F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

It might be time for Aeronniell to hang up her spurs.

Between having our first child and tighter restrictions on the firewall at my office, my posting is a lot more limited and I'd hate to be the player holding up a game... which I'm certain I would be (I have been recently in the PbP games that haven't been on a hiatus like this one).

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Once the elves are defeated and her companions conscious, Aeronniell lingers near the girallon for several moments.

"That creature... do you think it knew what it was doing? Or was it just some sort of pet?"

Her eyes move to the edge of the jungle.

"There could be more... a lot more. At least it wasn't corrupted like the other animals we've been seeing the past few months."

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Feeling like she can attempt a gamble, Aeronniell darts back out into the street and takes up a position on the far side before firing an arrow of her own at the mighty gorilla-beast.

"Ialda! Fall back if you need your wounds tended!"

Longbow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28 for 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7
Longbow (confirm): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 = 19 for 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 1) + 4 = 13

She watches in mild disbelief as her arrow strikes truer than she expected.

Aeronniell peeks out from the building, shocked to still see Gruug and Ialda standing toe-to-toe with the massive girallon.

"Ialda! Gruug! Fall back bef---"

The elf winces as she watches Gruug crumble to the ground before she can complete her sentence.

"Blessed Dreamer..."

She looks briefly at the doorway and considers the strategic value of it as a chokepoint but recognizes Ialda seems unlikely to fall back. She glances at her own wounds, wondering how many arrows she could take before she herself falls to the ground.

Quickly, she mends her own wounds and looks Louis in the eyes, hoping the sailor has some sage wisdom for how to get their allies out of the death trap they stumbled into.

The rules for the PFRPG introduced "bleed" as a condition, where it didn't exist as a condition keyword in the original 3.5E rules, and thus every time an ability/spell/monster imparted a bleed effect, they'd print the full details.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Not sure if we're handling bleed differently, but bleed effects usually halt when magical healing is used on the target.

Seeing Louis more resembling a pin cushion than a bard, Aeronniell gestures to the door she just opened.

"Louis! Get inside and take cover!"

The elf reaches out to tug the man's shoulder while her hand discharges some holy energy into his battered body.

Aeronniell glances worriedly at Baolo's wounds and provides fairly obvious advice to her fellow archer and allies.

"Take cover from the archers! Don't go near the gorilla if you value your life!"

Narrowing her eyes, she points an outstretched finger at the many-armed gorilla and nearby elves and beseeches Desna for some divine aid.

Aeronniell nervously sizes up the arrows.

"We should've packed better for this trip! Anti-toxins! Why didn't I think about those when we were in the city?"

Sighing, the elf gazes off into the distance and wonders how Lavinia is faring.

With her face a sickening shade of green, Aeronniell stumbles over to a nearby crate and rests for a moment.

Stow it!

Grimacing, she picks up her bow and swings it around onto her back to check on the others, while looking out over the water.

Do they have pounce? Aeronniell should've required more than a 5ft step for the kech (who full round attacked) as she moved 30ft around them while they were flat-footed.

General Note on Aeronniell Movements:

As Aeronniell is a fairly fragile elf and an archer, when she spends a move action, she's always trying to not be a 5ft step away from a monster and always going to try to use a corner to maintain a no-cover shot and break a charge.

Fort DC??: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

If the kech full round attacked, she's going to sadly withdraw (far south of the C and not near any snakes). If it didn't full round attack then she hasn't taken any damage yet and will try to Acrobatics away to get 20ft away to shoot - she would want to be up and left up the "C" on the map. She obviously doesn't want to go near any snakes or provoke from them. She'll shoot at the nearest target to her.

Acrobatics (to avoid AOO): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Aeronniell glances longingly at the roof of the captain's quarters as the pair of simian beasts leap into a flank around her.

I really must station myself atop there to prevent getting slaughtered by keches and sea gargoyles a third time...

* Same bonus for arcana, local, nature, planes and religion. She's interested in special attacks followed by special defenses.

Are they flat-footed? If so, Aeronniell would like to get into a better position moving diagonally around the one to her left towards the 'B' on the map. If not, then she'll at least 5ft to be south of the one to her left.

Nodding towards Esteban, the elf calls out to her allies.

"For the first time, I find myself in total agreement with the captain!"

Cast Bless.

