Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Careful not to broadcast, Adge dredged the name out of his memory.
Sarge, didn't them lads back at the station call 'im, now what was it.. Big...Bigballs...the slacker, no tha's not it. Bigbull the enslaver, tha's the one. With the fiery eye, thick armour and all the boyz with big guns too!"

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

"Right oh sarge!" seemingly unflustered, Adge depresses the pressel and begins to broadcast.
"General sir, we have entered the complex that overlooks the central position, we are just now readying for the final push against the ork warboss holding this area. If we haven't caĺled back within the alotted time we will be dead sir, as only death will stop us fulfilling our duty.
Further traffic sir: Sarge says, say a prayer for our success sir, and we will do what we can this end. Over"

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

"Sarge, they are going encrypted, probably want to stand by for this!"

Tech-use 54+20+(10 MIU): 1d100 ⇒ 31 4/5dos

Delaying his connection until sergeant MacCammon is ready.
"Yes General Sir, getting a full sitrep from my sergeant now sir."
Wary of the fact he is talking to a General, Adge covers the microphone part of the vox apparatus, despite knowing that without the pressel switch being depressed, nothing is being transmitted.
"Sarge, how do you want to play this? 10 minutes ain't long to defeat the orks, find a viewpoint an' identify the greenskin positions. You want me to fake transmission problems?"

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Adge was just contemplating the potential benefits of using a metal lunchbox for camoflaging a trap and adding additional shrapnel, when the vox carrier comes up. "Let's take a look."

Setting down the vox in a protected corner, (old habits in case the situation changes) Adge checks the broadcasting frequency dials. Keying the pressel switch he broadcasts.

"gamma-gamma-epsilon-delta, this is vox-trooper Cutler, we're you trying to reach us over?"

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Adge almost slaps his head at his own stupidity in not signalling the ogryn his plans of letting the door close and just walking past. Yet he wonders if the abhuman would have listened, for there was a new intensity to him since Notch's death. The following explosion of noise as Simmins' stubber kicked into action, surprised Adge, but was brutally effective, he just hoped the filthy greenskins would take it for an over enthusiastic comrade.

"Let me take point, an' I'll see what I can do. Tis rather nice 'aving a big fella to back me up!"
Then snapping to at the sergeant's command, Adge moves into the gore soaked room, using his boot to push gobbets of Gretchin out of his way, but his eyes mostly just scan over the blood as he holds onto his lunch.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Seeing the gretchin stop and sniff the air, Adge decides that the sound of a 'boy' approaching is preferable and waves Thud forward. Help on it's way, Adge starts to aim at the perceptive grot, ready to shoot if he thinks it has rumbled him (or Thud).

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Sorry crazy holiday packing, and flying tomorrow. Should be able to post Monday.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

The gretchin looking directly at him is almost enough for Adge to start blazing away, but as his finger begins to squeeze the trigger he notices the focus of the eyes and eases off. Freezing stock still, he waits for them to move off and waits for their eye line to move so he can signal Thudd to halt.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

But, but they were just so tempting and decadent!!!

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Crouching, Adge signals back to the others (thumb down, then 3 fingers, then pointing to room, then thumb and forefinger suggesting small). Using the rising sounds of the orks, Adge tries to cross the doorway, lasgun pointing at the gretchin. Placing his feet carefully and steadily, Adge creeps forward.

I was out of FP at the last fight, and i think this is our first chance to gain any back, so i will take it please if no-one else needs it.

Adge looks to the sarge and field signals for himself to go forward and investigate.
Wrapping his cloak around him, Adge ghosts forward from cover to cover, listening at closed doors and poking his head into open ones. Trying to find out what we face. Once a good distance has opened up, Adge signals the others and gets them too move up.

After having moved to help, Adge is only too happy to move out of the way and let the bigger and stronger squad members do their thing. Instead Adge watches the mechanism as they work, checking to see that there aren't any brakes resisting them or damaged parts hindering the pump. Where safe to do so, he redistributes grease and removes debris, whilst alternating between the Canticle of Appeasement and the Catechism of the machine.

Wow, that goes back a way! I never paid much attention to the Ultramarines, I was always more interested in the Space Wolf/Dark Angel rivalry. My first models were DA and yeah thin paint wasn't something I knew about either! (No YouTube videos to help back then). Slowly painting up a few Space Wolves and my old Imperial Guard. Might use them one day!

