Her eyes widen at this, and she nods her head somewhat.

"A powerful thing then - and I wonder if the former leader of that rabble understood its true power. But no matter - for he is dead. And - as for turning metals into gold? That much I knew - which is why I was not impressed over much; for wealth is less then life... But if this thing can bring back the dead swiftly - and with no error - that is a great thing."

She ponders for a moment.

"This is great thing to gain, I should think - yet, it does bring me some concern. For if the gods saw fit to grant us such a boon - then I would ask - what need sped it hence to our hand?" she adds half to herself.

"For now, though - I would think there are many things to wonder on... But, it is for the gods to decide," she adds with a shrug.

"Oh no sahib - that is hardly valuable I should think. It is, of course - a small thing, really. I would think the scroll that return one from the dead is far more valuable then mere wealth. But - we shall see," Anaitis says, looking up with lidded eyes from her place by the fire.

Nodding her head toward Anaitis in thanks for her diligence, she turns her focus onto the newcomer,

"Aye, I am leader of this land. My name is Ariarh Kane, sir", warily glancing at the giant wolf named Blackfang. "How did you hear of our land and purpose? And what do you seek from the owners of this land?"

Diplomacy: 1d20+10

"It would be wise to answer her with truth - and have a care - she is no mere mortal - but of divine blood! If you lie, or hide your true purpose - it shall not go well for you," she adds sternly, backing up Ariarh.

"Again - you are the newcomer - and have yet to declare yourself. Who is your lord - and what is your purpose here?" she adds, looking at you as she awaits her orders - clearly upset that you are still refusing to speak to your reason here.

At this point, Ariarh comes riding in fast and reins in her horse a little behind Lia and Revion.

She notices Anaitis' threatening stance and Lia's presumably calm concentration.

"Well met, stranger. You have entered the lands of Praxis. I am Baroness Kane. I do not speak Osiriani so I ask you speak in the Common tongue. What do you seek upon these lands?"

Diplomacy: 1d20+10

Seeing Ariarh’s presence, Anaitis bows low.

”Begging your ladyship’s pardon – this is southron – he speaks with the accent of the southern folk of a certainty – and he rides north even now. My lady – I would ask you to be cautious. Meanwhile – what are you orders Imperatrix ?” she adds, her eyes still on the four-armed creature, sitting on a horse-sized wolf, with glowing red eyes.

Female

Anaitis ignores the comment and checks her mount forward – riding slowly up the “four-armed man”. Her eyes wander over him, and his gear – and she carefully studies the wolf in front of her.

Her mood is weary – she is tired of these newcomers who ride over the land as if it is their own. Certainly she has no illusions herself – this is not her land – but rather; she rides it as a trusted servant would, following the whim of her lord. Even so – this figure who sits so casually in front of her is riding north, even as the folk she was deployed to discover came from the south. Further – it was from the south that dark things had issued forth from the ruined city – the same city that her allies had been broken with torture and dark sacrifice. Indeed – she was suspicious of such folk.

Meanwhile – with little to back her but this brash half-elf who seemed to forgive the presence of this outrider – she tread cautiously… It was dangerous business to deal with a creature with such powers – and her mind suddenly roamed over all the knowledge she possessed of four armed creatures – and none of it pleasant – the most hideous being the Mantis Men of the deep deserts – tall creatures like giant insects – that had four arms and chitin over their organs – and ate elves as delicacy…

She steeled her spirit though, and waited for an answer, her hand tightening on her sword hilt.

"My blood, eh? You come from the south - and I know your tongue - but it is not the language of the northmen - in whose land you now ride. Speak plain the language of these folk, if you would have them understand you better..." she adds, watching his face, searching for clues as to his true origin.

As the riders approach, a cloaked figure pulls his mount to a stop, a good 100 feet away.

A cloaked figure reigns back a large wolf, jet black and the size of a horse. An air of tension surrounds the figure, a shield on his arm, and a fine lookin lance raised firmly in the direction of the approching riders.

As they get closer, and it is apparent that they are scouting and not charging him, he lowers the lance and calls out.

Hold there, riders, i would know, are you friend or foe?"

The rider is shrouded head to toe in robes and a heavy cloak, but beneath his hood, red eyes glint back against the ever descending sun. The immense wolf huffles a bit and cocks its head to the side, apparently favoring a torn ear. The rider shifts uneasily on the beast, and as the cloak moves from his shoulders, there is clearly something odd about this man. Just above the midsection, two other arms are folded, resting on the saddle with fingers interlaced.

