But that's just MY opinion, and I'm sure there are plenty more ;-)

Honestly, I think the problem for many is that they simply don't engage in fantasy role-play with the intent of pursuing (or having catered to) a particular political or social agenda. I have nothing against gay couples - I don't want issues like abortion or gun control in my campaigns either. The idea of one NPC selling a family heirloom so that another NPC can have a sex-change operation might seem romantic or noble, but there is absolutely nothing about it that says 'fantasy adventure' to me.

Exactly.

In my gaming group I just turned Irabeth into a ugly, gruff, frontier human man and the girdle into a cure for a degenerative muscle disease similar to MD Anevia has been suffering for years. Works well so far.

So, where are the Demon Lords? :)

Are we going to see at least one in the book, or shall we expect a new Bestiary? Or another book entirely?

Back in topic, there I was thinking about examples of Mythic characters in D&D: the Chosen of Mystra/Bane/whatever are a clear example if I got it right, also Araevin. Maybe Vecna in Greyhawk (before it's first death) or Kyuss. I can't think of lower level Mythic heroes right now.

Sesh of course I know the real Tesla, it's my favorite Heavy Metal band.

(hey it was a joke, just in case someone didn't get it)

Is that the guy who invented the Tesla Armor in Fallout?

Is Dark Tapestry somehow related to the dark recesses of the Abyss where Qlippoth "live"?

Another "OT" question but since I am here... can a bard confer his friends bonuses even if he doesn't see them? We were discussing about this a few weeks ago when playing Skinsaw Murders - the evil windmill cleric climbed up the ladder to the pigeon room and a combat ensued in close quarters between him and a PC, the bard who was fighting in the bottom floor was using his ability to inspire courage to his friends but I was unsure someone who could not see nor hear him clearly could get the bonus. According to the bard player, it's a magical speherical emanation, while to me to be inspired one has to actually understand what the bard says.

All these tables scream for a good treasure generator software. Maybe just a page on the PRD.

I know it's technically impossible, but it's really painful to know someone is already reding it and I can't because I am preordering the deluxe edition. Would be nice to be able to buy the PDF now (40 USD) and have those 40 USD discounted when the collector edition is out. Looks like win-win to me even though it's certainly difficult from an administrative point of view.

...Publishing Greyhawk;
*sigh*

Not really. There are a lot of things that don't make sense. Each person just has to decide what they can or can not accept. There was a thread compiling a list of such things not to long ago.

Maybe we will get a bladesinger for the elves or is that not OGL?

Anything and everything Forgotten Realms is not OGC.

Would make for a decent fan conversion Magus archetype, though.

Bladesingers are not FR, they were introduced in the Complete Book of Elves (2e). Besides, wardancers from Warhammer are not that dissimilar, I guess the cocnept is not that weird.

Dual weapon wielding drows aren't FR either, they were introduced in Unearther Arcana (1e) as well.

Same thing for dual weapon wielding drows, they were an option in Gygax' Unearthed Arcana (1e).

Thank you very much!

Hi all,

I’ve started on a Pathfinder Conversion for G3 Hall of the Fire Giant King. It’s based on daemonslye's 3.5e version (the best starting point I could find) with a mass of my own personal story embellishments. After 15 pages I can see why it takes years for some people to complete a conversion and have a new found appreciation for daemonslye's skill at page layout and font selection. Anyhow, I’ve only got 4 weeks to get this done for my players so progress has been posted for comment and a looksee.

You can download it here G3 Hall of the Fire Giant King (Pathfinder Conversion).pdf

The first 15 pages are up. This URL won't change but the file will so if you download it later there will be progressively more content.

Cheers,
Silke

I would like to see it as well, can someone pm me the files?

Speaking about Bestiary 3 why did they strip weapon immunity to Guardian Daemons? That's what made the one we see in Elric stories unique!

Maybe some monster from Tomb of Horrors or one of the Bestiaries?
Wow, Hateful Legacy! That's awesome, Beek. Honestly I don't have any suggestions off the top of my head. Those Libris Mortis monsters were fairly unique, so there hasn't been a lot of crossover with them. Maybe some sort of demon or daemon specializing in disease? Alternately, though it's flavor is a little different, the black jinn from LoF (PF #23) might work in a pinch. If I think of something else, I'll post it. I hope you enjoy the adventure!
Maybe a leukodaemon?