In case they are not flat-footed, she will cast defensively.

Aeronniell frowns a great deal of the voyage as she continues to second guess their decision to leave Lavinia for several weeks and join an Aspis expedition.

Perhaps it's the Aspis itself that is cursed...

Roguish voice: Now, now! Think about all the extra rum we'll be able to buy upon our return with our newly earned gold!

Calm voice: Or the extra magicks you can purchase to keep Lavinia safe.

The voices doing little to assay her concerns, Aeronniell maintains a constant vigil on deck for further dangers, preferring to sleep during the day and take watch at night.

At Louis's mention of cursed idols, she moves up next to the sailor and whispers her thoughts on the matter.

"I wouldn't doubt the Aspis would lack the discretion to pillage a sacred site."

Time permitting, she'll lend her hand to the search for magical auras stowed aboard the vessel that could be dangerous to all the ship's passengers.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell grabs her bow and makes like the rest of her companions, descending deeper into the bowels of the ship.

Yep, we've found this party's achilles heel.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell's eyes widen at the sight of the mob of insects coming their direction.

"Agreed! And we need to keep a better watch to see these things coming before they are right upon our boat!"

Yet, she's after the swarm in initiative.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

@Baolo: That should be 32hp between Aeronniell and Gruug.

"Barely."

Aeronniell smiles weakly at Ialda.

"We should ensure that you or Gruug are on the deck at all times, it's hard for Baolo and I to use our bows when we're being beset upon like that."

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Round 4

"Left Ear! Keep it away from Baolo!"

Aeronniell nervously closes again on the creature, keeping her distance and trying to get her hands on her fellow archer.

Move adjacent to Baolo, 10ft from the gargoyle. If it has reach, she'll cast defensively, but I don't think they do?

Aeronniell cringes at the sight of Baolo's crumpled form and takes a few steps toward it, only to realize she'd be stepping back into certain death herself the hands of the creature.

Instead, she unstraps her bow, notches and arrow, and sees if she can repay the favor - praying that Baolo can last a few more seconds until she can get to him.

I totally missed that attack in Round 1! (part of the whole missing the gargoyles had acted thing). Aeronniell will still withdraw in Round 2, not wanting to spend a single round next to a full attacking gargoyle and hoping her allies join the fight soon.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Ah, Aeronnniell had moved to the "cabin door" to try to get line of sight on the folks below before casting Bless. Not sure if that was missed last post.

Surprised by the gargoyle looming next to her, Aeronniell tactically withdraws, hoping her allies get on deck sooner rather than later.

If she's near the cabin door/stairs, she'd withdraw deeper into the ship. Otherwise, somewhere 30 feet away from the gargoyle is fine.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Ah, I overlooked that the gargoyles had acted.

Aeronniell, seeing the gargoyles nearly boarding their ship, rushes to the cabin door and shouts down to Ialda and the others.

"We're being attacked! Sea gargoyles or something! All hands on deck!"

Turning, she narrows her eyes at the closest gargoyle while grabbing the half-moon strung around her neck.

"Desna protect us against this threat!"

Cast Bless. Which, at this level still, will be her default round 1 action after getting out of melee range if she's ever holding up combat.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell's eyes widen as she tries to study and identify the attacking creatures under the light of the stars.

Blarg.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell is thankful for the cleansing rain. It somehow makes the River Queen, and their whole "mission" feel less dirty.

She shrugs off the water despite it's chill temperature and keeps her eyes focused on the moon when it's visible between the dark grey clouds.

Outside.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell nods uncomfortably at the captain, having donned heavier clothing and a thicker cloak than usual despite the hot weather.

She sighs as she feels the familiar comfort of a ship's deck and tries to find somewhere to make herself comfortable.

If healing is still needed, Aeronniell will use some spells since she doesn't plan on many more fights today. We should absolutely buy the wand.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Ialda may want to switch to a d20 for attack rolls. :)

Round 2

Aeronniell continues to move into position (F,10) to get a clearer shot and fires her first arrow.

"Remember these monsters like to snap out when they die!"

Add +4 soft cover from allies to the monster's AC.

Longbow +1: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 1 = 28 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Round 1

Aeronniell winces as she sees the writhing tentacles on the monster's back, but quickly grabs her moon symbol and instills courage to her allies.

"Take heart! There's just a single one!"

