"You say that now," she joked. "It's the little bad habits that get the most irritating over time." But he can tell that she seems to be feeling better about it.
Raelle pops the first tray of cookies into the oven and they keep on until all of the batter is used up and the smell of burnt cookies fills the apartment.

As they put the last of the cookies onto a plate, Pyra came out of her room, still looking a little sleepy.

"Mommy!" Chara exclaimed. "We made you feel-better cookies! We all did it together! We teached Ardiente how. Are you less sad now?" she asked, worried.

Chara giggled. "You're all silly. Less talking! More cookie making!" she decreed, grabbing a scoop from Raelle and digging into the batter, then holding it up for Ignace to level off for her. She already knew better than to argue with Raelle about cookie baking directions.

Ardiente sighs dramatically "I'm so misunderstood." He says, barely containing a grin.

He stands a bit out of the way while the girls get everything set up, though he will offer to help if any of them appear to need an assist.

The girls clearly know what they're doing and the counter is covered with ingredients and tools in no time flat. Raelle gets the oven heating, while Ignace starts the instructions.

"Alright, to start we need two cups of flour," she said bossily. "Chara, show him which measuring cup to use."

Chara handed him a measuring cup and slid the flour container towards him. "Don't worry," she said cheerfully. "It's not hard. Except cracking the eggs. That's pretty hard. And if you get the ratios off, watch out. Then you have to listen to a lecture from Raelle because you messed up the recipe equation."

Ignace's tears finally stopped around the same time as Chara's story finished. Raelle sent Ignace to the bathroom to clean up and headed to the kitchen.

"Hey, you two. Sounds like you're having a good time in here. Since Mom is still sleeping, how about we make a batch of feel-better cookies? Chara, you should go and tell Ignace that's what we're doing."
As soon as Chara ran off, excited about cookies, Raelle hugged Ardiente. "Thanks for being here. I don't think I could have handled both of them by myself."

He hugs her back "You're quite welcome, though to be honest, there's few other places I would rather be than with you and your family."

He lets that sink in for a few moments, then says "So, baking cookies. I don't think I've ever taken part in such an activity."

"You've never made cookies?!" Chara demands, shocked, as she returns to the kitchen with Ignace in tow. "Well, you need to learn then."

Ardiente 'Scorch' wrote:

Ardiente smiles to Fieri as she leaves "Thank you, and yea, I'll see what I can do to help out. Good luck, I get the feeling you might need it" With that, he goes inside, and greets Rae and Chara "Hey yourself, you're looking rather well. Hi Chara, of course I'll tell you a story. In fact, why don't you join me in the kitchen while I eat"

He proceeds to tell her an epic story of brave knights, pretty princesses, scary monsters and a happy ending. He does his best to sprinkle some age appropriate, goofy humor, trying to get Chara to laugh.

He knows that he's got her attention when she starts suggesting changes to the story, making it more and more ridiculous as it goes. (In Chara's version the pirates need to be rescued from the princess and her knights with help from the scary monsters.)

"Yes, I know all of my stories are boring and you've heard them all before," Raelle said, exasperated. "Maybe if you ask him nicely, Ardiente can tell you a story. After he's had some breakfast." She smiled up at Ardiente. "Hey. There's pancakes on the counter. None of us were very hungry this morning. Please help yourself."

Chara looked up with big, tearful eyes. "And then will you tell me a story? Please?" she asked pathetically.

"It made a majorly awesome explosion, but I bet it hurt lots," she finished quickly, trying to temper her enthusiasm with sympathy.

Vis, upon seeing the still hurt Gareth, walks over near him.

"Sorry to interrupt, but... Do either of you have any issues with postive energy?"

"Only if I'm already broken. Sometimes it makes me heal wrong, and then we have to start over and do it right with fire. But I'm fine now, so it shouldn't hurt me if you're planning to do something to make Gareth feel better."

"Yeah, my bones are super fragile. And I'll take whatever help I can get," she added with a cheerful grin. "It's not easy being a breakable daredevil," she added with a mournful sigh.

