Cairenn looks briefly shocked that he hit with the spear, but shakes it off in the interests of looking like he knows what he's doing. Like a cat, he meant to do that.
After translating the skeleton's speech, Cairenn hurries to Ronen's side. "We must get him out of this mess first. Water might wash away the mud, or we can probably chisel it off.... hang on, Ronen..."
Cairenn draws one of the bottles he keeps at his belt, angling his body so that the skeleton cannot see what he does. He puts the flask to Ronen's lips, assuming he can get a clear path with all the mud.

If he's at 0 HP, he's not unconscious, but he is disabled, and runs the risk of passing out if he does something strenuous.
SRD wrote: A character with 0 hit points, or one who has negative hit points but has become stable and conscious, is disabled. A disabled character may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can he take full-round actions, but he can still take swift, immediate, and free actions). He moves at half speed. Taking move actions doesn't risk further injury, but performing any standard action (or any other action the GM deems strenuous, including some free actions such as casting a Quicken Spell spell) deals 1 point of damage after the completion of the act. Unless the action increased the disabled character's hit points, he is now in negative hit points and dying. *goes to post in game*

Round9
Cairenn drops his all-but-useless bow, again, and draws the silvered spear as he dashes forward...
Spear attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 1 = 20 I seem to recall the spear was magical. Ignore the +1 if not.

Round 8
"Well done," Cairenn calls out in relief at Lilia's trick, relaxing fractionally.
From the map it doesn't look like there's room for me to get into melee with the blue mudman while also leaving room for Urrnir. So, instead:
Cairen backs a few feet back to where he'd dropped his bow, snatching it up while dropping his morningstar. He attempts another arrow at the nearest mudman.
Bow shot vs blue: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (20) - 4 = 16
Confirm?: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (14) - 4 = 10
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
The shot hits by pure luck, but doesn't do much damage.

Round 7
Cairenn throws down his bow in disgust, running forward as he draws his morningstar. "Urrnir! I'll distract it, you hit it!"
He's going to ready an action once Urrnir is back in melee: to aid another's attack. He makes a roll vs DC 10; if he succeeds, Urrnir gets a +2 on an attack vs the mudman.
vs DC 10: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Success. Have a +2 to hit the green mudman, Urrnir

Well, with a fabulous sense of timing, I broke my laptop, and it'd be a minimum of $200 to get it repaired. Having dumped Wis, I'm going to attempt a fan replacement myself, but this is likely to take me several days while I get the new fan and fumble my way through disassembling a laptop using nothing but the user manual and my own pig-headedness. I can still check the boards via my phone, but writing actual posts on my phone is about as enjoyable as nailing my toes to plywood, so..... this is essentially a TL;DR post to say "I probably won't post much the next few days, please GMPC as needed."
And wish me luck. :-\

Round 6
Grimly, Cairenn fires again, having no spells left.
Bow vs green mudman: 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 4 - 4 = -2
Somehow he manages to not shoot himself in the foot. Barely.

Shortbow vs Green mundman, cover penalty, firing into combat: 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 - 4 = 6
The arrow comes nowhere close.

Cairenn chants quick words in Necril, and points at furthest behemoth of mud. "Flee, you base creature of mud!"
Casting Cause Fear on the red mudman, Will save DC 15.
"Lueck! I'll try and make one of the ones near you run! Draw back here with us if you can!"
Last round of bardic performance. +1/+1 hit and damage
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
The penalty would still apply for Lilia.
SRD wrote: Benefit (of Precise Shot): You can shoot or throw ranged weapons at an opponent engaged in melee without taking the standard –4 penalty on your attack roll.
Note: Two characters are engaged in melee if they are enemies of each other and either threatens the other.
Ergo, the 'threatens' part of the equation is the important part, not whether or not either of them has actually attacked the other yet.
"Lueck!" Cairenn shouts in genuine worry as he hears his friend yell in pain. "Hang on!"
Standard to start bardic performance, +1/+1 to everyone for to-hit and damage.
Cairenn angles, trying to see the mudman attacking Lueck, biting his lip in concern for someone else, for once.