I have traveled a ways yet, and wish to know, Is this the new land of rumor that welcomes all that I venture into?

”What is this, demon?” Anaitis calls out, drawing out her blade, her eyes flashing at the rider at the sight of the extra limbs.

”Further – you are the stranger: declare yourself first, as we have seen the death of comrades over yon plain – and have no time to waste with such prattle. Speak then! Who is your master – and what brings you to this place?” she adds, her hand gripping the hilt of the blade with the Aboleth runes etched deeply in it with a practiced ease.

You hear a distinct accent in her voices – her elongated “S’s” are coupled with a heavy accent that sounds like the folk of Orision. You are not sure of it though – but it seems that she may be a southerner – and at the least – you can see beyond her that there is indeed a company of folk – perhaps twenty or thirty – off in the distance.

Isani's Knowledge, Religion re Nun and Nunet: 1d20+10

Ariarh takes a deep breath, barely audible, yet necessary for her to keep presence of mind. The religious inferences brought up by Anaitis were not entirely unfamiliar to her. Yet the Osirion culture was as vast and mysterious as the deepest oceans and she had to tread carefully lest she escalate the issue between her Priestess and the Yuan-ti female.

"Enough of this, please. I am grateful that you feel I must be warned to the possible nature of one travelling in my party, known to me longer than yourself. Yet, I say this with respect and candor, Priestess Isani herself disclosed the truth of her maternal bloodline when you asked her on the boat during the crossing and you seemed undisturbed by it and even acted friendly in her direction. I know some of the story of Nun and Nunet, husband and wife, duality, deities of chaos and water. It is no secret Isani's mother is a sea hag and she has never hidden the truth from any of us. But do we judge a heart and soul based on blood flowing in their veins? We reached out and rescued your people even though you were sided with the evil cultists. Did we kill you as you stood based on your appearance and knowledge that you switched sides as plain as breathing? Nay, we ask questions, observe and practice patience. Your actions earlier with Brett Rowan may have appeared innocent and necessary in your eyes, but in ours? You took away his will and replaced it with your own -- it is as simple as that. Your intent may have been for good, I am not accusing you of trickery for I believe that in your heart you believe you have done right by him. In my world, our culture, one asks permission or gains a level of trust before undertaking such ... actions even for a perceived benefit. I can understand Isani's wariness and as you would protect your Lord, she would protect me for many eyes are better than two. There...

Religion checks -

You're pretty much spot on on your observations - but there is further element on things.

Supposedly changlings - as they age - will eventually feel a call from their mothers line - the call will encourage the changeling unto a quest, in which they eventually embrace their dark side, and become part of a coven, or resist it... This quest tends to be both dark and dangerous - not just for the individual - but for the allies.

This is likely not a surprise to you - however, on top of that is the belief that this prompting comes from the dual nature of darkness - she is afraid of the deep waters. When chaos rises from the deep, it comes from evil and darkness - both are in keeping with religious rituals - and the servants of the creatures of the deep.

This fear she has can be seen as good news and bad news - and here's why.

It's bad news because it means that what she is really afraid of are the creatures of the underwater that speak the language of the Aboleth - those creatures - and what they do - are linked heavily the faith of Azathoth - which you know enough about already.

It's GOOD news because though Anaitis is worried about that - more then fear is an overriding desire to deal with the concern - to fight it - to resist it - so much that if she even thinks that a creature may serve this dark desire, she wants to fight it. That means that she'll most likely want to help you fight the evil, and is not likely to side with it...

However, she listens to you and says nothing, then bows and says.

"You are liege lord to my Master - to hear is to obey. I will not disrespect you, nor your agents again. Apologies," she says, and though she is somewhat frustrated that you would take Isani's side - she is clearly sincere in the issue of her apology, and is not being sarcastic.

Ariarh reaches out a hand and gently grasps the Priestess' arm in a show of camaraderie and understanding. She turns to the Yuan-ti, Brett's new girl, and her Aasimar eyes are striking, sincere and a dark shade of blue. "My Priestess seeks to protect me, a task she has accepted of her own free will. The words spoken to you were of no insult for her nature is not so. Her manner of speech is direct, forthright. If you do not like it, you do not. But do not speak to her in the manner that you have. I am no creature's Master; Brett Rowan is not your Master, he is simply someone who aided in your release. My party is indebted to the Priestess for her service and her loyalty. I see I have made a mistake coming to you but I thought you were friendly enough earlier. If you will not aid us, then I shall seek my own answers. In regard to my General, I will discover his whereabouts and there will be no sating of desire between him and this Kemat. Good night, Anaitis." Ariarh's words are not rude or angry. Still, they hold an edge, a leader-like directness meant to show that the Yuan-ti female was certainly out of line and reaching too far above herself -- free female or not.