Slightly gutted! There used to be a function on this forum, that if you wrote Smurf or ultrasmurf, it changed your image to a random Smurf image!

Edit:- Ha it still works (it didn't in preview!) Must just be the word Smurf!

But Aoife, before we go to far down this road, bear in mind we have no knowledge of what we will have to sacrifice to save them. If it costs my life, I will go gladly to save my wife, and i fully expect a soul for a soul. I do not doubt your courage, but what I can say as a parent, albeit a lousy one, is no parent would want their child to die to save them. I'll back you all the way to that stage if that is what you want, but I won't help you do that. Deal?"

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

@Choon Kill team seems a good gateway drug for 40k. Similar rules, but you only need about 5-20 models (depending on faction). Not that I get much opportunity for table top games, but I have switched to Bolt Action (WW2) as I prefer the mechanics. I still love the lore (hence games like this), but I just got fed up of GW's constant money grab approach. That being said I sti have my old models and am slowly painting them up, so maybe one day I will return.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Not that I like the new primaris stuff, (it just feels too much like a plain old money grab) but I am curious how they would stay up in Deathwatch. And yeah, I agree Deathwatch early levels feels like fresh out of being a blood claw, sorry scout. (Unabashed fan of the space wolf approach to the codex)

Adge hands over the vox with reluctance, clearly he would rather bear the burden than give it over to this manual labourer who looks like he struggles with operating technology as complicated to use as a lasgun. "You best be not changing them frequencies. I know just where I left 'em so don't touch."

Pulling up the hood on his chamoleoline cloak, and checking his lasgun once more, Adge moves out at the front, his eyes peeled for traps or more ambushes. Once they all reach the lift Adge scrambles all over it as ordered.
"Sarge, this is good an' fried, every single damn circuit. It would be easier to build one from scratch, than repair this, I would need to build the electronics from scratch anyway. Anyone would think they had used high voltage spanners, the stupid fethers."

After waiting for a reply from the sarge, Adge moves from body to body (ork included) looking to salvage grenades, explosives and ammo.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Thanks anyway but, it is done now, I'll get it back at some point....hopefully, maybe....(don't tempt the GM!!!)

Awesome, well happy birthday in advance Leni, have a great gaming session!

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

@TGOW ahh, gotcha, missed that bit, yeah I guess shooting at the further one then. Really wouldn't have bothered rerolling for that, but never mind. Should just be a standard hit then with 9 damage and 2 pen.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Cheers for the agreement Choon. To be honest I was going to do it anyway as it seemed unfair for me to reroll and potentially get away with not spending a fate point. Probably shouldn't have worded it as a question when it was more of a courtesy/explanation thing. Now to sleep for me too!

Time to spend that last fate point for a reroll!

Reroll: 1d100 ⇒ 40
Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Pen 2

Taking careful aim Adge squeezes the trigger moments after the large flash of flame of Notch's tank exploding. Having aimed cautiously, the explosion causes him to snatch at the trigger, pulling the shot and hitting the ork hard in the body, instead of missing wildly.

So because the ork is no longer in combat the reroll of 40 against 35+5(custom)+20(full aim)+?(brace)+10(hulking?)=70
Means damage gets boosted by my perception bonus (right?) to 9+3=12 with Pen 2

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

@TGOW Sounds good to me, I was thinking along the same sort of lines, but figured play it safe with middle of the road actions, and an extra half action aim never hurt anyone! (well maybe Notch if I had fired then and rolled better!).

Posting tired previously, I put in a new action (actually shooting) after one of your part-time summaries rather than in the new turn. Going to quote the rolls and change the description if that is ok.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Yeah I rolled well for fate and poorly for wounds, it really is 10, so he is now tip-top

As he continues to aim at the ork fighting Notch, Adge flicks the switch, pushing the lasgun into overcharge mode.

I did wonder if Lucky could do anything while this was going on, and so plumped for actions which could easily be described away if he was busy being patched.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Clamping his mouth shut as Leni begins talking, partly through discipline and partly due to the lancing pain as he moves. Adge grits his teeth and with little more than a few choice curse words, gets through her necessarily quick ministrations. Panting a little as the pain subsides he grunts with a slight grin "Alright Doc, no Ork weapons choppin' in my flesh, got it. ". With which he rolls over to get a line of sight around the corner of the bookcase. Ignoring the ork being crushed by the nearby ogryn, he uses the floor to steady his elbow against and takes aim against the ork in combat with Notch. Slowly he begins to steady his breathing as he settles into the familiar custom grip.

