening to what she said, her eyes widened significantly as she brought up the idea of HIRING the demon. She opened her mouth to respond to that, before closing it as she really thought about it. "He was strong enough to at least stand for a time, though it seemed like he'd have died without the rest of us there... If we hired him we'd be able to observe him better. Plus it'd mean he wouldn't be collecting taxes for the merchants, making him less likely to piss off the populace... I'll have to broach the idea to Sternmason."

Standing up, she stretched a bit before giving the other woman a hug. "Thanks for the talk Misana, you always know what to say." Giving her one last smile, she went off to get ready for sleep herself. There was a lot to handle tomorrow, better be fresh-faced for it.

"Oh trust me, you don't know half of it." She plopped herself down onto a nearby chair. Pulling her helmet down, she ran her fingers through her own brown hair. "Isabela asked me to help track down a child abductor and murder in the sewers. We lost track of him, so I'm gonna have to figure that out." Letting out a grumble, she threw her hands out in a semi-dramatic gesture. "Then, an angel showed up looking for that demon the Merchant's Guild somehow bound to their service. She threatened to cut a swathe through the city to root out any 'corruption', and I cast a prayer of sight and saw the madness surrounding her. Before you know it, Isabela shows up with some other spellcaster, Sternmason shows up, and the DEMON."

Rubbing the bridge of her nose, she made a vague gesture. "Because of the immediate threat the angel posed to the city, I wound up fighting it alongside the demon. It ran off, then a mob showed up. I tried to calm them down but they refused, so... Who knows what happened with that. I came back here to think, then Sternmason showed up again with an idea. I agreed to try and convince the Merchants Guild to give us some funding so we can recruit more cathars. Split the role of protecting the city with Sternmason's mercs."

After a moment, she winced and gave Misana an apologetic look. "Sorry, I should have gotten your opinion first. We haven't spoken to the merchants yet, so I can always tell him we're backing out. He'll be showing up tomorrow morning?"

Karthan chuckles darkly looking out the window at the moon just rising over the rooftops, "no, no there is a god. And plenty of bastards mad enough to pay it homage."

He pauses for a moment to contemplate the words before getting up from the pew, very well, let's meet here so we can confer and decide on an approach before we speak with them. They may just want to make an appointment so all the relevant members are present but if we can toss the initial idea in the door perhaps they'll be more willing to honor that date than not. Getting up with a grunt from his still aching wounds Karthan begibs to make his way towards the exit.

"... I wouldn't describe that thing as a god. God's can be understood on some level." She knew exactly what he meant, and her frown deepened and her eyes closed. Really, she didn't like considering what was in the moon. Considering she was pretty sure she had some connection to the moon now...

"I'll see you in the morning Sternmason. Hopefully, this all goes well." With those words, she pushed herself upright. While he went to exit, she went to try and find Misana. She needed to be informed of this turn of events. And... she really could just use a chance to talk to a friend about everything that happened today.

Jurisdictions will likely be drawn along property lines, though with some arm twisting I'm sure we can expand it into the poorer neighborhoods. The merchants guild will be first, followed by the noble families, the ship captains, and whoever else requires security. Perhaps we can repurpose the old fort? I dont know if any of the church is left uo there but if so they might be willing to sign on just for the comfort of belonging to a cause. "The idea, ultimately, is to gain some semblance of order back in this city without the interference of mad angels, godless monsters, and bloody madmen. They'll want to know how this will be organized. Do we split everything, reorganize, cut the city into jurisdictions, agree on a common law with consistent penalties and otherwise remain separate? Do we combine our forces into a common town guard and reorganize into a single command structure? Either way I have to completely dismantle and rebuild my rank and pay lists. A lot to at least outline before drawing up any contracts and charters. What would your order even want?"

"We remain separate." She stated that much firmly. "I can't make a decision like that. I've got got to answer to Thalia, and I doubt she'd like to hear that I tied any of the people in the Order to a command structure under someone else. No offense to you, but I doubt she'd want someone in charge of a significant number of the Order without meeting them. I think splitting everything, cutting the city into jurisdictions, and agreeing on a common law would be reasonable. Honestly, if things go well, I could even see if extra recruits would be willing to head to other towns the Order's trying to protect."

It is my opinion that enough of such brave men properly equipped, trained, and supported is a match to any mage or monster. Several such men were present on that very street. What they lacked, madame, was incentive. Many of these men are without ships or work. Do you see where I'm taking this?"

