Elmore looks like he knows how to throw a punch. Hopefully you got a permanent scar so you can show it to people from now on.

Paizo needs Elmore Art..
Mucy as I appreciate his skill, his artwork is too tied to DragonLance in my mind for me to want to see more of it.

I loved Dragonlance, and I agree that he MADE that world alive for me. That is not to say that I wouldn't want to see his take on a few iconic characters from Golarion though!

I was at Coastcon, in Biloxi, back in the '90s and Elmore had a table in the dealer's room. He used to be a regular at the con and I always made a point to spend some time talking with him. At this con I was sitting at his table with him and his wife. She decided to go to the mall for a little while.
Larry had art portfolios of his work he was autographing to sell, and also the D&D cards with his work on them. His wife reminded him the items were to sell for more than retail because they were autographed. I think they had a sign on the table with the prices.
During the time she was gone he sold a few of the art packs, but at the regular retail price. He didn't charge anything for the cards when he autographed them. One kid even brought a Jeff Easley card for an autograph and Elmore pointed out that it wasn't his art work and signed one of his cards and gave it to him.
We spent a couple hours discussing art, D&D, Snarfquest, TSR, etc. He was really cool with everyone, especially the kids. He probably signed over 100 autographs on everything from the art packs to D&D books to cards to Dragon magazines. All free.
When his wife returned, she looked in the money box and said something like, "I knew I should have stayed at the table. This is about what was in there when I left."
Larry said, "It's been a slow day, hon."
Great guy.

In my mind, Elmore's artwork is tied to the BECMI books that I grew up with. (Well, I grew up with the BEC part, anyway.) And that's a GOOD thing, and a reason why I WOULD want to see his art grace Paizo books.

Dragonslayers (And Proud of It) was actually the artwork that 'sold' me on D&D back when I was in high school. I saw that inside the front of the 2E PHB and I knew that I'd found my calling.
I now have framed, signed prints of all the memorable turning point in my roleplaying career. Oddly enough, they're all from Elmore. :)

Agreed. IMO he's the uncontested master at rendering human females. For elven ladies though, there are other artists that I prefer. However that has more to do with the models he selects rather than his style.

But yeah, I was waiting for someone to mention THAT aspect of art. I doubt many people will agree with me, but when it comes to beautiful women, Paizo's art just doesn't do it for me. Partly it's because of my hatred for tattoos, but it's also just the style of art.
But Elmore?
I remember once seeing a list of the 10 hottest women in D&D. I vehemently disagreed with 9 of the 10 choices, and started working on my own list. After coming up with 7, I gave up, realizing that 6 of the 7 were drawn by Larry Elmore.
(And high on that list would be Silvara! And Laurana would be on there too! I've got no gripes with Elmore's elves!)

I am so tired of ever the same boobs on every female on a paizo cover. nothign wrong with boobs or cheesecake but there are more than that single one body type and style

One of The Best (if not The Best) fantasy artists of all time!

I've got no gripes with Elmore's elves!
Maybe it's because I am an elf , but it boils down to 3 main things for me:
- Eye shape / eye slant
- Jawline / jaw width
- Frame / body type
Laurana and Silvara are both definitely beautiful. ALL of Elmore's women that he wants to be beautiful ARE beautiful. I'd never contest such a thing.
However, most of his models seem to have more of a mesomorph frame rather than an ectomorph frame. In his artwork, many also have prominent jawlines and very human-looking eyes. This tends to make them look like humans with pointy ears to me. Hot humans with pointy ears mind you, but still. Of course, a great deal of his work that comes to mind was from DragonLance in which the elves are short so that's also another divergence from the more Tolkienesque aesthetic that I prefer.
Comparison: Elf vs. Human with pointy-ears
Both look awesome, it's just that one looks more like an elf to me than the other. That's all I'm saying. :)
As for Paizo's art: I love Wayne Reynold's artwork. For me it defines Pathfinder as much as Elmore defines DragonLance. I do prefer the eyes on the pre-Pathfinder RPG elves though. The "huge-iris" look just makes them look too much like those freaky "Grey" aliens (Merisiel's iconic portrait being the worst offender I've seen). Other than that though, I find the Pathfinder artwork evokes the sort of cinematic, "movie poster" energy that I like for my games.
It would be cool to see how different artists all portray the same character though. I'd love to see Elmore paint Seoni, Feiya, Amiri, Alahazra, Seelah, and Kyra!

This is one of my favorite art books. I still remember doing chores to save up for the book. I would like to see more of his art.

Right, that's a large part of it for me. Larry Elmore is synonymous with DragonLance, not D&D, and I was never a huge DragonLance fan.
To me, it's Dave Trampier and Erol Otus and, though I'm ashamed to admit it, good old Dave C. Sutherland III that define D&D (and AD&D); the later art, though perhaps more skillful (or perhaps not when compared to Trampier), never looked 100% right to me.
Even in the 3.0 days, I had my eye on Wayne Reynolds, though I didn't bother to think about it until all the Eberron books, and even then it didn't totally click until Pathfinder.

Yeah, the whole BECMI thing was well after I'd switched to AD&D. I played D&D back in the blue box days, when it had the dragon cover art by Dave Sutherland. I later inherited my brother's Erol Otus box too (that was the one after the DCS cover).