"Isani, at some point this night we should return to the Yuan-ti camp and speak to Sshet, the warrior leader. He seemed willing to speak with us before."

”A moment, lady,” Anaitis says tensely, her eyes following Isani as the dark-haired girl turns away from her.

”I will not have you go with this bad blood between us,” she adds, politely, bowing low before you as a servant would to a master...

”I have no quarrel with you – and I do not fully understand your purpose. I have taken the Hairfoot as my sahib – for that is a matter of honor; and it is just, and right. My decision to do so means I must protect him from danger, even if he is dangerous to himself.”

”Further – we are newly met – and have only traveled with each other for a day – I have not done anything cruel or ill-mannered to you, and have shown you nothing but respect.”

”But this one? She is rude – she is insulting. You say you would not have slaves – that is illogical, but it is your will. Even so – she defies it – for she seeks to force her will on mine, and orders me to do something, or not do something – as a slave. I choose the Hairfoot as my sahib – I chose this – I was not told to do so or suffer. Yet she comes to me – she says “you will do this and this” – very well; if that is the way of things – I will obey; for she has the mastery, and she knows it. But she does not need to be insulting – she does not need to be rude. She does not need to say “do this – or else” – and she implies I used sorcery to manipulate my… would you say “lord” – if not master? Either way – she says this – when it is not so! I did not use magic – I merely convinced with logic.”

”But she insults me – she says either I must have no honor to force my will with sorcery – or I am a fool who attempts to seek dominion over those who are more powerful then I am. Being called a person without honor, or a fool – this is rudeness. I did not say rude things to her – I could have said much – but it would be wrong.”

”I do not wish bad blood with you – your are not only wise – but of the Nephilim – I would help you as well – for you have my allegiance for saving my life. But if she wishes to be rude, it is not nice to be near her. She had no reason to say such things to me, no reason to insult me – unless she doubts me so soon after meeting me. And why would she? She does not yet know me - and if she suspected me as a threat then she should have killed me sooner, rather then let me live only to shame me with such words – yet if she does not doubt me – then she need not be so rude!”

”Even so, lady – you have my alliegance – I still will aid you no matter what path you tread, and if you wish my help – you need only ask. I pray the gods bless you well, if you are not one of them – but be wary of the priestess – I smell on her the scent of the Nunet – when she ages, one day you must watch – she will feel the calling of Nu and Nunet – for you see? There is one aspect for each of her eyes – be careful child of the Sun – she is not as safe as she seems…” Anaitis adds, watching Isani with flinty eyes.

Ry – without making a Sense Motive check you at least can tell Anaitis is very annoyed with Isani – she seems genuinely insulted, and you have a suspicion that in her culture, if she really felt that angry or insulted, even if I wasn’t or on purpose – she would pursue a duel with Isani. The fact that she does not either says she’s afraid – or (more likely) – she’s actually trying to restrain herself. In either case – she is worried for you – and feels that in time you need to keep an eye on the southerner… There may be more to it then that, though… Clearly, she senses something, but what it is – you don’t know yet – though you could ask…

FYI - Sseht is not a female... and as for Kemat - if you really want to stop any... indulgences - you may want to track down Kae... He's been a bit more "friendly" with the Yuan-ti then you have been, it seems...

Isani's Diplomacy with Anaitis: 1d20+12

Anaitis looks at you with a wry smile.

”You wish to find a female to speak to, and not a male? I wonder at this method of inquiry – rather; I sense I know the desire for it. Naturally, though – you need not trouble yourself – none of our kind are foolish enough to attempt to seduce the leader of your company for personal goals – excepting of course if they believed they were threatened and having you as a lover would advantage them. Still – in this case, they are not so unwise, I should think… Even so; as you prefer a female – this can be arranged.”

”Our most apt choice – I may think – is a female called “Kemat” – but she may be engaged tonight already with your General; ironically because of the possibility of mating… Rest assured – she could smell the… how do you say… ah! She could smell his desire – she proceeds with that in mind – but they may mate; in which case – she will be indisposed for some time, as she is fairly adept at that skill.”

Anaitis considers a moment.