Round 1?
"I didn't say he'd help us-- I said he'd defend his tomb," Cairenn says drily. "Slight difference."
He takes the spear from Lueck with a frown for the other half-elf's words. "Be careful!" he shouts, when he sees what Lueck is getting ready to attempt.
Not really moving anywhere or tacking actions, since I moved to the place I meant to, already.

"If you've acid spells, don't bother with them," Cairenn yells. "--and watch your footing, they can try and entrap you with mud, dragging you down and keeping you from moving! We might be able to lure them into the tomb areas of the skeletons-- I believe the skeletons will act to defend their tombs from the guardians."
Cairenn darts to the head of the group, trying to put distance between himself and the mud creatures, his bow drawn and an arrow nocked.
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Can Cairenn make a KN check on the mud-men, or was Lueck the only one to actually see them?
"They're moving slowly-- we might able to outrun them, but who knows what we'd run into?" Cairenn says in frustration.
In Necril, he shouts to the skeletal mage: "Are you prevented from attacking the guardians? For the mission of our Dark Prince is in jeopardy, if they destroy us..."
Bluff check if needed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
For my actual action, probably moving down the corridor with the group, buuuut gonna see if Cairenn knows anything about mudmen first.

Cairenn frowns after the explanation, peering down the flagstoned road.
"...I have a spell that might cause our bodies to temporarily mimic the dead, but I would be most loath to use it. In the first place, casting it enough times to let us all pass would completely drain me of any useful spells for the rest of the day. In the second place, it will both cause pain to the recipient, and can even weaken your muscles-- which seems ill-advised, in a place where we may meet so many foes."
He squints at the path, and then at the walls of the corridor in question.
GM: from the map, the walls of the flagstoned corridor look rough and irregular. Is this in fact the case-- natural stone/cavern wall? Also, how wide is the corridor? It looks like it varies by width here and there, but is it roughly 5 feet wide in most places, or wider?
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Caireen squints at the section of the wall indicated as where Something burst out. How big is the hole where it erupted from? Are there any signs of hair or scales or slime or anything....?

My (further) apologies. My concentration this week has just been shot and it's been hard to focus on tags, but I know it's frustrating when Cairenn is the guy who has a lot of IC knowledge about the area. Please consider that he will certainly share information if you need your character to know the information and I haven't actually posted sharing it.
Cairenn Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Lucky us!
Cairenn nods, then offers a bow to the warrior, before turning to whisper to the others. "Priscilla's idea earned us valuable information," he admits.
"Ahead there is a sunken altar-- and beyond that, fires and 'the max of Maughuxin,' one of the demons three of this place. The warrior says that we must follow the paved passage, for the others are false. The crystals themselves lie mostly in the burial chambers-- save for some of the strongest souls, which are beneath the altar spoken of. Demonspawn will guard them, though."
In a whisper, he says, "We can try to strike now... but I fear its fellows will rush swiftly to aid it."

Sorry for the lack of posts. I'm still semi-busy but also keep just falling asleep during the times I mean to catch up on the boards.
Cairenn shrugs at the debating of which tunnel to begin with, since the tunnels do not correspond to specific demons and they have no clue of what threats await beyond the glimpse of which skeleton had retreated down which tunnel. When right is agreed upon, he proceeds along, putting his bow away and trading it out for his morningstar. Arrows are not the best things with which to face the dead.
His pale brows arch, first at Lilia's words, then at Priscilla's. "I suppose we can ask further questions," he admits. "What should we ask, you suppose? A query as to the layout of the chambers beyond? Where the crystals are? What other guardians await?"
After waiting to see if anyone has further questions, Cairenn turns to the skeleton champion and launches into more of the odd, hissing tongue of the dead.
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Welp.

