Calvin laughs madly as Grumble's blow lands on the guard. He focus his attention on the guard Ferrin is facing. "That armor does you no good. No good at all."

I'm fine with it, but I think you forgot to roll the guard's will save to resist the first Evil Eye.

"You're both going to get crushed and die!" Calvin cackles gleefully - and safely behind Grumblejack - at the two guards. "But first, you're going to get skewered by our ex-paladinian comrade!" he says at the guard (AC, -15), projecting the image of him getting pierced by a sword, over and over again.

Move: Cackle to keep up fortune on Grumble.
Action: Evil Eye (DC16 Will Save): -2 to AC

"Yes...yes...where we are. Good. But where is Tobias? Is there anywhere where it looks like they might keep their animals or insects?" Calvin asks anxiously. He looks at Arash and nods after the Tiefling speaks. "Agreed. Perhaps we can sneak up on them unaware like? What if we went through this door...here?" He points at the door leading out of room 11.

"You think there's anything worth the taking in those rooms?" Calvin asks. "Anything that might help us on our journey? In particular, I should like to find Tobias - assuming the 'noble' bastards didn't squash him."

Calvin is swallowed by the large man, which causes him to stop laughing. He pushes against Grumblejack, but is unable to free himself until the half-ogre allows it. He looks up at him, his face angry for only a moment before breaking into a wide smile. "Aha! You owe me your life. Yes, we will be friends. I am Calvin. The Surgeon. But you can just call me Calvin. Or master. Your choice."

Calvin will help gather up anything that needs to be carried, but takes only a leather club for himself.

"Well then, shall we be off?"

Calvin continues laughing madly to keep up the spirits of the archer. "Keep shooting your needles, demon," he says. "You'll hit one soon enough, I'd wager. Maybe aim for the fluffy one. It looks like it'd make a good pin cushion."

I can "Fortune" someone else - but each person can only benefit once per today. Your character could see that my influence on Arash is benefiting him, so if you'd like Calvin to shoot you a boon, let me know.

Unfortunately, I've got no way to do that. I used my heal hex on him earlier when he fell. Once I get a spell component pouch (which it appears our dear bard has recently acquired), I can cast a good ol' CLW.

Calvin sees Arash let loose with an arrow and is impressed by the demon-man's skill. He projects images to Arash of arrows flying from a bow, hitting their mark and splitting open the skulls his foes.

Fortune Hex on Arash. Reroll any ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, taking the better result. Lasts one round (until I start laughing madly).

Calvin, almost as if waking from a dream, shakes his head. "What...where...Tobias?!"

He sees the ogre lying on the ground and the guard's lifeless body next to him. He chuckles as he steps over to Grumblejack's body. He places his hand on his shoulder and says, "You should be more careful. Your insides don't work as well on the outside of you."

He closes his eyes and projects the happiest images he can think of - light, flowers and small rabbits getting their head's crushed under the ogre's feet - into Grumblejack's consciousness. These images serve no real purpose, but help make the healing process a little more pleasant, Calvin thought.

I haven't really decided. I wanted something quirky, like an octopus, but I'm not really sure how well that work. A scorpion might be just what the doctor (or surgeon, I suppose) ordered, though.

Oooo...I like the Researcher and Torturer concept. I think some combination thereof seems appropriate. Thank you.

It should be noted that Calvin is completely and undeniably insane. I will do my best to play it appropriately and as unobnixously as possible, but please let me know if I ever go too far or get too annoying.

I haven't been around the boards in a bit - have things changed much in the last six months?

Calvin laughs madly at the chaos ensuing around him. He stares at the worg under his hex and projects visions of the creature's intestines being ripped out of its stomach by Simon, wrapped around its neck and used to spin it around in a circle over Simon's head.

Cackle to maintain Misfortune Hex and casting (DC17) Evil Eye Hex (-2 to AC) on same Worg.

Tobias maintains his total defensive posture at Calvin's feet.

"If you're going to strike it, make sure you kill it - otherwise just let it sleep for a bit," Calvin says, indicating the slumbering worg.

Seeing that another Worg has replaced the previous one, Calvin turns his gaze to that one, projects images of tripping and failure to the worg and moves away from the beast.

Misfortune Hex - DC17 on worg. Move away from the beast, closer to the middle of camp.

Tobias, glad to be free of the worg's grasp, rises and moves to Calvin's side squawking loudly. It cowers behind him, attempting to make himself as small as possible.

Total defense again.

Hey! Tobias is a rare breed, known as (Raphus cucullatus) or more commonly a Dodo. A dodo's meat is not as moist or tasty as a turkey, though it is serviceable when time gets tough.

