Buhayra inspects the damage and sucks wind through her teeth.
"It is a pretty nasty gap captain, but it is high enough above the water line that I don't think it poses a danger to the ship. We can harness one of the men up and have them tack up some extra sail cloth on the outside in the daylight. It will be a bit of an eyesore, but it will keep most of the wind and moisture out until we can get the hull repaired properly."
How bad is the damage? Is it something that can be patched while we are on the water, or will it require a port?
Adding to the party inventory sheet. If someone can make use of it you are welcome to it (presumably just as a spear because I don't think any of us have EWP: Harpoon)...otherwise the value of 8,305 will make for a nice bump the next time we go sell stuff.
Hey GMs, up to this point you have been telling us directly when we pick up something that is magical and letting us know what it is. Not RAW, but since it has been in the player's favor and helps move things along without lots of extra posts I haven't complained. :)
Are we moving away from that to a more standard "identify the item" process? If so I will stow the harpoon until we get it to someone that can ID it for us and then we can decide what to do with it.
Buhayra watches from the rear deck as the Deathknell falls below the waves.
"Well that was an adventure that I hope we don't have to repeat anymore. Hey Kehl, I know you are busy with piloting right now, but I grabbed this harpoon on the way out, the ghost captain had it. Since it was previously owned by undead I don't want it if it is like cursed or something. Do you think you and Madiya could give it a once over?"
I figure a detect magic might be due for an item picked up from what seems to have been a miniboss. Also evil undead though, so would not be surprised if it is cursed...not sure how someone could find that out except for blundering into it.
Buhayra shields her eyes as the bell begins to put out light like a too close star. When the brightness passes and the captain is nowhere to be seen she is exultant.
"Ha! That will show you! I guess we can take a look around and see if there is any booty worth carrying away?..."
The sound of rushing water rises from below decks and the ship begins to list dangerously to the starboard side.
"...or not. Seems like we have overstayed our welcome."
She rushes behind the others back to the Challenger, sparing the briefest of moments to see if there is any trophy she can scoop up on the way. Perhaps the captain left that harpoon behind, or there is some treasure on the deck of some kind.
On the run perception check, always loot the bodies!:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Think I got passed last round...can I just take the move to get into position and then full round action this round against the bell? It will let me gather power into an empowered blast without taking burn. Gonna post assuming that is okay and we can retcon as necessary.
Moving up onto the rear deck, Buhayra swirls her arms around her, gathering power from the storm and pushing it into a torrent of cold energy at the bell.
Ranged Touch v Bell:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Empowered Cold Damage on Hit (1.5*dice):3d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 6, 5) + 4 = 20+8 = 28
Buhayra follows after Tamesis to get closer to the strange undead first mate.
Acrobatics:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 But she drops awkwardly and wrenches her ankle on the landing, letting out a small surprised yelp as she falls to the deck, prone.
Lethal Damage from poor drop:1d6 ⇒ 3
Pulling herself back to her feet, she readies for the oncoming next phase.
"That could have been a little bit more graceful."
Since I fell prone I don't make it up to midship this round, so I guess will see if I get paralyzed with fear next round.
Sorry I wasn't around yesterday...suddenly very busy at work so ability to goof off at my desk is a little bit more limited.
I will try to make some updates today at lunch and then again tonight after dinner. Will still be able to do once per day, but my previous ability to do more than once per day will probably be curtailed quite a bit.
I did a quick mock up of where the ships might be based on our posts so far and the map from the previous encounter (see slide 2)...I have not placed any of the monsters on the map.
Obviously, if you see it in any way different from this please make changes...but I hope that helps.
"Sven! We can fight the battle for today. We need you to destroy that bell. Hopefully it will prevent us from having to fight this battle again and again. Use that spell Madiya cast on you to go ring THEIR bell!"
Rushing up next to Kehlysch, Buhayra picks her target and sends another cold blast through the air.
Light balista have a range of 120', How many of those two to three shots are within my extended range where I can start taking potshots at the undead on deck? Going to post assuming that I can, please adjust or ignore as necessary
"Here they come Madiya! Cast your spell to hide Sven and a few others and then let's blast them while we can!"
Heading over to the aft-port side of the ship, Buhayra pulls energy from the cold air surrounding her and blasts at one of the figures on deck of the oncoming ghost ship.
Given our last encounter, if Buhayra can make out specific targets she will aim for the first mate guy. But if not she will pick a target randomly. Specifically she wants to avoid the captain for now if possible to prevent the same disappearing act as last time.
"What can we do to prepare though? Did anyone think to buy more holy water while we were in town?I meant to but totally forgot.Without that we don't have the consecrated circle that Sandara made for us last time. I don't know how much it helped though."
Buhayra thinks over their options for a few minutes.
"Sven, the main thing is to get you to the bell as quickly as possible. What if you did your water thingy like you did when we took the Winter's Bite? You become water before the ship arrives that way you can sneak up and board the ship while we deal with the soggy zombies. Maybe you can get to the bell and destroy it before they know you are there?"