Vis beams at the chance to help someone, quickly taking out a paper and pen, along with a small peice of wood, and covers the page with elaborate symbols in mere seconds, before picking up the wood, and changing into firebird form and carving similar symbols into the wood with his talons. Naturally, this is taking significantly longer.

Vis is a bright yellow firebird, as an FYI.

Chara watches, being really, really quiet. Or as close an approximation as she can manage. She might be humming a little. But that doesn't really count. It's not like it's actually loud. She was a little jealous when he changed into a bird. She'd always wanted to do that, but her bones couldn't handle the transformation.

Vis finishes carving, before turning humanoid again, and wrapping the wood in the prayer scroll, and wrapping the whole thing in a bit of cloth he tears off from his robe, before taking a string and tying the cloth off- offering the cloth amulet to chara.

"It's an omamori of my paper armor spell. Keep it on you, and it should help protect you from harm... Though, it might get you few odd looks. I hope it helps things from hurting as bad, at least."

paper armor is DR 3/-, DR 5/- agaisnt internals. It, naturally, clothes it's user in flexible prayer scrolls as armor.

"Ooh, neat! It's a dolly!" she said, examining it happily.

Just then Nurse Trurow came back. "Gareth said that he would be happy to have you two come to his room and wait with him while he finishes healing."

"I bet he's bored," Chara said solemnly, all too familiar with the pain of waiting for healing magic.

"Yes, well, let's not be so entertaining that he gets hurt again, alright?"

"Of course we won't," Chara said indignantly, before trotting off after Nurse Trurow, trusting that Vis will follow. "Hi, Gareth," she chirped once they got to his room.

To put it bluntly, Jacob looks like he's been hit in the face with a cricket bat. No bruises or anything, but that general look you get when something just completely blindsides you.

While the perky little firebird girl is rambling, Jacob occasionally attempts to interject, but her cascade of words drowns out all of the "ah-"s and "um-"s.

When her little waterfall of words is finally over, Jacob expresses his entire feelings on the matter with one word: "Um..."

Skipped cheerfully down the hall, dragging Ignace along with her. Ignace was a bundle of nerves now that she knew going to the nurses office wasn't an option.

"Stop being so silly! Big sis is teaching class today! It can't be that bad with her in charge," she said, trying to encourage Ignace.

It wasn't entirely obvious where she got the wood to build the ramp, but she must have got it from somewhere. With pillows tied all around her body, the determined freckle-faced child, wisps of red hair sticking out from underneath her helmet, stepped to the top of the ramp she'd laid over the staircase and jumped on with both roller skates.

"Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

She zoomed down the stairs and along the hallway past the cafeteria before crash landing against the doors to the big kid school with a sickening crunch.

"Totally worth it," she groaned before being whisked away to the infirmary.

"She's still being a sleepyhead. She just woke up. She prolly won't come out of her room for a while yet. But you can come and eat with us anyways," she said stepping out of the way so he can come inside the apartment.

He finds a whole cupboard full of mats and blankets. Most of the children seem willing to lay down and rest, but Dara and Chara are both not willing to. Dara it seems is unable to relax and Chara is worried about trying to sleep on the floor. So instead the two are sitting at a table and coloring.

Sun gets the ones that are tired off to sleep. then goes to sit with Chara and Dara.

can I color too?

"Of course," Chara said with a bright smile, handing him a piece of paper. "We put the crayons in the center of the table so it's easy to share."

"Thank you, but i don't eat normal food, usually."

settro walks in the room, and looks over the kids.
"Sorry if i worried any of you."
he speaks as he takes a peice of cake.
"My shackles prevent me from being teleported."
he holds his hand above the cake for a moment, and burns it with a ray of fire.
"Here, chara."

"Thanks, Mr. Settro," she said happily with a big grin as she took the burnt cake and ate it eagerly. "Mmmm. Burnt frosting is the best!" she said with her mouth full.

Dara looked around and nodded, coming out from where he'd been hiding behind the others.