Standard to cast Bless, move action to draw bow.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Yep, I'm hoping that's the angle that Lavinia or other PCs use to appeal to her. That something bad will happen to these natives if we don't take the job, so this is the opportunity to do it in a "good way" versus allowing it to happen in a "bad way".

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

I imagine if we weren't supposed to "be in" for the continuation of the story, then we'd have dug up something dirty by now.

Aeronniell's certainly not a fan for working for the evil Aspis or the lecherous Esteban. She's not interested in the gold personally, and would prefer if Lavinia's business contacts were a good organization instead of one exploiting/displacing Mwangi natives. As a player I'd go along with the group to make adventuring easy. We can likely summarize as it takes a sizable amount of convincing, but Aeronniell finally, reluctantly cedes to the will of the group.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell contents herself with observing Malik Graves while Louis does the talking, the better to concentrate on the man rather than be distracted watching her own words.

At the mention of paranoia, she frowns slightly, remembering how they - including Lavinia - were all nearly murdered by an overzealous first mate, just to have a lecherous Aspis operative appear a week later.

Is everyone is this establishment Aspis? If there's some non-Aspis folk, she'd ask around about Esteban's reputation.

Diplomacy (Gather Information): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

But she appears to be too distracted by the conversation Left-Eat is having...

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell's face twists up at the mention of her talking to the captain, but it quickly turns to a smile.

"Yes, Left-Ear should totally talk to the captain!"

Clearing her throat she adds.

"I'll talk to the merchants."

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Aeronniell sighs with relief as the captain departs and immediately turns to smile at Baolo.

"Thank the stars, I knew you'd have the right idea, Baolo!"

Moving quickly across the room to the window, the elf narrows her eyes at the withdrawing form of the captain and his guard.

"I wonder just how hostile these jungle nomads are? If there even are any nomads, or they'd simply take us up river long enough to attempt some attack on Lavinia?"

As the captain turns and gives the manor one less look, Aeronniell's heart jumps and she quickly dodges behind the curtain.

"What's this about your journals, Lavinia? Is there some clue there about Vanthus?"

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Upon retreating into a more private area with Lavina, Aeronniell shares what she knows of the ruthless reputation of the Aspis Consortium along with her other concerns.

"Ialda - did you see the way he was looking at us? Like we were some sort of meat and he was a hungry predator?"

Shaking her head, the elf continues.

"Something doesn't strike me right, here. Perhaps he is one of Vanthus's friends and he's simply trying to lure us away from the city for a month to make some sort of move against Lavinia? The Aspis strike me as a group that would have similar interests to your brother."

Biting her lip, Aeronniell begins pacing along the carpet.

"Lady Lavinia. You have been most generous to us this month. Twelve-hundred gold this week in payment for our services this month. And this Esteban offers us half as much to leave your employ for his for a month? The only way I could see taking this offer is to spring whatever trap this may be...."

Finally, she stops, and nervously nibbles at one of her nails.

"What do you think, Baolo? You've been quiet since the captain made his offer?"

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

The Aspis man's negotiations unfolded at such a rapid pace, Aeronniell's head dizzied. Such a rapid pace of events, only days after her life was nearly lost, and Lavinia's as well.

Placing a hand on Ialda's shoulder, Aeronniell smiled politely at the Captain and leaned down to whisper to Ialda.

Whispers to Ialda:

"Perhaps we shouldn't shake hands until we've spoken to Lavinia first? Given she was nearly murdered a fortnight ago, I'm not sure leaving her with no guards for a month is proper? Perhaps if the Jade Ravens still lived, but they perished as well..."

"... and, we know so little about this man, or his group?"

What does Aeronniell know about the Aspis Consortium?

Aeronniell studies the pair of men carefully, recent events leading her to exercise more caution that she may have just weeks prior. Absentmindedly, her hand reaches towards the quiver at her hip and feels the reassuring softness of her arrows.

She maintains a casual smile as her eyes drink in their features.

Jovial voice: The mustached one. He's familiar...

Aeronniell smiles awkwardly as Left Ear's introduction is made, her face paler than usual as the pit of her stomach continues to twist and turn with anxiety at her near-death experience.

Jovial voice: It was not yer time yet, lass...

Calm voice: Yes, you must do what we could not. Protect Lavinia.

