![]() From Archives of Nethys: Commoner While their Strength modifier is +3, their melee attack does 1d4+2 damage, instead of 1d4+3. From Core Rulebook: Melee damage roll = damage die of weapon or unarmed attack + Strength modifier + bonuses + penalties. Could someone tell me what I am getting wrong? Remember, you asked for it, so... :-P Courage Mind, a cleric of Sarenrae who has has recently formed a symbiotic bond with a strange angel-spirit (mechanically, that means he has the Spirit Rage of the Barbarian multiclass archetype). Also, he wields a morning star instead of a scimitar and his amulet of Sarenrae is decorated with a rose (he has taken the Syncretism feat and is trying to combine the faiths of Sarenrae and Milani -Redemption and Freedom- ). He also carries a shield. He wears clothes as the ones depicted in the following picture but without the hood, and the white-colored fabric is brown-colored. ![]() I am building a Summoner that I'd like to hold a Longspear, which is an exclusively 2-handed weapon. I am aware that the rules for somatic components state that: "You can use this component while holding something in your hand, but not if you are restrained or otherwise unable to gesture freely". However, I am not sure if by RAI this includes the case where the caster wields a 2-handed weapon. I am not sure if this satisfies the "gesturing freely" requirement. Any thoughts? Have any clarifications already been made by someone from the developer team? ![]()

![]() Since I am highly interested in tracking the passage of time during a campaign, I would like to ask: why would you measure the distance between two port cities based on the coastline and not on the shortest sailing distance? Also, although I know it is just an example, is there any reason behind the 45 miles of travelled distance per day? I checked and it seems that the average speed of a sail ship was 5-8 knots, which (roughly) translates to 138-221 (statute) miles per day (or 120-192 nautical miles per day). ![]()

Binge-browsing the "Ask [...] anything" threads and I stumble across two random people describing what is also my dream Adventure Path, which I hope one day to run as GM... My idea of the premise is the appearance of gigantic tsunamis that cause major catastrophes across the port cities of Avistan. If I ever make it happen, the plot will somehow shoehorn the algollthus, the cult of Dagon and the demons of the Moonscar in the story (moon... tides... somehow it will make sense, I hope). And of course the tragic story of the two deific lovers who sacrificed themselves in order for Golarion to live. At least I have the trailer ready, with Rezallian himself narrating... ![]() Hi! :-) How is it going? I can tell that there are many things on schedule. I find somewhat difficult to "grasp" the impact of the numbers and how they affect the game. I mean, I read about this spell that grants a +1 bonus or that condition which inflicts a -1 penalty... or an ability such as rage that grants a +2 attack roll bonus... and I can not "feel" the importance of those increases/decreases. And since I plan to introduce the game to other people, it worries me that they will also struggle to understand the usefulness of them, to the point that they might avoid those "+ / -" effects as "pointless" or situational. A more concrete example is Mage Armor. I am not sure how to "quantify" this and judge objectively if it is worth the spell slot for "just" a +1 bonus to AC (in the most basic form of the spell). Could you give any advice in order for me to strengthen my understanding of the mathematics behind the game and thus be able to appreciate any such effects towards the dice roll outcomes? ![]()

![]() Perhaps that would lead to emphasize too much a part of the rules that will not often come into play. In my humble (due to my severely limited experience) opinion, your GM should have just allowed you to smash the walls or find an excuse other than "you can not tear down this wall because the rules say so". As far as I can tell, the Rule of Cool takes priority over anything else. In other words, I think the "common sense" you describe (16th level characters, practically superheroes among mortals, should be able to demolish walls with ease unless, at the GM's discretion, another resolution mechanism should be applied that is narration wise much more exciting) is fairly enough for this situation, not hard to come up with and too situational for having a specific rule being tailor-made for covering it. ![]()