Midori smiled and nodded, happy that her friends were doing better now. She graciously accepts a 'fizzy drink' from Carl, and takes a sip...

Only politeness prevented her from immediately spitting it out. It was /far/ too sweet. "Thank you, Carl-san, for the drink." she says sweetly, taking small, polite sips.

"The cake looks good," Chara said, practically drooling. "Do you think it would make me very sick if I just had a little piece of unburnt cake? I know I can't have fizzy drink. It smells water-based and I'd be throwing up all night if I drank it, but maybe the cake?"

"Where are we? Where is Sun and Mr.Settro?"

Sara seems slightly more afraid than she was in the dark, not knowing what was going on.

"I...I'm not sure. But wherever it is, there appears to be cake...." Chara looked around curiously at these new surroundings.

upon hearing the announcement Sun starts to try and escort Chara and Dara back to Chara's home

you should be safe there

"No, it's too far. We should go to he sewing room. It's closer and Sara and Midori are there," Chara piped up. "And there's lots of places to hide."

Chara shrugs. "I was so little when I got sick, I don't remember what it was like to not be breakable."

"And I'd rather be happy instead of miserable."

"Hai." Midori nods, finishing up the last of the measurements. "Alright, Cha-tan, you can go play with Dara-san and Sun-san now. Of course you're welcome to stay here as well."

We'll just say that Sun was waiting to see if Chara would come too. Fair?

"Okay, see you later," Chara said cheerfully running off after the others. Sitting still was simply not in her nature and she'd rather risk getting hurt than miss out on fun.

"You're very strong Cha-tan." Midori says, going about her measurements delicately, knowing that Chara was delicate. "You don't even cry when you get hurt badly. That's a kind of strength."

A little more quietly now, as the conversation was getting a bit more private. Midori sounds completely sincere when saying this: "Besides Cha-tan, you... you don't seem to get sad about your lot in life - you're so very hopeful and energetic despite everything. That's the best kind of strength. The kind of strength that can help other people see the good in themselves too."

Chara shrugs. "I was so little when I got sick, I don't remember what it was like to not be breakable."

Midori looks a little saddened by that, but she nods. "Hai, Lang-kun told us all about it. I wish I could have been there... but I don't think I would've helped at all. I would've just gotten in the way." A little despondent about that, but she's focused on her work. "I... need to be stronger Cha-tan. Everyone else is so far ahead of me. I need to work harder."

"I don't think working hard is bad, but you're pretty way far ahead of me...well, everybody is. Don't feel bad just cause somebody else is stronger than you. They're them and you're you...at least that's what my mama says."

"I wish I was stronger too," she added.

"Hai, sewing can be fun too! Cariban-san is really good at it, that's why we can do this without Ignace-chan's help. Don't tell her please Cha-tan. It should be a surprise!" Midori says excitedly as she helps Chara to pull out the bolt of fabric she had chosen. She can't quite repress a smile that comes with the overly-cute choice of pattern that Chara had made. "This will suit you nicely I think Cha-tan."

Midori begins to lay out the fabric as the other two are finishing up Sara's yukata. "Okay Cha-tan, stand on here please so I can take your measurements." she says, picking up the measuring tape.

Chara stood obediently like she was used to this, which she probably was.

"I'm not sure why, but Mama says that Ignace is not to be disturbed today. I guess things didn't go so great on her trip," Chara said while Midori measured her.

"Ooh, pretty....are we gonna make one for me too? Can mine be yellow? Like sunflowers?"

"I've never felt excited about my ability before Chara-chan! I was always so scared I would lose control but I think if Dara-san and I practice together we won't have much to worry about!" Midori says happily as she goes to retrieve her shuriken from the wall where Dara has implanted them.

"Hai! Let's look for some patterns in here, and we need to take some measurements so we know we're making the right size!"

"That's even better. It helps you and Dara," Chara said enthusiastically.

"Wow, Sara is really into this sewing thing, huh? She concentrates on it almost as much as Ignace."

Chara looked through the patterns until she found one that had white ducks on a bright yellow background. "This one! I like this one best."