Roguish voice: I wouldn't have minded the visit, there's *no* women here. Whatever happened to Xarethi? She was a dandy lass.

Shaking her head, Aeronniell continues to focus on Lavinia's face, wondering what will be next among the plans of their benefactor.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Yep, as of the latest post in the loot thread, Aeronniell is ready to roll out.

Perhaps we can beseech Lavinia to supply the next wand once she proposes how she will be sticking us in harm's way on her behalf once again?

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Apparently I violated my "rule prime" when I rolled Aeronniell and made a character with under a 14 Con.

I debated endlessly about playing with fire on her and continuing to play a 10 Con or addressing her biggest weakness with a belt of con since she has over 4000gp to spend now.

I went ahead and grabbed the belt.

I also picked up the following scrolls for using on the party in the respective emergency: remove fear, remove sickness, calm emotions, remove paralysis, and lesser restoration.

I'll grab the hand-me now down for now, I'm still not certain if Aeronniell will boost her strength at any future point - it's more likely that she will go more caster-focused and use the bow as a back-up with Baolo about.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Almost all the loot's better on a front-liner if it's kept. The only item of possible use is the ring, but I'd give that to Ialda in a heart-beat as it should be rarer for Aero to be in melee, Devoraz being an exceptional case.

I'm happy hawking most of what folks don't use and splitting the gold for things more specific to each of us.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

The wand had 10 charges remaining prior to that battle. Aeronniell will take 1 (for 9hp) and follow with a cure moderate wounds (maximized out of combat being 16+4=20hp if that's allowed?) Let me know if there's other charges being used?

As she comes too, the voices in her head grow softer as she looks up at Baolo's grinning face.

"Blessed Dreamer! I thought... it was over."

Slowly making her way to her feet, Aeronniell calls upon Desna's favor to knit her injuries and gives a spiteful look at Devoraz's fallen body.

** Upstairs **

Aeronniell frowns at the threats of torture.

"You'd think Vanthus' enemy would be our friend -- isn't that how it's supposed to work? Perhaps we should make an effort to make it common knowledge that you and Vanthus are not on the best of terms... to minimize future threats to your life? I'm sure he's making plenty of enemies..."

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Panic fills Aeronniell's face as her spell finds no purchase in Devoraz's mind.

"Oh, shi---"

Jovial voice: Will you be joining us for dinner in the afterlife?

Roguish voice: Oh, I think I found a bottle of wine somewhere around here...

The elf crumples into a bloody pile at the first mate's feet.

Round 3

Stumbling backwards, Aeronniell shuffles her bow to one hand and holds up her free hand.

"Devoraz! No... you have made a terrible mistake!"

Backing up (5ft step to L16), the elf tries to find a way out of certain death.

"Think on what you're doing.. flee!"

Round 2

Frowning at the lack of luck with her earlier spell, Aeronniell bites her lower lip and decides to give her spell another try.

"Blessed Dreamer - let's try that again!"

Cast Glitterdust at the middle of the large lizardman, getting the three of them outside the door. DC15 Will or blinded for 4 rounds.

Hoping she's helped Ialda enough, she withdraws deeper into the room to stand near Baolo (to his left at K,15) where she recognizes the name of the captain's first mate.

"Drevoraz! At last! Your captain sent us! Call off these lizardfolk before anyone else is harmed!"

Round 1, InitX?

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Aeronniell frowns at the sound of unfamiliar words and peeks past Ialda into the courtyard and winces as she sees several more lizardfolk prepared to do battle.

"We could make a stand here... funnel them into this room? Block those stairs?"

5ft step to H15 and cast Glitterdust at the top corner of H7 getting the large lizardfolk and the two smaller ones in the effect. DC15 Will or blinded for 4 rounds.

I'll be out of town Thurs through the extended weekend, so feel free to keep things moving if Aeronniell is quiet.

Aeronniell holds her breath and struggles to hear any sounds that might indicate more adversaries await in either the courtyard or dining hall.

(Presumably this is the same dining hall we've shared meals with Lavinia. Can we see out into the courtyard?)

One more charge for Gruug (from the OOC thread) takes the wand down to 10/50 charges.

Aeronniell stays mostly near the back of the party, her eyes trained ahead for signs of more lizards. She grips her bow tightly and tries to hope for the best for Lavinia.