”Then, of course – you not seeking someone who is truly great in mind, rather – you seek someone who will not cloud your thought, I think… Also – you ask who would be best suited to you? There are several, I think… who would be bestest is difficult to say – for I do not know your purpose.”

She glances over the others, considering – there are only 4 female purebloods – she and Kemat being 2 – the other 2? You are informed that one is a minor priestess, her name is Su-Namun – and she is currently with the idol – doing some sort of prayer. The other is very skilled type of warrior – but not a “front line” fighter – her skills are to focus on being subtle, adept, the kind of person who comes with smiles, and leaves death behind – this last one, this warrior type – she is named “Sedge” – and is versed in poisons, stealth, and all matter of secret deliveries of death.

Given this – who would you prefer to speak to? She can readily introduce you to either Su-Namun or Sedge – but you believe that Anaitis feels that both ladies are not generally to your taste, based on their skill sets. However – she seems to think that, given the options – you’d probably prefer to talk to Sedge, as the warrior type is more likely to be direct and upfront with someone she acknowledges as “master” – which, clearly you are. She at least knows that both adhere to some sort of “honor code” – yet you don’t know how serious that is – as they have already betrayed their own masters.

Anaitis, who is very polite with Ariarh – turns her golden eyes from Ariarh to regard the Changeling, and her words – and Isani would notice that her usual warmth has drained from the eyes, replaced by both suspicion - and possibly something else... Her tongue flickers heavily, as if she is testing something…

In this – I shall Ariarh a knowledge Nature check…

She glances Isani over a moment – but Isani knows that she speaks now in “Ancient Osiriani”.

Ancient Osiriani:

”Lady – you are not my master – nor my liege lord. I took the hairfoot as my master – him I obey for honor. The Nephilihim? Her I obey out of practicality –and because it is the honorable thing to do – as she is kinfolk to who I hold to be divine.”

”You aid my master – you aid also the Nephilihim – be content in these things, and that is enough. But do not speak to me as if you are my master– for you are not. Also - do not suggest I am such a fool as to use sorcery on either my master – as only a person without honor would do that - or the Nephilihim – who can summon fire from heaven to wreak havoc on an entire city – for only a fool would do that. I am neither a fool – nor without honor – and to suggest otherwise is not a good thing, for at the least it offends my feelings, and my pride. And, having been so offended, it clouds my thinking, and prevents me from doing my best to offer help voluntarily – excepting by orders from my master directly. Even then, when one seeks to set themselves up as a person who would insult me, I do not find that encourages me to be as forthcoming with aid as I might have been; for my logic is clouded by emotions that are hurt and insulted, and that is not good. Do we understand each other, child of the seas?”

Isani – you suddenly guess she knows something of your heritage – how this is possible is a bit of a mystery here – but something makes you wonder; possibly her knowledge of the Aboleth culture… For you vaguely recall Arasmes and Shaezon inferring that the creature beneath the water may be one of those beings that spoke the Aboleth language. Even so – how she may know of your personal bloodline is beyond you… In any case - clearly she is not pleased by your insinuations when she has been nothing but (in her eyes) a wonderful help, and may set Ariarh up with a "punk" who's planning on using mind tricks on her. Meanwhile - as of now she is not being as polite to you as the others – but you suspect (now, at least) this is because you are not “top man” of the group, but rather, something about you makes her suspicious (never mind suggesting she's planning on doing something foolish or dishonorable to Airarh) – and you think the source of her suspicion may have to do with your bloodline. What this is – and how she knew of your bloodline – that you don’t know…

Excellent. But I have a feeling Isani would like to work on the writing and confer with Anaitis afterward. She is stil unsure about the snake girl.

Ah - but that is only because Isani has not examined all the facts. Consider at least the final chapter - as it were -

The swamps and filth - a veritable pit of despair and horror for the living tombs of the ape men - and others - have been destroyed - wiped clean - by the wrath of a god...

And how? Why - she summoned righteous flame to ignite the filth and obliterate it!

Oh certainly - a more mundane description may suggest that the flame was technically a summoned Fire Elemental who's very presence caused noxious swamp gases to explode and burn the entire filthy mess to the ground.

But that is only because such an explanation lacks poetry, and passion!

Besides - the Nephilihim is - at the least - self-proclaimed divinity by her bloodline. Of course she is worth worship - and if a greater sun god should walk the earth - no doubt that god would earn MORE worship - but for now; all hail - Ariarh the sun god!