A leukodaemon would work very well indeed. Not sure if I am using it as the bbeg (the party is made up of 6 of average level 10) but I am using 1 somewhere for sure.

Thanks Greg for the reply I'll check Legacy of Fire!
I am still reading the module, I had just to tweak the beginning since the characters were in Bissel and not Ket. I'll let you know how it goes!

Interesting...wonder how Frog God is getting away with it then. They are even including proper names like Gaurak Troll. Weird. Fair enough. That's too bad though because there are a lot of cool monsters in those books (the various hags, savant hydras, et al).

Creature Collection Revised and Creature Collection III were 3.5.

I imagine that with the various Pathfinder AP entries and other stuff you have plenty of monsters for the next Bestiary anyway.

FGG has a special relationship with the Creature Collections through Necromancer Games (Bill's prior company) which originally helped produce the Creature Collections. So that has given us some leeway that is not otherwise extant for everyone. There has been debate in FGG about whether to keep the non-OGL Monster Manual monsters in Rappan Athuk (beholders, mind flayers, and such) since it was a NG product and NG had special permission from WotC to do so, but ulimately we opted to not go that direction just to avoid any potential entanglements.

It is unfortunate about the weird "names being non-OGL" thing for the CC books, so we'll try to get them as much exposure as possible on behalf of the old books through some FGG releases, but unless White Wolf rescinds that policy somehow, I think James is right.

The wait is killing me! I check email every 5 minutes to see if my subscription shipped yet agrgh!

Eventually, would I be able to use Pathfinder Advantage as AP subscriber to get 15% discount on the whole bundle? (100 USD is not 85 but better than 120).

It was in the blog on the front page.

Not on the page I saw. Anyway, an opportunity lost, I'll keep a closer look on ebay.

*vzsljnvdaegbldnfbd*asf*asdgag** <- curses heavily

Sigh, I guess I'll never get that AP.

Some days ago I saw a special price for complete adventure path bundles and bookmarked it, I was about to order today but they disappeared. Was that a one day limited offer???
I must have been blind because I didn't see the expiry date or I'd have bought the Legacy of Fire AP immediately!

Thanks Jeff, in case nothing else shows up I'll get info in Lastwall from the new Campaign Setting - besides, I can also reuse some Tar Baphon lore for Vecna (The Spidered Empire should have been close to what is now Veluna).

I am running a Greyhawk campaign and my players are in Veluna right now. TSR never released a Veluna gazetteer and the LG website doesn't bear much information I can reuse. I would like to adapt some Golarion player's companion - what would you suggest? Taldor looked Ok but then I found it closer to Keoland or Furyondy. Veluna is a highly religious "holy kingdom" devoted to the god of Peace and run by a "pope"-like figure.
Any ideas?

I'd really like a Treasure Generator and an equipment generator by class/level. I have seem some but they're all flawed.

besides what I said before, I am of the opinion you should have described exactly, even with a diagram, a drawing, of a clear nested bullet list with descriptive text, how the items in your equipment are stored. If you don0t do it, then it's the DM's ground to figure out for you.
Your DM spends whole evenings preparing play, the least a good player could do is add some details to the character's sheet every week, equipment and encumbrance included. I might be a bit harsh on this, but it seems obvious to me that sometimes players are too light on description and just pick up items during play the way it looks more useful to them. You don't write it on your list - you don0t have it. You don't write down where it is or how it is stored, DM decides. As simple as that.
And if that's n the bottom of the backpack... well, I second what said before, it will take 3 or 4 full rounds minimum to pick it out.