"Go safely," Cairenn tells T'Salix. Whatever unsavory racism the half-orc displays, Cairenn does not privately think it has merited the treatment he's received so far.
The half-elf inspects the carvings with his expression somewhere between queasy and fascinated. Even knowing it was all meant to be metaphorical, and not a glorification of these demons, the carvings are still rather... evocative.
"Those were skeletal champions," he says to the others as he squints down the halls. "Not, perhaps, insurmountable foes... but I would pick our battles, as none of us are as fresh as we were earlier today. Fighting them singly rather than together is perhaps possible. They also said that more guardians might come-- I think they meant, in the vein of the elementals. So let us be on guard for that as well. As to which passage..."
He gazes at the three mouths, wondering if it matters; then shrugs to himself. Fortune favors the bold. "Abraxes!"
The flickering manshape appears again, and Cairenn directs it to the mouth of each tunnel, peering down as far as the light lets him see before frowning. To Priscilla, he says, "I'm sure you're as light of foot as a butterfly, but those tunnels are pitch black. If you take a light source, it matters not how quietly you move: a child could see you. If you do not take a light source, then you're blind, and not much good as a scout, hm? I think instead we'll all need to stick together. As for which tunnel..."
Are the carvings keyed to specific tunnels? Three demons, three carvings, three tunnels? If not, then Cairenn is fine with just starting at the left, since to him it seems no difference which they go down.

Sorry for the long absence, guys. 'Sick in the family' became, inevitably, 'sick for me'. Last few days have been very little sleep, lots of pukin', and still the work deadline. But I feel better right now and have knocked down at least one work deadline, so I'll try and get back on the horse. Thanks for the GMPC, Grimmy.
Cairenn draws himself up to his full height and looks quite haughty at Lilia and Ronen's words. "I drank a small mouthful, not gallons, and as I told you: this contains visions. Visions that may be extraordinarily useful to us, as we have suddenly entered a world of dire threats and grand players. I will not disdain any insight... let alone for so small a risk."
The bard is excited despite himself. The grand adventure he has always dreamt of is upon him! ...alright, he might perhaps wish for something a little more... genteel, to lead up with, than servants of Orcus himself, but... well, beggars can't be choosers.
"I lied to the guardians," he informs the others, "and let them think we too serve the dread Prince. It is a stroke of luck that they were expecting other servitors: now, we must use that luck for all we can. If the amber crystals that the dead speak of are shattered, then their souls will be freed to reinhabit their bodies, swelling the ranks of Orcus's foul followers. We cannot let this happen. The safest path I can think of is to seize the crystals ourselves, and take them somewhere safe-- perhaps a temple of the light, where the clergy may know powerful spells of protection. Now, we must make haste: there may be more guardians like the water elementals."
He turns to the grave-keeper. "T'salix," he says, voice firm and earnest. "There are events happening here beyond your comprehension. Yet fate has seen fit to place you among us, for the hour, and I believe nothing happens for no reason. The path ahead is a treacherous and dangerous one, I will not lie to you. But I would rather you walked with us of your own volition, displaying the courage your people are known for, and left petty grievances behind, because the foe we face now cares nothing for the battle lines between dwarf and half-orc. We shall all need to trust each other, to go forward. What say you?"
Cairenn wants to try diplomacy with T'salix to make him a bit more understanding of the stakes and get him more on their side, rather than being along under duress, as it were. If permitted:

Cairenn pales further as he comprehends they are talking about THAT Prince of Death. Oh yes. Right.
He clears his throat and says very softly, "Quietly, if you please, Lilia... these guardians serve him, and that they speak in the tongue of the dead doesn't mean they may not understand our own... I understand your sentiments, but if we refuse, we shall be in a fight... with servants of Orcus himself. It might be wise to pretend to agree, to pass by them..."