Translated from Aboleth -should you cast the spell after that communication:

Isani drew ever closer to the Lady Druid and the girl Anaitis. The conversation surrounding gods and the snake girl's belief that the Lady Ariarh and Princess Anuk-su were gods walking the earth was bordering on sacrilegious. In the short time they had known each other, Isani held a certain respect for the Aasimar leader, gauged her to have a good heart and soul. Even the dragon princess possessed a goodly nature, although it was acted upon with a child-like petulance and naive hubris. The Lady Ariarh's stability could temper the dragon child's more volatile tendencies, as silver dragons were heralded as the bravest of the dragons, determined to aid the weak and destroy evil in a chivalrous and honourable manner.

Isani begs leave from Ariarh to speak her native tongue and directs her words to Anaitis, ** spoiler omitted **

Her response:

”Who can say who are gods truly, but gods themselves? A lady of faith does not listen to words, but watches deeds – and then she judges those deeds in the scales of her own heart. Your ally – you say she is not a god – she says so – but is it truth, or a test of faith? How can you know, how can you be sure? She may be a god, even if you will not believe it – and see to test you?”

Anaitis’s eyes narrow appraisingly to examine you more carefully, but she still maintains her smile.

”You weigh the gods in your way – but I shall weigh them in my own – that should be enough, eh? You serve them – I serve them – that is enough…”

She looks at your eyes, her own golden, snake-like eyes flitting back and forth between your own.

”Your own face – it is not from here? Tell me – what plane do you come from? You are not of this place either? Or are you? Surely you are no child of this plane – even as the so claimed Nephilim – even as I think she is the sun god– or, perhaps – a daughter of the sun god? But think of facts – we see her where? By the great pit of flame; at night she rises from the fire and smoke to seize the silver child – who she states is her “sister” – this goal was achieved in the night – a night when there is no moon, eh? And also, she did her killing by calling down fire? And she said further she is the child of Nephilim – but we know that is merely child of gods and sons of man, eh? The daughter of the god of sun and flame is said to be a “leader” – even as she leads. And did you mark her... her visage? Hair like gold – but brighter, more fair – and her eyes – the color of blue topaz – the rarest of blue stones – found near volcano’s – even as she was so found?”

She watches you intently as she speaks – clearly trying to read your response to the basic facts of the case.

”The faithless say these things are “coincidence” – but folk with a true heart know the value of these things – they know that their can be no “luck” or “coincidence” – but Fate, and Destiny… It cannot be other then that – my heart shall not think otherwise, even if you do not believe it so…”

”But enough of these dark thoughts – tell me; where do you hail – you are no child of men, eh? Your eyes alone speak otherwise – are you from one of the Outer Planes – or perhaps the Umbral Plane?"

"Meanwhile - it is a fine day for such conversation – and I do not know you or your companions well – but we may walk under the Celestial Chariot which now flies the freer – even as the “leader” of this party walks the earth more contended – eh?” she adds the last with a sudden laugh, clapping you heartily on your shoulder, eager to see you smile rather then frown.

You sense her entire mechanism of understanding is clearly a different one then yours – but the clues are now obvious – you now believe her foundation of facts likely came from an entirely different paradigm then yours; you believe it to be from her home – and it is likely not Osiraini – rather; likely – another plane altogether.

Ariarh is somewhat horrified that the girl did not realise what she had done. Yet she keeps her expression and voice calm and tries to explain without offending the girl.

"Anaitis, I believe you had the best of intentions when undertaking the clearing of Brett Rowan's ka and restoring a sense of peace to him. However, I must advise that by doing so, you took away his will on the matter -- you acted on his behalf and prevented him from acting as he would see fit. This can be seen in a negative light as undertaking this "encouragement" you supplanted your will upon his. Do you...

Anaitis looks at you with a somewhat puzzled expression.

”Lady – though you are assuredly a god – not even all gods know all things – else why would there be so many? Even so – you may not know full what the ka is… To us – to the folk of the our world – the ka is… like an energy that all life has – and makes, simply by being – each body is a vessel for it – some folk call it “soul” – but, it is different… wider, if that is right word? It expands beyond us – around us – and through us… it is in all things; a wise person may reach to touch it – not to control it, or to use it – but to let its presence fill you even more so. I cannot make my ka – nor can I control it – but I cannot control that of another – but, if I let myself – the ka will fill me greater – and overflow from me – like the rivers in the flooding – that flood some say is dangerous – some say it is important – some say it is necessary – all are true; but beyond that the flood simply is. It is merely power – not good, or evil – but in the hands of a good person, the flood can bring much to the land for crops – in an evil person it can be used to drown life.”