My opinion.
DM is God, and God describes reality. You cannot disagree on reality as much as you can't disagree with an apple falling down a tree.
Therefore, if the DM says it takes two rounds to retrieve an item becouse it's in the bottom of the backpack so it is. He looks into a parallel dimensions and tells you how things ARE, they're not to be argued about, period.
When I DM, I try to explain aìnd be fair. If my player had a knife sheated and wrapped in clothes under a few dozen other items stuffed in a backpack and fastened with half a dozen straps, then I would rule out it takes at least 25-30 seconds to pull it out, that is 4 or 5 full rounds.
Does it "break the rules"? So what? If the player told me the dagger was sheated and the sheat fastened to the outside of the backpack, arm's length to the player without even having to unload the backpack, I might even have him get it as a free action. It all depends how the player helps me out figure it, becouse the way I figure it is the truth, period.

Ran both adventures and had TPKs with both. Thank you!

Besides, has anybody converted MST to Pathfinder (without scaling encounters to CR4)?

The weird thing is when 3e came out, everybody in my group of play was excited because they could finally write up two fighters and through use of feats and skills, make them mechanically different. Looking hindsight, it looks like we abandoned a problem for another.

I am also interested in seeing how this built-in-the-mechanics thing is handled: we have a system whose main dice is a d20... once the variables on the d20 roll surpass the +/-20 range, how would they keep the system intact?

Talking seriously, I am eager to see "mythic levels" rules. I know Paizo won't overload the world with epic-level monsters and wizards. I am ready to bet we will see very, very few epic characters around, and those who are going to be epic will be just that, EPIC, not the nth 25th level wizard that's at the head of a big city academy. They will have epic stories and backgrounds and epic placement in the world.

Mechanics-wise, I prefer to play up to 6th level like some on this boards. Realism just goes to (9) hell(s) after 6th level anyway, so why not pushing our limites even more. 12th level characters are already super-heroes, so let's see how cosmic-level works.

All this said, I am curious to see how such powerful characters are handled "realistically" in the setting. When a country-levelling wizard wakes, entire nations should assist in fear...

Because it's an incredibly complicated topic that we want to do right rather than rush into production and rue that for the rest of the game's life. And because more people play (and thus pay for) products set in the 1st to 20th level range.

Well that's a great reason to start playtesting NOW! :)

On the othaer hand the encounters at the sawmill were really ridicolous. All the skinsaw cultists were reaped in.a single round by the bwrbarian. I had to rebuff itonbriar and add two summoned babaus to make at least the final encounter moderately challenging. The cultists were just an annoyance and despite the spells and poers, were wiped out in a second.

Also, i know lots of players a have read about karzoug so far, bud i would not like to have spoilers on the cover. When westarted the campaign the runelords were only legends of the past, but then they found spoilers jus abou anywhere. When hey saw cover of sknsaw men they saw the ghouls on cover, and same went witn the stone giants...

Will you restat the encounter with Xanesha? Every time I played it it's been a TPK or almost... when I did some math after PFRPG was released, I think I realized that encounter was 6 or 7 CRs above the party level.

Sgmendez wrote:
I have a question. Does this have the player's guide contained within it?

I'd be surprised if it didn't.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Player misreading a psionic power in AD&D2E during a Dark Sun campaign. He read "the psionicist can transform into a rock" as "can transform into a ROC". The colossal-size birds. We were 3rd level at the time...

My favorite however is "frost brand +3/+6 vs fire using/dwelling creatures". The player (same one as above) interpreted it as a sword that is +6 against fire using creatures, and everybody who DWELLS. Understand? "DWELLING CREATURES". Basically everybody in the multiverse.
I laughed for years...

Well well well, looks like we have plenty of rules to include Murlynd in my GH campaign now :)

I would like to get one copy too, I know I am late and have no high hopes there's any available, but in case Lisa still has one for sale I am getting it. I live in Italy but I am a subscriber so maybe we can combine shipments.

Personally, I have had enough monsters so far, and the extra ones in AP just ive me that extra edge I need without new Bestiary books.
I'd be curious to see

1 - Epic rules
2 - Psionics made the Paizo way (that is, properly)
3 - Alternative rules

Period.

And since we're on speculative ground, I'd like to see some hardcover super-module like Ptolus or Shakled City as well.

Also this is the first module that behaves this way. All my old ones are perfect.

My ipad shipped with 4.3.3 and iam holding this version for *aehm* various reasons. Besides, i have seen the latest 2 upgrades are relatively minor.