![]() I am trying to wrap my head around the chase rules from Game Mastering Guide and I have a hard time understanding this section: Quote: Run Away: The PCs attempt to escape. They’ll go first in initiative since they’re being pursued. It’s usually best to start them one obstacle ahead of their foes and end the chase if they reach a certain location or are three obstacles ahead of their foes at the end of a round. If I understand the rules correctly, at the beginning of the chase (let's say players are the pursued) the NPC pursuers are only one obstacle behind. During each round, players have the chance to win the required amount of Chase Points in order to advance to the next obstacle and the Chase Point Pool is reset to zero. Pursuers automatically advance during this round, so they will always be following just 1 obstacle behind (or they will catch up with the players, if the latter have failed to win the required amount of Chase Points). So under which circumstances they players can widen the distance between them and their pursuers, in order to be three obstacles ahead? ![]()

![]() I apologize for the long text but I was really interested in hearing your thoughts about the issue I describe below and I wanted to articulate it as clearly as possible, since English is not my mother tongue. It is a one-time post and by no means I intend to start a debate or anything like that. I also honestly apologize for bringing again the "problem" of the nation of Rahadoum. I use it as an example and, for my part, I won't mention it again (I swear to the Everbloom's mighty morningstar). I've been thinking for some time that the introduction of atheism in a high fantasy polytheistic setting such as Golarion is somewhat problematic, when it is portrayed as an alternative philosophy that is associated with freethinkers, skeptics and philosophers of the broader sense. And that is because it usually ends up being framed in a "science vs religion" context that, due to its importance as far as real life issues are concerned, it becomes disproportionally appealing to be enforced in a fictional world that clearly does not work like that. Kassi Aziril has been labeled as "mother of modern medicine", was protected by the atheist nation of Rahadoum when other people tried to plagiarize her work, accused Sarenrae of bloodthirstiness without any clarification that canonically speaking she was wrong and she even caused the wrath of Queen Abrigail II who tried to murder her for blasphemy, only for the Red Mantis assassins to refuse to do that (!). To my understanding, Kassi is portrayed as an Hypatia-like figure and the aforementioned events create sympathy towards her essentially "science vs religion" fight. And it wouldn't matter if it was just one character but, first, she suddenly appears to be one of the Legends and virtually unchallenged to her claims (by a character in Legends or anywhere else) and, second, she is supported by Rahadoum whose portrayal I also find to be problematic; a nation that persecutes religious minorities to the point of physical extermination is set as lawful Neutral and one of its highlight points is that its citizens, due to their atheistic philosophy, are well-educated and well-versed in rhetoric and philosophy, something that as far as I can tell every devotee of a good deity is, since good deities admit their infallibility. No good deity claims omniscience or omnipotence. It makes sense, in a high fantasy setting, for clerics of good deities to be skeptics, freethinkers and even pioneers of science and philosophy. To me it seems like introducing, for the sake of inclusiveness, skeptics who oppose magic and introduce a "rationality vs magic" debate in the world of Golarion. What worries me is that this sympathetic stance, justified in real life where "science vs religion" is a serious and understandable issue, encourages official content where the trope of mocking (fictional) gods and (fictional) priests is more common than what it would be reasonable lorewise. As in the case of the familiar of the legendary alchemist Artokus Kirran (who Kassi praises him as her teacher), which mocks the psychopomp sent by Pharasma to check on Artokus by eating her spiders (source: Legends). In pathfinder novels, I have met this trope more times, at least in my humble opinion, than it is justified in a world where good deities are clearly a force of... well, good, and the default stance of the average sentient being is to at least pay some lip service to the gods. What are your thoughts on this? Am I overthiking it? Am I terribly biased? Again, sorry for the wall of text... the concept of deities and clerics in a high fantasy setting is one of my favorites and it seems to me that they have begun to appear less important (for lack of a better word) than they deserve :-/ P.S.: I know I have mentioned this before but... no clerics in Legends? The divinely inspired people seem to have taken the backseat in Age of Lost Omens :-( (though I admit there is a Champion mentioned). Is that correct and, if yes, what about the other maps which are depicted in the adventure book? :-/ Do I have to manually erase the markers in order to show them to the players? What would be a good counter argument from a cleric of Sarenrae against this accusation? ![]()