”I have my own ka – as do you – and my sahib. But now I reach out, I touch it – I direct it – like a farmer directs floodwater, yes? Then – I push the floods to the crops, not to drown – but to… to make grow better? So too with the hairfoot. I take my ka – I reach to his – I urge him, I encourage him, I make… I say things that maybe are good – but with my ka behind those words – those words have greater power – they be more… strong? My sahib maybe not listen to the facts only – but he does listen to my ka – not words, just the power. That is good – for he does not fight the dark one – they do not draw blood, and now they jest of breakfast – and catch fish! What could be better?” she asks happily.

”Ah – but, I think maybe you not sure – I not make my sahib obey – I show him the way – he sees my words are good. But I could say sahib – take this weapon and end your life – for it is best! – in that he would not listen. But if I said “this is not the fight you seek” – then the power of my ka could inspire him to hear me… That is good, yes?”

She smiles brightly you.

”You know this is true – you are goddess of sun, maybe? You make fire from heaven – I saw you strike the evil one on the boat… and your sister – she is goddess of moon – and the serpent – like my folk! This is good thing – after breakfast – we may talk. For I am oathbound to serve the hairfoot – and as he walks with you – we shall walk together. I am new to your world – there is much to learn – and I am happy to learn, for many of our kind was lied to, as you shall see. When we come to your strong place – I shall give bronze… no – gold indeed! – and with it a shrine for you, and one for your sister. That is good thing, yes?”

Ry – your natural “sense motive” roll from earlier picks up she is not only sincere – but sincerely naïve. You can already think of at least twenty people – not the least a certain Miss Goodwyfe – who would eagerly see her destroyed for her “blasphemy” – even so – you detect neither guile, or manipulation. She sincerely and utterly believes in not only the rightness of what she is doing – but also – that what she is doing is both good, and honorable besides. Finally – your admonishment – rather then dissuade her… You have a nagging suspicion that she is almost “humoring” your lack of understanding of the truth of gods and so on. But not out of pettiness – rather, though your statements are correct – in her education – they are so far-fetched, she simply cannot understand them. Indeed – this will be a complicated relationship – for though she is not your companion, not wholly – she seems to have no problem offering either you, or Anuk-su, outright praise and worship - as if you are divine beings…

You are free to take this opportunity to wonder what the completely mundane – and obviously normal “Woodsmen” you encountered not so long ago would think if he saw someone build a shrine to you… No doubt, he’d be a bit… perplexed… but, purely for abstract reasons, of course…

Brett seems to have accepted Anaitis's argument without question - almost as if she managed to convince him simply because of her well thought out words alone... But, to Ariarh - those words were not so crafty, or so cleverly put together... There may be more afoot - perhaps she shall share?

Anaitis bows low before Ariarh.

”Your pardon, lady – I do not speak well your words. But I try.”

”You ask two questions – but in answering the second, I think the first is clearer.”

”The eye is the window into the ka – as you know doubt know – if it is befuddled, then the ka is readily fooled. An adept person may therefore attempt to… to… ah! A person may cloud the window, and the ka cannot have access to the light so well, yes?”

”The hairfoot is my sahib now – I would not see him rankled – so I encouraged him to believe in peaceful means. Yet instead of his mind directed for anger or argument, I called his attention to other things – he did not focus on argument – but rather, on my suggestion – and it was that suggestion that encouraged him to peace.”

”Now I think you know the first answer, too? Very good – as the Ithilid do so say… ”I can be very persuading…”,” she adds the last with a touch of humor, jesting somewhat with Ariarh, smiling at her – well pleased with her action, and glad that she has assisted the party.

Whatever you may believe about the truth of those words - what is clear is that Anaitis is not trying to hide anything - and is trying to be as forthcoming as possible. You also sense that she isn't ashamed or embarrassed, rather; she is acting like someone who is generally proud of their actions and as if to say "Hey - not bad, eh? No need to thank me - I was just doing my job :) Indeed, she reminds you of a child who's trying to impress the teacher with a very well done project - a little shy, a little nervous - but very excited to demonstrate the results.

Anaitis, her eyes narrowing at the sudden tension from Brett, looks into his eyes, seeing his frustration and annoyance.