Well, per his roll, Cairenn wants to see if he knows anything of the Prince of Death, i.e. whether that's an evil entity, or what not. Death-obsession aside, Cairenn won't willingly follow the orders of any sort of demon lord or the like. (Though he might bluff that he was.)

Cairenn tenses at seeing the skeletons appear, his fingers all-but-trembling on the string of the bow with the desire to fire. But then... speech! He stares, and lowers his bow reflexively before he's really thought it through.
He hesitates, then responds to the skeletons in the same sibilant whispering.
Quickly, Cairenn says to the others: "They seem to have a task for us--" and he repeats, word for word, the statement of the robed skeleton.
"But what of this 'prince of death'," he mutters, rubbing at his jaw. "Is that an entity whose whims we ought to blindly follow?"

Frowning, Cairenn ponders to himself whether it is worth it to expend one of his two precious remaining spell slots in order to gain understanding of the inscription. As he debates this to himself, he hears T'Salix's grumpy words-- and the sound of heavy feet. The half-elf's head turns in the direction of the noises, his gaze sharpening.

Cairenn shudders at the sight of the red mist, misliking it. "Abraxes!"
He calls up the glowing outline of a man again, and sends it walking forward, through the red mist, willing it to go until it hits a solid object. He hopes that the mist cannot be so opaque as to block the glow of the 'ghost'-- he wants to get a least a notion of if there's a wall ahead, or the like.

Cairenn looks thoughtful a moment, then digs his blanket out of his pack and dips it into the red water, until it's nice and soaked. Then, he takes off his jewelry and divests himself of his metal weaponry-- all of his metal objects go into the wet blanket, which he rolls up to carry across. The soaked condition of the blanket should, he hopes, prevent some heat issues.
Cairenn's armor is leather, so he's leaving it on. If he's still going to take damage carrying metal objects in a soaked blanket, so be it. Not sure if I should make a save or not, but if so:
Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Regarding the string, he smiles slightly, as that was his intention from the start, to rig something with string. As far as disguising the string goes... well, he can color it red and let it droop in the water, but it seems more work than it might be worth.
Given Prestidigitation's hard limit of an hour, as well as its other limits, I doubt it'll be worth it to try and do any magical disguise of the string. That said:
Looking thoughtful, Cairenn attempts to use mage hand on the levers, to see if that amount of force will be sufficient to operate them. Of course, if he's on the far side of the portcullis, he won't have the range to reach, but...
"Can we not wedge that portcullis open somehow?" he asks the others. "A spike or a piton, driven into the rock right below it when it is raised, seems like it would do the trick."
Cairenn has no such spike or piton, but if anyone has a climbing kit, they should. He will lend his 50' of string to tying off to the lever, etc, and take 10 to cross over with the others, and look at the turbulent water.
Kn Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
"Hmmm... I think it's possible there's an underwater passage beneath this road, look how the current moves," Cairenn indicates, off-handedly.

The arrow skitters harmlessly over the water, nowhere close to the elemental, before sinking beneath the water.
"Well, now, you alright?" the half-elf asks T'Salix. It's true that the half-orc has... distasteful views, and Cairenn's not at all charmed by the idea of robbing from the dead T'Salix is supposed to be burying, but he doesn't consider it a killing offense, either, and so far the man's come awfully close to dying as a result of their forcing him to come along.