Calvin cackles madly as his friend is tossed into the air. "Oho, Tobias! That worg will regret eating you, won't he! Too gamey." He turns his attention to the worg attacking Tobias and suggests that the beast fall asleep.

Cackle to maintain Misfortune on original target. Slumber hex on Worg - DC17 will save. Failure = falling asleep for 5 rounds.

Tobias, fearing for his life, adopts a completely defensive posture. Total defense for +4 AC

Calvin, now wide awake, moves within 30' of Red and her foe and gazes at the enemy. He projects images of the enemy tripping up and failing to hit its foes.

"Tobias thinks the women, perhaps, flew away," Calvin says, staring intently at the piece of paper. Tobias squawks angrily. "Oh. My apologies. He was merely trying to make a joke. But to be clear, we don't think we're dealing with women who've flown away, correct?"

As they finish their meal, Calvin stands and collects his items. He asks Jeremiah, "Do you not intend to travel with us? Though Tobias and I've not been in Ustalav long, we've learned already the danger of traveling unaccompanied."

"Tobias and I are acquainted with a number of people who could fit such a description as that," Calvin says casually. He sops the bottom of his soup bowl with a bit of crust before continuing. "Tobias bit a guy once. Never again. Didn't care for the taste of human flesh, much, did-ja boy? Yeah. Me neither."

A squat bird with a long neck, black pointed beak and a large head waddles through the door. It shakes the condensation from its feathers and squawks loudly. A skinny figure follows not long after, his face obscured by a mask with a long pointed nose and a wide-brimmed hat. "Yes, Tobias, I know this is the place. Thank you." Seeing the serving maid, he pulls her aside and asks for a "small-to-large-sized plate of a root-based plant and a warm bowl of soup."

He then looks over the room and spots Simon - the only person he recognizes. Lifting his mask, he makes his way over, the dodo following a few steps behind. He stands, awkwardly waiting for Simon to look up from his notes. Finally, Tobias squawks loudly.

As for hailing from Absalom, that's not important. I'll say that I was born and raised in Ustalav, but spent most of my life aboard a merchant (or unsavory) vessel. I'm fine with being a newcomer to the group - it actually makes sense with his backstory and his quirks will be more surprising to the group if he hasn't been around for a while.

Any suggestions for further gear I should acuire? I've got about 2400 gold burning a whole in my Handy Haversack!

If there aren't pirates, he could have simply been the son of a merchant seaman - the piratey stuff was just for a Skulls & Shackles AP. I know nothing about Ravenloft, so I leave this up to my fellow squaddies for guidance.

In combat Calvin's role is a serious debuffer - through a combination of Evil Eye, Misfortune and Cackle, he will focus his attention on one (for now) enemy and lock him or her down, making them completely ineffective in combat. Additionally, he can provide some very minor healing support through his current spell selection.

Out of combat, he is a quirky, off-putting doctor of sorts. He has a strong heal and carpentry skill, so if anybody needs a limb lopped off, he's here to help. Additionally, he'll be focusing on getting the Knowledge:Arcana and :Nature skills maxed out.

I went ahead and updated Calvin's character sheet. The spells are mostly placeholder and I have some more gear to acquire. I think Calvin is fun, and the scarred witch doctor, while flavorful and awesome, may not lend itself well to the streets of Absalom. You can see his...well...quirky... behavior on display in his posts.

Hey everyone. I am so sorry. Work and a crashed hard drive (in a MAC!) have conspired against my PbP'ing. The hard drive will be repaired soon, but my time may or may not be. I believe that I need to step away from the boards for a bit longer.

This pains me, as I have loved this game and you the players. I'll try to come back to the boards once the load lightens, but I completely understand that you can't wait around for Calvin that long.

Calvin takes a moment to examine his surroundings and see if he recognizes anything that will help him identify where they are.

Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Unfortunately, he is immediately distracted by a school of small, silvery fish swimming away from him and forgets what Tully asked.

Calvin leaps into the water, saying a brief goodbye to Tobias before doing so. He grabs his spear, but decides to leave his crossbow and bolts, as well as his scrolls, behind.

The water is cool and refreshing and Calvin simply floats for a few moments. He had spent hours on the ocean - mostly because he was tossed overboard so regularly as a joke - but he had become quite accustomed to swimming and floating.

Seeing that his peers were moving on ahead of him, he began to swim to catch up. He kept his eyes peeled, eager to avoid running into a carnivorous sea creature or painful jellyfish.

Swim Check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Perception Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