"Ah - but sahib - they spoke no insult - they are good people... their words are not insulting - and they only wish to be friends with you..." she says, her voice soft, lilting, and somewhat sweet, even as her hand slides before Brett's eyes gently in a small - almost hypnotic - wave.

Your pardon - sahib - even though a person may know many tongues - it is often best to speak in the one of their birthing. I can bend my tongue 'round this - but in my heart I long for a speaker of my native tongue, if only to remind me of home by speaking the words of my youth. I am sure they meant no insult," Anaitis interrupts, bowing politely to Brett and Ariarh, even as she dons her gear - and her "cut down" robes are now more styling, fitting her better, having received some modest tailoring in the night.

You observe also that she is currently carrying - in addition to the magic sword and armor that was left of the battlefield - the bronze dagger. It is currently dangling from her belt.

In Osiriani… for now…:

”Spies are prevalent in many places – but, I have determined to realign my honor and shall not go that route as a spy might. It strikes me as… indirect – and possibly wrong. While I observed the serpent goddess yonder several days ago – I and others came to an epiphany; we have been beings without good purpose. We followed the god Amun – who is dead – but there are other gods – and other Amun – and they live yet. It is… We would be best served to follow the best god – and we claim the one called Anuk-su as our god now – though, in truth – those who honor her divinity are branded traitor by Amun – and are now dead for their faith.”

”Even so – I shall not depart from the way of the goddess – she calls to mind the duality of the sisters By that you think she refers to the sisters Isis and Nephthys. After all – the silver one was the protector of the dead; do you see how the snake girl is keen to the wiles of the dead? Her sister – the golden one – she was the goddess of magic and rulers – even so; the golden one with the topaz eyes? She rules – even as the golden goddess – and did you mark how they are different as sun and moon – yet call themselves sisters? Lady – this cannot be coincidence… Mark well too, the beast men – the Anubis - they see now their new master in the golden goddess – as I see mine own in the silver goddess… So it is – I cannot dishonor the goddess with mean or base actions as spying on allies to the goddess – I shall be honorable – for it is my new calling, as she has liberated my ka, so I must now follow her - golden goddess, silver goddess!

Isani – this hodge-podge of odd religious prattle is not so unusual – many more basic or rudimentary southern cultures – as well as rural or barbaric northern cultures – ascribe “levels of divinity”. Indeed – in Osirain culture there are multiple gods that are revered – but not necessarily worshipped as “True Gods” – for example; House Gods – local gods that protect a house, or protect a family – almost like a ghost that watches over you… In this you are very familiar – though you do not see your ghostly ally as a true “god” – rather, you observe her as a powerful being with unusual powers that you petition for aid – and offer thanks when she provides it, and sometimes even when she doesn’t. You have heard of northern clans worshipping “gods of groves” – or “gods of rivers” – or “gods of lakes” – and so on. Each of these divinities are generally localized in terms of power – some priests going to holy groves, or a holy mountain – or other such things. These are far more “basic” religious ideas – but they are not without merit. You have heard of them before – though they are generally out of practice with civilized culture. Bottom line – you sense no official blasphemy in Anaitis – rather; you sense a determination to the best she can with what she’s got.

Response in Osiriani:

Anaitis looks at you with a confused expression.

”I do not understand your customs – nor do I understand well your words, though this language I know better then others – and I would learn the trick of your speech, if I am to live among you.”

”My kinsmen were butchered – their spirit denied eternal rest through black rites of foul sorcery – myself; I was stripped, beaten and tortured – knowing I would endure the same rites – but only after watching the one I fought for become executed in a horrible ritual.”

”Now – my folk are dead – either as traitor – or they are opposed to my beliefs and died by your hand, or your friends. I have no one – and have been near death, and humiliated besides – it seems I have no one to offer me any consideration except the hairfooted one that stands with you. Only he has shown me any consideration – only he has spoken to me – and only he as talked to me at length. To him – I am grateful.”

”For yourself – you have asked me questions – as is your right – for as your folk saved me – my freedom is forfeit to you, until I save your life in return. Even so – I am no diviner to know otherwise – yet it seems to me that you are more concerned with what I can offer you regarding my lore – and little else but that.”

”Meanwhile - it is likely that I am to be with the hairfoot, and his folk – in this case I suspect your kind as well – for the end of my days – or I shall be cast out to be alone, and likely die in the wilderness. But, in either case – I would take every opportunity to learn – at the least – the language – so that when I do offend, perhaps without meaning to – and am therefore cast out – I will at least be able to know better how to talk to those who would kick me aside.”