"I am as ready as I can be. Unless anyone knows what kind of threats we might encounter at the Rock? If we had more intelligence then more specific last minute preparations might be able to be made."
Are any of the crew disembarking at this port? Also, I don’t think Anyone made any roles to recruit new crew. I don’t know if we need it, but the whole “enlist now” speech is not Buhayra’s thing, so just wanted to put it out there for others.
Back on the ship Buhayra sees Madiya sighting down her cross bow and launching bolts into a target barrel 60’ down the deck.
“Hey Madiya! I picked up some magic bolts a few weeks back. Everyday it seems less likely that I will ever use them. Do you want them? You use your crossbow a whole lot more than I use mine.”
Assuming Madiya expresses interest Buhayra turns over her 3 screaming bolts (+2) as well as the 4 +1 crossbow bolts that were in the bag of holding.
There, now that transfer of ownership has happened ic.
I was just think base nonmagic mithral armor and a belt, but I couldn’t to justify her buying the mithril when it didn’t give any more protection than her me armor. Belt of dex or con, or both!, will have to be later.
https://tshirt.tunder.org/thumbnail/300/gallery/ANd9GcQM0sW261uCKEdfo2NENfk gYlwYGexYfarFa5wTttRy_VR7G8ZEYQ. jpg link worked for me...It's not a great pic, but you work with what you can find when you are not artistic yourself.
Running with the assumption that the group purchases are okay (as Sven did) so I can get my purchases done.

Feeling satisfied with the work done on the ship, Buhayra takes the next day to go around town and focus on herself. She shops around for a bit, admiring fancy gem rings and powerful swords that she would have no use for.
She doesn't really find anything she needs until she comes across a beautiful silvery shirt hanging lightly on a form at one shop. A pale blue stone sits just above the sternum, reflecting the light. The gem appears to spark with some kind of internal energy.
An old dwarvish woman with a snake on her shoulders comes up to the counter from the back, noticing Buhayra's covetous gaze."Ah. That my dearey is a powerful piece of magical armor. I doubt you could afford it. But potions. I have potions if you please?"
Buhayra's gaze barely breaks from the armor as she addresses the shop keeper. "It's magic too? What does it do?"
"Well, that kind of depends on you. The armor itself is Mithril Chain, so light and flexible you will barely notice that you wear it. But it provides the magic protection of armor much heavier. In addition, a spell can be stored in the gem to discharge against your assailant. As a bonus for the purchase I have charged the armor with a shocking little surprise, but once discharged you would have to cast a new spell in it yourself," the old arcanist's eye sizes Buhayra up and rightly determines that she does not have the magical ability to do so, "or find someone else to charge it for you. If you stay around town my services can of course be retained for that purpose."
Buhayra is no longer listening. She begins to dig for the large money pouch she kept in her pack for safe keeping. "How much?
Hoping the spell casters in the group don't mind charging up my armor from time to time? :) Just if you have a spare spell left over at the end of the day.
Okay...so that puts it in colossal territory with a base price of 10k...so reposting the purchase list here:
Current gold to use and split: 35,483
Wand of CLW or Infernal Healing? 750
Rapid Deploy Sails? 1000
Silk Sails? 1500
Broad Rudder? 500
Ram? 1000
Siege Alchemist's Fire? 200/shot
Siege Chain Shot? 50/shot
Balista Bolts? 10/shot
Catapult Stones? 10/shot
Anything else the group should buy?
I don't know the current status of our balista bolt supply...but starting from zero and making some assumptions for the other players, if we buy everything I would say we should pick up:
5 Alchemist's Fire 1k
5 Chain Shots 250
20 Balista Bolts 200
20 Catapult Stones 200
And Kehl recommended 2 wands, although I believe Madiya is the only one that can use them. (1500) Is everyone okay with Infernal healing on these? Buhayra probably won't like it, but as a player I am fine with it, and for out of combat healing it is just flat out better.
So that would bring the party shopping spree to a total of 7,150, leaving 28333 to split amoungst the party, so 4722 gold, 1 silver, and 6 copper each.
Please say yes, no, maybe, and if you want to adjust the quantities on ammunition let's talk about it.
Still need to know stats on the community we are in, because all of this hinges on the assumption that we can sell everything and purchase everything here, which may not be the case.
Okay then. Picking up where Tamesis left off, If we are able to sell everything here (+1 morningstar, +1 light wooden shield, Shackles of Compliance, Oil of Taggit, Perilous Gloves, Vindictive Harpoon) then we would add 13883 to the 21.6k already mentioned.
Is there anything that the party needs to buy as a group? We are in the area where we could think about getting a wand of CLW or Infernal Healing for out of combat healing (Infernal Healing is actually more optimal so long as you are okay with the negative connotations of the spell, which how heavily that is RPed varies from GM to GM and game to game). Unless, I can't remember, did we already do that?
Tamesis and Madiya are also looking at upgrades to the ship, which I feel like should come out pre break. While Madiya uses the seige weapons on board, I don't think it is fair to make her buy that ammunition herself.
So:
Wand of CLW or Infernal Healing? 750
Rapid Deploy Sails? 10% of base ship cost
Silk Sails? 15% of base ship cost
Broad Rudder? 500
Ram? 50 - 100 gp?
