Mythender in Golarion

Kyra, hierophant and future goddess of retribution

One of the great things about working at Paizo is the after-work gaming culture. Sure, there are home games, but there are also one-shot rounds of RPGs that I might not have tried otherwise. What's more, they're run by GMs who are passionate about sharing their latest non-Pathfinder discoveries. A little more than a month ago, Paizo editor Ryan Macklin decided to run a game of Mythender, a roleplaying game about killing gods. That's right, the characters are Mythenders, powerful heroes that straddle the line between mortality and the divine in their quest to rid the world of all Myths. The game's website describes it in better and greater detail, but suffice it to say it's an intense, action-packed experience that involves handfuls of dice, encourages over-the-top descriptions, and is well suited to heavy metal background music.

It's also a free game, and I encourage you to give it a try.

So what does this have to do with Paizo? Well, Ryan's the author, and the game just celebrated its first birthday. He approached me about working on a Golarion version of the game, and we just released a 14-page web-supplement under the community use policy adapting some classic canon to Mythender rules. Now you can take the fight to Asmodeus, Irori, Nethys, Rovagug, Sarenrae, and Aroden along with all of their servitors. We present each Myth with a heretical, sinister twist to make it all the more satisfying to End, which is not to be confused with official Golarion canon.

Check it out. Play it for free. End some gods.

Happy gaming,

But yes, had the pleasure of Ending that jerk Odin at PaizoCon 2013. Good times. :)

P.S. Aroden is totes OP.

It was a super-blast running Mythender for y'all at PaizoCon last year!

I've run it for 10 folks at the Paizo office so far, and it's always pretty crazy. It was a real treat to get to play with John, who mixes the helpfulness of a bard with the coy deceitfulness of a rogue.

Wow. What a concept. I'm glad that occasionally we get something completely out-there - and still be vaguely Pathfinder. (Or at least Golarion.)

Love Mythender! I was waiting all my life to kill Norse and other gods!

Random side note, I really want a repeat mini based on that Kyra art, I can't recall which of the books it is from but of all the iconics mythic evolution I could almost read her story arc, from shy yet passionate cleric to Mythic Hyrophant with confidence and righteousness.

I have deep love for the mythic iconics, especially Super-Buff Ezren.

All of the Core Rulebook iconics got mythic updates in Mythic Adventures. The iconics from the APG and Ultimate books were updated to mythic in Mythic Origins.

My favorite of which is Reiko. Nothing says you're a mythic ninja than wearing all white and not giving a crap.

So, do the abilities in Mythic Adventures play a part in this version of Mythender? Or once you go from Level 20/MT 10, do you lose all that and become Mythenders? Just curious how much of a one-for-one conversion this is, as this would be a great ending point to a Mythic Campaign.

It is a nice piece of art, and a cool looking ninja, but it doesn't really say mythic to me, and maybe I am not as familiar with the character but it I put a picture of reiko beside mythic reiko I can't really ya they are the same character portrayed differently.

The rest to varying degrees all look more mythic then there normal iconic selves, but while they look frankly cleaner (being mythic affords more baths?) and they certainly look more badass, Kyra to me looks like becoming mythic has made her undergo so some personal character development.

But art is art, so ymmv.

P.s. Make me a mini of Mythic Kyra or the stuffed goblin gets fed to the stuffed gelatinous cube.

The Mythender system is actually quite different from that of Pathfinder RPG; Mythender uses dice pools, has different attributes, and rewards narrative embellishment in different ways.

That said, Mythender would be a great capstone to a full-blown Mythic Adventures campaign. I think you'll find that it's quite easy to build myth-ending versions of a favorite Pathfinder character in the game. Give it a try, and let us know how it goes!

So i have just found your product and as the forever GM for my group I have been cackling madly ever since i read the mythender pdf. this is a grade A product thanks for making this and the golarion specific stuff!

I might adapt this type of theme using the pathfinder system. Give people an excuse to fight Cthulu & company.