She cocks her head and looks at you.

”I have known priestesses – but not like you – never have I seen them so reserved in sharing lore – and never have I seen them so eager to turn their back on folk they do not know – speaking in hushed whispers – and not wanting to talk. But – again – I am new to this – I am… I do not know well your customs. As such – I do my best to learn. None of you have shown interest in my kind – except for the hairfoot, and perhaps the female with the golden mane and topaz eyes who looks like a divine being with her hair so golden - and is called the leader of this company, and - moreover - aligned to the young silver goddess - indeed; they called each other sister - which seems right and true; twin sisters - like sun and moon; golden sun, silver moon - and both destined to lead, as is said by your folk...”

”But again – apologies for any offense – it was not my intention, I only wished to learn the language, and only you two have the southern color to the skin, and speak words I know well. But - I shall not trouble you again, if my presence offends so easily.

She salaam’s once to you – and turns and walks over to Brett and Ariarh, paying particular respect on or near Anuk-su’s presence.

I don't think anyone else but you and probably Arasmes can understand the language - but I am not sure...

They are dead, now - my kinfolk - and their ka is in the afterlife to be weighed - but I would think that Bastet will not endure them long - nor shall the Brother of Nephyths and Seth tolerate it in the weighing...

Anaitis looks to Brett, and bows gently – her hands touching her forehead, her lips and her heart.

”The ones that thy seek are assuredly on the mainland – to the west – in the ruined city…”

”In the west, by the marsh – there are ancient ruins – they are stone houses – mostly broken and destroyed – but some houses are filled with prisons – to be like places to experiment on the men like our own…”

”Apologies – my people, as thou see – are like what you call the Serpent – from which all life comes – but it is said in some creator tales the Serpent comes with wings – and this also from the great waters – this is a telling in some lands… We saw many creatures with silver skin – and some with gold – like the comrades you speak on…. ”Then we see new folk – like the silver one’s – and they are led by female that comes to the city from across the water – like a silver serpent – but with wings! Like the telling of the creator gods of old… So there is division in the folk – some say we should hearken to this – others say we should kill all – for it is supreme blasphemy – so; we fight – those who lose are taken and their bodies scattered – their ka kept from the afterlife for all time – I would be as one to be killed – as the young Serpent goddess here – but; we are both to be killed at witching hour – hour of darkness – when sun is blackest in sky – for ritual to Serpent god – both alive – but to be killed – all the faithful are dead but I – and the rest who follow the Serpent stay on this island for ritual – the rest are taken back over water to the cells beneath the ruined city… There you will find them – and more like the beast men who stand far off from the water… for they fear it…”

”If you travel to the ruined city – you will find your friends – assuredly… they live – for they are meant to live for a purpose – though what it is – I cannot say… for I do not know… but they will be likely unguarded tonight – if we strike hard – we can find them – and soon….”

She bows to Brett after speaking.

You recall that "Common" is not her primary language... and she speaks Osiriani - if other languages as well...Though she has made this speech in Common, clearly.

Now that there has been a bit of an explosion, Ka'etil calmly sets Anuk-Su down for ariarh to heal. There is a low and furious growl rising from the air around Ka'etil Ghost Sounds. He asks Aniatis in a dull flat voice "Where are the Silver creatures what traveled with the Dragon girl here? If ya don't know, then kindly ask the Anumi here if they can lead us there, yeah?"

Not looking at her, he also says to isani "Priestess, the status of the Anumi, while a matter to be concerned with, is secondary to where our people are and their status. Kindly get your priorities in order."

Brett is nearly a jack-of-all trades - but he doesn't have "Detect Magic" - that's up to one of you guys! Who knows how many magical things you guys passed up so far... Brett? Not at all - he can't cast it... Just saying... :)

Anaitis says nothing to Kae at this time - rather; she proceeds to the body of the dead creature in the boat, and quickly pats him down - discovering at least a handful of coins - which she pockets quickly - and a sword, and a knife.

Drawing the knife she cuts the bonds of the breastplate - and tosses it into the hull of the boat, then begins to strip the "snake man" of the robes under his armor, until he is naked down to a loincloth.

She presents the cloth - folded and neatly - to Anuk-su, and speaks to her softly - you can barely make out the words - but they sound like Draconic.

She turns to look Kae directly - her eyes are cold, and she says nothing, but stares deeply into his gaze.

"Sahib," she says to Brett "Am I to know this person is under thy protection?" she says, her eyes still on Kae, watching him intently.