"I can see the benefit of training the common folk. Instilling some discipline so we don't get angry mobs rampaging around. Last time they had the power to levy taxes the fort had just laid it's foundation. Rulw of law here is rule of the coin pouch, or the mob if a large enough pouch is unavailable."

Eliana completely ignored the first part of his comments, just continuing to stare at Karthan as he speaks. Eventually, he spoke on something actually important, the state of the city. Letting out a small sigh, she nodded her head and waved a hand at her surroundings. "The state of Havengul is the state of most of Innistrad at the moment. The Church of Avacyn was the government, and it's lost almost all of its power. Beyond Avacyn's madness and subsequent death, fighting off the madness that spread resulted in massive losses."

Looking directly back at Karthan, she pressed a hand to her chest. "I'm one of the few Gryff Knights left, in all of Innistrad. Havengul's frankly better off compared to a lot of places since the church's presence was comparatively limited and it wasn't as heavily attacked. Thraben will likely never recover from what happened. But I digress. I suppose you're interested in trying to form some kind of government for the city then?"

"Well, life is full of surprises. Especially after the madness that threatened to consume everyone. Things aren't exactly gonna be normal... ever again potentially." She reached a hand up, pulling her hood down so she could run her fingers through her hair. Why did Isabela have to go and show her true form? That was gonna make this very annoying indeed. "Not the first time I've fought alongside a vampire, or hell that specific vampire. Isabela and I fought at the Battle of Thraben. As far as we've been able to tell she's never murdered anyone innocent, and she aids the city as an investigator. Eliana had placed herself before what was once an altar to Avacyn. Her head bowed and hands clasped together in a classic prayer pose. Though she prayed to no one, she just... contemplated and thought over everything that happened. The status quo in the city had fallen apart. Was she right to not attack the demon? To not aid the mob in hunting him down? They might be dead now at his hand, and she'd have let them.

The noise of Karthan entering the chapel didn't bother her, she assumed it was a monk. His voice surprised her, and she stood. Turning to look at Karthan, her silvery-white eyes stared at him for a few moments before she nodded. "I am the leader of the local branch of the Order of Saint Traft. I suppose you're here to discuss the events that recently happened?"

At least from what I've written, Eliana is one of the two leaders of order in the city. There's also Misana Arsun, a Springsage who's in charge of the less military part of the local chapter. So... that guy's probably referring to Eliana.

Eliana just barely was able to see Oleg, and waved back before landing. Dismounting, she reached a hand up to run it through her hair. Patting Moonwing on the neck, she spoke to him quietly. "Stay close by, if an hour passes, you're free to hunt yourself some dinner. I'm not sure if we'll be needed further tonight." With that, she turned towards the chapel to enter it. After everything that happened, she needed time to think. As well as just wait to see if the city survived the night.

Currently I am waiting on Taime/Li'omrut to decide on a course of action before moving that timeline forward. If they just want to wait in the kitchen until something happens, they should go ahead and post that.

I'm also waiting on Karthan to decide on something to do before I have anything to respond to him with. He is, in effect, the most effective guard captain for the city. What does he want to do about this situation?

The local presence isn't particularly large, a total of twelve members. Besides Eliana, there's the other leader, a springsage named Misana Ardun, and then ten other priests and Cathars that mostly do basic duties. Hunts for any undead that threaten the town, offering free healing to those who need it most. Not a big presence, but better than nothing.

It's not the first demon bound to serve the benefit of humans. I doubt it will be the last. Potentially having anyone die because one of Avacyn's corrupted kin jumped on the first chance to try and murder something is pointless. If you want to hunt, hunt the man who's been kidnapping children. Or any number of threats that actually threaten the people of the town." She tried using simple logic to stop, or at least redirect the mob. Burning down the Merchant's Hall would just hurt Havengul in the long one.

When he breaks the chains that bind him in service, then the Order of Saint Traft will hunt him down. But I will say again. Return to your homes, a demon bound in servitude is not worth even a single human life." Eliana's cloudy eyes were locked onto the dockworker who addressed her, before turning her eyes to scan the crowd. Forty peasants could likely kill that demon. Each blow from him would likely kill a single one. She rather not fight that demon tonight, as annoying as he was, he was bound. He performed his task as expected and didn't stray from it as far as Eliana could tell.

It's still your turn if you'd like to roll for Moonwing.

Very good point!