Adge turns, to the PDF trooper with him. "Well I don't suppose you be knowing any first aid, would ya?"

Out of interest does the train at the station count as last session? Just wondering if this brings me to 2/3 or 1/3 fate

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Yeah I did try using the search function on the OneNote link as I was short on time, but that didn't bring it up, either that or it was the inability brought on by the exhaustion of a very long night shift. (had an overtime call, finally got home at 5 in the afternoon!) Same applies to the onlywar rulebook and missing the characteristic damage bit.
As to the improvements, good work!

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Adge finds himself torn between his fear of the giant, clearly crazy ork, which he could barely scratch on a good day and running away leaving others to die in his place. Adge rides the wave of bravery that comes from the Ogryn priest's (?) call to arms. Snatching his combat knife from his belt and taking up the cry he lunges.

Really sorry for not even getting a message up to say why the pause, but am back now. Basically have had a crazy week or so, coming back from holiday and then trying to get our house sorted out to stick on the market from a point of not even considering it! So a lot of DIY, stressing and stuffing things into cupboards/loft/shed and now not daring to open those doors in case everything explodes out! As a result have been completely exhausted and unable to think straight. However, it is on the market now, so I am back!!

Adge rummages through his pack as he talks, coming up triumphantly with his last demolition charge

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Comfortable in the presence of authority, from his time as an HQ signaller, Adge seems comfortable enough chatting with the sarge without seeming too slimy.
"Aye they do tha', I've been 'anging round those flyer types 'an the motor pool, i like me an engine, see. Anyway I've 'ad an odd brew or two there with them, almost oily it were, 'ad to choke it down, cos they were looking at me funny. I still ain't convinced they weren't 'having a joke on me. Stuff they might not tell a stripes or pips, you never know."
The recaff brewed and shared, and with his kit packed up again, Adge heads out to chat with the local pdf troopers, trying to match his old maps to the current situation on the ground and to local enemy positions.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Sitting down next to the sarge, Adge pulls out his own cleaning kit and starts to for up a small stove for a brew, as he works he pipes in. " Hey Sarge, what you tol' them big shots, be that true or did you exaggerate? If'un tha' be true, then you lot 'ave 'ad a tough time of it. I 'ain't saying that to brown nose, but if you lot attract trouble, well this next job was the sor' of thing Ash and I were 'ere for, Get me in a good spot an' i will call down as much as top brass will let me, and 'hope I don't 'ave to deactivate the unexploded stuff!". The water now heating, he starts to give his customised rifle a clean.

Male Human Operator 2250/2300

Listening to the sergeant's message and the reply, via the primary vox headset, (whilst Sgt MacCammon uses the external handset and earpiece), Adge lets out a low whistle. Once the sarge is finished Adge pipes up "Ain't you boys and girls bin busy." and then as Ashora comments, " Don't we just, least I get to call down the fire on a big load of green'uns, this job may yet 'ave an upside."

Invisaging the vox usage as something similar to most ww2 sets. The operator has an always connected headset and microphone, there is an attached phone style handset for use by others.

Disconnecting his MIU, Adge is already moving away from the driver's compartment when Sgt MacCammon calls for him and the other troopers. His curiosity warring with the lack of confidence in the train staying put, Adge gives the train another rather unhappy and yet curious look before reporting in. "Sarge, I ain't too sure about tha' train stayin' put, the doc saved my bacon from a wrong step there, it ain't tech I know."

After looking happier at the prospect of someone he knows coming along, and at the sgt's thoughts on possibly staying there a while Adge pipes up. " Well, them up top may well want us to stick around a bit, Ash an' I was ordered to leave our disruption work an' find out more about this local lot, we 'ad just got down 'ere when you lot showed up.". Absent mindedly checking all his pouches are shut, Adge also checks the power reading on his lasgun and adjusts the fall of his Chamoleoline cloak, when everyone is ready and the sentry lines crossed, he automatically falls into a well practiced routine with Ashora, working as a pair and taking the scouting role.