Free; maintain bardic performance (rd 8/11 for the day)
Move: draw bow
Standard: attack
Vs Elemental, penalty for firing into combat, bard song: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 4 + 1 = 13
Damage, though I doubt that hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Round 4
Seeing that the elementals have withdrawn for now, Cairenn hesitantly stops singing. He draws out string from his pack, and makes ready to tie one end around the lever that supposedly controls the gate.
"Ares!" he calls across. "If the gate is raised from our end, have you anything you could use to force it to stay wedged open?"
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Round 3
"Oh damn it," Cairenn mutters, as he sees the elementals go for the half-orc. T'salix has some unsavory views but he doesn't think the fellow deserves to be pummeled to death when they did force him to come along, so...
His first shot goes awry. Cairenn does not waste another arrow after it, but instead begins to shout encouragement.
"Loose shaft! Strike deep!
"Sunder living waves!
"For there's further fate awaiting
"Then an end in wat'ry graves!"
Start performance, +1 to hit/+1 to damage.
For Cairenn, at least, the levers are going to have to wait.
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
It would trigger mine, though I'm sure my arrow misses.
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Can't move Cairenn, but he would move to be one square north of Ronen.
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Round 2
Relieved that Lueck is on solid ground again, Cairenn makes a face at Ronen's question. "I cannot say! They would no doubt prefer to fight in water than on land, but if they are angry enough or charged to attack any who come near, surely they will pursue."
Stop bardic performance
Cairenn moves a few feet to be on the far side of the little islet, bow clutched at the ready if either elemental comes to land or attacks.
"Can we draw the little raft safely up onto the ground? Priscilla, how much effort is required to pull those levers? I have 50' of string-- we might run across the little bridge to land, and tug the other lever by string, if it will hold..."
Readied action to shoot at either elemental if they attack
Readied Bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Guessing that would miss regardless of anything
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Cairenn begins to sing!
"Water flows and water goes
"But where it goes nobody knows
"But if you'd get to where you'd go
"You must learn to ride the flow!"
Inspire Competence: Swim. Granting Lueck a +2 to his swim check.
He draws his bow as well.
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
De planes, boss, de planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Cairenn squints towards the disturbance in the red water, then his already pale complexion pales further.
"Lueck! Get out of there! It's water elementals! They can suck you down in a vortex in the water, and you'll be no match for them while in it!"
He makes a mental note to buy a rope, as he cannot fling one out to Lueck now. Though it's not that far out to him...
Are we in initiative/combat rounds?
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Assuming that they do:
Cairenn brushes off his hands when he reaches the island, feeling semi-satisfied with himself-- until he hears the splash. Wheeling around, Cairenn cries out, "Lueck!"
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
I'll see what happens when the raft touches the water, first. ;) Though honestly I'll probably try the zipline with acrobatics, because.... it looks cool, and Cairenn can't pass that up! (Though if he flubs his roll it will look very uncool.)
Acrobardics!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Cairenn is... possibly competent?
Did Cairenn retrieve the shiny mentioned here?

Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Oh, okay, don't know where I got the idea that our ropes didn't go all the way down to the water. Is this an accurate representation of the rope situation? (Pardon my badass artwork)
If so, then I imagine Priscilla could climb down to where the other rope branches off, then climb that one to Ronen, without needing it secured to a lever-- as a halfling, she probably weighs no more than fifty pounds max, and Ronen's own physical strength and weight could probably serve as a counterweight against that much tug, no? Please point out if there's something wrong with that that I'm not seeing.
(Not trying to tell you what to do, Priscilla, but you're definitely the best person at trying to figure out what weird levers do)
Cairenn brightens at seeing something gleaming in the bottom of the mouth. "Ooh," he says, Abraxes hovering in the air next to him to show him what the shinies. He reaches inside to try and fish one out, calling up as he does so, "Priscilla, Ronen should be able to hold your weight, I'd think-- you might go down the ropes and make it to the island to help him figure out those levers..."
Appraise: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Well, it's a shiny gemstone anyway!
Half-elf Bard 3 | HP 21/25 | AC 16/12/14 CMD14 | Per +7, Init +2 | F+2 R+5 W+4 (modifiers apply)
Ah, okay. Of course, you're over there, and we're over here. :P If we do have another length with our 'side' we might want to knot that rope so the DC is only 5 to climb it, because that will be the rope that leads directly out of the water-- and if we need to climb it in a hurry a DC 5 is better than a DC 10. Eh, anyway, I'll see what Grimmy says to the stuff I posted before actual actions.