I guess I forgot to narrate Karthan's hit, but yeah, Karthan/Li'omrut/Moonwing have all hit. The angel has DR, and none of you are very high damage dealers for your level, so it has been a lot of small chips.

Too bad Li'omrut gave up his FRA on the same round you went for Kill the Wounded.

Eliana can do decent damage... SHE JUST NEEDS TO HIT! Also, I should have realized that with Kill the Wounded, Moonwing would have done actual damage and had him try to kill.

I figured it easier to keep track via post than remember to go and constantly edit the profile. But then I'll forgot to actually even really properly track it via post. Gotta fix that. Moonwing's Channel Vigor ended last round, and Eliana's ends this round. Also Christ I cannot roll well at all.

The magic that aided Moonwing faded, but it would hold on just a little bit longer for Eliana. It was all she could ask for, just a few more moments to deal with the angel. On some level, she felt bad for doing this, but it was obvious they were not going to stand down willingly. They must be beaten into submission, then perhaps some change can be brought about. So even as she turned her attention to Isabela, Moonwing brought her closer so she could thrust her hammer out, taking advantage of Karthan's opening.

Power Attack 1: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 17
Damage 1: 1d12 + 8 + 6 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 6 + 2 + (2, 4) = 23
Power Attack 2: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 17
Damage 2: 1d12 + 8 + 6 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 6 + 2 + (3, 1) = 31

Moonwing pulls back as he sees he's not managing to actually hurt the angel. Eliana reared her hammer back to strike again, glancing at Isabela as she proceeded to start talking... The demon just punched her some more. Did she try to break through the madness? Should she have used her words before resorting to violence? The literal vampire was trying diplomacy, though she may just be taunting her. "Angel, I do not wish to do this! I do not wish to hurt you, but you have threatened the people of this city. My duty lies in protecting them. Please, I beg of you, go to the Flight of Herons. Go to Sigarda. Leave the city's defense to me and mine."

Eliana, I think you've missed that Taime has buffed you. Perhaps the intent of posts should not be hidden in spoilers.

I didn't miss it... I just entirely forgot it. Easy to forget things when turns happen over several days. I don't think the buff would have mattered enough to make the attacks land though.

The angel raced past her and Moonwing, her head swiveling to follow it as it went after Isabela... Was she always a vampire? When did she become a vampire? Did she have time to focus on that? No. With a short whistle, Moonwing followed after the celestial. Giving him space was the worst thing she could have done, as with enough space to charge, he did. Beak and claws flexing, Eliana's hammer following after it, the two descended like a bolt of lightning. A feather and metal covered, tooth and talon wielding bolt of lightning.

Eliana Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 13

Took the AoOs, then took the charge. I think with the fact it's flying, there's more than 10ft between me/Moonwing and the Angel. So... Yeah, boogaloo begins.

Her eyes followed the angel as it ascended, taking to the skies. She saw her attack and heard her voice. One eyebrow twitched at the declaration. This... mad, corrupted angel was going to slaughter an unknown amount to of people in her city. People she was duty bound to defend. Turning her eyes to the crowd, she saw they were preparing to flee. She also saw Isaba and the woman from earlier. And so, she spoke. "Remember the madness that consumed Avacyn and kin. How all but the Flight of Herons sought our destruction? That madness hangs about her like a cloud. This city's fate is not hers to decide." Leaning down to Moonwing, she spoke a prayer into his ear, one they both knew well. "Just flies on silver wings.

Silvery light engulfed their limbs, and both suddenly shot into the air after the angel. They spiraled about, Moonwing not able to ascend in the manner necessary for the both of them to reach her. Still when he got close enough, he lashed out with his beak, intent on trying to knock that angel from the sky.
Beak: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Cast Channel Vigor, split it 4 rounds on Eliana and 3 on Moonwing.

Everything went wrong so very quickly. The serving girl, despite coming out of the merchant's hall, was ignored. She offered the information, but because it was not a merchant, the angel's fury grew. The cloud she'd sensed lingering around her made much more sense now. With the slamming of the sword into the door, and the rushing forward of the two women, she knew that conflict was going to come about. With a sigh, she let out a quiet prayer, a glowing aura surrounding herself and Moonwing. "Let my faith guard me, for my cause is just."

If they could talk the angel down, then amazing. If not, then she would be prepared for the fight.

Casting Shield of Faith, and using Improved Spell Sharing to grant it to both me and Moonwing. So sitting pretty at 23 AC and 30 AC now.