Siege Alchemist's Fire? 200/shot
Siege Chain Shot? 50/shot
Balista Bolts? 10/shot
Catapult Stones? 10/shot
Anything else the group should buy?
We need to decide on these items as a group (and verify if we can sell everything else here) before we can determine what the split of gold is.
GM - what is the base cost of our ship so we can slot in costs for the Rapid and Silk? Also, what size is our ship as that affects the cost of the Ram? I think you said once before, but I can't remember.
Are we still on that first day? I am okay with retconning to make the repairs be done at the end of it as described, but say 2 I need to go do some shopping if plot allows. Not much since kineticists are low we builds, in a kind of frustrating way actually. But still good to go do some.
Did we ever get the community stats for the port city we are in? Need to know what I am likely able to find to plan the shopping trip.
The +1 crossbow bolts Madiya might be able to use...I also have 3 +2 screaming crossbow bolts I have been carrying around since when we killed Scourge I think. We are getting pretty close to when I will not likely ever use a crossbow, so if she wants those she can have them, otherwise I say we sell them too.
The vindictive harpoon is such a nice magic item, unfortunately none of us are built for it (stupid exotic weapon proficiency). Same for the Perilous Gloves.
Holding off on my next post for now. I have consumed 1 day of game time on my first post...so there is a bit of synchronization that needs to happen with the other players.
Also, want to know how my three workers and I did on the repairs before I make another post...to decide if I should ask the captain to shell out for drydock and when/if I am going to get to shop on this stop. :)
Can you take a 10 on craft carpentry? If so I would prefer to do that than have the random chance of a die roll, assuming that the DC for these repairs is 16 or lower.
Will wait for a response to the implied question of how long and how many workers I need before...
I'll say you can't take 10 while out at sea, but in dock, you can. Circumstances are a little more controllable while docked. If you get your hands on a dry dock (you'll have to pay extra for that one), you can take 20. Sound fair?
Fair to me. I will hold off on pushing for dry dock until I know if my 16 is making any progress.
Buhayra spins back to the crew members that are excitedly exiting the boat to enjoy some shore leave.
"Bosun Cog! Assign three men to repair work with me. They will miss out on some of the revelry, but I will make the time worth their while. Individuals that can swing a hammer and hit a nail instead of their hand if you please. I am going to go procure some supplies. Have them start on the work and when I return you will be relieved."
Buhayra heads down the gangplank in search of tools and supplies to make the repairs. She holds off on shopping for her own interests until after the work is done.
Buhayra is purchasing a set of Masterwork Artisan's tools (carpentry) , because I just realized I don't have any. That will help with the checks. I am assuming in port it will be easy enough to find some. Marking off the 55 gp to purchase them
When Buhayra arrives back at the ship about an hour later she relieves Cog as promised and sets to work shimming and shaping boards to replace the damaged lumber of the ship. As she works she tries to get a sense of the scope of the damage and if she and the three crew members will be able to handle it themselves, or if she will need to call in more workers the following day.
Craft (Carpentry):1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10Can you take a 10 on craft carpentry? If so I would prefer to do that than have the random chance of a die roll, assuming that the DC for these repairs is 16 or lower.
At the end of the day Buhayra addresses the workers.
"You men have done fine work today. I know it wasn't your first choice to continue to labor while in port, but the rest of the crew thanks you for it."
She gives a small purse with 10 gold to each of them and dismisses them to find whatever entertainment interests them for the evening.
Will wait for a response to the implied question of how long and how many workers I need before I post further.
Are we thinking that the crew and I can make the repairs to the Challenger ourselves or do we need to spend some money on that as well? I think that is the only thing left for us to know before we lay claim to our cuts.
I also cannot see any immediately available information about phrasman titles in open source. I would imagine that if the documentation exists it would not be online, but only in books.
It is an excellent place to just homebrew some info though since it isn't super impactful.
Looking over this I would imagine that Pharasmin clergy might be titled in recognition of the work they do. Maybe Keeper of Graves, Life Keeper, or maybe just Keeper.
We should hold off on divying the gold until we know what the portage and repair fees are going to be. That should come out of party funds, so out of the 21.6k. Then we can split the remainder 6 ways.
Start entangling enemies for 1 minute on each hit (Reflex DC 19 to negate). If they don't spend their action and make the DC 19 Strength or Acrobatics to disentangle then I can root them to the spot the following round. Costs 2 burn, but if I am within 30' I can gather power and Infusion Specialization to do it for free on a full round.
Also a new damage die and the ability to empower for 1 burn (or for free as a full round with gather power) means I can do up to 4.5d6 now with my blast.
Like I said. It's a good level for her.
Honestly I am pretty excited about every level up from here until 8. 8 is a little slow, just picking up Healing Burst and Infusion Spec (2).
It takes Buhayra a shameful amount of time before she is finally able to drag herself up onto the deck of the ship, panting and dripping sea water like a drowned rat.
"Ships...are not...supposed to...vanish! What the hell?!?"
