I am assuming it is more of a political choice then violence with one candidate getting enough Kindred to support them that fighting would be useless. Although I am sure it can come to violence if no one can get enough support. Alexander has just declared himself Prince, and almost certainly knows my Sire wants the position. How dangerous a room did Uwe wander into?
In other words, did Alexander just declare war on everyone who opposes him or is his pronouncement less severe then that?

It depends, its a political choice when the balance of power is even, when the balance of power is completely out of alignment, it can indeed be an extremely violent pursuit.
I'll have you make a roll in game to figure out the danger level here...

Generation wise, what's the relationship between Alexander and say...
Mithras, Narses (and my deduction his perspective Prince Childer) and our most powerful/lowest generation coterie member?
Maybe a crazy question, but for me it kind of fills out the gravity of the situation.
Alexander is a 4th gen, just like Mithras, but I do not believe he is as old as Mithras...don't get me wrong, he's still ancient and way out of our league.
Michele and Lorenzo are both 5th generation, but still effectively neonates maybe ancilla in terms of experiences.
Alexander can probably kill you all right now, without help.
Think True Blood when they confronted Russell Edgington in any Season, they had to outthink him.

I think our goal is to just not upset him too much. If he starts wiping out vampires willy-nilly, it will make it hard for him to hold the throne.

I think that may have happened in table top in 2005 or 2006, but I don't fully recall, I always get a bit fuzzy as to when we started this campaign...

Lorenzo has been becoming more and more apolitical as the game goes on. All he got out of his brief ambitions was abandoned by his Sire and sees the other elder as nothing better save perhaps Bion as he seems only interested in continuing his own pursuits.
All that being said, if a reason is presented to him beyond "Join me or die", he may be amenable to that.

He's under the impression that you don't support him and by extension must support someone else. Alexander couldn't conceive of an opinion where you don't support anyone, he's not that evolved :-)
