The main issue is that Slumber is basically a save or die that has "unlimited" uses; it can be used on each new enemy. While the sleep spell is limited by both hit dice and number of times it can be cast, Slumber has that restriction removed. It's more powerful at lower levels, when enemies don't have as many immunities, and save or die spells don't really come online for most classes until later in the game. The other complaint I've heard about the Witch is the infini-Fortune-Hex. Basically the Witch hits someone with Fortune, and then spends the rest of the day following them around using Cackle to extend the duration. There are simple GM fixes for both issues, but by RAW (and at PFS tables), it can be a bit cheesy. ![]()

![]() Submitting (Doctor) Cain d'Mondego, follower of Zon-Kuthon, taster of pain, and all-around nice guy. He firmly believes that life is a long thread of suffering and misery, and so will do everything in his power to help others live in this glorious state for as long as possible. LE Tiefling (Kyton-Spawn) Oracle (Divine Herbalist) with the Life Mystery and Forsaken Curse. Crunch:
Background:
Cain was born into a minor noble house in Nidal, where his birth was celebrated among those who followed the Prince of Pain. The boy's very existence looked like an ode to sorrow: spikes of bone and what appeared to be metal protruded from his body at odd, painful angles across his head, shoulders, and arms. His mother's survival of the birthing process was largely due to the aid of a cleric of Zon-Kuthon. Cain's studies as a child included a significant smattering of herbalism and healing, so as to allow him to keep alive those who were suffering the most, as the cleric had done to his mother. When he came of age, Cain was to venture out to see Egorian, capital of Cheliax. His ship, however, was waylaid by pirates, and he and his crew were press-ganged into service. His knowledge of basic anatomy coupled with his healing prowess quickly gained attention, and he found himself taken on as the ship's doctor. The fact that those who were injured and healed by Cain did everything in their power to avoid needing to be "treated" by him again only served to encourage the pirates to hone their combat skills and avoid injury, leading to an even more fearsome crew, much to the captain's pleasure. Cain eventually bought his own freedom from the captain, and has been selling his services as something of a freelance doctor and surgeon as of late. He has been able to eke out a living: his prices are reasonable, and the excruciating pain of his procedures is only temporary.
Role: Healer, face, buffer. In-game, Cain would be shooting for the position of Ship Doctor. At present, he lacks Channel Positive Energy (although will gain that and Selective Channel at level 3), instead largely healing with the Life Link revelation, taking the wounds of others and converting them to his own. Just in case anyone is unfamiliar with the Divine Herbalist, it grants the Healer's Way skill, allowing Cain to heal himself as a swift action similar to Lay on Hands, which will allow him to heal off the damage he takes from healing others with Life Link. ![]()

Appearance:
Tree of Life appears very similar to a dryad; her hair is made of verdant leaves, and her skin appears as the coarse wood of a tree trunk. Her body is covered in lichen and moss, with vines growing and flowers blooming to form clothing that covers her body. As of late, however, the various iterations of plant life have begun to slowly decay, and show signs of wilting. Her vines have turned brown and her hair has grown bright and brittle, as leaves in autumn. Background:
In many myths and legends, a bold hero must seek out the golden fruit that ripens on the tree of life, or the water that grows at her feet. Whether it is to win a princess' hand, to save an ailing ruler, or simply to prolong their own life, the tree of life marks the quest's end goal, and her vitality-giving powers feed the future.
Tree of Life once celebrated such tales, and her role in them. As of late, however, she has grown to resent her place as a mere means to an end. An item to be sought, rather than an entity all her own. Personality:
Tree of Life once held a humble outlook of her own life, and was satisfied to extend others' lives without asking anything in return. Now, though...
Tree of Life has become a braggart as of late. While she still possesses much of the kindness of her former self, she has developed a superiority complex. It is only by her benevolence that lesser creatures may be granted her healing powers. As she has also come to fear her own possible death as her vitality lessens, she is trying to ensure that at least her story lives on forever, and makes certain that any who encounter her know her name. Story/Tale:
Many tales, such as The White Snake, or Water of Life. What's Missing:
Tree of Life has lost her ability to bear the fruit that grants immortality. Moreover, she has lost a sense of identity, and struggles to find a new role to fill as she slowly withers. Tree of Life will be a shaman with the life spirit. I am also considering making her a Speaker for the Past, tying into the immortality theme in her stories. It would also allow her to give up the need for a familiar, which would probably work better with her personality. |
